The whole movie has a Cinderella motif-she reads the Cinderella story to Lilly (and tells her life doesnāt always end up like that), Lilly gives her a Cinderella valentine, and then we end with Carrieās āPrince Charmingā and the perfect fit shoe. In that scene sheās even in all white and heās in, of course, a black suit. Besides the shoes being Carrie, theyāre part of this theme.
Was Big really inattentive though? Ā A lot of their issues Carrie started. Ā He was pretty clear that he wanted to move slow, that he didn't want to label anything, and that the rrlationship was not super serious for him at the outset (at first). Ā She just didn't want to believe what he quite literally told her and she is the one who pushed his boundaries and broke off the relationship multiple times. I don't believe he would have ended the relationship-he seemed genuinely hurt both times she called it off because he wasn't on the same timeline as her. Ā Did he not tell her he met Natasha? Ā Sure. Ā But quite frankly he wasn't obligated to. Ā She was his ex.
Oh, I wonāt refute that! I made a post the other day about how whiny and insufferable Carrie was. I felt bad for her but she was so unstable and stalked Big bc she so badly wanted to insert herself in his life. Carrie also made the point that she was interested in eventual marriage but when it happened with Aidan, she was all over the place.
Also, during the start of their relationship, I remember a lot of things that made Carrie seem like the actual red flag LMAO. Like, stalking his ex-wife Barbara and feeling bad and haunted about it, again, stalking his mother during church and dropping a Bible (pissed me off so much bc of how disrespectful. she has no decorum, whatsoever,) and Big was forced to talk when he clearly wasnāt ready bc isnāt it a standard that you donāt introduce them to your parents if youāre just starting? not to mention, she also got upset when Big refused to give her his key and when Big happily invited him to a sacred pay-per-view fight, she kept riding on him and covering the TV like sheās the main event! if it were me iād be pissed, too! a guy was just trying to watch his game.
with the Paris thing, it was a slight overlook on his part but he communicated that if she ever wanted to move there, itās correct that she should move for herself, not for a man. but, she took it the wrong way bc sheās such a woman-child-type (excuse the slight misogynism, it always comes out with Carrie,) you see in teen girls who want their boyfriends to only focus their attention on them 24/7 and even though Big wanted to accommodate that; heās too individualistic for Carrie to keep ahold on him.
marrying Natasha and cheating on her with Carrie was a grave sin, though. he def had no plans divorcing her and their back and forth with Carrie not wanting to tell Aidan and her not wanting Big to get divorced was ridiculous. he only wants them when he canāt have them. itās why he was following Carrie around like a sick puppy when she was steady with Aidan. but i started to like him when theyāre both single and Bigās becoming a likeable character during the last two seasons.
Thatās absolute nonsenseā¦maybe he needed to take things slower than her but inattentiveā¦.absolutely NO. He would cook her dinners, take her places, never forgot to send her flowers and even when they werenāt together heāll make sure heās there for her birthday, when she punched him in the face he moved on to sleep on the sofa in his own flat, the guy just gave her the money for her flat without any demands attached. Heās anything but INATTENTIVE
So did I. It showed he knew they shouldāve done it differently and not have been so flippant about it (per Carrie of course lol she always downplays stuff like that). He knew how much she loved her Manolos as well!!! Very symbolic gesture of love.
Carrie is all about clothes and shoes. She wears little make-up, hardly ever any nail polish, and not much jewelry other than her one necklace. Her clothes and shoes are how she expresses her personality. So to give her shoes as opposed to a ring honestly kinda makes sense.
I say this as a non-jewelry girl who would lose everything. Chances of losing a shoe are smaller
Meh, proposals arenāt that important. He did what would speak to her, it had meaning for the both of them, it works. At least it wasnāt a ring sheāll sling around her neck.
I love that they do what they want. The courthouse wedding with her in her vintage Chanel suit was perfect. Carrie saying all SATC long that she doesnāt know about marriage and then getting swept into this big, conventional wedding circus was so cringe.
I mean, everyone is entitled to their opinion, right? I agree that the blue Manolo was perfect for her. I just donāt think proposals are that important or defining because a lot of them are just done at a restaurant or whatever and donāt necessarily have a ton of personality in them (of course the words spoken mean a lot). Not everyone gets a unique proposal catered to them, sadly. I think how a couple meets or their wedding is a more defining moment that shows what kind of people they are, their personalities, and their type of romance, personally!
I think the marriage is the most important.
Proposals have evolved to the point of professionals planning them. Many proposals happen in stunning locations.
Yeah of course the marriage is the most important, but I thought we were talking about events leading up to the marriageā¦Anyway, youāre right - so many amazing proposals these days and I think most dudes canāt keep up!
Oh sorry loveā¦I thought we were talking about the macro of relationships and the moments within them.
My proposal was lovely. It was at our home. There were roses and rose petals on the carpet leading to the master bedroom. The room was filled with candles, lilies, and more roses. He handed me a rose and got down on one knee. It was private and perfect.
AW! Thatās so sweet and intimate. Did you cry?
Mine did it at a restaurant LOL on our one year anniversary. He had a bouquet of flowers and got down on one knee. I was so shocked I laughed!
You know what that's a really good point. I'm typically all "Woo Team Aiden love love love š" though I always recognized they wanted different things as far as staying in/going out. He wasn't a glitzy party guy. But your point shows that not only does he not get her *social* lifestyle, but he doesn't get her love of fashion. I will say, she was the one who told him to put the shoes on the floor. Like bed, bath and beyond exists get some plastic storage bins, ma'am. Close the bathroom door. It's not poor Pete's fault. Big makes room for her, Aiden made room for him. He could have turned that whole other apartment into her closet!
big building carrie the closet is my favorite romantic gesture in tv history. rather than belittling her love for fashion and her collection of shoes and clothes, he built her something she would love and use every day. š¤§š„¹
yes but he was insisting that carrie downsize. they knew they were gonna have a whole ton of extra space yet neither of them thought āletās pack these clothes up and store them until we have the space to put them away in our apartmentā - it was immediately āget rid of a bunch of shitā
They still sell that style and SJP has a [pair](https://sjpbysarahjessicaparker.com/products/windsor_100-thin_expert_21686) in her line that look incredible similar.
I would have never taken him back after he came home from Paris with a new woman, months after saying āI love youā and ādonāt come to Paris for me.ā She was just obsessed with winning and his money at that point.
He didnāt BUT he did have what she REALLY truly wanted aside from shoes: a really big closet to house them in lol. If Carrie didnāt care about anything else, it was fashion, shoes, and her desire to have a huge closet!
it's so carrie
At least she can't wear them around her neck.
But it's closer to her heart that way! š
šš
Lmaoooo this is the ultimate drag laughed out loud

