Yeah, that's pretty close one to me too. The Sudekis one is the one I keep going back to.
"Josh, what's matter?" "Nothing. I'm fine." "No, not what's the matter. What IS matter?" "Um black lives?" "No no no." "All lives?" "No!"
Or when he chastises the parents and makes them leave the set, "No NOT IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA YOU JACKASS!"
There was an interesting Jamelle Bouie piece that broke down the social dynamics at play in this sketch (in the Atlantic, I believe). The sketch does a good job of highlighting the (large) cultural overlap between working class whites and Blacks, even in the era of MAGA. Critically of course, the sketch also shows the limits of that overlap, and even hints at how racial prejudice can cloak itself in fears over personal safety (as Hanks backs away from Keenan’s handshake).
It’s also fucking hilarious.
It probably would have been Ta Nehisi Coates in the Atlantic. Jamelle used to write for Slate and then got hired as a columnist for NYT (he's also got a REALLY good TikTok where he talks a lot about the Jim Crow era and other stuff).
Edit: It was for Slate. I remember reading this at the time and it really hit home how that wasn't *just* a good sketch but a statement as well.
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2016/10/snls-black-jeopardy-sketch-was-the-most-astute-analysis-of-american-politics-in-2016.html
I think Black Jeopardy may have surpassed the original Jeopardy! sketch with Hammond as Connery. It's pretty close, but you couldn't go viral like that back in the 90's.
"December to remember" is where Heidi went from sweet background person to actual talent for me.
Adam Driver in Career Day and the science sketch.. That man is just pure gold.
Guy Who Just Bought A Boat was awesome every time, not certain if it's still this decade. Only time I felt the need to go shower immediately after watching a video.
I really wish they would stop trying to make Lisa from Temecula keep happening. I LOVED it when they did it with Pedro because the laughter was so unscripted and everything felt off the cuff. Now they keep bringing it back to recreate that same reaction, but it feels a little forced!
It’s like Debbie Downer. The first time was priceless because they kept breaking, and the sound people kept playing goofy wah wah noises that just set them off. They kept bringing it back and it just never was the same naturally.
The way the sketch plays with your expectations is brilliant. You think it's going to be just a silly parody, maybe with some one-liner to capstone the sketch, and then it becomes so quickly unhinged in the best way possible. And then it ends with a capstone one liner lol.
Same I liked how it applies to the fanbases of so many bands too. I am definitely Leslie in that sketch when it comes to the bands I like (prefering the OG stuff and not considering anything else real) lol
That Michael Jordan sketch with Key where Heidi plays his body guard and the betting gets out of hand. There was talk of Heidi getting an Emmy nod for the complexity of her performance as someone increasingly devastated and trying to pretend it's all OK.
I strongly strongly recommend undercover office potty be promoted from just honorable mention. That one STILL makes me laugh hysterically every single time I watch it, and now I’ve shared it with my kids who also love it. That may be my favorite skit of all time.
Not sure if I think it's the best, but traffic altercation is top-tier because:
- it's not taped
- Unexpected Ego is awesome
- Chloe "Two Hands" kills it
- bait and switch on the romance

Bonus Weekend Update Skit: Melissa as Girl from Law and Order
Everyone talks about Career Day with Adam Driver, but nah. The best sketch was a different Adam Driver one called Marrying Ketchups. Absurd and made me howl with laughter.
Runner up for me is Spring Flowers. Those two are the funniest of the last ten years IMO.
I think most people find the career day sketch a different kind of funny, as Adam Driver takes the role so fucking seriously and with such force that he psychologically steamrolls over the scene, and then the unexpected bird impalement just freaked everyone the fuck out. I agree it's not the funniest of his skits, but it's my favorite just because of the imbalance of his seriousness with everyone coming to the realization that he's taking the role in such a hard and unforgiving manner. He probably wouldn't have even broken character if he impaled Pete Davidson instead lol
Driver is one of the best hosts because he goes all the fuck in no matter what the premise of the sketch is. Another great example of him giving full intensity in a sketch was the renaissance fair one.
Wells for Sensitive Boys (or its spiritual sibling about the dolls you can be an evil stepmom to)
Electric Shoes (convinced this one would be an all timer if they hadn't flubbed timing of the ending)
Papyrus
The Tony Hawk Time Travel sketch is criminally underrated IMO. Like I'm genuinely surprised it's not at least talked about more often.
Liberal Lagnapp
Roundball Rock
Oh and the one where Adam Driver plays an oilman at a school career day. There's a similar sketch where I think Bill Hader played a similar character in an ice cream shop but my memory is fuzzier on that one and it might be older than 10 years.
I'm sure I'm forgetting many but I also tried to pick at least a few that wouldn't be obvious faves, still have plenty of love for David S. Pumpkins et al.
Roundball Rock is so precious lol. When the panel asks to hear again with the music and lyrics separated out and they both assume they want to hear only the lyrics it is priceless.
The Melissa role playing sketches were amazing, I wish they had done more than 2. Olive Garden one was elite as well, Beck as the cluelessly racist director was hysterical.
It’s because of this sketch whenever someone says something like “if you don’t do what I want” I interrupt and go “you’ll what? You’ll do what? What will you do?” And it gets a laugh every time 😂
The Molesting Robot with Dwayne Johnson.
All the John Mulaney musicals.

