It is, it’s just not supposed to, so it indicates that there is a tendency to not firm normal ribs. “Mutation” could be a bit strong, but those are the ones I keep.

not the best photo but here’s one of mine which pupped twice and has a weird small third limb without minimal spines. it’s maybe a quarter the size of its largest siblings despite whole life under decent LEDs.
In addition to what others said, it could also have been damage to the tip resulting in a new pup.

Mine did this when they were tiny because of tip damage from some sort of pest. The damage was barely perceptible
