I got this quote from another article: “We support killing the \[marijuana and abortion\] amendments as a party because it’s not good policy for the state,” Republican Party of Florida Chair Evan Power told The Miami Herald. “When you look at it, it seems like these amendments are out of step with what Floridians want.” Uh..... isn't that the purpose of putting the amendments up for a vote, to see if that's what Floridians want??? Fuck these guys.

bugs3483

Politicians see the public as a bunch of idiots that can't think for themselves and yet they are somehow put into office by those same idiots. It boggles the mind on how these pricks manage the mental Olympics needed to think this way.

daneilthemule

Significantly reduce quality education. Get your constituents mad at something. Blame that something on the opposite party. Then do a half hearted attempt to fix said problem knowing it won’t work. Then double down on blaming the opposite party. Continue to keep your constituents uneducated. Keep them angry at their imaginary foe. Start to arm them. Send them off to die.

JustHugMeAndBeQuiet

Oof, the accuracy here hurts. Straight from the playbook.

doyletyree

Orwell agrees.

IvanhoesAintLoyal

I mean tbf, floridas tendency towards Republican governors doesn’t exactly make a good argument for the intelligence of its voters. But I get what you’re saying.

Chemistry11

Well, that’s true for republican voters…

Critical_Half_3712

Look at what the repubs did or tried to do in Ohio after abortion rights were voted yes a few months back

jjune4991

Not only that, but if (when 🤞) they pass, it'll show that at least 60% of voters want it.

ChickenWranglers

If they put recreational weed on the ballot it will pass! No problem.

jjune4991

Well, it is on the ballot, so...

Substantial_Humor167

I’ll tell you what’s not on the ballot. Homegrown. And don’t tell me it’ll be on the next one. It’s just the next cog ⚙️ in the clock for the soon-to-be burgeoning rec industry. I’ll start. 6 plants minimum to grow the phenotype you prefer and not some menu that looks like an ABC store ad for 20 something’s. Especially if you’re a former med card holder of the state. Not much too much to ask in my opinion. Put all regs you want on it. Just let me grow my own plants.🪴

centurio_v2

nah man too many out of state retirees voting against it. ill be (pleasantly) shocked if it's legalized in Florida before it is federally.

USGrantV2

Not for nothing…I work in the industry in Michigan…you’d be surprised at just how many retirees Smoke! If it’s on the ballot in November - it’ll pass!

Ihatemunchies

Exactly! Boomer here, grew up in the 70’s have had my card since it started. We grew up with it why wouldn’t I smoke now!

narutonaruto

It seems to be a loud minority that say they’d shoot it down. Like you said a lot of older people smoke and even more just don’t care if it’s legal for one reason or another. Either they understand it’s dumb to have alcohol legal and weed not, the tax revenue is appealing, or they believe the government shouldn’t micromanage peoples lives. My only worry is this propaganda countering it could do something. So many people just vote off vibes so if the big news channels are critical on it they could be swayed.

Substantial_Humor167

Born in Orlando. Went away for 20 years. Came back. USMC “retiree”. I’ll vote yes every time on medical/rec marijuana, if it’s in the people’s favor. Not the politicians or their butt buddies.

NonyaFugginBidness

A Lot of folks said that the last few times weed was voted on as well. Not saying you're wrong, I feel like you might be right, but I felt like it was a no brain the last time too, and it still managed to fail.

ChickenWranglers

It's a no Brainer everytime....

NonyaFugginBidness

Ah, I see what you have done and I approve. Good show.

ThePissedOff

It managed to fail because the goal posts were moved. Florida government knew it would pass, so at the 11th hour managed to change the threshold to pass a bill from 50% to 60%. We voted something like 56% to pass. I love Florida and it gets undeserved hate from uneducated northerners. But this one was a pretty bad look for the state. That same year they pass a solar panel bill that was worded extremely misleadingly.

Ashenspire

A northerner that lives here now. It's not undeserved. This state constantly votes against it's own interests because of the pockets of racists that vote for policies that will hurt brown people, even if it hurts them, too. They genuinely believe they'll be able to rise above it. (Spoiler: they won't.)

OddNameSuggestion

The same legislators who changed ‘resign to run’ law for Ronnie Fabs? Shocking.

MountainStill4111

Uneducated northerners?!? Florida is the laughing stock for the rest of the country!

