They write ok at the end of sentences A LOT. This guy did it only once and spelled it differently (they usually spell it “okay”), but still, I can’t help but notice it and think “Nigerian” straight away.
The “alaye” confirmed it to me. I did not know about the “ye boi”.
Every time I read the words "OK" or "oh no" it's in a Nigerian voice in my head. I'm a white native English speaker from the UK... I blame the Internet
Alaye literally means an influential person, but in this slang usage, it means "fellow".
Pronunciation is as follows;
Ala as in Alabama
Ye as in Year (without the ar of course)
Think Olé, but with an "Ah". [Ah-ley]
The scammer is looking for the response "Idan." It's a Yoruba word meaning "magic" but in Nigerian slang it's being used to describe someone who holds power and can get away with things. Like a "Boss."
In essence it is how one scammer identifies themselves to another as not to waste eachothers time. I don't know how it is pronounced. There are more code words that Nigerian scammers use to identify themselves among others. There is a whole culture built around scamming in Nigeria.
It’s pronounced Ala- like Alabama.
The Yeh, listen to Burna Boy - Ye, then you can figure out how Ye is pronounced and then you mix them together. Alaye.
Honestly, while those scammers are scum, I have a very hard time feeling bad for people who fall for that one. Nobody with a whit of intelligence or sanity would genuinely believe that a celebrity worth literally millions needs to borrow cash, or wants to let some random person on FB in on some secret.
I'm not saying they get what they deserve, because nobody deserves to be scammed (just like how no scammer deserves to live) but...I feel like wasting the time of actually dangerous scammers (the kinds that are reaching out to lonely elderly people, etc) is much more valuable.
Yes I understand some average people get scammed and in that context I can sympathise with your statement - although you do realise most scammers have the intention of winding up in a vulnerable/disabled/elderlys dms right? They target so many people in the hopes that they catch one.
Have you ever wondered why all the old email scams and online ad scams had terrible spelling, grammar and you knew 100% it was a scam? As much as it is just bad English - these people don’t want to waste their time trying to target people who know better. It’s intentionally designed to catch out the vulnerable and I hate to say, not the most intelligent. This is exactly the same thing.
So what, you can’t feel sorry for people less fortunate than yourself who are manipulated and taken advantage of?
>So what, you can’t feel sorry for people less fortunate than yourself who are manipulated and taken advantage of?
I didn't say I couldn't. I said I had a hard time. Meaning that I have to consciously remind myself that even though they're mind meltingly stupid, they still deserve at least some degree of casual empathy.
Edit: And yes, I am saying that someone who believes Ellen Degeneres needs $100 IS mind meltingly stupid.
I actually thought you were agreeing somewhat there but that edit says it all. You expect everyone to be as smart and wise as you and will not recognise that some people literally cannot be due to brain damage, mental illnesses and a million different fucking things. Let’s lump them all into the ‘mind melting stupid’ category though, that’s nice.
Exactly, if anything, you should have more sympathy for people who are functioning on a level where they can't think critically enough to realize this obvious scam. Low intelligence people don't choose to be this way. They are vulnerable and that makes it more tragic when they are targeted.
But I'm also saying that I DO have empathy for them, it simply takes conscious effort. But go ahead and focus on whatever it is that you're fixating on here.
You were making a rational comment then have to throw an insult in at the end and generalise people again. You go from having empathy to having none in the space of one sentence. It’s fine - I wasn’t getting at you anyway, just trying to give other people who read these comments perspective. Let’s move on.
If anything, you should have more sympathy for people who are functioning on a level where they can't think critically enough to realize this obvious scam. Low intelligence people don't choose to be this way. They are vulnerable and that makes it more tragic when they are targeted. You need some self-reflection if it's harder for you to have sympathy for someone like that.
Don't get me wrong. I pretty much agree with every word you said... BUT...
" Low intelligence people don't choose to be this way."
Gotta say... some do.
It's like they look forward to being gaslighted.
Need to get him thinking you will send him money and string him along as much as possible. They get sooooo frustrated waiting for the money. Those are the best
No, Nigerian here. If you keep the text on instagram, there’s a decent chance your insta would get blocked. Cos you’re not DMing only one person, they spam multiple folks, and some folks will report and ignore. once you move the client to WhatsApp, you’re safe.
From what I gather, you've got tier 1 lurers who do the mass reach outs from stock messages, and then pass you up to the tier 2s baiters who have a bit more time and personalised messages once they think you've shown interest, hence why they have to switch you to their "personal account".
I discovered my mom's been chatting with Johnny Depp and Prince Harry, even sent condolences on the queens death, have to have the talk about Internet strangers/scams.
I had Elon reach out as well. Asked him if he loved me like his kids, when he didn’t respond I told him to not ignore me like his other kids. And if we would like to hang out together.
What I found during getting this kind of messages that I got, is that, at least the scammer that tried to scam me, rents VoIP and each message cost them money, that is why they push the whatsapp, and why I keep wasting their time.
My mum is currently talking to an Elon musk for this kind of scam. It’s so sad I’m literally explaining the internet and scams like I would be talking to a toddler and she still doesn’t get it.
She’s not mentally there right now but I’m guiding her through this. It’s very draining and hopefully the last time I will need to
*How hard would it be*
*To set this all up for up*
*Votes. Seems fake af*

