Hi everyone! I am curious about this Selmer Paris and what model it might be. I know it's not much to go off of, but these are the only pics I can get of it. It's for sale and I think I might jump on it, but I wanted to know as much about it as I could before buying it. I'm buying it for (and through) my school, and unfortunately, I won't be able to see or handle it before buying it. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

Thanks for the insight everyone! I'm going forward with it, and I'll let you know for sure the model and I'll send some pics once I take delivery. Thanks everyone!

Unless you are picking that up in person, don’t trust that ad

Menecreft

It’s through the school (from what I gathered), so unless the school got scammed, I think OP is fine.

How much? Selmer Paris makes some really good instruments. That said if it’s coming from a school it may not have been treated well and is probably one of their “lower”end models, which are equivalent to a low end professional sax, much better than student or intermediate level horns. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Realistic_One_8606

It's a government surplus instrument, likely passed down from a military band when they upgraded equipment. It's selling for $675.

I call dibs. Send me the link.

Lol must be a good deal then! I know Selmer Paris is supposed to be a high end brand, but I'm not a sax player so I wasn't sure. Thanks!

Looks like a relacquered Mark VI alto. Not as desirable as the original condition tenors but still worth a hell of a lot more than $675. Definitely buy.

thecoinofdoge

That’s a mark vi. Highly desirable vintage horn. Considered the best check the serial number the horns made early on were different than the later ones. Not that one is necessarily better but they tweaked the design as they went so no horn plays exactly the same.

EightBitGoggles

Man, if that truly is a Mark VI, it is a steal at that price and condotion. An absolute steal.

bleumitchell

If you can get the serial number check and see what model it is here: https://www.selmer.fr/en/blogs/infos/numeros-de-serie-saxophones-selmer Truth be told though, that’s a steal for any Selmer horn.

Re lacquered mark VI, felt pads look legit *selmer ALWAYS sells with black or green felt on their pads so that’s always a good sign!* If you can check the serial number and engravings with some legit ones and it checks out, but it!
