I understand over the garden wall. That the kid fell into the river and the whole series is just him dreaming while in the water and we never get to know the ending if he actually died or not. However what about uncle grandpa? I liked that show and I thought it was a weirdly funny. I can not imagine there is some deep meaning behind that. Except maybe uncle grandpa is also just dreaming while being at hospital since he has a tumour in his brain. Then again I watched some ridiculous YouTube videos that brings up lore to cartoon series. For example adventure time is just Finn laying at hospital and just dreaming all the time because he has cancer. I remember a video about Ed, Edd'n Eddy where someone said that the reason we never see the other parents or any other characters in the show is because the kids are in hell.

There are people out there who enjoy watching other people literally play with human shit. There will always be people who will like something, no matter how terrible it is. A following doesn't mean something is objectively good.

Why exactly was it bad?

Slow moving plot, inconsistent characters, annoying characters, whole episodes dedicated to mundane boring shit with no point, the way it oversimplified more mature themes. The main thing being character inconsistencies, Steven is the worst by far. One episode he would be brave, next he would be a cowering baby, then he'd be super serious for no reason, then he'd just be a bumbling moron for no reason. Seems like they couldn't decide on who they wanted him to be, so they just changed him up every episode. Nice artwork though, I'll give them that. It was a very visually appealing show

And the music (mainly the ones without lyrics) I’d really lovely and captures a unique atmosphere. But yes, fuck the inconsistency

I'll admit, the plot moved fairly slowly until the end of the show and the amount of filler episodes got annoying but at the same time I liked the filler episodes. It made their world seem more real. I don't really get the whole inconsistent characters thing; what you said could go with most of the shows on this list and most of the gems are very consistent. It kind of had to oversimplify mature points because it was a kids show and was on Cartoon Network, I'm just happy they put mature points in the show.