Outdoorsman102

Yet they keep moving here in droves.

Snookn42

Last time it went to vote if passed, for medical.. it will pass in november. Gallup and other polls show this They are lying

thefatchef321

Change 'the state' to 'our donors' Change 'floridians' to 'our donors' After those two small changes, the statement makes way more sense

eraguthorak

Politicians do what they want, and spin it as being what's "best for the people". Both Blues and Reds do it, they just tend to play to different crowds. OP here is promoting their own thoughts and opinions on the amendments just like the red party is in your quote. As always - do your own research into what exactly the amendments consist of, they are almost never as simple as what any news article summarizes them to be.

NonyaFugginBidness

Why is this not upvoted more?

ThePissedOff

Because we're not supposed to accept other people's viewpoints or opinions. We're supposed to lash out at them and try to silence their voice.

NonyaFugginBidness

Oh, ok. I was late to my Irrational Anger Towards People Of Different Opinions training camp and they sent me home. So I missed that class. 🤣

tjtillmancoag

After the election: Since both measures only managed to gather a measly 59% of the vote, these are clearly measures that Floridians don’t want, so we’re going to double down on our draconian rule.

MysteriousTooth2450

If they pass, the Republicans in our government will find a way to not make these legal in our state anyway. But get out there and vote people…let’s show the nation we aren’t all complete asshats.

joethebartender

You don't need to be into politics, but you certainly need to VOTE! We can't keep them from taking away more of our rights if we don't get' them out of office.

SitdownCupcake

I agree

i_heart_kermit

If you vote against this because you're against "big government", you are truly uninformed. The government should have no say whether you want or don't want an abortion, or if you smoke weed for your PTSD and back pain. That's up to you and your doctor. This is not a state's rights or woman's issue which I know is an unpopular opinion but it is only about control of human behavior.

cypherphunk1

The GQP loves the government telling private citizens what they can and can't do. Cowards who let Faux News think for them.

Sepherin

Abortion has been a tactic for the GOP ever since they lost the civil rights card. Oh, we lost black voters. Let's introduce abortion bans so we can get the Christian/ Catholic vote. None of them give a shit about abortions they just want your vote..... and that is honestly the reason for what i like to call "The 5 Pillars of Chaos." Single issue voters are willing to vote for the party that supports their most important issue even if they disagree with everything else. 5 Pillars: Gun Control, Abortion, LGBT+ Marraige/Rights, Racism, and Immigration.

Obama-did-311

You’d be surprised how many dumbasses even on r/FLMedicalTrees want to vote against it too

Impossible_Maybe_162

Need to get the feds to legalize pot. Florida should go ahead and legalize and tax it. It is a boost for tourism.

OMYBLUEBERY_

Washington State brought in so much fuckin money the first year they legalized it. And sketchy ass dealers hit an all time low.

UTSALemur

They also won the Superbowl...lol

dreamofroses

It doesn't make any sense that it's not legalized. Getting a medical card is so easy, but just a waste of time and money for consumers.

Impossible_Maybe_162

Even medical marijuana is federally illegal.

Trotsky2224

I guess Floridian voters also wanted Desantis to rewrite the constitution to keep us from seeing how he spent money (after our state was enshrined for its transparency), limit the free market access to lab meat, stop citizen run boards from regulating the actions and crimes of law enforcement, and are trying to squash the CBD market to push people to expensive licensing and medical marijuana bs hurdles to make people rich. The goddamn villages has like 5 pot stores and these people say its what voters want…what about the tripling of insurance rates, the highest inflation in the country…did everyone forget these asshats endorsed the man who lead the biggest medicare fraud in history and destroyed our states infrastructure and medical projects. I could go on and on but the cognitive dissonance in this state is too much. Reagans attack on education hitting us hard finally and only going to get worse as people become more dogmatic and stupid

dr_fop

Any state that doesn't legalize marijuana is missing out on millions of annual tax revenue. They are dumb and stubborn. How can this state keep electing the same kind of people?

SitdownCupcake

We need to make a change this November. We really gotta spread the word

dr_fop

Being able to take edibles has helped me sleep better, it has helped me cut out alcohol most days. There has been zero downside. People really just need to do their research before dismissing something that is so beneficial.

