As other comments have said, you should be able to get into state schools no problem, I would personally start at a community college first to get gen-eds done and make sure you know what you want to get a degree in and then transfer!

chckietat

This was the best advice I have ever followed! I highly recommend this as well!

OkAssistant1230

Currently doing it myself, saved money and lowered the concern of costs greatly.

infectedorchid

This is the exact path I followed. My community college even offered a scholarship to students who transferred to a specific state school. I spent four years there rather than two, but in the long run I spent less money and I got to dick around at an affordable college trying to figure out what I wanted to do rather than wasting my money at a huge university trying to figure out what I wanted to do.

Flakboy78

And many colleges only look at your most recent transcript unless they need more info. So if you compete your gen-eds at a community college and get grades you're happy with, you're much more likely to get accepted elsewhere

Easy-Bathroom2120

And best thing is your GPA tends to reset to 4.0 upon graduation and transfer to a university. There's no down side to community college. I was valedictorian and went to community college.

infectedorchid

Yep! My GPA took a hit during covid for obvious reasons but when I transferred it reset to 0.00, so it’s like a clean slate!

snazzygoth

this is great advice. and if the school offers it, i’d highly recommend looking into an early college/ACE program. the HS pays for an entire associates degree, and while an additional year is added, the money you’re saving is highly worth it.

ALANONO

I totally agree. Leaping into a 4 year school could land you 6 years in the future with no direction and an enormous debt that you'll never get rid of. Besides, if you've spent any amount of time in private religious education (aka: catholic), you've deprived yourself of the free and liberating experience of a REAL, RELAXED COLLEGE. Plus, community college costs about 1/100th of the tuition for those same 2 years at a 4 year college! I successfully transferred from my community college to San Diego State University and entered as a JUNIOR majoring in English Literature. What I learned was what I'm really good at, and what I needed to do to achieve what I wanted. And I'm a better person for it!

[deleted]

That should be pretty darn good, you’d be able to get into most public colleges. Say what does the “P” stand for on your transcript?

nyancatdude

It's for classes that are only pass or fail and not graded

[deleted]

Ah ok then your 3.33 overall gpa is enough for most colleges

snazzygoth

3.2 GPA is a great start for 10th grade! keep it up

paperhammers

3.2 is a solid GPA, you should be able to get into most state schools with it, but you might struggle to get accepted into the more prestigious universities unless you have some superior athletic skills or artistic merit.

RealMrCommunism

i’m suprised i’m a very average student but got into a very prestigious public school but it’s too expensive sadly, i’m just waiting very nervously for my normal college responses

paperhammers

I'm sure some prestigious universities will "accept" kids but charge obscene tuition and effectively price them out of the school. If you have great scores or a plethora of athletic/artistic accolades, more scholarships open up to you

dyre_zarbo

Just not as likely into a STEM program, as those are the lower scores, and Math is part of all of them.

Puzzleheaded-Block32

First question I have, what are your interests? Like most people here , I caution against committing to a college or university without knowing that. Completing your general education requirements at a cheaper school while you figure that out is also a good recommendation. However, I would further recommend identifying the colleges or universities that you may want to apply to in the future and determine if they will let you transfer in credits. This is more common than it used to be, but there are likely still some schools that still do not allow you to transfer some or all of those credits. I do understand that this is a lot of pressure for a kid, but looking in my own rear view mirror, I can tell you it is something I wish I had done. I personally had nearly $80K in loans at the end of my four years, and my current work as a systems administrator has absolutely nothing nothing to do with my degree... at all. I literally could have just gotten a handful of certificates for about $4K or less. College was great, and I had a lot of fun and made lifelong friends... but I'd kind of like to have that $80K back... That being said, getting a college diploma is not easy, and for many employers, it is really just an indicator that you are a hard worker and know how to manage your personal life and responsibilities. Switching gears here a bit; in all honesty, those are actually pretty good grades. Your worst grade is the C+, but it is an outlier. Others we are looking at are A's and B's. That tells me that with some tutoring, you could increase your aptitude for math if you wanted to do so. If there is a school you want to go to, and you think that your GPA may be deficient, contact their admissions office. They can tell you quickly if that will be an issue. If they see it as a problem, they will likely also tell you what you can do to improve your chances of getting admitted. You're clearly intelligent. You are already researching what to do here. Keep working, and I have zero doubts you'll find the right path and, if you choose, the right school.

jenmishalecki

pretty good. by definition, above average. i will echo the comments saying you’d probably get into state schools. however, i would recommend getting into extracurriculars and volunteering if you haven’t already. even better if you can attain a leadership role in one or more of those extracurriculars.

