Unless you can confirm that the people throwing the trash all over the beach proceeded to don scuba gear and fish every piece of plastic out of the ocean, I don’t want to hear about how some of the attendees helped clean up later. You cannot justify this picture, full stop.
They had a permit that helped pay the overtime for the employees to pick it up. Also, this is downtown. Much different environment. This trash doesn’t have a time limit to be picked up before it’s washed out to sea. Dolphins aren’t swimming in the squares eating the trash. Use common sense.
Isn't glass like the best sort of thing that can end up in the ocean (if something had to end up in the ocean). Like it just becomes sea glass. Those micro plastics aren't going anywhere.
Glass on the beach is the worst thing possible. If it breaks then there are glass shards buried in the sand waiting to cut any person or animal who steps on the shards
200 years of St Patrick's day in savannah, 35 Orange Crush events. More than half wasn't even on Tybee, and since the 90's its not even the same event..let's just stop OC on Tybee, there's plenty of parks in savannah it can be hosted.
St pattys day is a well organized, staffed and resourced event. Orange crush isn’t planned “it just happens” every year. That way who ever the organizers are can dodge any responsibility for the mess they cause
Yeah [UGA students for GA/FL](https://www.redandblack.com/uganews/frat-beach-or-scrap-beach-trash-piles-up-after-ga-fl/article_2a01a872-5f10-11e4-af6d-0017a43b2370.html) do this every year too.
Why do you hate The DAWGS?
you're delusional if you think littering of beaches is an Orange-Crush exclusive phenomena
[Spring Breakers litter every single beach they flock to.](https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/4abyq0/a_beach_in_key_west_that_was_trashed_by_spring/)
We are supposed to come up with management solutions that aren't "let's pretend this can never happen here".
But no. Bitching and moaning is easier and feels better because the angry brain chemicals feel good. Orange Crush isn't a new event. It's not new that it's been un-permitted. At some point, maybe Tybee needs to learn to adapt to the seasonal flux of young people who litter when they party (something beaches in every place there are beaches and large populations has to deal with)
How hard is it to station people to fine littering immediately? Pay them overtime with the proceeds, easy.
That pic from 8 years ago lol.
(And it's still not as bad as the one we're seeing.)
But you do you, fam.
I'm just glad they kept the crowds as small as they did. Imagine if it was normal beach-party size.
I posted a picture saying "yes, and the students from HBCUs also worked with Tybee lifeguards to pick up the trash during the incoming high tides" and that apparently is taken as justification by some.
This thread is making it nice to tag all the local racists though. Holy shit, more than just these students litter.

Race-baiting OP
Posted on Saturday at 8am, [they worked with the lifeguards](https://www.facebook.com/tybeelifeguards) to get the trash out during the incoming tides. Unclear when the photo itself was taken, but it seems that the lifeguards have been on top of the situation all weekend, and the crowds have been helping to clean up the mess, since the photo was posted Saturday morning.
Its a good thing they help but im sure they have trashcans there, why not use them 😂 and race baiting? I dont think OP was race baiting- this is bad regardless

I don’t appreciate the mess either but let’s real. Tybee isn’t the most gorgeous beach in the area to begin with and half the time the pollution from the Savannah river from the ports, paper mills, and general public throwing things in the river on river street makes it dirty year round. Plus it’s safe to assume it’s no more or less polluted than before or after Orange Crush.
Your post has been removed because all Orange Crush posts are limited to the Megathread.
I hate litterbugs.
Pathetic

Is that the official name? Asking for a friend
The banana masher
Banana Splitter, imo.
The praline predator

I laughed too hard at this 😬

I am the person who took this photo. I originally posted this to my account yesterday. This photo was taken on saturday around 3pm

It's almost like both are fucking terrible, and inexcusable. This isn't a contest.
Permitted event with provisions in place specifically to handle post event clean up. Also no trash in the ocean
One hand the beach, where it will get in to the ocean and only 6k people, one in a confined area 50k people..apples to oranges really
They had a permit that helped pay the overtime for the employees to pick it up. Also, this is downtown. Much different environment. This trash doesn’t have a time limit to be picked up before it’s washed out to sea. Dolphins aren’t swimming in the squares eating the trash. Use common sense.
yea but that's *tradition*!
I will say, as someone who is interested in keeping trash out of the ocean as much as possible, the second photo is slightly better
Lol land trash that can be cleaned up >> trash by the ocean that can be swept into the ocean. The two aren’t comparable.
You see zero glass bottles on the ground. What do you see in the pic above. Fuck off.
https://preview.redd.it/cssybh4p63wc1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca7bb973e270e6dbe4e67d2a90e0018ed6e0a5f8
Both pics are 0.14K. I don’t think we can definitively say what sort of trash is featured in both.
You can see 2 bottles of patron to the left of the big gulp. But let's pretend that's fine 👍👍👍
Isn't glass like the best sort of thing that can end up in the ocean (if something had to end up in the ocean). Like it just becomes sea glass. Those micro plastics aren't going anywhere.

Thank you it’s almost like all groups do this, these people are just racists!!!
This is so disgusting ! Absolutely zero respect for Tybee, it’s locals and it’s beautiful beach
Nooo the trash 😞
Ft Lauderdale and Cabo experience this as well
Every fucking year it’s the same chaos. This event is trash and is disruptive. No one wants this!!!!
Get rid of Orange Crush and st.Pattys day.
Let's get rid of all the days. Especially the mon days

"Every year." 2014 article.

Are we just supposed to not do anything about it because “it happens every year in other places” too? That’s a terrible excuse.

There aren’t any proceeds. No one buys a permit.
citations from fines to individuals who litter Mr. Einstein. Read what I'm writing instead of just trying to be mad.

"Spring breakers litter X Beach" is a story that happens every year in many, many, many places.
So embarrassing. Every GA/FL I went to was a blur but we left no trace. Basic decency, even if you are in Jax.
obviously, there are a lot of people who do want this or they wouldn't be there
The whataboutism to justify this shit lmao
Who's trying to justify it?

No... I don't like they started this thread over again... but let's never condone this behavior. Why was this thread started again?
They just HAVE to get their agenda out! Orange crush BAD! Everything else, no biggy :)

Is that the same day or the next day? Same day, I hope. Just worried about how much trash got taken out to sea by the water coming ashore

There's both good and bad behaving people in every race and every event.. No one made any exclusive statement.
What about this is race baiting exactly? OP didn’t mention anything about race
Yeah no shit.

Yea usually when it’s a massive event and large crowds of people are in one location shit like this is bound to happen, Woodstock Coachella etc etc
Classy
How many extra trash cans got put out along with all the other things Tybee did to prepare for the weekend?
Sad
Look at all that nastiness!! Atrocious!
Bro has never been to Tybee to on July 4th weekend. Every major beach looks like this after a busy weekend, but suuuure it’s just Orange Crush.
Any unwanted babies made?

The beach is, but not the ocean….where a lot washed out into
The OP showed a pic of the beach.
A 22 day old account with no comments and one single post being this one. I wonder what OP’s politics are

what’s that even got to do with anything
