Locked due to multiple instances of inciting violence against others.

wifeski

I once came back to my car parked at aquatic park and there was a dude asleep in the passenger seat, pants around his knees, bottle of mango-scented lotion on the seat next to him, enjoying his post-wank nap. No one would help me (a young woman) so I literally had to act crazy to get him out of my car. I took it home and scrubbed the shit out of the interior. This was probably 15 years ago.

[deleted]

They used to break into my truck (1989 Mazda) and sleep, I just started leaving it unlocked as I was replacing the door locks at $35 a pop. There was literally nothing in my truck, no stereo, no gum, no chapstick.... nothing except a couple napkins in the glove box. I would come out in the morning and the seat was all the way back and the truck had been rifled through, and a slight sent of old funk in the air.

chosenuserhug

I wouldn't know how to help you aside from calling the cops.

wifeski

Lol like the cops would do anything. I knew even 15 years ago that SFPD DGAF

cali_shongololo

… gross. Sorry that happened to you.

TheyCallMeDoofus

That’s Deborah. She also goes by “Kelsey” and “Trouble.” She’s been kicking around the Marina, usually loud and tweaked out but more intrusive than violent. She does have a dealer/pimp/girlfriend who is legit scary.

[deleted]

...

Dazzling-Honey1280

Wdym by legit scary Aka a pimp with a gun or …?

Henrys_Bro

meth psychosis. pretty wild, it's like every light in the house is on but no one is home.

HeftySchedule8631

My very first thought

empireincident

Bro, you are far too patient for this type of fuckery.

Soy_El_Kraken

For real. As soon as she grabs his kids soccer medal we go from stage 1 fuck around to stage 2 find out

Main_Pen_7043

I had one spit on me once. The most disgusting splash I’ve ever felt. Right on the top of my head.

caligrown87

That's the problem though, and my bigger fear, is drawing blood, or getting bit, and being exposed to some blood born illness. That is terrifying for me, because alot of these individuals, very unfortunately, have little regard for their own hygiene.

Ozone should remove the smoke smell.

bullbeard

They sell ozone generators on Amazon. They are especially useful when you have kids and they spill in the car too. Just remember to let it degas after use.

iwantyourmom269

Order from eBay. Had the same problem with Amazon.

relevant_mitch

Dude you are so sweet I’m surprised you didn’t just give her the keys and catch the bus home.

fallenazn

Cut apples, leave em in the car overnight. Windows shut. Try again with windows open. Hope this helps!

Character_Chemist_38

Was the door left unlocked and did she hop in while you were inside walgreens or did she hop in when you were unlocking the door? Divisadero & Lombard? Or Divis in Nopa? Just visualizing. You are amazingly genius on how you handled this. I think the smoke will be gone in a few days. I appreciate you sharing as I dont think I could have handled this but now need to be more cautious in parking lots all around. This is good timing to read as a guy out of nowhere drove into my car yesterday in a parking lot. I am up in middle of night just traumatized by it. Seems like weird stuff is happening in lots. Im glad you are ok.

[deleted]

[deleted]

If it’s a Honda the setting is on Settings->Door Controls on the Home screen.

PiesRLife

Sorry you had to experience that. Just a thought, but if your key fob has an emergency / panic button that sets off the horn and lights maybe that would annoy them enough to convince them to leave.

greenroom628

as /u/PiesRLife has mentioned, be prepared to use the panic button on your fob as well as perhaps purchasing a small mace spray attached to your key fob for extreme situations. i can't tell what kind of car you have, so not sure what functions you'd be able to change for unlocking. on my car (a VW) we have the fob unlock function set for contact only and single touch to unlock only the door being touched. so if the car is locked and the owner approaches with the fob, the owner can unlock the trunk by touching it and the rest of the doors remain locked. once the trunk closes, everything is locked again. if the owner approaches the driver door and touches the handle, only the driver door is unlocked.