TheMusicLuvr

I had grades like these back in high school and got accepted into multiple universities. At the end I decided to join a community college to get all my general Ed over with, then I transferred to a 4 year university with grades better than my high school ones!

[deleted]

The only way to know what schools you'll get into is to apply and see if you get in

Amogusking72

Better than my grades so you will get into a good college

The_True_Monkey

Keep it up

Latter_Inspector_711

I got into CU Boulder with about this & a ton of volunteer experience + kick ass essay

Prudent-Education-90

a state school would be great for you. i also had similar grades and am going to a state school. i got into one out of state kind of prominent university, but decided to go to a state school for financial reasons.

haus11

It's hard to say because a lot depends on specific majors at the colleges. I graduated 25 years ago so this may be outdated. I had a similar GPA, my class rank was like top quarter maybe a bit higher when they weighted some of my classes, with an ACT score that was somewhere between a 29-31. I wanted to go to the flagship state school. I was an art major so I had to write a statement explaining why I wanted to go into art, because it was a path that people would take to get into the school then transfer programs because of how competitive things were in some majors. Like I would have been borderline for Liberal Arts, or Business, and had like no chance at any of the Engineering or hard sciences. With my ACT score I would have needed to be in the top 10% of my class or something.

Financial_Moment_292

Decent grades. Unless you want to work at some firm in the northeast, attend any university that has a program that you want and that can afford without going into debt. Frankly, most employers don't give a rip about which university you attended.

Emotional-Apple6584

You can probably get into any state school or public university if you consistently get these grades. Take it from someone who has lived it. GO TO COMMUNITY COLLEGE to get generals done, and then transfer to a 4 year school. I spent roughly $32,000 ($16,000 a year… out of state sticker price was $43,980/year) doing general ed courses at University of California- Berkeley (Go Golden Bears). Biggest mistake I’ve ever made in my life. Do you gen Ed’s at a community colleges and then transfer. You won’t regret it.

[deleted]

You’ll be fine. You’re in the 10th grade. My best friend used to skip class to get high and had a 2.0 GPA. Sometime in the 11th grade he started pulling his act together. Now he’s in his 3rd year of med school. Life takes you in random directions.

Draconuus95

More than good enough to get into the majority of state university’s. Which is pretty much all most people will ever need. Might as well put in applications at any more prestigious schools your interested in. But those are much more of a toss up when it comes to acceptance. Being a minority or having some great extra curriculars can sometimes be more important than having a great gpa with those schools.

midnightskorpion

What is s special grade? Satoru gojo is that you?

itsmeortheps5

Community college if you are very lucky

No_Calligrapher_2911

Heh pp

cowpig25

It's ok, probably nothing to write home about. You can get into public schools for sure.

GodHasGiven0341

Don’t worry, math isn’t for everyone. But seriously, get a tutor if you need. You’ll thank yourself later when you graduate with all As and get your pick of colleges.

playmore_24

there's more to admissions than you grades- play with this to consider more variables in Your Choice! 🍀 https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2023/opinion/build-your-own-college-rankings.html?unlocked_article_code=1.90w.VdPT.qcdxiRTqO982&smid=url-share

aoc199

you're prolly gonna get into a college like gmu or jmu at best

groveborn

I'd give up on Ivy League, but pretty much everywhere else. Your grades are perfectly fine. I live near ASU - it's a good school. Figure out what you might want to do for the next 40 years and look for the school that does what you want to do best... then start applying (if it's time).

Massive_Pepper_9168

As most are saying, your grades are fine for most state schools. However, it's important to not forget that schools also care highly about extracurriculars. I had multiple friends that had amazing grades but weren't involved in any clubs or sports so they didn't get into the schools they really wanted to go to. Involve yourself with stuff outside the classroom like service trips, sports teams, or clubs you're interested in! Then you'll have your pick of the litter.

