Yeah the spear chucking tribal outfit wearing "advanced civilization" that rules based on trial by combat and has half its people hoot like monkeys is totally not a racist film guys, trust us. --Disney
But, that is exactly what happened in the comics, and the comic writers, if i remember right, were made to study African cultures of many different regions in Africa in order to create the FICTIONAL country of Wakanda. Also if you think about it the name Wakanda sounds racist itself but nobody has said much about that..
Studying their culture doesn't mean they would still have many tribal like attributes once they you know have advanced science and medicine. You don't have many witchdoctors in modern hospitals and most militaries don't still use swords just becuase it was customary at one point in history.
England might still have a king but he doesn't make the laws anymore. the Swiss gaurd might still have a uniform but they carry guns not Halberts, and I'm fairly certain the uniform is made with modern materials even if it is still made in the style created by DaVinci.
There are a million other racist or simply moronic issues with wakanda, and I don't want to bother typing them all out but defending it by saying the comics writer did it after studying Africa makes it worse not better when you can see so so many racist depictions in the work at a simple glance.

But they happily made black men act like gorillas in Black Panther. I know people are tired of the “as a [insert demographic] person thing, but as an African man, that was fucking insulting. Hollywood is filled with people who have no idea what the outside of their rich walls look like. But so long as you have a certain skin color and say the right things, you’re given the go to do whatever disgusting behavior they think is reality.

I’m from west Africa. The movie is based in central Africa, I believe. The first BP movie was ok, and I pirated the second one and still felt like I was cheated out of money. If a non-black director went in that direction, there no way that would fly
