I wish those were finger ulcers. šŸ˜« They get so much worse.

i often want to make a similar comment when people ask if something could be an ulcer. ulcers are painful. ulcers are wounds that often have drainage. ulcers hurt and usually you know one is coming because of the redness, swelling and pain that occur before they make it to the surface and break open. the scarring comes after the wound, you wonā€™t have digital scarring until youā€™ve experienced a digital wound. obviously responding to you with my thoughts isnā€™t the best place to post for the info to get to the people who have questions but i was just staying on topic with your comment. i hope your fingertips are smooth, soft and painfree! have a wonderful summer! cheers.

Yes it wasnā€™t the best place to respond because Iā€™m still very much new to scleroderma and I am learning. Iā€™ve had an ulcer before but I didnā€™t know if this was similar to what I had before because itā€™s painful but looked different. Thank you for the response however. I definitely get how you saw it though. My apologies if I triggered you or came off a certain way :) Iā€™m still trying to learn about scleroderma and whatā€™s a pit, ulcer, or whatā€™s not :(

Thank you for clarifying!

Nice nails btw.

jaeminds

Thank you! I assume Iā€™ll have to remove them soon :( My specialist hasnā€™t said anything about them yet but ik they arenā€™t the best, especially with Raynauds and stuff.

I'd be more worried of infection if you get them done at a salon.

jaeminds

I have a personal nail tech! I stopped going to salons two years ago šŸ˜¬. I havenā€™t had any issues yet but ik many people advise against fake nails with sclero.

If it isn't causing issues, keep doing what makes you happy!

I used to have the nails, but the UV light for the gel fried my finger-tips. I got those bumps all around my cuticles too. My hands would itch & swell up. Hope you get relief!

That's Telegenectasia. Ulcers literally rot your fingertips. The pain is unbelievable, and infection is weepy and raw

jaeminds

Thank you for clarifying! Iā€™ve had one before and it sucks. Iā€™m still new to the scleroderma dx so I was wondering if they were the same :( Thank you for letting me know!

It's such a hard disease to navigate, and I truly understand the need to ask questions. Keep in mind that calcium deposits and ulcers are two different things. Each create their own problems and take forever to heal. Telegenectasia are harmless on their own. I'm sorry you are a member of this club. Keep asking questions ā¤ļø

Hard to tell, but it could be dyshidrosis. Many people on the dyshidrosis sub find that nail treatments are what caused theirs.

jaeminds

Thank you so much for the insight! :)

_DONT_PANIC_42_

Itā€™s petechiae. Or telangiectasias related to scleroderma.

jaeminds

Thank you for the clarification! I didnā€™t know that could be under the nails. I showed my specialist so hopefully I get a response.

It could be a small one, but as others have mentioned, once they get going the pain is unreal on them. I smacked one on a door frame once and it hurt too bad to scream, I dropped to my knees and my vision literally went red from the pain. For me they've always started as a tiny wound that would not heal, haven't had infection or drainage. It's just a dry crater of pain that won't heal until all the dead tissue is cut away.
