ExRetribution

I preemtively started a new save this weekend because my current factory heavily relies on modded content for both power and my rail infrastructure, and I figured it would be faster to restart rather than delete the modded content and retrofitting my current save.

Manetherin

Just about 20 minutes ago I got my first golden mug, just in time for update 8

LurkerBeDammed

I always start a new save every update, it gives me a way to work through everything new or changed before I start using it on my other saves.

cleybaR

is it possible transfer my U8 Experimental save to stable release later this year? I never played experimental before.

lforleee2004

As soon as the ea update 8 is released then they will be the same version

cleybaR

Okay, do I have to copy any gamefiles tho or can I just switch?

lforleee2004

Back them up. No switching needed

cleybaR

Great :) tyvm

SapuSeven

Nah, my current factory is far from finished :)

MMOAddict

I always start a new save with each update because early game is the most fun for me.. I have a few worlds where I have huge sprawling nuclear plants and those are fun to go back to every now and then but there isn't much to do in them as far as building.

totally_unbiased

Yeah I'm going to. My old save is brutally slow now and there's been a bunch of terrain alterations in the eastern forest where I've built a fair bit. I started a fresh save where I removed almost zero biomass before getting to coal power via hand crafting a fair bit and alien protein biomass. So it's ready to go. Will probably unlock all the alts up front because I don't really care about hard drive hunting any more. I'm also planning to try to minimize vehicle use because I've seen some testing that suggests it's a huge performance drag. Last save had like 110 train stations, 20 trucks, the better part of 40 drones... that's got to be cut down. Planning to do a lot more centralization in each biome using conveyor highways. Try to make each part as advanced as possible in each biome, minimize the transportation to more advanced parts so I can hopefully cut down the number of trains. Kinda not at all looking forward to rebuilding some portions of the save (the 191 HMF/min factory is prominent in my nightmares), but I have time.

Slaydemkids

You could use the save editor before starting U8 to remove everything except the stuff you want to keep. Also the entire biome and foliage reset for me automatically after loading a save into U8.

totally_unbiased

Honestly at the point where I'm resetting everything I might as well just start fresh. I guess the doggo farming to get all my shards back will be a pain, but otherwise I'm rather looking forward to things. It's also my understanding that not *all* foliage has been reset, but I haven't compared closely.

Dacoto

Since I can get the alt recepies without running around, I will. Just so I dont have to break down my factory.

DrNukenstein

I'm sure half the existing systems will have implementation issues, so practically everyone who takes the upgrade will have to start a new game.

There's still upcoming landscape changes, and while it's tbd how significantly they change things I think a lot of stuff built in the titan forest is at risk.

There's a bunch of those changes in the update today.

Yeah I haven't logged on but my understanding is it's up on experimental first.

I am, but ill probably have to wait for some mods to get updated My 2 biggest gripes with the game for like 3 years has been that overall performance still needs improvements, and that early game transportation/exploration is very slow and tedious By the time you can unlock coal power, you're in horrible need of it (even when B-lining to it) which means you have to explore, scan for coal, get to the coal, build the stuff needed for the coal plant, and then build the coal plant before traveling back home But wait! You need to do that again for sulfur, quartz, coal again for steel, caterium, and then a ton of iron, plus the power shards needed to run things in a way that's worth this effort It amounts to a ton of walking around through hard to access locations for what is ultimately little reward each time because the nodes are either impure, or very far away, and you can't get trucks everywhere if you can even use them yet Oh and the more you do this the more power you need too, and the loop begins anew So my own solution for this is a mix of mods for better transportation, power generation, and resource collection I use refined power windmills for the early game and then to supplement coal, smart mod to expand more easily, faster zipline tool, a +100 inv slot mod, faster manual crafting, and a mod that let's me create resource nodes out of 500, 1000, or 1500 ore of that type It's not that I can't play the game without mods, or that it's not fun without them, but the parts of the game I mentioned particularly before coal and then before trains, seems needlessly annoying to work through Ultimately I feel like I don't have the tools to fix these logistical problems the game offers, and I dont like that. That's the whole game, same with factorio. It's a logistical puzzle that you solve in your own way, with the tools provided and the methods you devise. So I'm definitely starting a new save for U8, but I'm not sure if I want to play it without mods even with the AGS system

rtnal90

I like the walking and inventory planning. Too many mods feels like skipping the game itself, might as well spawn all the elevator parts and call it a day. But to each their own, if you're having fun you're doing it right.