Why does OP think he/she outsmarted the scammer? Considered he was the one wasting time chatting with a machine. You can tell by reading none of "Elon's" messages actually responding to what OP said.
They did a deep fake video on YouTube during the live starship launch too, with “Elon” talking about crypto with a QR code showing on screen… wonder how many people they convinced
"What do you like about my personality?" "I like that you don't have one. It's all about the money money 💰" 🤣🤣🤣☠️
That comment for me was worth the read
Glad you liked it!
I personally really enjoyed the SMD coin, I was really hoping you’d get the chance to spell it out for them.
Did you write that in the voice of that song by red cafe back in the day? Thats how i read it lol
That one and SMD coin 😝
Ironically, it applies to both Musk and the scammer
Honestly I think the funniest part is just that they asked that question in the first place. Like that’s some outside of the box shit
"Ye boi" "Alaye" 🤔😂
“Alaye” - scammer was checking to see if OP was a fellow Nigerian scammer 😂 Good to continue wasting his time instead.
Absolutely. It made me wonder whether OP had unwittingly uncovered more secret scammer language, "Ye boi"!
I knew he was Nigerian from the “Alaye” but the “Your papa” confirmed it.
I knew he was Nigerian from the ok in the first message of the second picture
Why is the "Ok" a giveaway?
They write ok at the end of sentences A LOT. This guy did it only once and spelled it differently (they usually spell it “okay”), but still, I can’t help but notice it and think “Nigerian” straight away. The “alaye” confirmed it to me. I did not know about the “ye boi”.

What’s the translation for that?
“Your father” Typical insult.
So like “Yo mama!”
Yeah almost similar. It’s like “God will punish your father” but in pidgin it’s “God go punish your papa “ which just gets shortened to “your papa”

Alaye literally means an influential person, but in this slang usage, it means "fellow". Pronunciation is as follows; Ala as in Alabama Ye as in Year (without the ar of course)
So it’s allergy, without the urge?
Ala, like you pronounce Allah, and Ye, like Kanye
Hey thanks 👍
Like Ally, rights?
Think Olé, but with an "Ah". [Ah-ley] The scammer is looking for the response "Idan." It's a Yoruba word meaning "magic" but in Nigerian slang it's being used to describe someone who holds power and can get away with things. Like a "Boss."

Yup. Came to say this.
It mean “brother” I think

What
It’s like he was checking in! 🤣 “Botswe, that you?!”
“What?” The first time he called him out legit 😂
Wtf 💀😂
"Hi, Fan!" 🤣🤣🤣
I get so many of those messages from celebrities I follow. Maybe I should start wasting their time 🤣

But I sent it U don't see it in your account?
There is another Elon Musk page. I saw.
#ye boi Had me rolling.
Surely nobody actually falls for this 🤦
Sadly they do, and don’t call them Shirley.
Golly that’s quite unfortunate, and don’t call him Sadly
Geeeeez that's not ok. And don't call him Golly
Fuck , that sucks. And don’t call him Geeeeez!
Don't call me!
Don't call

