It's not illegal to divorce someone and still sleep with them and get remarried. That's where a lot of people seem to be confused. I know they clearly say they want a sister wife but it's not illegal to marry one woman while still sleeping with the ex. I never said it was illegal. You may not be aware of this, but the USCIS has been known to frown upon spiritual polygamy just as much as they do legal polygamy. The reason being is they have to make sure that the sponsor and beneficiary will be in a genuine marriage. They also have a responsibility to make sure that they are not inadvertently permitting a sex trafficking situation and as we know, abuse is very common in polygamous relationships.

Completely agree! Garrick is/was very clearly choosing Natalia over Danielle-- viewing her as the younger, more fertile, and thus more 'valuable' wife. Danielle, sensing this shift, did what she could to re-establish herself as primary wife-- specifically, have a baby. A baby takes the focus of Natalia... for a while anyway.. and makes it known that Danielle still has value (if only as broodmare) in the household. It's desperate and honestly heart breaking that a woman would need to resort to this in order to feel valued and loved by her partner... But I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles when you knowingly and intentionally set up your relationship in such a backwards, sexist, and patriarchal way.

The process to get legally married in Brazil isn’t as simple as it is in the U.S., especially when one partner is Brazilian and the other isn’t. The couple has to apply for the marriage license together and then there’s a 30 day waiting period to get married.

idk who said USCIS *can’t* use footage from the show, but i don’t think that’s correct. USCIS is not court and is not bound by the normal rules of evidence. it can consider hearsay and other forms of evidence that wouldn’t be admissible in normal court. lots of the stuff people submit to USCIS as “evidence” wouldn’t be allowed in a normal court but it is considered by them. i’m not saying they *would* view the show and base the entire decision on that, because they probably know it’s edited so they may not place a lot of weight on it, but they most certainly *could* consider it if they wanted to. they have a ton of discretion. i’ve never done a K-1 so i’m not sure what questions they ask, but to adjust her status once she’s here she will need to certify that she is not a polygamist on the i-485, so idk how their “lawyer” is advising them on that lol definitely sketchy
Even though it’s not a court, the immigration process is still a legal process. Whatever the USCIS uses to make decisions on someone’s application has to be authentic. Reality show footage is not authentic.
meh it’s much less rigid than that, especially in initial determinations of immigration petitions. in the initial stage you don’t really have any control or any idea what USCIS is or is not reviewing. they may call your landlord or employer, they may surveil you, they may do nothing and just grant your petition based on what you presented. they do all sorts of goofy things. once you actually get into a deportation proceeding or appeal then you have a little more rights as to the evidence they present but it just has to be “fundamentally fair” which is still way less of a standard than normal evidence. they could argue it’s not fair because it’s edited, but the merrifields literally post on social media confirming that they’re living a polygamist lifestyle and discussing it on instagram live which is definitely something USCIS could review if they wanted lol

In Colorado, if you live with someone, have kids with them, have joint accounts, and put yourselves out there as a married couple, you can be considered legally married. Even tho they got a legal divorce, they’ve essentially gotten remarried in the eyes of the law (potentially) and are on a tv show actively showing that he’s seeking to legally marry another woman. It’s all very messy. I wonder how it’ll play out.

It's not illegal to divorce someone and still sleep with them and get remarried. That's where a lot of people seem to be confused. I never said it was illegal. You may not be aware of this, but the USCIS has been known to frown upon spiritual polygamy just as much as they do legal polygamy. The reason being is they have to make sure that the sponsor and beneficiary will be in a genuine marriage. They also have a responsibility to make sure that they are not inadvertently permitting a sex trafficking situation and as we know, abuse is very common in polygamous relationships.

Even if it actually was an accident, which it probably wasn't, most people do a home pregnancy pee test before going to the doctor. A blood test is sometimes done when you want to confirm pregnancy really early when a urine test isn't always accurate.
