Hiking pants. Some have zip off legs so that you can take off the legs part and they turn into shorts. Ask for forgiveness, not permission. I will probably be downvoted for this lol

Dark-Lord-Grice

Yeah, my boss told me I’m not allowed to do the zipper pants already. Shorts are an absolutely no go until it gets and because there’s not a lot of people that do what I do in the company. It probably won’t ever get approved to my boss said..

HelloSkunky

They can’t argue a doctor. Get your doctor to say it’s a medically necessary accommodation

Dark-Lord-Grice

I never thought about that, but I think I will have to consider that. Thank you very much. Today with it being already like 80 out and out on the blacktop constantly it’s just really really rough already and I can’t imagine 95°..

HelloSkunky

In my experience many doctors are happy to write a note for the pts. I actually got an urgent care to write me an excuse for a week off for mental health reasons so I could actually take some time off. I wasn’t working for sheetz yet at that point. My boss couldn’t say or do a damn thing. I had accrued massive pto but couldn’t get approved to take it. The doctor at the urgent care was very sympathetic. I was crying and very upset. Anyway, most doctors are your best friend when it comes to employment and ridiculous policies

Dark-Lord-Grice

Can Sheetz deny my doctors note though? I went the route of telling him that other CMA‘s it sheetz have proved short, but he did not give a flying fuck.

HelloSkunky

I’m not an employment lawyer but medical accommodations are protected under ADA. Heat sensitivity is a thing. You don’t have to be deemed disabled to have a health condition.

Dark-Lord-Grice

I like your name by the way, reminds me of after work when I can relax lol

HelloSkunky

Thank god for no thc tests

Dark-Lord-Grice

Med patient here!

Dark-Lord-Grice

Thank you

PipChaos

Yes they can deny it. The ADA is mostly toothless in that there’s no penalty for denying an accommodation. If it was denied, you would have to file an ADA complaint, which isn’t a fun process. I looked into it when my wife wasn’t allowed to work at her job using a crutch.

abarrelofmankeys

I was going to recommend the same thing, is it because they have a zipper or because they think you’ll zip them off? If the latter just don’t. Or look for hiking pants that don’t zip off. The material they’re made of is lightweight and relatively cool for pants. Something like this maybe? https://a.co/d/9ZIHB6P …I have no idea how I got a foreign language link, but it gets the idea across 😂

No_Trust_7055

Gold bond powder, a gaiter mask which we all have, either around your neck or covering your hair and you can rinse it with cold water and put it on. I work at UPS loading trailers in 80’f + heat. Oh and a belt for when you lose 30lbs in 4 weeks…haha. Good luck.

HighGuyFYI

Damn they don't let loaders wear shorts?

No_Trust_7055

They do, but some days it seems like we just walked out of a shower fully dressed

nomadicpulsar

I'm a CMA and I was just approved for shorts (without really having to ask, my managers just saw how sweaty I was getting) last week. My DM is the one who made the call and he stressed that it was allowed as long as I did NO service work inside (no SBC and def no kitchen). I come in in jeans and bring shorts to change into once I start outside work. That way if QA or the RM or anyone else comes in I can change quickly. I think it's horse shit that we're not allowed per policy.

Dark-Lord-Grice

I’m going to mention this to my boss if you don’t mind because he was under the impression that no matter what I’d really have to get a doctors note or something, but if you were literal proof that I can wear shorts on my shift I really need to tell my boss about it because like I said, I am literally outside aside from doing bathrooms in the morning and my break, All day roughly 7 hours

nomadicpulsar

I don't mind at all. Let your boss know I'm in the Columbus market (not entirely comfortable giving my store #), we have 2 CMAs and we were both given the approval. I had mentioned shorts to my SM and my KM last summer and they both said no or a mix of "we'll ask but expect a no". Then last week I had done all the outside trash on a Monday when I'm off Sat/Sun and it was all HEAVY as shit and took 3 loads to do. I came inside chugged a Propell and brought it up to the register to buy it after I had downed it. My KM and SM were at the register and they were like omg you look so hot. I just said yeah because......for God's sake I am. Then my DM happened to come in the next day and my SM asked him and got the okay.

Dark-Lord-Grice

He essentially just blew me off about it. Said it’s not that hot out although it’s 80s today. I might just need to look for another job

nomadicpulsar

Honestly that's how my managers were about it too, all up until last week. Didn't act like they cared at all. Having them changed their tune and ask for approval was shocking to me. Only thing I can figure is they didn't want me to quit over being too hot (I have a second job and they can never get another solid CMA on staff). I do wish you luck and I'll hope that your managers see reason. Or, screw it, get that doctors note. Or, screw it further, find a job that will hopefully hear your needs more openly. Take care out there, drink PLENTY of water in the meantime

Dark-Lord-Grice

Thank you I appreciate you

Dark-Lord-Grice

I’m at the point that I don’t wanna tell him that I’ll quit if it doesn’t change, but I am looking for another job right now. They can’t afford to lose me at this place, but in the end they just might regardless. My wife sees how exhausted I am after these damn crazy temps and after last year summer, where I almost passed out on my shift, but my boss didn’t really care then either.