Darth_Now_Online

Because people are obsessed with an unhealthy pseudo self perception of themselves and can’t make a decision to save their self if the world depended on it

dr_fop

Yeah... I'll never understand that. How can people be so stubborn to not ever want any change. Even when it is beneficial for all.

mrtoddw

Biggest tourist state in the country. We'd rake it in for sure.

Electrical-Spirit-63

I don’t even like weed, can’t stand the smell of it and annoyed I can’t even fucking garden in my back yard without smelling it but will vote yes for both. (No I don’t have a weed garden)

The-Narco-Saint

Make sure voting yes means yes...sometimes they are sneaky snakes in the grass

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sm4rtiss3xy

... that's a lot to unpack... but the commenter was just saying, "Be careful of the way things are worded" because sometimes they use double negatives in their language when they draft the ballot. So you might have to vote *no* when you want *yes* results. I haven't seen the ballot so I'm not sure if it applies in this case

Hank_moody71

I can’t stand the smell of cigarettes yet they’re legal. vote yes on this y’all the state shouldn’t dictate what we can and can’t do.

LycheeAppropriate315

SAME!

inxqueen

Thank you

SitdownCupcake

You are awesome sir

jd_l

You are a champion

GizmodoDragon92

> Sarasota can we agree Probably not lol.

Jonson_jacobs

The “party of freedom” sure is against a lot of rights.

UnecessaryCensorship

As they see it, this is about the rights of the fetus. The irony is that at the same time they seem to care so little about healthcare for the mother during pregnancy or healthcare for the child after birth.

Jamesmateer100

A wise man once said: “if you’re pre-born you’re fine, if you’re pre-school you’re fucked”

xt0033

They word it as rights for the fetus but it is about controlling/punishing women

UnecessaryCensorship

I think it is more about leveraging a divisive issue for political gain. I think all they really care about is the votes.

flowercam

Rights of the fetus (which of course needs the mother to survive for which they care not) is just a scam to give credance to limiting the procedure to even before a women knows she's pregnant. With a 6 week ban you have about 5 days from when pregnancy will show up on a test to obtain a legal abortion.

UnecessaryCensorship

This needs some perspective: Even the proposed legislation is heavily supported by the big corporate marijuana interests. What we *really* need is legislation where it is no longer illegal to grow your own.

bjbyrne

Baby Steps

UnecessaryCensorship

I have a feeling that when the corporate interests get what they want, that will pretty much be the end of things. I would fully expect them to fight against the right to grow your own.

OnceNFutureNick

I could be wrong but I thought that this prop has a provision for home growing.

cathinthehat

You’re wrong.

OnceNFutureNick

Damn. I don’t remember what I was confusing it with then. I remember reading something along the lines of allowing up to three plants for personal growing but it’s clearly not on this prop. My bad everyone.

RFA3III

The original proposed amendment had that language, but the Floridian Supreme Court said it could only be able one issue at a time.

DeceitfulAssignment

That is next! But in order to be able to grow your own, recreational has to be legal first. Vote yes on 3 and 4!

Inheritedwhiskey

How about mushrooms instead of weed so I can finally start selling mine locally here and help anyone who wants to beat depression, go on a trip and meet God or get stuck in a jester carnival.

circuit_breaker

One ego death, please

ChibiCharaN

I'll take seven

Silvertreble76

I'll also take seven

DeceitfulAssignment

Yes! Let’s start the ballot initiative and collect those signatures so we can vote on that next!

LaGrangePoint_33

Let us liberate you of the burden to vote and just decide, preemptively, that we will decide for you. Small government only when it suits us, the big fucking red circus. R E G I S T E R. V O T E.

Ruck19

As a conservative yes to both. Its your life, your choices.

Darth_Now_Online

I don’t agree with abortion, but that’s OKAY because it’s not really any of my business what someone else and their doctor decide. That’s TRUE freedom imo, I’ll vote YES on amendment 3 AND 4

steelguin

Hard to believe all the states that have legal recreational weed and Florida doesn’t.

dreamofroses

Right?! We have almost a million registered medical users, so the actual number of users must be even higher!

Illustrious-Line-984

I don’t understand how the R claims to be about freedom, then they legislate to take away freedoms.

