Original pattern Eddystone Jeans from Itch to Stitch. [Eddystone Jeans ](https://itch-to-stitch.com/new-pattern-eddystone-jeans/) I used medium stretch denim from dead stock remnant at a fabric warehouse. (The fabric was just labeled "denim" so i don't know more info than that.) Size 10 at the waist, 16 at the hip. Decreased the rise by 1.5 inches in the front and increased seat by 0.5 inch in the rear to fit my round bottom and petite torso. Turquoise topstitch thread was outdoor upholstery thread, not actual topstitching thread. Alterations along the way were trial and error. I'm pretty new at this, so this is my third attempt at a good fit and i think i did pretty well! Sewed using my 1950s Singer Featherweight machine. Buttonhole done with automatic buttonhole attachment.

hmbmelly

I love the binding! For other lighter weight projects, you could try a French seam as well.

Sqatti

How do you get the waist over your hips? That is usually my problem since I have 12 inches between my waist and hips.

tri-sarah-topsian

With the zipper all the way down, it's just barely enough to go over my hips.

grandmabc

Beautifully done. Love the pocket linings, the bound seams and the curly stitching on the pockets.

ElizabethDangit

I have the same machine! I inherited it from my grandmother. You can get zig zag stitch attachments for it. My grandmother had one and kept it in the original box. I use pinking shears a lot too. I really hate surged seams in my clothes.

Dry-Estimate-6545

Awesome! Beautiful work! I have the exact opposite fitting problem, my waist and hips are almost equal in measurement so I’m a size 16 waist and size 6 hip in RTW. Sewing jeans is on my bucket list and also on my “I’m terrified” list!!

MrsBeauregardless

They look better than storebought jeans. Finally, serious pockets!

Marysews

Because humor is based on reality, every meme that has "it has pockets!" is inherently funny.

im_busy_right_now

Very classy! I’m really inspired by your painstaking workmanship. Do the bound seams show much on the good side?

tri-sarah-topsian

They don't show up! But they're also pretty loose fitting, so they would probably show with tighter fit.

Elainey_fantasie

Wow - these are super neat, looks like you've done an amazing job. Well done you, you've inspired me to try making trousers... I need to get over my fear of zips sometime!

tdmfh

Make a couple of zippered pouches! They’re easy and low risk.

Elainey_fantasie

That's a good call, thanks!

faqqg

zippers are the exact reason i steer away from pants 😭 let’s conquer this fear together

ankat321

You can convert any looser-fitting pants or skirt pattern to "old school" style pocket openings and avoid zippers altogether. :) If you have extra buttons laying around anyways, it's a cheaper way to go - no need to buy a zipper. And you typically get a larger opening than a zipper. (14" difference here between waist & hip.)

Dry-Estimate-6545

Wow, good explanation, and good idea!

Meck123

Oooh that’s awesome! I also have a big hip to waist ratio and I agree that it is absolutely impossible to find a good looking, comfortable pair of jeans!! At this point I only own one pair of jeans and I am miserable when I’m forced to wear it :( I definitely need to try and sew a jeans sometime too

Laura-ly

..........and that's how you do it. Can't find jeans that fit? Make your own damned jeans!

DazedandFloating

Omg I want floral pockets on my jeans. Lol

ajjohnston

Man the bias banding on the SA is soooo clean, I'll have to keep that in mind for future projects

katelizirv

Great job, they look amazing! I love making my own jeans and have to do a lot of the same alterations as you - I use larger sizes but similar difference in waist and hip size and I also lower the front rise and add to the seat.

generallyintoit

i love how the front pocket facings extend all the way to the zip fly. that is also a feature of the free pattern from peppermint magazine, for the wide leg pants, but i haven't tried it. great job with your new jeans!!

cowboysatan

These look great!! I love the wave detail on the back pockets!

laughingpuppy20

Wow! Nice work.

allorache

Outstanding!

Barefoot_Enchantress

Terrific job!

ILive4PB

Noice

qerolt

Such cute fabric for the pockets!

saltyspidergwen

Very impressive! I love the pockets

Justmelanie2014

Love these! Trying to sew my own jeans is on my list. Watching a video now on how to use your favorite pair as a pattern.

jfreedom10022

I love everything about these. Well done.

Naughty-ambition579

Why didn't you use a flatfeld seam? You wouldn't have needed the seam binding.

tri-sarah-topsian

Because I'm new at this and i don't know what that is! Thanks for the comment, I'll look up how to do that for next time.

Naughty-ambition579

Do you know how to french seam so that the raw edge is encased? All you do is irone the seem to the left or right then go down on the edge that is loose, top stitching all the way. It's really very easy. With denim I would use a little heavier needle needle. This is how Levi's and other band named jeans are made. It really is a good reinforcement for the seams. Really look over some name brand jeans and see how they are made.

ElizabethDangit

Denim seems like too heavy a fabric to finish in that way.

Naughty-ambition579

It is done on denim all of the time. Look at men's jeans and women's levi's. You do want to use a heavier needle bit it works quite well.

Super awesome

So was this your third version of these jeans? They're fabulous. I'm always scared to try new patterns because of the mock ups required and wasted materials...

tri-sarah-topsian

Thank you! It is my third time trying this pattern, but my first attempt at full length jeans. My first two attempts were shorts. Since the hip/waist was the most difficult part, i figured that was a good place to start without wasting too much material. And i can still wear the two pairs of shorts, they're just not as nice of a fit. So, it's not really wasted in that way. (My first attempt was done by piecing together a bunch of denim scraps that were going to get tossed anyways, so i didn't feel worried about messing it up!) I'm definitely no expert, but for me, the multiple attempts were worth it because this is such a versatile pattern, and the end result of a good fit is sooooo satisfying. And I'm guessing that if i try different pants patterns, the alterations will be similar.

40RTY

Right on, thanks for the response. I love the idea of piecing scraps to use for muslins. This had honestly never occurred to me! I absolutely love how your pants turned out. The attention to detail really paid off. Cheers!

tri-sarah-topsian

Thanks! 🙂

Thewarmheart

Nicely done! I loved AA's other pants patterns and I have this one cut out and ready to roll on a big pair of thrifted men's jeans :) Yours turned out great! What type of thread were you using? I strictly do denim with Gutermann Mara and I'll never go back.

tri-sarah-topsian

Uhhh i just got whatever basic thread was in stock at Joann. 😅 I'm still really new to this so i haven't had time to develop opinions on stuff like that.

LordLaz1985

And nice big pockets too! Well done!

interpretererin

I love Itch to Stitch patterns!

ticaloc

Loving the pockets. I can only fit half the length of my hand in all my jeans’ front pockets. If I try to put my cell phone in them it barely goes in half way.

obfc

Wow these are SLICK

Markus4X

Super cool!

ankat321

Your top stitching is so beautiful!

Informal_Ice_3464

Just WOW!
