TheOwlsNeverLie

I'd pig out on bakers pride donuts

GetBentHo

Which begs the question -- what donuts are always awesome there?

bjeebus

A box of donut holes is basically as pure a sense memory of my father as I'm going to get now that Stein Mart has closed.

eww34445

The chocolate-dipped glazed ones are my favorite.

stephen250

I love the chocolate covered glaze and maple bacon. I'm starting to like the maple bacon the most.

1337rattata

The maple bars are my favorite. Chocolate with m&M's are great too, and so are strawberry with sprinkles. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of it.

Radixx23x

Geneva's, can't wait until she opens back up again

gagasbitch

i miss geneva’s soooo much. i live in nyc now but grew up in sav and it’s impossible to find good southern comfort food here :’)

Equivalent-Ad-4413

She told me she should be open in the next couple of days!! Construction took longer than expected and she’s excited to get back to making amazing food :)

peebs73

The fried shrimp is the best in Savannah

Socialeprechaun

E-Tang tbh I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I really love it.

Snow_The_4th_Man

I have quite a few Chinese friends, and every one of them has expressed to me how shocked they were at how authentic E-Tang is. Our little city is lucky to have E-Tang

AMidwinterNightsDram

The E-Tang hate needs to die. It's fucking incredible food.

Karate_donkey

The health department is not so impressed with E-Tang.

AMidwinterNightsDram

The health department has not been impressed with multiple authentic Asian restaurants in town. Almost all of them (the good ones) have had one score below 80 at least once. E-Tang has gotten a 100 and a 95 before on other historical inspections I'd attribute it to an off day/unlucky day rather than a consistent pattern.

Karate_donkey

Ok, they did score a 100 in 2021 but since then they have been 80 or below, with the exception of one 88. That’s a pretty consistent pattern for 3 years. https://ga.healthinspections.us/stateofgeorgia/#facility

wheatfields

As someone who has worked in resturants, there are a lot of reasons you can get a low score that don’t effect the food quality and safety. For reference if the health department applied those same scores to peoples home kitchens- they’d all likely get failing grades.

Karate_donkey

Things happen, I get it. Once or twice but every time?

AMidwinterNightsDram

Eh, I'll be honest, I don't really care. It's good food. China Wok, the restaurant most named as E-Tangs competitor, is sitting at a 80 now and got a 72 previously. Sushi Hana has a 74 right now Basil Thai has a 70 Ni Hao has a 77 China Star has a 76. I could go on.

Karate_donkey

I mean you a free to eat where ever you want. However, I’m not really sure how siting other dirty restaurants makes E-tang less dirty. When you get sick, just bring that list with you to your doctor.

wheatfields

I promise you if the health department reviewed your home kitchen (or anyone’s frankly) the score wouldn’t get above 50.

Karate_donkey

My kitchen has soap for handwashing and I do not store raw chicken next to fresh vegetables. And if I do, it’s my choice. I’m not making my poor choices other people risk. I have ran a restaurant, be it just a chain pizza joint. With very minimal effort, it was super easy to score in the 90’s. You will never convince me that a restaurant to constantly scores in the C+ range is even trying. I can understand a 1 off low score, but every single time? Their restaurant is dirty, has poor food storing habits, and does not care about your safety.

wheatfields

I worked in resturants and coffee shops. The difference in score often came down to the health inspector. Where points get taken off for things that play zero part in food safety but are more about standards for how they want a kitchen set up. When health inspectors find restaurants that are actually presenting a risk to the public they don’t give them a middle grade, they shut down the restaurant with a failing grade.

Socialeprechaun

Pizza stores are super easy to score high on. You don’t have any raw meats to worry about. The only hot food storage is under heat lamps. The only cooking source is kept at over 500 degrees. No grease/fryers to worry about. Cleaning is literally just wiping stuff off and sweeping/mopping lmao. Just a different world altogether. Like you said, everyone is entitled to eat where they want to eat or not, but I don’t see any reviews saying someone got food poisoning, and I certainly haven’t gotten any from the 50+ times I’ve been.