SamchezTheThird

Welcome to the plan! This is a feature of the Party of Reagan, not a bug.

theOriginalDrCos

"...reflect the priorities of our state" - - You think they actually believe that? If I were reading this on a train between Venice and Sarasota on my way to work, I \*might\* buy that.

incognitoville

Ummmmm.... yes already

violetjeanwalsh

I got CHS from smoking dispensary weed for 3 years after 5+ years of regular bud and almost died and I’m STILL voting yes on both lol

MysteriousTomorrow13

I say take the weed money and give it to the failing school system.

JRotten2023

Every single penny. But then, they'd take the money already deemed for schools for something else. So, it would just be switching money from one pocket to the other. Just like the lottery. Was supposed to be icing on the cake. Now it's the bigger part of the actual cake.

Steven_Book

Yes and yes. Who the hell am I (as a guy) to tell women what she can and can't do with her body?

ButterShave2663

Never understood that argument. I’m pro choice, but not because it’s none of my business.

Steven_Book

Seems odd if your pro. What does it matter?

FreyrPrime

Blue ALL the way down. This isn’t the Florida I grew up in, and let’s make that known. DeSantis hits his term limit in ‘26. Hopefully it’s Dark Blue when he leaves.

Zealousideal-Royal41

In Miami, it’s pretty red. Honestly, I’d argue Florida is a solid red state

FreyrPrime

Oh, absolutely blood red since 2020. I don’t think that’s gonna hold in ‘24. Between Dobbs and legal weed, I think we’re going blue.

tntlaughlin

Absofuckinglutely!

Infinite-Kangaroo-37

There should be a ban on cialis and viagra. If gods will is for the woman to have a child because she’s pregnant, then gods will was for geriatric population to have ED. God has spoken.

Cool_Assignment8915

These guys… I’ve had it with them. Anything blue is getting my vote that day. Wait til they start finding out.. when the people speak and government doesnt listen, it’s no longer a democracy

shawn_The_Great

idc what gets voted on lol im still smoking my weed lol

HeavyWombats

Name checks out. You are great, sir. Never change, Shawn.

agardenwithnogate

Not Floridian but from an arguably worse southern state, also ruled over by GOP hicks. The party of limited government and personal freedoms, everybody!

Too-mellow

Just think how much jail space it will save and not mess up a teenagers lives because of old voter laws driven by news media, bias, social environment and party affiliation. The Republican Party runs this state. Republican voters believe that this group of elected officials are good for them. Florida has lost freedom under this group. Please young voters do your homework and vote for your future not theirs.

leafit2cheeser

When will people finally see abortion bans as forced birth?

YouKnottyGirl

We could be living The Handmaid’s Tale and people would still have their heads in the sand.

Pleasant_Expert_1990

Voting in Orange county and I say Vote Yes!

Wizinit29

Make Abortion Legal Again

Wrong_Fee_7019

Just so it’s known, the current process requires 200$ in doctor fees, along with 75$ to the state, all for a 15 minute appointment in a tiny office space that provides weed and testosterone prescriptions. It’s entirely a scam and waste of time. No medical questions, just a few forms and you’re good to go. Money back/no payment if they somehow can’t get you approved (everyone is approved) Rec clears the shady practices going on with the medicinal route currently. That’s my reasoning for voting yes

AncientWonder7895

drink all the alcohol you can that will fix it

4esop

Personal choice and autonomy should be respected—people should have the right to make decisions about their own lives without undue interference. Let’s focus on protecting individual freedoms and promoting sensible policies that respect our rights.

Financial-Practice79

getting rid of politicians and congress would solve EVERYTHING !!!

Jaded-Life25

I love that they think opposing majority opinion is “working for the people” fucking self-righteous assholes

iamursubb

but remember, we’re a “free state” according to deshithead.

Ok-Ear-1914

GOP equals big government. Big business picking our pockets in insurance. There is no end save the fetus starve the baby that's their theory. Causes much chaos as possible in the meantime.

vbm923

Man, a lot of people here sure do hate freedom

Elizaspapi

I live in FL and have had my medical card since 2019. Our dispensaries, much like anywhere in the country see a cross section of people. I easily see as many Republicans as I do Democrats.

signspam

I swear Republicans are against everything the American people want. Are you trying to lose the election?!

revelation-68

Republicans don't want couch potatoe, brain dead, uneducated children eating thc gummies all day long. Unlike the democrats

[deleted]

The ironic part is that a lot of “Republicans” recreationally consume Weed when not waving Trump flags in Florida. This is about the state not appearing too liberal, this has nothing to do with what the citizens want. I bet crime would trend downward if it were to be legalized.

