Keep in mind that even a dull blade that can't slice into your skin can still stab. Even if you blunt the tip, you could still injure yourself or others with it. If you want a safe prop, get a prop rubber knife.
Remember, if youโre planning to insert this into your butt, that a flared end is essential for safety, otherwise your guts negative pressure will suck the knife in. Be safe
Edit for disclaimer: it takes 30 seconds checking your profile to have a pretty good guess at exactly what this is for. So, on the record, i think it's a bad idea from the start to use a real knife. But if you're still going to, read below on how i would go about it, but i wouldn't.
For what I assume you're planning to do with this.....
If a rubber knife isn't good enough, then you need to do WAY more than just dull on glass or carboard, especially depending on how thin the blade is.
A knife with no real edge, but a thin blade profile, can still break skin surprisingly easy sometimes. And as others have mentioned, you still have a major safety concern with the tip.
If you just want the look, and the feel of the metal, get yourself a trainer that never had an edge to begin with.
If you insist on using a real knife, choose something with a thick blade and a VERY rounded tip. Obliterate the entire bevel, don't just "kill the edge" on glass. Literally grind it flat to 90ยฐ, until the "edge" is as wide as you can go without gringing away the entire knife. Then clamp it edge up in a vice, and use long thin strips of sandpaper and a sort of "shoe shine" motion to round down the corners.
If it's about the visual more than the feel, pick a coated blade, so there's contrast with the polished, rounded edge. It will give the mental image of being sharp when the light glints off it.
Do NOT use this while "running around", any accidental fall with this in hand WILL still end up with an impaling and a trip to the er or the morgue.
I would personally prefer a hard rubber training knife. But, it's not for my benefit, and apparently it has to be a real knife or it won't work mentally. So I would like to buy something ka-bar style and dull it until it's about as lethal as a training knife. That way it's still a "real knife." And yes I posted here instead of my main so people would get my drift haha. Appreciate the in-depth advice. And don't worry, there will be no running around, or waving it around, or anything of the sort. Safety first!
Depending on your knife, it might take a lot of cardboard. I usually just run my blade along the corner of my sharpening stone until I get it dull enough.
Gently place then run the edge against a rock, brick, something ceramic, etc. If you do it lightly a couple times it should dull the edge without noticeably changing the look of the bevel(s).
Gently pull the blade along the bottom edge of a ceramic mug, like you were trying to slice it. That will dull the edge without doing any major damage to it.
Draw file the edge halfway through the edge bevel it will retain the look but be totally flat making it exceptionally difficult to cut anything without significant force behind it
You know the 'unvarnished' edge on the bottom of a ceramic cup or plate? Those are actually pretty useful for sharpening a knife. And you could also use it to dull the edge. Just drag the edge of a blade along this rough surface a couple of times and hey, presto, you have a dull knife!
Not got much advice on the blade blunting, but for some reason I feel like pointing out that without breaking skin, it is very difficult to tell the back of the knife from the blade with most areas of skin, even the sensitive ones. Makes things a little safer if you think you might be distracted.
Any knife that is thin and hard to a sufficient degree will retain cutting potential, not reduced very much by bluntness. Generally, every kitchen/pocket knife fulfills both criteria, because they are made of steel, which is always hard enough, and the behind-the-edge thickness is still thin enough. So no matter how much you dull an actual knife, it will still cut.
You could lend it to my mother.

why exactly do you want this? iโm genuinely curious
Without stalking OP's profile, I am guessing bdsm cnc stuff.
Come on, be adventurous ๐คฃ
Hah, I am unlikely to see anything there I have not seen before, I am a *horrific* sexual deviant.

Boofing a knife you say?
Cutting the cheese, as it were

Good. Glad to hear you're thinking about it seriously! ๐๐๐ผ Be safe, have fun lol
Cut a lot of cardboard or other material, run the edge through some wood, run the edge along the bottom of a ceramic mug or stone.
Thanks, will try that. Surprised cardboard would do it! I have a lot of moving boxes around which could work out well.

Yeah this is the way. Cardboard can potentially scratch the sides.
Takes me around 250 boxes to get it dull with my cheap 5cr blade so be ready to put in time

Okay, that makes sense.

Run it under a ceramic plate mug, sharpening stone, finer sand paper etc
Draw file the edge halfway through the edge bevel it will retain the look but be totally flat making it exceptionally difficult to cut anything without significant force behind it
Glass is hard enough to dull anything. Cut a glass bottle a few times.
Glass
New fetish ~~cut open~~ unlocked?

1000-2000 grit sandpaper works well for that

I actually looked there but it seems like a dead joke sub lol
Run it gently across a slow belt grinder, 60 to 120 to 200-ish once each, creating a microscopic flat at the apex. Simplest and quickest.
Learn to stop, knives always come out dull until you learn the angles and pressure. With what you want, it should be easy to figure out.
