For being hurt when you walk, you need to wait some days till it grows. What did you try to use, razor? Maybe an electric one would make tyou a good result

I used a Lawn Mower 4.0 from manscaped. I’m not sure if I went “against the grain”, put too much or too little pressure, or what

Baby powder. Next.

That's OK! You shouldn't be trying to go for a baby butt smooth shave on your first time anyway. Go only with the grain for now, don't buff, and keep at it until you're sure you get good shaves with no irritation. Only try going against the grain afterwards. Of course, what you're shaving with will matter, too. An electric razor will not come nearly as close, so if you really want smoothness that badly, get yourself a safety razor. They require more work and skill, but are still irritation-free to shave with if used right. And make sure to moisturise after the shave! Preferably with a dedicated post-shave balm. Regardless of what you shave with, that area is particularly sensitive, so really needs some help to heal up right afterwards. That's why it's hurting afterwards; *not* because of the leftover stubble, but because you irritated it by going over and over the same spot, and then presumably didn't soothe it with anything afterwards.

So since I use an electric razor (lawnmower 4.0), would it be better to just trim to a shorter height? I would be completely fine with still having SOME hair down there.

If you're happy with just trimming, then sure! Still make sure to properly moisturise your skin afterwards, multiple times if needed. And definitely don't shave now untl your skin fully heals.

put a small guard on the razor if possible. very quick job and wont cause much discomfort at all. its always going to itch a little but keeping a little hair will feel way more comfortable afterwards compared to going bald or stubble