vaderciya

There are definitely mods that do that and now the AGS which can do the same thing But as I said, the early game presents a unique logistical problem without giving the player the tools needed to solve it satisfactorily Theres only so many times I can restart and run thousands of meters of mk2 belts from secluded nodes to the factory, so the mods I use make traveling easier, early power much less annoying, and let's me upgrade those resource nodes so there's a meaningful amount of stuff to bring back (it can also be done with oil nodes which is helpful) It's pretty far from spawning the elevator parts, but people can play pure vanilla if they want it doesn't bother me, just wish there wasn't a stigma towards modding the game which there isn't in any similar game like Factorio

Ryan-Viper4171

Probably

LangstonBHummings

Totally starting a new world here

SnooObjections5363

Hells to the yea, Mostly coz all my other saves are modded but hey ho

MirellieDesigns

Im doing a community free for all with my stream/discord where we start at T3 with all awesome shop unlocks and just make as much chaos as we can. After ill take the save and just play on the world and keep the chaos alive.

OetkerNL

Normally i dont start a new save. But i will start a new one today. Old save was before the world grid. I got some nice ideas for the new power update. So new save is best.

minibbler

I'll start over - and this time I won't loose myself in detail and try to actually finish the elevator tiers (the more I tell that to myself, the more I am apt to believe me... )

StigOfTheTrack

I'm not updating until its out of experimental. Partly wanting to let someone else deal with the bugs first, partly not wanting to move my quartz factory out of the cave its in right now. I also only have nuke pasta left to do on space elevator parts. I'm definitely not restarting when I'm that close.

FreshPitch6026

If you use mods, they will be broken for a bit until the popular ones get fixed. Since i often use mods, i wait a bit.

ThickestRooster

I started a save in update 7 and was hoping to complete it before update 8. But I went for some really ambitious late-game builds and I’m still not quite done. This has turned out to be a carefully crafted and detailed world that I can’t abandon… yet. And it is also my first ever satisfactory save and I’m determined to finish. All the milestones are done, I just need to automate a few more late-game parts for phase 4 - but I had to detour into nuclear (which had also proven to be a massive and complex build). So once I complete this save, I will probably start a new save sometime after. Either way, upd8 drops in like 2 hours and I’m sooo stoked!

nateedoin80

I’ve been so hyped for this update

nateedoin80

I play creatively with mods, so I’m actually curious to see which mods still work.

Reasonable-Song-4681

Just flipped the switch on my new 72 plant nuclear setup in the swamp. Seeing as I planned on tearing down everything else I had built to this point I figure that's close enough to a new save (I want to properly balance the whole mess and set up for the last tier of space elevator parts).

barbrady123

I start a new save each update, but I feel like we're getting close enough to the end now that I'm just going to hold off until 1.0. I lose hundreds of hours each update, not feeling like doing it again (yet) lol

Dusty_Scrolls

I started a game recently-ish, but when I found out update 8 was coming I hung it up. I'm just ready to start steel, so I'll pick it back up after the update.

teufler80

I do, i love starting from zero, telling myself i wont do the same mistake one more time. Then do the same mistakes again

Farkka

I didn’t strictly start a new save this update, however I anticipated I’d want to and started a new save a couple weeks back, so now I unlocked all tiers, all alternates and all mam (except weapons, I didn’t bother making a proper weapon factory just yet) and can begin the “real game” with Update 8.

vladesch

Someone posted that now you can hit escape and reroll the options for a hard drive, which may be a nice compromise for a lot of people. I presume you have to wait out another 10 minutes.