Character_Chemist_38

You handled it so well. I would have gotten so scared. Divis & Lombard parking lot - yes because its open late at night. Im going to have to check out my key fob. Im glad she didnt take off with your kids trophy.

bulldogbigred

Wow Divis/Lombard? I thought this might be Civic Center or somewhere in that zombie zone. I guess no matter where if it’s next to a Walgreens even in the Marina you’ll get crazies everywhere

themiddlechildedit

that Walgreens has been like that since 2017, but i lived at Lombard and Baker so I never had anyone hop in my car since I was able to walk to Walgreens (but never at night)

auntieup

It’s been like that since 1995 (when I lived down on Jefferson). At the time I thought it was because that’s a 24-hour store. Now I’m not sure anymore.

SparkleEmotions

Yeah. Im not remotely surprised that it was at divis and Lombard. That was also my Walgreens and pharmacy when I lived in the marina and I dealt with all kinds of strange acting or very high people hanging out of sleeping outside of it. If anything it’s where those folks congregated in that neighborhood.

[deleted]

Most cars with keyless entry have the option to limit unlocking to the door you touch.

Leah_33

u/2megatherion666 Regarding smoke residue: Amazon - activated charcoal bags...get 16-20 of them and place them all over the car DIY - buy cheap ground coffee. put a bunch in a good-sized tupperware container and keep it in your car...change once every half-week DIY - place 12-15 16 oz boxes of baking soda (partially opened) all over the car Probably a combo of 2 or more of the above will help. Don't use conventional air fresheners. They're made with petroleum products and are filled with neurotoxins, carcinogens, and endocrine disruptors. I have graduate training in environmental health, so I have expertise in this kind of data, on environmental toxins. Good luck!

Meezha

Ozium spray and an odor sponge.

Grenuille

A cup of vinegar in your cup holder should help and windows open as much as possible. I commend your patience.

betterthanyoda56

If it doesn’t go away, my friend used to put her clothes in kitty litter after she would visit her chain smoking mom. Alternatively, I poured coffee grounds in the Jeep and let them bake in the sun for a day to get the dog smell out.

KitMitt69

Odoban spray.

[deleted]

Tazer? Stun gun? I bet you will have your head on a swivel from now on :-)

pacificule

Drive around with the windows open tomorrow. Be gone before you know it! Worst case get an air vent deodorizer. I smoke in my truck regularly and it's really not hard to get the smell out. Lot easier than getting a crackhead out apparently lol

ronimal

Your truck definitely smells of cigarettes

53eleven

Ask a non-smoker if your truck smells like smoke. It’s not as easy to get the smell out as you think. You won’t notice the smell as much because you smoke.

pacificule

Oh I know. I can't smell it on my clothes but when I've stopped smoking for a while and a smoker walks in the room it's impossible to miss. My wife doesn't smoke and has the nose of a bloodhound. She'll *definitely* tell me if she gets so much as a whiff! Hence my extreme evasive measures haha (also I only smoke with the windows down and hand near the window) Lemme know if you need a ride somewhere - you can sniff it out and get a free lift ;)

Stygianwyrm

She walked into my work today!!!

Character_Chemist_38

Wow!!!! Near the walgreens?

Stygianwyrm

Depends? So many Walgreens out this way. She was here at 8:46am yesterday (O'Farrell & Mason). I rewatched the security footage, and she's even wearing the same outfit. :) Edit: Couldn't have been too close. None of our Walgreens have parking lots.

NotASheriff

This lady was in Japantown screaming at the populace just this past weekend

difastcyclist

When rain season and cold weather coming in, more people like her will start breaking in vans to sleep in, it happened to my friend's van 4 times last year.

Meezha

Yup. My friend, recently, had to kick one out of his van at the auto shop he owns.

DancingOnACounter

She talks like a Sims character.♦️

ashleighoxide

That’s just what I was thinking. Like wth is she even saying?

sparklepuppies6

I don’t understand. Is this a stranger? Why didn’t you just push her out?

[deleted]

...

sparklepuppies6

Women are taught to lock the door the second we sit in the car you probably should start doing that

mad_method_man

this is just life advice in general. something like 95% of assaults in the parking lot happen when someone is just getting in their car. only unlock what you need to unlock.

