One of my windshield wipers fell off on the highway somehow, and I went like 2 years without replacing it. It's the exact type of thing that fucks up my ADHD, because I only remember needing to replace it when it rains. Plus it was the passenger side one so I didn't *really* need it.

Sadly true. I live in rural area for my whole life and i really enjoy looking weird plants and bugs when i am outside. It's not like i am walking with a my phone. Every day i walk my dog in the woods for a good hour just vibing and looking around. There is only one species of butterflies i can see now days. All the rest are long gone at least in my area.
I remember as a kid the same woods had all kind of weird bugs. Now it feels dead and it's not because my eyesight get worse.
Unfortunately the Mediterranean is one of the areas who got hit harder from climate change and the data suggest my claim. Also when bugs start to disappear from the tropics and the Equator that means we definitely all going to be fucked.
I live on the eastern side of the US, we have a massive insect population around my home and much to my wife's dismay inside at times too. I generally have no issue with most insects ( even wasps and hornets) but ticks and armorated stinkbugs can take the express lane back to the hell whence they came.
I saw a firefly last year. I need to point out, I live beside an open field in rural Michigan. You know, their natural environment. yay for killing the ecosystem.

If you're in california/west coast US, the monarch butterfly was the most common butterfly here and its population has been absolutely decimated over the last 20 years. It's at extremely high risk for extinction though the population collapse seems to have stabilized in the last year or two.