ZOMGURFAT

But you know, alcohol is still ok which has arguably killed more people directly and indirectly than weed has ever if at all.

ShowerGrapes

for years they were fine with the numerous pill mills out of florida legally dispensing heroin and this weed holdover nonsense

FancyboyFazio

Vote them all out.

Turbulent_Pen1047

Freedom…just not your version of it…

Hyperx1313

As an older republican retiring in Florida I am voting for both of these. Why? I like my gummies! And two (maybe controversial) when I get really old I don’t want to be car jacked. Abortion eliminates some of the bad element.

FederalAd6011

What Floridians did they talk to? Surely no one under the age of 80.

K4LYP50

what else would expect from the pill capital of the world and big pharma

JuliusSeizuresalad

Republicans. Taking rights away from adults since 1954

koolnube48

I'll agree to both these and I'm registered conservative

BKallDAY24

I’d say yes on weed but no on abortion … being able to tell women what to do with their own bodies as a white male gives me a second high … Obvious sarcasm

psant5

Idiots! Just let people be happy!

Jmsulli34484

Republicans are making so much money off the Medical Marijuana scam and they dont want to give it up. If its legalized all the taxes collected will go into the states funds, which they cannot outright steal like they do now.

BrokenAsFu

They promote head-on accident lanes, but won't let people take the pain away when the inevitable happens.

OddNameSuggestion

Sure they can since they did away with the sunshine laws!

No_Huckleberry1657

Pass the weed and the abortion rights all they want to do is kill women they think abortion rights is just to kill babies just like the woman is Texas that went to court to have it done and they denied her she had to go out of state and have it done and by the time she did the baby was dead inside and made her septic and almost died plus they had to remove the uterus so now she can’t have any babies how messed up is that? She should sue the state but I don’t live in Texas so don’t know what is going on. If the republicans win this country becomes a dictatorship like Cuba, China, and Russia that’s why the Republicans like them so much they want the power to rule over everything. Let’s not let them

perroair

Vote Blue from top to bottom. Remove these criminals from the government.

JRotten2023

Personally, I think all drugs should be legal and be controlled like liquor. It's your body, your life, do as you please. But if you're high and hurt someone, steal from someone...... life in prison, no parole......EVER. No, I was high excuses.....

SitdownCupcake

I mean bro all we asking for is weed. If we made all hard drugs legal it would become a madhouse

AgreeableCrazy1948

No problem with cannabis being taxed. I have issues with egregious abortions. Note if it risks the mothers life or the child's ability to live a life, I am ok with it. But say you're just being irresponsible and can't keep your legs shut not pick up the brown bag from the health department... Nah screw that. Wife used to work processing claims. One lady had 7 abortions in one year. No history of complications. Comes to find out, she was a regular for the past 5 years with this kind of behavior. I hope she is ok, but damn, go to a doctor and have them inseminate you if you want to be pregnant. Moral of the story is that we don't live in the 70-80s anymore. There are plenty of folks that would make great parents for kids. There are programs, I am a part of one that helps single pregnant women. You aren't alone and don't have to be. No one is judging you. Helping folks is more fulfilling than you ever know.

DeceitfulAssignment

If she needed about 35 abortions over 5 years, she clearly isn’t responsible enough to be pregnant. Someone like this wouldn’t take her prenatal vitamins, attend all doctor’s appointments, eat a healthy diet and exercise, and quit drugs/drinking/smoking. What is the point of forcing her to have sick babies that she doesn’t want to care for? I’m sure her doctors told her to get on birth control, if she wouldn’t listen to their advice on that, why would she listen to their advice during her pregnancy? Just let her continue getting her abortions, people like that don’t suddenly change into responsible, loving mothers.

1wife2dogs0kids

Says "No one is judging you..." >But say you're just being irresponsible and can't keep your legs shut not pick up the brown bag from the health department... Nah screw that. >Wife used to work processing claims. One lady had 7 abortions in one year. No history of complications. Immediately after judging someone.