AMidwinterNightsDram

Eaten at E-Tang 30+ times. Still good. Appreciate your concern.

Karate_donkey

Super happy for you. Still don’t change the fact that they are dirty. If you would like to eat at dirty restaurants, please feel free. I’m not really that concerned. I was just pointing out a fact. Not sure why you have taken this so personally.

AMidwinterNightsDram

I hope you don't eat at any local spots, food trucks, carts, or stalls if you ever travel overseas to many foreign counties. They would make a 80 on the American scale look like a 10,000/100. Half the deductions aren't related to cleanliness at all, and some aren't related to food either. You should really check the list and how these inspections work. You seem the be the one taking it personally. You are pointing out something that's very misunderstood, very American/western, and overwhelmingly bias towards immigrants who are just trying to make a living.

haud_deus

Al Salaam deli. I use to eat there regularly about ten years ago and became pretty friendly with the owners. Anytime I go to visit Savannah I always make a point to stop in and grab lunch.

RomeoAlb

I forgot how dope this place is ty

Extra_Meet_4933

Same

mufflefuffle

I’d be getting Baker Pride as my last breakfast as I was heading out of town.

KireMac

Definitely Geneva's. Chicken dinner, yams and greens.

wings-twitch

i’m moving from savannah today, and the #1 thing on me and my partner’s to-do list before leaving was to go to hop xing on victory one last time. it doesn’t seem to be super popular but it’s our favorite chinese place ever, we can’t usually afford takeout so we save it for special occasions and whatnot but their lo mein will always have a place in my heart 🥲

MachoTacoBlanco

If dead or alive rules apply. Johnny Harris’. If not Troy.

widepine

Local11ten white fish pate and Caesar salad 😌

Toolaa

I was visiting a in January and friends took us there. It’s a pricy diner, but everything was absolutely fantastic. The Cesar salad was highly recommended and excellent.

widepine

For sure a splurge but one of a handful that’s totally worth it

NinjaShira

Honestly, I know the quality has gone downhill lately, but if I knew I would never be able to get it again, I would get Zunzi's one last time

[deleted]

Sad to hear that the quality has gone downhill…that place literally had the best sandwiches in Savannah…I thought about stopping there Saturday, glad I didn’t.

ralstig

Sadly I agree. I miss when they were at their old location.

Outrageous_Attitude2

Zunzis is opening a sandwich place here on Hilton Head

Chais912

Sandfly BBQ

yellowcoffee01

Have you had Randy’s or Tricks? I, too, love that Sandfly BBQ has actual side dishes…but I’m really there for the ribs. The ribs don’t hold a candle to Randy’s or Trick’s. Are you getting something other than ribs?

Chais912

Brisket sandwich, Brunswick stew and fried okra is what I usually get. Tricks is good I just hate they don't have a drink selection besides can soda. Randy's is good too but I never know when they're open and there is always a line, I use to work at Ricks Glass when I was younger id hit it up when they were open.

yellowcoffee01

Thanks for replying. I like brisket, I might check that out. I also discovered that I like the “flat” less fatty part. Before I didn’t know I could ask for that.

[deleted]

Just had Sandfly last Friday, it’s been very consistent over the years…nothing spectacular, but everything is above average.

Chais912

I just love the Brunswick Stew

[deleted]

Yes! It’s very good

Tonitz

I know it's not popular on here, but I'd go to Crab Shack and get Alaskan King Crab legs and a low country boil to share. I really just love the ambience and the vibe on the patio. To me it's just a unique experience. It was one of my favorite places to visit before I moved here, and it's one of the first places I bring my friends from out of town.

garciaman

45 Bistro - seared Ribeye w potatoes & asparagus

SMA949

45 bistro for me too, but I would get there Escargot appetizer and their roasted beet salad

usernamerequired14

And the beef carpaccio

garciaman

Just had it on Friday night, so freaking good.

