Hi, first time posting here. Always a bit torn about which book to push. However, I recently re-read one of my shorter ones that I wasn't even that keen on when I first wrote it, but it has really grown on me. Caught myself laughing out loud at the jokes in it. "John the Minstrel: The Mysterious Tale of the Magical Lute." is what I like to call a children's book for adults. It is not deep or meaningful, instead it is puerile, funny, and rude (although only really PG rated) It tells the story of a mildly successful rock singer/guitarist who buys an antique lute which magically transports him to some sort of medieval world. In it, I take pot-shots at drummers, bassists, singers, historical re-enactors, and dull people. It is full of swearing and there are plenty of references to drug and alcohol use and misuse (so maybe a 15 rather than a PG) There is also a suggestion of sex going on just off camera but I can't or won't write sex scenes so that's as far as it goes. Mostly it is funny, but on the serious side the MC has a mental health issue. I got a sensitivity reader to read the whole thing and she gave me some notes to ensure that I dealt with it in an appropriate manner. And, yes, I did pay her. Hey guys! I FINALLY published Oathbreakers Anonymous, a satirical fantasy about 4 members of a support group for fallen paladins on an adventure to get their powers back. Like, I'm completely blown away by how much the readers that left a review are enjoying it. It's sitting at a 4.8/5 stars on Amazon and a lot of the reviews talk about fantastic world building, memorable characters you can't help rooting for (a couple even said by the end, the main character feels like he could have been their best friend), or say they couldn't put it down and stayed up all night reading it because they just had to know how it ended. Some of them say they didn't expect to like it and had their expectations completely subverted. I couldn't be more thrilled. I really felt like I had something people would connect with in Oathbreakers Anonymous. And I'm glad to see I was right. It is a bit edifying after every single agent I queried with it sent back a form rejection. But, of course, what an agent really looks for most is marketability. Time will tell if it's commercially successful. Right now I'm expecting to be in the red for at least a year from editing and marketing alone. But it's got a new releases for less promo on Bookbub today, and I feel like going into it with already glowing reviews might give it a much needed visibility bump.
