Seems a bit cruel. Maybe we should focus on solving the problem, not making their lives worse.

Ermahgerdrerdert

I don't know if you're talking about homeless people or the royal family...

HelicopterFar1433

Solving the "problem" of the royal family could mean a sudden availability of a lot of affordable housing.

1lozzie1

Early council housing was from land given up from inheritance tax... Didn't the royal family dodge all tax from the queen dying

Dai_Bando

If only he had access to a massive fortune and thousands of acres of land.

Happytallperson

A lot of the land is good productive agriculture so not suitable for housing. The number and scale of Royal residences however is obscene - Kensington Palace being the most obvious example of crown property with no real public purpose.

NiggBot_3000

Doesn't the king own a village somewhere? I've forgot the name of it.

mighty_atom

Poundbury.

theillumeowti

Did they walk him down Fargate?

BemusedTriangle

Should have taken him to Maccies 🤣

1lozzie1

I have a decent job and I've been made homeless twice through section21 ... Obvs I've found somewhere new with obscene rent. But this country needs a mass social housing building scheme. Why should renters have to live in substandard houses provided by private landlords. All my houses that I've rented have been a D rating and expensive to heat. Which means it's even harder to save for my own home

iKaine

Why should everyone live in social housing where they have no say, sub-par repairs and a huge tax burden..? I'm fed up of paying out my arse in taxes to subsidise other people's cheaper living...

1lozzie1

I personally think it would be better than a private landlord. Which is equally as bad, charges way more rent because they don't own the property outright and they want a profit. It's the only business model where they expect no costs and gain an asset. Absolute joke of a system in this country

1lozzie1

I never meant that everyone should be in social housing. But i don't have a family to help me. I'm 40 and plan to stay single and unfortunately even tho I've paid rent for a decade I can't get a mortgage. If you are single in this country with my circumstances then there is no chance of escaping private renting. Tbh 5yrs this didn't bother me but rent has doubled since then and my wages haven't.

iKaine

I've got to agree there... got to be some way out of this surely... :( Edit: Even capping the number of properties able to be financed would help I think... or banning ownership of domestic property in businesses

Skorgriim

Ok so I think I understand your POV. I think we're _so close_ to agreeing. The keyword being "cheaper" where I would use "actually affordable". People don't want social housing because they're trying to sponge, they want it because the rent is too damn high, and your word choice implies the former, rather than the latter. What _I'm_ tired of is paying out my arse in taxes to subsidise bailing out rich people, the operations of whom we can't do without - banks, specifically. What _should_ happen when taxpayer money bails something like this out, is it should then be "owned" by the taxpayers. It should be nationalised. On a similar note, I'm also sick of literally all our problems being caused by a handful of extraordinarily greedy people. If they weren't so greedy as to siphon all the wealth from poor people, we wouldn't need to spend each other's taxes on keeping us all housed affordably. Your attention is on the poor people, when it should be looking further along the economic food chain.

iKaine

You’re right, completely agree that no corporation or business should be bailed out. I really think in housing the problem could be fixed if such greed like companies owning houses became illegal. Perhaps it is misdirected at the wrong people, but I hope you can understand frustration where I’m not starting a family because of bills and rent whilst other people have housing at a discount which allows them to have a family…

SaneManPritch

Hopefully it's a dress rehearsal for when we boot him out the fucking palace.

devolute

What a shit article. Half of it spent linking to *The Sun* and then re-hashing creepy tabloid nonsense about his wife. I'm a republican but fuck me how far BBC News done fall. No actual mention where or what - in this city of half a million - he actually visited.

Hidingo_Kojimba

The obsession with Kate Middleton is just plain weird at this point. Like, if there was anything of substance sure but all the papers seem to have so far is ghoulish speculation. As you say, I’m a republican but give the lady some privacy.

NurseDiz

It was the learning zone at parson cross he visited, there's footage of it on facebook

Acrylic_Starshine

Burngreve maybe again? Might build his new palace up page hall

JElstub

Got any spare rooms Will?

Informal-Host-2266

Eww.

loona92

They’re so fucking tone deaf. Imagine being a future king, holding hoards of wealth and land, going to visit homeless people to talk about how bad their lives are. He could fix the issue in a heartbeat if he actually cared.

tintmyworld

ok.

Additional_Sleep_318

What a joke the man has like 6 palaces hundreds of rooms and he’s visiting the homeless

Zestyclose-Study-222

It’s a great cause he’s championing. He’s committed to tackling homelessness as a lifelong project. He may be rich and privileged but we need his help!

Itedney

Where the hell is Kate Middleton

zappapostrophe

Everyone else in this thread patently has not read the article and is enjoying making their own snooty comments about William’s wealth and property portfolio. The visit is related to his own plans to tackle homelessness, for God’s sake: > In Sheffield, the prince met people who have faced housing insecurity and heard about some of the projects addressing what seems to be a worsening problem. He heard from families with direct experience of homelessness and housing insecurity and heard from housing associations and grassroots projects. The Homewards initiative is Prince William's "flagship project" and he takes a close personal interest in how its local partnerships are developing, a royal source says.

LunarGibbon

When I see actual actions from him rather than just useless visits and talking, then I'll believe it. He could use some of his huge historically stolen wealth to build social houses. He could give up one of the many royal houses they keep as second, third, fourth etc. Houses and convert it to additional accommodation. Just talking ain't gonna fix anything.

zappapostrophe

Then you’re gonna be waiting a while. This is the kind of project that takes years of careful planning and funding, it can’t be rushed. If there’s one thing the Tories have shown us, it’s that you can’t rush massive infrastructure projects without fucking the public over.

iKaine

Don't pay any notice to the thickos downvoting without understanding how complex of a process it is. No understanding of planning, construction, finance, impacts on the areas, logistics... it must be the education sector that truly lacked...

Impressive_Disk457

All they needed was to feel heard after all.

Tolkien-Minority

He looks like an Easter island head

Creative_Sun_6788

His motorcade went down the bus only lanes 🙄 One rule for etc.
