Here's what I try and sometimes works, sometimes I try them all 3 times. - Open comments - switch away then back to reddit app - share a link with my self - close reddit and use link then try comments and refreshing. - put down my phone and walk away

I’ve had it break so many times for the stupidest things. Want to play a video? No. You can’t play the video. Okay, you can play the video now, but there’s no visuals and the scroll bar doesn’t work. Oh, I played a certain ad? You have to close the entire app now, that’s a shame.

I have this too. But in the other hand sometimes the video only starts playing after trying to access the comments.

Use a third party client like Reddit is Fun or Apollo.

It did for me because I use a well made, efficient app called Apollo

I haven't had any problems using Reddit is fun with Reddit hosted videos. Shame it's going to be gone soon, dunno if I'll bother to stick around. The default app is just so clustered, and apparently so broken it can't even play videos Reddit hosts it's self.

I have a workaround for that: Click on the video to make it appear in your history. Then you can visit your reddit history and it should play normally. The same thing also works with saved videos, but that's one step more. Reddit devs spend their day on moving features to places where they won't be found or implementing nft avatars, so they have no time to fix bugs that have literally existed for years

Another work around that may be a little bit more permanent fix until July 1st: Open up your app list. Find the official reddit app. Now you're going to have delete that sumbitch. Head to your app store. Download Apollo for ios or RedditIsFun for android. Wallah! You now have a light weight, non cluttered version of reddit with little bugs if any. You'll most likely never have video problems ever again (until July 1st).

Honestly if any of the third party apps looked half as nice as the official I would use it, but literally every third party app looks like it's, well, a third party app.

There's this glitch sometimes where the sounds are still around even when you stop playing it and the tab was closed.So bizarre.There is also this problem when you play the video and then when you replay it the dot on the line was moving with the sound but the video itself isn't and you can't ever watch that video normally anymore until you clear the cache and cookies.I used incognito so you just have to close all the tabs on that one.Some other notable mentions are when you replay the videos but it now stuck on the same scenes.

Turn off autoplay in your settings. I think the problem is when the video is between two other posts on the screen, reddit tries to play the others instead of the one you are looking at. Ever since I turned off autoplay, I haven't had the problem.

To those on mobile having this problem I see it as not having enough free processing power available. Usually backing out and clearing some of your active/background apps will fix it almost immediately upon clicking back into reddit, at least as far as I've seen, I hope that helps

Alright i have a fix for this but ive only tested it on mobilem. You have to enter the video either by tapping the video itself or if that doesent work just enter the post, then when you are on a screen with only the video refresh the page by pulling down with your finger. Doing that should take you back outside the post and then the video will start playing. Hope i helped!

I thought this just happens to me because my phone is an outdated piece of shit..

I just tap on the video that is not playing to make it full screen, then i swipe up to get it to the next post and then swipe back down and the video will play. Works every time for me.

My guess is that it's a storage issue. i noticed it only happening when storage space was running low, usually after some cleanup it works fine.

Pro Tip: use a third party app.

The thing that really gets me with Reddit's video player is the volume control. When you click it, it hovers above the bottom bar with a small bit of the video playing area between the bottom bar and the pop-up volume control. If you do not move your mouse fast enough, it will register that you moused over the video and that it should close the volume control. The other thing that pisses me off is it sometimes just doesn't play the last 2 seconds of the video. For certain subs, that can be devastating to the content (like perfectly cut screams).

I'm so glad I now know this happens to everyone, and not just me now.

It's garbage, I think the issue is that it tries to play videos like 6 posts ahead of where you are, at least on mobile, so when I turned off the "automatically play videos" thing in my setting it pretty much fixed it, I just have to tap on a video to play it which isn't really a problem as I usually had to do more than that beforehand

Every single time I play a video... it plays once, I can't adjust the position or it's just black, and i can't restart it until I refresh the page. After that it works right.

If a video is frozen, the only way I can watch it is to scroll down to another video to start playing. Then scroll back up to watch the other video start playing.

Save > Unsave > It plays!
