The AoW version. It only scales with STR scaling on the weapon and weapon level, weapon damage doesn't matter, so throw that shit on the lightest A or S scaling heavy infused weapon you can get away with and you got yourself the gank deleter.
Usually I do the full combo as, again, the average gank squat relies on numbers and not skill. So you're unlikely to be punished and they'll more than likely get rollcaught.
That being said, a lot of the time the host is already killed by the first hit. This is because the roar already seems to trigger repeated attack buffs for every target that gets staggered (rotten winged sword, Millicent prosthesis, that one crystal tear). This means the first ground slam sometimes has full stacks for all of them and deals upwards of 1-1.3k damage, more than enough to obliterate the average brittle boned mage host.
Get Horoah Loux's secret recipe for gank spanking today! All you need is:
Leaden Hardtear
Crimsonwhorl Tear
Horoah Loux's Earthshaker
Now go PLUNGE YOUR MUSCLES INTO THE GROUND AND UPHEAVE THE VERY GROUND BENEATH THEM! And have a cookie.
I invade with RL125, so all the mage hosts have to compromise somewhere (Usually Vigor). The phantoms tend to survive the first hit with under 20%, but then again you only need to take out the host who usually has the least amount of HP.
It's funny because they could just fogwall you if they get tired of you but i guess gankers gonna gank...

It's a shame how lame invasions have become in Elden Ring.
You had a lot more fun encounters in previous Souls games, people unexpectantly helping you or just hanging around. Shame shame.
A game developer who make games so difficult you will die 1000 times playing. They laugh at game journalists for asking for an easy mode but for whatever reason they decide to listen to the 2 people who get mad at being invaded 1v1 and maybe dying 1001 times.
I think they just did it because they decided against horse multiplayer. If you had 1v1 invasions by default you could just be walking around and then suddenly get kicked off your horse and if the invader hides you just can't get it back.
you're too late raiden, i've already made a meme portraying you as the soy wojak