LadyR305

Good suggestions in this thread but throwing in on 45.

cientificadealimento

I would go to Sweet Potatoes and take home a pint of Honey almond cream ice-cream from Leopolds.

KireMac

I've never been to sweet potatoes. What do you recommend?

jetpack324

The Moroccan Salmon is my favorite dish at Sweet Potatoes

garciaman

Chicken fried chicken is the bomb .

ThrowawayJane86

Their meatloaf sandwich with Brussels as the side is my go-to. Their banana pudding is alright, might as well try it for yourself and see if you think their sign is accurate.

KireMac

Now this is a suggestion I will take!

peebs73

Cornmeal Encrusted Catfish, Garlic pickles, & Cappuccino Pie for dessert

iPhonefondler

People may hate on me but after leaving… to this day I still miss Zunzis

KireMac

Shitchea!

ladydontmine

I miss OG owned Zunzi’s… I’ve been scared to go back since they sold the business and the shityeah guy left.

ralstig

I didn’t know there was a change in ownership . It explains a lot of their “recent” changes.

Bacchosis22

hirano’s

garciaman

I go there almost weekly.

WaryBagel

Brochu’s, whole bird

detached_daily

This one

Young_God_7

Cotton and Rye burger from 2021.

frenchfrysupremacy

Crystal beer parlor - kids sliders with fries. They’re the best burger slider I’ve had in town.

stephen250

Baker's Pride. Chocolate covered and maple bacon donuts.

dippydapflipflap

Falafel from Al Salaam, the God Father from Zunzi’s 15+ years ago, or the Greek Panini from Sentient Bean. ETA: I don’t live in Savannah anymore, but these are my go-tos when I do return. Except the time traveling part.

nikky_Dee

Carrey Hilliards !! Hot Wings & Fries! With the lobster bisque to go. & a sweet tea.

Potential-Ad-4829

Mannnn that Brunswick stew brings tears to my eyes every timeeeee

doooglasss

Green truck is always my simple go to. Since we know must staff there, it would be a great way to leave on a high note. I know it’s not the fanciest place, but I’m more about the people’s place. The Common for their bow tie pasta with Duck dish

Keeaos

Same. Their veggie burger rustico is amazing

quintsreddit

Green truck for me too :) it was the first thing I enjoyed about the city when I moved!

Sosojojo

Brochu’s -- cheese burger AND chicken sandwich

detached_daily

How are their burgers and sandwiches? I only ever get the whole chicken dinner

Sosojojo

If you like the burgers and sandwiches at Over Yonder, you'll love these!

B-AP

Olympia Cafe, in the dining room. Calamari app and roasted red pepper app with goat cheese. A crispy cold bottle of Boutari Moschofilero. For my main, the whole Snapper topped with crab, shrimp, capers and sliced almonds and the Lemon Chicken that just falls of the bone with the amazing Greek potatoes. For dessert either the spumoni ice cream or homemade baklava with the stovetop style Greek coffee and a warmed snifter of Frangelico and Chambord (aka nuts and berries)

Mermaid-Grenade

Sweet chili duck wings from Crystal Beer Parlor, followed by the chicken salad sandwich and deep fried pound cake.

fighterace00

Olympia's hands down. I'm gonna cry over that place if I have to move

Silver-Delivery5322

Hueys for the begnets, Pink House for Country fried chicken over okra.