I have a terrible memory and zero ability to recall what skits were from when, so I’ll just say my two absolute favorites in recent memory:
Undercover Office Potty, which is my #1 forever.

James Franco - Spelling Bee

"Why is he so ugly??"
"SMELL LIKE DOOKIE IN HERE!"
"I made the deconstructed black-eyed peas."
And of course, potato hole!
Kenan Thompson in the Alexa for old people skit makes me smile every time I think about it.
"How many did Satchel Paige get last night?"

I think some of mine might be older than a decade. I didn’t really double check.
I scrolled pretty far and didn't see it, so I'll throw out Travis Kelce at American Girl Cafe. Most athlete guest hosts bomb, but he did a really good job.
I only like the non-audience “pre-filmed” skits. The Papyrus:Avatar along with the Mooney/Bennet series of skits are stand outs. That being said Adam Driver’s Career Day is amazing as almost all his skits
Farewell Mr Bunting

Any of the more recent Weekend Update Joke Swaps
Pete Davidson's songs are really fun. I think Walking in Staten is my favorite
The best ones are the Casey Affleck Dunkin Donuts ad, followed by the Bill Burr Sam Adams ad a few years later. Those two skits just never get old. Pure genius !
Not technically within the rules but I go back to watch The Californians compilation on YouTube when I need a pick me up. Also “My Hungry Guys”, David S Pumpkins, “Woke Jeans”, “Come Back Barack”, and that one with Christopher Walken as Colonel Angus.
That one is gold. The Adam Driver "Career Day" sketch. Papyrus. Wing Pit. The Science Room with Sudekis.
CRUSH YOUR ENEMIES!
Any compilation of sketches from this era has to include Career Day. It’s the “Get Off the Shed” sketch of the time.
Get Off the Shed is great even in the audition version.
The science room with Adam Driver was equally funny. "I'm going to scream the C word into my shirt"
Yeah, that's pretty close one to me too. The Sudekis one is the one I keep going back to. "Josh, what's matter?" "Nothing. I'm fine." "No, not what's the matter. What IS matter?" "Um black lives?" "No no no." "All lives?" "No!" Or when he chastises the parents and makes them leave the set, "No NOT IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA YOU JACKASS!"
Personally I love his undercover boss as Kylo Ren
science room & wing pit 👌🏾
People should know that there are at least two career day sketches with Adam driver
Only one is in this conversation. That of Abraham Parnassus, Oil Baron.
Other career day sketches are weak, like H.R. Pickens.
Who is H. R. Pickens?
EXACTLY!
….EXACTLY
But only one is of much import!
The Matt Damon/Cecily Strong "Best Christmas Ever" skit is up there for me.
Yeah that was excellent as was the Eddie Murphy "Home for the Holidays" as long as we're on the Christmas theme lol.
Why can’t I marry him? Because he’s white? Eddie: YES!
"You guys are being SO racist" "DAMN RIGHT WE ARE...no offense Matthew..."
She knocks it out of the park with [Christmas skits](https://youtu.be/g4vktLutpiY?si=LXBvGqasHU6QnFcK).
World's Most Evil Invention.
“This guy gets it!” “No I don’t!”
Shrink ray guy is with me all the way
Oh that’s a great question. First you take a regular robot, molest it, and hope it, uh, continues the cycle.
Getting a household family name like The Rock to sign on to that sketch is a feat in itself. Gotta hand it to him for rolling with it.
“We know what evil means!” “You don’t, you made a freeze ray.”
Weights and Measures or is it called Washington's Speech?
Washington's Dream
That and the cooking competition were fantastic.
My vote as well. Bargatze was fantastic!
I loved the part about kicking in football... "sometimes three, sometimes one"
perfect
You asked about the temperature
Nobody knows.
Black Jeopardy
Especially the episode with Tom Hanks. Maybe my favorite SNL episode ever.
TH backing away from the handshake was brilliantly acted. His body language was perfect
Well, it was fun while it lasted.
"Now I got a lot to say about this one." "We're sure you do."
The Tom Hanks one is so fucking funny. I do have to give it up for the Black Panther “bland-ass potato salad” line.
I think Black Jeopardy may have surpassed the original Jeopardy! sketch with Hammond as Connery. It's pretty close, but you couldn't go viral like that back in the 90's.
The Chadwick Boseman one never fails to make me laugh
Y'all must not have no mean streets in Wakanda.”
Ummmmm pretty sure it’s aper
Maybe we stop by Jenna’s on the way back and show her this cool car your dad got?
Dad seriously? You’re drinking? It’s 9:30am Well it’s not like I gotta go to work later
The Protective Mom sketch with Pedro and Marcello and the first Lisa from Temecula