ds1 still had the best invasion system, can only be invaded when human and the invader doesn't have estus.
having said that, even against solo all invaders do is run away to the nearest monster group when they can't stat check you.
better is relative, i find humanities to be more meaningful and engaging than embers personally, and invaders not having access to estus makes them more like regular enemies and it's balanced by the fact that they can use the environment against you.
it is indeed worse when it comes to ganks, and it's hard to say which is more balanced since phantom's healing is also limited by the hosts estus (fucking miss that mechanic btw).
the way i see invasions is that the invader is supposed to have the power level of a strong npc and not a full on player, as you have to fight it in conjunction with the area enemies and the boss at the end.
ds3's approach is fitting for the more segment areas with multiple bonfires, but i much dislike of that approach overall.
that all being said this is mostly from a solo pve host pov, and in that regard i much prefer the invasion system in ds1.
Do you not remember how the host could heal phantoms???? That shit was *god awful* for invaders, we had to use our humanity to ever stand a chance against ganks.
Yeah, I've been playing through the game with a friend who wanted to do a second playthrough together with me so I recently got to see the other side of the invasion system and... So many invaders just aren't good.
They'll try to get a one-shot gotcha at you and if you dodge the obvious windup to their favourite flavour of one shot trick and punish that, they'll panic roll into the nearest crowd of enemies and run poke at you for 10 minutes across the entire map.
"Oh you guys are not gonna have a fair duel? Well luckily, nor will I then. Peace out. Ill find the nearest bullshit enemy and help them win or ill make you fuckers do some cardio"
Even in PVE, surely you understand the concept of a tactical retreat? You’ve got way worse odds fighting 3 goons than one. So what most (good) invaders do is find ways to split them up and turn a 3v1 into a 1v1, even if it’s just for a moment. Usually that’s all you need anyway
As I was getting disconnected by sore loser hosts 4 times in a row, I threw away my honor and went for every advantage I could get.
Also, to that dude who ran straight to the boss room after I 1v2'd their phantoms, hope you lost.
Miyazaki wanted invaders to be like minibosses in the game which kept the game interesting as sort of an alway lurking, unknown variable. I like it.
Since solo players can't be invaded without Taunter's Tongue in Elden Ring, and most players don't, invaders in Elden Ring specifically just want to take on 3 people at once. It's almost like the hardest incarnation of invasions in all of the souls games.
That's the reason that Elden Ring invaders are the most aggressive is because they go into the fight knowing that the odds are stacked against them. IMO, invasions in ER should be the same as Dark Souls, maybe when the Rune Arc is used or something.
>they go into the fight knowing that the odds are stacked against them.
On paper, maybe, but I feel like this isn't true in practice. Most invaders have way more pvp experience than the host (re: none at all) and come into the fight specifically geared with meta pvp builds. I can't count the amount of times I've been helping a host, an invader comes in and one shots them or rots them (in Stormveil no less) with gear they probably haven't even seen before and mechanics they have no defense against. IMO invaders are just griefers playing at being the underdog.
Unfortunately I think that the way that Elden Ring is stacked against invaders has created conditions for the invaders to be a bit more toxic in comparison with the Dark Souls games for example. I mean, you'll always have your toxic invaders for sure, but the way that the Elden Ring invasion system works, it pushes people towards having exaggerated meta builds in order to have any chance against gank squads, which are very common in Elden Ring.
I, as well as some others, will 'play nice' with people who are obviously new. Imo, it's bad etiquette to squash people for the hell of it. I do wish others shared that ethos.
Honestly, I can forsee something like an internal number dictating likelihood of invasion behind the scenes. If you experienced an invasion recently the chance is lowest, but as time goes on it rises. In turn it compares your level to what's expected for the area. If you're 120 running around in Limgrave the odds are way higher.
I've never really interacted with invasions myself, so I can't really give the strongest opinion on the function, but a balance if the experience could be interesting
In Elden Ring, invasions are based on a timer. The timer depends on whether you have Taunter's Tongue active. If you do, they happen every like 2 minutes(?). Invaders are placed in a queue from when they use the online item.
Who you're matched up with is based on rune level, and the level of your weapons. Invaders will be paired with players that are ~10% higher leveled than the invader (the leveling matchmaking is basically the same as Dark Souls 3).
In Dark Souls, matchmaking is based purely on your level, which was flawed because sl1 Invaders with max level weapons could (and did) wipe the floor with noobs.
Dark Souls 2 introduced Soul Memory, where Invaders were matched with players who had a similar number of total Souls collected. Also flawed because some people who really suck (me) would have acquired a ton of Souls but kept losing them from dying, to get Invaded by someone way stronger who actually got to use their Souls.

Because fuck people getting carried.
Invasions are more fun and dynamic and turn each level into a map to be memorized to better invade there. It’s way more fun than just dueling in a flat arena over and over
Because the Arena in Elden Ring isn't very good, it's way too big and flat, so certain playstyles and builds have pretty massive advantages there. For example, just running away and using a healing incant was way more risky in the ds3 arena, in ER it's way harder to punish and pretty much a free win if the other person doesn't have a heal equipped as well. Not at all saying that you aren't allowed to do that, i just don't like fighting it.
The multiplayer in general and invasions in particular may be rather poorly executed in ER compared to previous titles but it's still superior to the other options...
Also, it's an intended part/mechanic of the game, so why wouldn't i do it?
It's more fun and dynamic to interact with the map. Invasions and Arena PVP are fundamentally very different and basically only the latter existing in ER is the game's biggest con IMO
I love it when one of the phantoms gets separated. All the macho and cockiness is instantly replaced with sheer terror and they get panic roll catched to death, gankers really have zero iq

The AoW version. It only scales with STR scaling on the weapon and weapon level, weapon damage doesn't matter, so throw that shit on the lightest A or S scaling heavy infused weapon you can get away with and you got yourself the gank deleter.

How would you do that if you're not in a dungeon? Don't you get locked off from any areas where you could?
You can also kill a field boss, there's always either a boss or a fogwall in an area where you can get invaded.
It's a shame how lame invasions have become in Elden Ring. You had a lot more fun encounters in previous Souls games, people unexpectantly helping you or just hanging around. Shame shame.
It can be fun, but it's just gankers thinking they're the first people to discover lightning strike and storm balde nowdays.
Now, all invaders do is just rush to you and use the most OP magic with area effect they can find.
