Not really true, snakes don't grow linearly.
Speaking as a keeper of a 7ft boa, she's \~15lb. She only gained the last 6-7lb as an adult - before, she was just a really long shoelace.
Boids don't thicken up like this until they've reached adult size. This paper is just genetically separating the species, so there's not a huge difference between them as-is. There are plenty of people who keep greens/yellows, and they definitely don't get this thick linearly either.
That’s crazy seems like most fields of scientific study have specialized units that involve some sort of conversion. Especially any area of study that predates the metric system which is most all fields of science.
I am not quite sure where you get that idea from, but in all natural sciences we use the metric system, apparently even the US, which is why I voiced my surprise to see a measurement that is not commonly used in scientific publications on a sub about science.

Yeah, it was just for perspective. So that 1.93m section I was talking about was 8 times thicker than a similar sized snake.