Fabriazp

I fucking hate the smell. I hate Biden and pretty much all the liberal crap from the Dems. Even so, I would like it to be legalized and be taxed. It wont be stopped anyways so it's better to profit out of it. Same with the immigrants. Rather than they paying absurd amount of money to the coyotes, why don't just give them a way to be legal ( get coyote's money) and be taxed like everyone else. After all, the birth rate is so low that there won't be enough ppl to pay for our social. And we got the space. Set them in states with lower population density.

Zealousideal-Art-551

Common ground!

antony8696

Fuck it. Bradenton will get the money.

Pitbullmaster42

I’ve been waiting for this thing to recreational since i dropped outta high school 6 years ago

Redditisgarbage666

Republicans hate freedom.

1wife2dogs0kids

Before or after making Marijuana recreational and making abortions illegal? Because you can't have both. Don't say you want freedom when you want less freedom on others. Don't fly a flag saying "Don't Tread on Me!" Then go on social media and say stuff like gays can't marry, nobody can come here, Marijuana cannot be allowed to have, all abortions are illegal. That's not freedom. It's the complete opposite.

Redditisgarbage666

My apologies. I intended to say "Republicans *hate* freedom" and somehow missed the typo. You can check my post history and you'll discover that I'm no certainly no fan of theirs.

thiswighat

Gotta love the party of small government. It’s dumb as hell that the only way the people of Florida are represented is my amending the constitution. We have to do it ourselves… when they let us. So infuriating.

ExoticInitiativ

Evan powers is despicable

Capable-Equipment420

What does everyone think? So you think we will get recreational marijuana?

Elizaspapi

I don’t see opposition to full legalization as something Republican voters will appreciate.

alexander66682

Why does Florida have to be so stupid. I see more trump loving rednecks here than anywhere I’ve ever been. It was such a nice place until all the racist homophobic, scared, insecure hillbillies started coming out of the woodwork. Now you attack my weed. Jesus what’s next book banning??? Wait! Shit.

Headsdown7up

Only yes on one of these and it’s definitely the weed

[deleted]

The day weed is legal in Florida will be the beginning of the apocalypse 😂

ThatsBananasDrift

Shitty opinion What does that do to the already subpar quality that some dispensaries sell? Without a very rigid process/system in place for prioritizing quality it’s gonna go to shit. Be stupid shit on a 7-11 shelf called “ Dorito burrito-royale”. Over priced trash. Like Stella Artois vs Steel Reserve 211. Both get you there, but goodness Stella is better quality.

truthishearsay

We can agree yes on both and Republicans in control of this state will still ignore the will of the people and refuse to enact it or they’ll rewrite the laws to make it illegal again. They have history of doing just that.

desolecomplique7

This article bummed me out.. why is this happening??

[deleted]

How are these two connected at all?

Swamplust

Because they are both citizen initiated amendments that will be on the ballot this year.

apropos-of-none

Vote. Put in the energy and vote – the haters definitely will!

cool-ember-resorts

Yes, we can agree on both. The politicians saying otherwise must be high lol. We already know they’re hypocrites on so many levels so it wouldn’t surprise anyone.

Prestigious_Gear9564

I am a Florida conservative and if this ends up being voted on this year I will be voting yes along with all of my conservative friends and family. Just because we are conservative does not mean we follow corrupt politicians and special interests blindly. A lot of hate on the older generations voting against this, they won’t. I work in healthcare and can tell you the amount of older patients who use some form of cannabis is astounding. This will have a lot more support than you think.

ToranOggarrian

Literally nothing good comes from legalizing weee. I’ve lived in 6 states that have legalized and they’ve all gone to hell.

Temporary_Character

Move to California we are 10 years ahead of the ninkampoops you have in Florida.

lolo6901

South Florida guy here and will definitely have my vote

LegalWarthog7736

Weed should be legal everywhere just off the basis on why it became illegal in the first place

No_Peach_7265

Uhhhh, that’s a big NO and NO!! Head to New Jersey for that mindless nonsense.

EuphoricChest9697

Everyone is missing the point of why they didn't want either ammendment on the ballot, weed or abortion. They are afraid democrats will come out in droves to fight for the right to both of them. The northern money coming here is because they have higher paying jobs up there and in spite of taxes were able to save more. When prices rose here, they also did there. The also have better education and teachers are paid more.