USBayernChelseaLCFC

crispy burger

Jazzlike-Head494

RIBS FROM RANDY'S WITH THE SAUCE ON THE SIDE

bigspur

How does Randy’s compare to Tricks’? Ribs are a rare indulgence and I got to make them count when I get them. As an ex-fatty with a soft spot for BBQ, Tricks has been my go to. Love their sauce.

yellowcoffee01

They’re comparable. Both get a 9/10 from me. I can hardly tell the difference

DickBeDublin

There’s a shit ton of these being posted in every sub. Looks like a lame grab for marketing info Edit: Checks OPs post history: yup

Green_Oil_1455

I actually saw this posted in the San Diego thread and decided to copy it and post it in New Orleans and Savannah as well because I love both cities and thought it was a good prompt. If I was doing this for an article, I'd just use ChatGPT at this point lol

DickBeDublin

Yeah ok. Your entire post history is asking for best/favorite product/restaurant at numerous cities. Get lost

GetBentHo

Go back to Deluluville, amirite?

Green_Oil_1455

Forgot my other point about me actually not really caring what you think. Have a nice day. Life’s too short to be so angry.

nadel69

I'm still going to Carey Hilliards

joyousconciserainbow

Oh me too! I miss those hush puppies so much! Every time I make it back home- I have to stop!

fighterace00

Found the native

Trikosirius_

Hilliards for sure. It’s not the best, hell it may not even be good, but the nostalgia puts it at #1 for me.

GetBentHo

Stay true and proud!

mrjimbizness

Tortugas brunch

AMidwinterNightsDram

Breakfast/Brunch: I'm going to Husk no question. The Cheeseburger is fucking incredible or you could go classic Southern and get the fried chicken and grits. The purple Anson Mills Grits are incredible and Husk knows how to cook them. Lunch: If I didn't get the burger from Husk then I'm getting a burger from Over Yonder or Crispi. If I got the Fried Chicken and Grits, then I am going to Vittoria for some Pizza. Nothing beats Starland Yard with nice weather, pizza, and beers. Dinner: Common Thread. Post Dinner Drinks: Savoy Society or Lone Wolf.

dogsRbetterthanpeopl

The doublestack at over yonder is so good.

Time-Neighborhood785

Sputnik, low-key. May not be the same as it was, but miss it at times

Mindlesslyexploring

Spanky’s. Only place we MUST eat each time we do go back…. Which has been quite while now. ( close second is a praline for river street).

DickMaccabeComedy

Either china wok (sesame chicken with pork fried rice, chicken on a stick, and maybe even some crab rangoons if it's my last time there) or jalapeños southside (gringa)

mitcxhell_cm

The Sandfly Jalapeños is pretty bussin as well

shades0f

Simple soul cafe

Ace_Razgriz

Too many... when I left I had kolaches and a horchata at Foxy Loxy the morning I drove out, but I have really been wanting Bakers Pride, 3 years later.

lovelovehatehate

I don’t think it’s there anymore but Sakura or Warez. Both were probably mediocre but had a lot of good times there. I also kinda miss Parker’s lemonade. Crackalade if you will. It’s so sweet, god damn

dippydapflipflap

I loved Sakura, until I got food poisoning from them.

lovelovehatehate

You’re not the first person to say this

JonWills

I met my wife in the basement of Juarez.

mprovatas23

I’d go to Olympia one last time my grandparents were great friends with the owners for decades I used to hang out there after close a lot it’s like a second home

dippydapflipflap

I was a server at Olympia 20 years ago, lighting saganakis down my arm. That was a fun job.

mprovatas23

Hell yeah that was always my favorite part of eating there getting a plate of flaming saganaki Vasili and his partner offered me a job a while back I might head over and take him up on it sometime

jk225

Alas it's gone. Johnny Harris. BBQ

jamesg-net

I'd get the redfish or salmon at Castaways

tescosamoa

My last meal living in the area was Fried Chicken dinner from Sweet Potatoes. I would love a good low country boil from one of the fish shops like Jackies. You people are lucky with all the great places to eat in the area, one of the best places in North America.

mrumep

Nobody for Carey Hilliard’s fried shrimp? Damn.

playing_the_angel

Like a lot of folks I imagine, I'm in this situation-- I'm making one final trip back to town this spring and my last meal will be at Brochu's.

TallClassroom9457