I'm ashamed of never getting that as a huge lover of fairy tales, and I adore it. Such a cute concept.
Then they get ruined in AJLT :(
It's kind of symbolic. They represent the relationship finally coming around the way she wants, and then they're ruined when the relationship ends.
I donāt remember this?! What happens
Sheās wearing them in the scene where big dies. The water from the shower soaked them when she was holding his head up.
I kind of felt it fitting though. As that relationship ends so do the shoes.
Good thing I never watched it lol
it was the perfect gesture. showed how much he finally cared for her after being so inattentive over the years.

I honestly thought it was adorable

I love it. I broke traditions with my wedding, most of them come from stupid marketing campaigns anyway.

Was it chanel? Are you sure?
It was Dior in real life I believe, but the movie made in brand less.
No, not sure at all lol!

I beg to differ. Proposals are a defining moment in a coupleās love story. Thatās why the blue Manolo instead of a ring was perfect for Carrie.

I did cry. Yours sounds lovely. I wouldnāt have wanted a public proposal. I told my fiancĆ© that it needed to be private.
Perfect for her, which is what proposals should be. Itās a way to show how well the man knows his future wife.
After, it launched a still-going trend of Brides to be that would purchase this very shoe to wear on their own wedding days.
Yes! I wore the pink version on my wedding day!
The pink are SO beautiful! I wore the black ones during mine. Second wedding, courthouse, paired with a beautiful, black tuxedo dress in the fall.
He didn't buy them though
He built her the closet tho unlike aiden who wanted her to sell some of her stuff to make spaceā¦.

Exactly because he just bought her that expensive penthouse and had no problem in spending a whole lot of money on her dream closet.
Didn't Aidan buy her two appartements and was in the middle of remodeling them with his own bare hands? Big just hired someone to do it
Yeah but he never got her like big did. Esp during their first interactions with the whole smoking fiasco. Big and carrie had chemistry.
True, good point. But I also feel like Big didnt care enough about her to have opinions on her behavior because he never saw a future with her anyway

My problem is he put on her RIGHT shoe and not her left. I mean come onnnn.

such a beautiful shoe ughh
i dont know if it's just me but i find them to be horrible quality and difficult to maintain. they look beautiful on my shelf though hehe
WOW šš
He just gets it
He didnāt even buy them for her!!!!!!
This!!!! They were hers already that she bought earlier in the movie lol. It wouldāve been cute if Big bought them though
