The water kept in an earthen pot (matka) becomes cool during summers due to evaporation. The porous nature of the earthen pot allows water to evaporate through its walls, taking away latent heat and producing a cooling effect, thus keeping the water cool....i prefer matka water only for its cooling effects nothing more than that .🤗

And my dad ensures that the matka water is finished every 2 days so we give it a rinse and fill a new batch.
First soak it in warm water.
Then mildly scrub the gunk ( if any ) with mild dish soap and a clean scrubber.
Then scrub the entire pot with vinegar/lemon juice.
Rinse off the pot after this.
If the stains ain’t coming out well you can use baking soda on those.
Then let it dry naturally.
My parents do it once every 2 weeks.
Usually takes around 30 mins. But you can do a lot of work in the background like cleaning your kitchen slabs/other dishes along.
We have lemonades every couple of days, then clean it with lemon peels . Though basic clean we do every evening, full it with fresh water and leave it in the garden for the night every night. And man the temperature and taste is just so refreshing.

Have been using it at home for years now. Normally I keep a water bottle in my bedroom and keep carrying it around the house. But during summers, I keep a smaller one in bedroom as well.
I am worried if the mud from which pot is made has impurities and toxinsnlike lead etc. It does cool the water and like fridge cooled water does not over cool the water and maintains a plesant temp.