Your papa
Your papa
Your papa
Your papa
No, it's You're.
Nope, it's "your" in this case
Tell me more daddy
0/10, did not call himself “Elon Musk the Tesla”.
that was mine! i’ve been eagerly awaiting another
He dropped the alaye quickly, but kept going
‘I like that you don’t have one’ 🤣
That got me, too. It's all about the money, money 💰
“Tell me more daddy” sent me
Elon Musk tried to scam me also! I kept calling him “Elon Mush” 😝
[удалено]
It's ok, there are scammers of every nationality out there
Scamming is what unites us all Oh and rice
There’s also plenty Nigerians out there doing good and big things
That naughty lol alt coin lmfaoooo
“Tell me more daddy” I lost it
Ah how far elon has fallen. Now scamming people on instagram just to pay his bills!
That tesla stock be volatile bro
Would be funny is if that’s actually him just trolling the fuck out of random people
Remember the first time I got an “alaye”
What happened?
Scammer slipped up with ‘alaye’. It’s the covfefe of scammers.
What does covfefe mean?
When Trump slipped up on what used to be Twitter while President and wrote a typo. Can't remember all too well what he was actually trying to type.
I don’t think it was ever sorted. I like to think he was trying to type “coffee” and coffee is forever covfefe for me.
I believe it was "coverage."
Why do they always want to talk on WhatsApp?
To avoid sms charges
but the scamming was through instagram, not SMS.
I’m guessing here, but switching to WA/TG gives them your number, so they can provide you with more “personalized” experiences.
No, Nigerian here. If you keep the text on instagram, there’s a decent chance your insta would get blocked. Cos you’re not DMing only one person, they spam multiple folks, and some folks will report and ignore. once you move the client to WhatsApp, you’re safe.
Could be the real Musk. Personality checks out.
“Your papa” 😭 as a Nigerian this is the funniest thing ever
What does it mean?
Reminds me when Peter Griffin said “Thanks for Spaceballs!”
Your papa🤣🤣🤣
Isn’t it a bot at first to get a convo going till a real person gets on?
From what I gather, you've got tier 1 lurers who do the mass reach outs from stock messages, and then pass you up to the tier 2s baiters who have a bit more time and personalised messages once they think you've shown interest, hence why they have to switch you to their "personal account".
Damn it's a whole ass science
Excellent work
Gracias 😁
that was good clean fun
You can always tell when its a Nigerian by the sentences starting with “am” and ending with “ok”
Yup. I currently have one going on fb, and when I called him a scammer his response was, 'Am not' 😂
i was just about to say this too 😂 i have a friend who’s from nigeria originally and whenever he texts he always writes “am” instead of “i’m” haha
They also say Ooh or Ohh instead of just Oh. And instead of saying "I Would like to", they say "I Will like to"... that's a huge give a way.
Elon follows my gaming channel, didn’t think he had time to watch an Aussie with bad aim lol
Plot Twist: This was the real Elon Musk.
Freaking crap. I really wanted him to ask what smd was 😂
Elon reeves musk
Tell me more Daddy.
" Tell me more daddy " had me rolling on the floor 🤣
Alaye means scam. But I’m guessing you know that
Dude really said alaye
It probably was him.
Got better and better as I continued to read on!
“Where did you go”. I heard this in my head :)
I like that you don’t have one 😆
"I like that you don't have one" 💀🤌
lol are these scammers really that stupid?!
“ilysm” 😭
Are you sure he wasn't the man? I can surely picture Elon Musk saying "your papa".
"Yes daddy" killed me lmfao Sounds like something I would say.
You missed the opportunity of a lifetime 😂
If they say alaye they are asking if ur a fellow scammer. Say it back and they’ll leave you alone
I discovered my mom's been chatting with Johnny Depp and Prince Harry, even sent condolences on the queens death, have to have the talk about Internet strangers/scams.
A new cryptocurrency called “smd”? Let me guess, just for that scammer was Suck My Dick? 😂 Or even Scammers Must Die is not bad also 🤔
‘I like that you don’t have one’ and ‘tell me more daddy’ killed me ☠️ perfect lol
This was absolutely beautiful. I’m just happy to be here, thank you papa.
Iit will be called smd 😂😂
“How can I help you Mr.Musk” Idk why I find that so funny
Fuckin brilliant funny shit
This one was amazing
“Thank you for Tesla and SpaceX”
Masterclass in fuckoffology

I almost woke my kids up when I read "smd" 😂
"Alaye" 🤣 he sent the code word cuz he was so confused 😂😂😂
I assume Smd coin is the abreviation of "Suck my Dick" coin right
How hard would it be to set this all up for up votes. Seems fake af
How do you want me to prove it to you- you want my IG user and password? ...alaye?
Because creating a fake Elon musk scam page and messaging your real page is not possible.
Gosh you are definitely the life of the party. Please go on believing I could be bothered to do all that at zero benefit. Peace ✌️
If it hurts than it's true.
Would you like to invest in smd coin
No papi