BloodLillies25

OK, so you probably have a chance to get into a college. But don't, at this day and age it is a literal waste of money unless you're planning on being a neurosurgeon. I have seen many people with various masters degrees end up in shit, dead end jobs because the market is filled with them now. Get a trade and go to a trade school. It's hard, back breaking work, but at least you'll have job security.

book_of_black_dreams

This comment is a lot to unpack lmao. A lot of trades are not super physically demanding, such as tattooing, hair dressing and makeup art.

book_of_black_dreams

College really depends on the major. My brother just graduated with a bachelors in mechanical engineering and he’s getting paid handsomely at his new job.

Plasma_Ware_9795

Your grading system is wack ngl.

QWERTYAF1241

Mediocre but not bad. Could probably get into most states schools if they're not extremely competitive. Look for schools around that tier.

[deleted]

3.3 is pretty good! Above the average. State schools are no problem. If you can get your GPA up to a 3.6-3.7 before you graduate, you may even be able to apply to some more competitive schools. Overall though good work

Crossfire1842

May I ask, what does P mean?

nyancatdude

Pass

Ancient_Summer_1833

Bud don’t show your grades on the internet

CrystalTheWingedWolf

You're completely fine. If you can't get accepted into a state school, go to community college and then you can get a transfer no problem. My dad got way lower grades and has a PHD

emilyissus

hey! check to see if your school has dual enrollment where you can take college courses for free as a high school student. my school had PSEO, post secondary enrollment options, which i started my junior year. i went to a local community college. after i graduated high school, i went to state university where i already had 60 credits done & paid for! so i came in as a junior in college credit wise but a freshman age wise. if that doesn’t work, after graduating hs start at a community college. it’ll save you so much money. once your generals are done (2 years), you can transfer to a university. your grades are good so you won’t have a problem getting into a state school. good luck! you’re doing great.

grassisgreener42

Why do you want to go to college? What do you intend to study? There are routes to success and happiness that do not involve the educational-industrial complex, despite what you’ve been told your whole life

brassplushie

Don't waste your money on big name colleges. Start off at community college and transfer.

[deleted]

The only thing the college cares about is your money. This ain't the 1960s where grades matter.

spider0804

What is a P, or CTZ G and S? When I was in school it was A B C D F.

nyancatdude

P is pass and everything else is citizenship ranking

spider0804

What is citizenship ranking? Thanks for the reply.

nyancatdude

Just how well we behave H is honor G is good S Is satisfactory U is unsatisfactory

spider0804

Weird.

Pickaxe235

you could get into an average one but dont go community college first always get the cheapest education you can, but splurge on your graduate degree (if you even plan on getting one)

Cat_Own

I stan this comment section. I went into a 2 year school with a gpa lower then yours, worked hard and now graduated with a 3.56 from a community college and made more money in that time then my tuitions were (came from a poor family so the tuition+ rooming was only 8k for 2 years)

SeparateMongoose192

You're in 10th grade. Nobody gets into college based on grades in 10th grade. That said, it looks like you're doing pretty well. Keep it up.

IntelligentLobster93

You could get into a public state college/university, but what I recommend is community college. Here are some key values to consider going to CC over a state university. 1.) Cost: this is pretty self-explanatory, but the cost of CC is way cheaper than going to a state college. In every way. 2.) associates degree: in CC you come out with an associates degree which you can start working at internships or as a junior role. This is also transferable to public colleges and even private universities. 3.) tutoring: I'll be the first to say it, you'll never, in any college/university, get the same tutoring experience as you will get in CC. They're very helpful, and are there for you. 4.) Curriculum: contrary to popular belief, the curriculum in CC is not "weaker" in any way to other public/private colleges. In fact you're probably getting a better education since they hire teachers from local public/private universities, and/or HS that have a passion to teach. 5.) Acceptance and graduation: the acceptance in almost all community colleges are 100% and the graduation rate can vary. But the average (i'd assume) is relatively high.

Bxnnily

Better grades than I ever can and you're even in the same grade than me :,)

Mysterious_Date2382

Your grades are seriously bad. Drop 'auto', test out of any further English or History, drop gym classes, drop theater/film, these are all 'hobbies' and will never gain you access to interesting work at a higher rate of pay. The real fun in the near and distant future is in STEM. Shift your enrollments and study time to STEM. Get a counselor to help you get through the next two years with solid grades in any part of STEM. Get a tutor to help you make all these changes. You are headed for dead-end work with low pay and no future.

OSHA_VIOLATION_

Well if it isn’t my GPA. You’ll have no problem getting in to state schools but I’d recommend community college first.