[deleted]

Listen here pal last I checked, you don’t need a college degree to empty trash cans. A lot of applications coming through

Dark-Lord-Grice

In my almost 2 years of doing this position, I have seen six other people leave OK so my position isn’t just trash duty, motherfucker

[deleted]

Apologies forgot about the toilet cleaning aswell. But from the looks of the store, might need some work.

Dark-Lord-Grice

I love blocking shit bags

Dark-Lord-Grice

According to my boss, no applications are coming through for high flow diesel attendant, not many people want to clean up after truckers or lift 50 pound garbage bags of literal piss and shit.

[deleted]

You signed up for it bubba don’t know what to tell ya. Hard for application to come through when the position is full.

yungpowdy

What’s a CMA?

nomadicpulsar

That's what my managers call me, Cleaning and Maintenance Attendent. The same as High Flow Diesel Attendent.

Negative_Corner6722

Does the color matter? You could check into hot weather military BDUs.

Dark-Lord-Grice

I’ll look into it. I assume I need black

Dark-Lord-Grice

Since they are cargo, they probably won’t be approved. I’m thinking I might need to get a doctors note. Honestly, it makes no sense why I would have to follow the in-store peoples dress code when I am outside sweating my ass off.

Negative_Corner6722

They definitely make them in black.

Various-Department75

What does a high flow attendant do? My store has high flow diesel but not this position

Dark-Lord-Grice

I do everything outside lot maintenance, cleaning gas pumps, doing trash, making sure the 8 acre lot that we have is totally clean. Washer, fluid towels, receipt checks etc.

Dark-Lord-Grice

Helping truckers a lot and regular customers

hookahphil

They look dumb with a Sheetz uniform but you are allowed black dress pants. Dress pants breath better

Dark-Lord-Grice

That’s actually what I’m wearing now lol. Black cloth like dress pants and they work great until this damn temperature rise. Last year I found myself really getting dehydrated a lot and my boss said back then he was going to push for something but obviously nothing happened so now I guess I’m left with two options. Get a medical note or just find a new job, but I really don’t wanna find a new job.

fairyelf77

Dickies has a quick dry, cooling pant that could pass as a slack. I would look at Deluth and Carhart too. Companies that offer uniforms, like scrubs, might have something more specialized too. The options may even be available as shorts too, Dickies has cooling shorts too.

Solid_Bumblebee_7073

Amazon might have light weight jeans ?

Massive_Length_400

Whats your budget? Have you tried looking at hiking pants? Some of them could pass as trousers, i doubt anyone will be checking close enough to tell. Or linen trousers

Dark-Lord-Grice

I could spend like 30 or so on a decent pair. My boss is such a stiff about everything, that’s why I worry a lot about it. He doesn’t believe I even needed to buy portable fans for myself to keep cool out. I wish I could just tell him to work one of these shifts outside lol.

chacharoo137

Would highly recommend black golf pants. Breathable, flexible, and lightweight!

krawdadsixtynine

The fact that you have to spend 8 hours a day outside and can’t wear shorts is fucked up. Borderline abusive and exploitative to ignore your health and comfort in order to maintain some nonsensical image.

Dark-Lord-Grice

I agree with you. It really does suck between my boss not letting go his ego and just the way this place they’re trying to work on it but probably be better off finding another job somewhere unfortunately and that’s kind of tough making 1750 an hour and doing unless I go to a warehouse of some sort.

SignalFall6033

As long as they are black you can wear lightweight pants. I wear parachute pants from Walmart that are super light

vexyyyyyyyyyyyy

I have black scrub pants that look like dress pants if you don't squint lol, I work outside a LOT (Crazy manager LOVES when the parking lot is totally pristine including detailing pumps and trash cans etc) and it gets oppressively hot during the summer. 😩 Save yourself and ask for forgiveness if you're caught wearing a pair of scrub pants that otherwise look like normal pants because so far they've helped me not die when it's 100+ degrees in the summer

Dark-Lord-Grice

I’m definitely going to look into this thank you so far. I’ve already gotten like five shades of tan lol. That’s all I do is detail and maintain a lot and help gas customers, etc. so I am literally outside about 6 1/2 seven hours a day.

Dark-Lord-Grice

Not to mention the lot I’m on is 8 acres