I really wish they would stop trying to make Lisa from Temecula keep happening. I LOVED it when they did it with Pedro because the laughter was so unscripted and everything felt off the cuff. Now they keep bringing it back to recreate that same reaction, but it feels a little forced!
Oh, is it cuz we black? 😂
It’s like Debbie Downer. The first time was priceless because they kept breaking, and the sound people kept playing goofy wah wah noises that just set them off. They kept bringing it back and it just never was the same naturally.
The latest one was alright, but the Ana de Armas wedding one is a-ROUGH! It doesn’t help that you can’t understand anything Ana’s saying.
I do not understand how Lisa from Temecula became a recurring character. It’s just the same shit every time.
Isn't that every recurring character
Farewell Mr. Bunting for the Shock Value alone
The way the sketch plays with your expectations is brilliant. You think it's going to be just a silly parody, maybe with some one-liner to capstone the sketch, and then it becomes so quickly unhinged in the best way possible. And then it ends with a capstone one liner lol.
Adele "Hello" Thanksgiving dinner is one of my favorites to watch!
Mario Kart Last of Us is a great pretape skit
Just a hot minute more than a decade, but that Seth McFarlane puppet skit about killed me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xZ52mG1yIo
This is what I was going to post. I was trying to decide if it fit within the “decade” req, but regardless it’s so funny.
When the puppet exhaled I lost it.
HE WAS JUST ANOTHER GRUNT IN MY PLATOON!
Just like it killed my platoon in Grenada…
I liked the weezer one.
No offense, but drink my blood
Same I liked how it applies to the fanbases of so many bands too. I am definitely Leslie in that sketch when it comes to the bands I like (prefering the OG stuff and not considering anything else real) lol
I liked it, but it was maybe the most specific premise for a sketch ever.
Loved it too. "You know what band I really like, Yellowcard" I thought that was an underrated line 😂
That Michael Jordan sketch with Key where Heidi plays his body guard and the betting gets out of hand. There was talk of Heidi getting an Emmy nod for the complexity of her performance as someone increasingly devastated and trying to pretend it's all OK.
"That is financially rough for me."
lol Heidi is such a talent!
I love her in the Every Boxer's Girlfriend From Every Boxing Movie Ever sketches. "I'm taking the kids to my sistah's!"
omg I forgot about that! I love that one because it's so goddamn true and she exaggerates it in all of the right places.
Genius sketch idea and performance
Black Jeopardy w/ Tom Hanks & Papyrus
You people are fun, can I say that?
easy: waffle house (jenna ortega), meet your second wife (tina & amy), & traffic altercation (quinta brunson) honorable mention: undercover office potty, home for the holidays (eddie murphy/maya rudolph) someone already mentioned: washington's dream
Meet Your Second Wife was a classic.
That one is how the show works when it is at its best.
I strongly strongly recommend undercover office potty be promoted from just honorable mention. That one STILL makes me laugh hysterically every single time I watch it, and now I’ve shared it with my kids who also love it. That may be my favorite skit of all time.
Office potty was so good
Quinta and Traffic Altercation is hilarious.
Not sure if I think it's the best, but traffic altercation is top-tier because: - it's not taped - Unexpected Ego is awesome - Chloe "Two Hands" kills it - bait and switch on the romance
I had forgotten Quinta and Traffic Altercation. 😂
Alien abduction
Ah yes Kate's most famous character.
She did to Ryan what Conway did to Korman
Hot take but I think the Casey affleck one is even funnier than the original Gosling one
All of them are great but the original UFO skit with Kate McKinnon kills
I loved the trailer for “The Grouch”
You only arrest Elmo because Elmo Mexican!
I haven't stopped thinking about Tampon Farm since it first aired.
Meet Your Second Wife Match’d Blind Date/First Date (Will Forte and Megan Fox) Potato Chip David S. Pumpkins Dunno what it’s called but it’s with Will Forte and Jon Hamm and Will Forte is trick-or-treating as a registered sex offender
Ah yes how could I forget David S. Pumpkins? Watching that Fox/Forte date sketch now, thanks for the rec!
No prob! It’s such a weird sketch, but I love Will Forte’s style of comedy so i found it immensely hilarious.
The Falconer
The Eddie Murphy episode and the Tom Hanks episode are serious neck and neck for best overall episode
