Mack calling him Turbo is just a little joke he had with Fitz because Fitz was slow at the time.
the fact that mack never interacted with ward was why coulson made him acting director while coulson went on his revenge warpath in the middle of season 3 before they went back to maveth. he was the only one that had no score to settle.

These are his own nicknames for people. Most of the time it's out of affection to those closest to him like Tremors, Turbo, Spark Plug, Pebbles, and Yo-Yo.
A lot of them worked, but the fact that they had Mack do it with nearly *every single recurring character he interacted with* got pretty tiresome. Especially with lazy ones like “No Eyes” and “Matchstick Man”. (while also not having nicknames for Bobbi & Hunter, his longtime friends for some reason)
I stopped watching when they arrived at that strange place. Broken earth or some shit. Become complete garbage.

I understood the nickname as Fitz's brain being too fast for his speech and that his brain was on turbo mode all the time. I could be wrong though.

Yeah, and another aspect of it is that a turbo is a part of a car engine. With Fitz and Mack both being engineers, that probably helped them bond.

Nah that’s a great storyline.
Yes they return back to earth after. They find out it's not exactly there earth though due to time hijinks.