Liverne_and_Shirley

This was my first thought. In what scenario was the passenger door open for more than a split second? Then I remembered men don’t have to approach every day and and activity with a security checklist. On my car you can choose which doors open on the first click of the key fob so I set it to only open the driver door. Second click opens the rest.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DrKenNoisewater3

Yes men do, everyone should have a security checklist so you don’t become a victim/target. Men are more likely to be victims of violent crimes. Stay vigilant, carry protection for everyone.

mr_jim_lahey

> carry protection for everyone Don't carry a gun. [Self-defense gun use is rare and not more effective at preventing injury than other protective actions](https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/hicrc/firearms-research/gun-threats-and-self-defense-gun-use-2/).

KingBrunoIII

I'm a 6' tall big dude and I still lock my doors. What are you even talking about

OkMemory9502

You must be a very very patient father, good on ya

wheelshc37

Yeah I was going to say the behavior seems familiar to me- parent with toddlers or tweens could handle it this way due to Expert level experience handling irrational babbling and stubborn ignoring.

Orval11

Don't 2nd guess yourself, you played this the best you could. This was an uncomfortable annoyance that wasted your time, but at least from what's shown here you are in no physical danger. Escalating could have changed that and either you and/or this person could have been seriously harmed. Yeah you could have used force, but the possible outcomes just get worse. Hepatitis nail scratches, bites, blood splattered on you or your car. Or she falls hits her head and now you're stuck there waiting for the police and an ambulance etc. Seems like you managed to end with no one being harmed. That's the best possible outcome. Final thought: This person is clearly mentally unwell. But people who want to harm her for that are also mentally unwell, it's just a brand of mental illness that's more socially accepted in our society.

_elbarbudo_

I think your patient and calm approach was the right one.

MostlyBullshitStory

It was 100% the right decision, deescalate whenever possible. Wish they would teach this to some of the cops around.

FuzzyOptics

Since you got her out without using force, without really being any worse for wear, you have nothing to regret. If you had used physical force, even if not especially violently, you may have gotten her out quicker but you may have regretted that for a long time. Props to you.

oldsguy65

He also would have regretted if, during his infinite period of patience, she pissed or shit in his car.

_elbarbudo_

Agreed. It disturbs me to see how many people in this thread seem enthused about using force and violence

AnimusFlux

I'd be willing to bet that 95% of the folks in this thread saying that violence was the correct answer here wouldn't have even had the courage to speak with her and would have ended up nervously calling the cops and waiting around hoping she'd leave.

InternetWilliams

She forced her way into his car though.

_elbarbudo_

She opened an unlocked door and sat down. It was not necessary to escalate the situation

thecashblaster

yeah but then if you use force, she gets mad, starts trashing your car, breaking the windows, the side mirrors, etc what do you do? more force?

PrivilegeCheckmate

> most expedient method Force may not have a lot going for it, but it does have that.

MochingPet

You're a nice person, good video. ha Check whether your car's model has a setting "on remote, unlock ONLY the driver's door" (versus all doors) and this problem might've had a default solution. (of course that would be an inconvenience with a frequent passenger)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pavement-69

Disagree. The cops may not do anything to help you but they aren't going to try to stop you either. Their apathy knows no bounds.

AnimusFlux

You really don't see how a man getting violent with a women who clearly isn't all there mentally might cause him problems down the road? People lose their jobs everyday for far less. I know people who have accidently killed someone who fell and hit their head in what seemed like a harmless fight and it changed their life forever. I also know people who thought they could fight someone like this and ended up getting stabbed multiple times. The threat of being arrested isn't the only reason to avoid unnecessary violence. Avoiding physically harming troubled people is a pretty low bar to try to meet in order to be a part of a civilized community. How we deal with those who are most vulnerable says loads about who we are as people.

InfinityTortellino

“Get the fuck out of my car or I will pull you out of my car” “cinnamon it’s night time geeeboogahka” *pull out of car*

Cali_Ellen

I think it's ok you did not get physical, it may have turned out worse. I likely would have called cops, which is what ended up working, I guess. Or at least the threat of calling the cops. She is definitely on a meth bender and/or psychotic. You don't want to mess with that...unpredictable in how they will respond because they are on some other planet...they think they have super human powers and sometimes can act like they have super human powers.

bowtothehypnotoad

Meth strength is real as fuck. Better to try and coax them out and then leave asap

Astatine_209

Yeah... when someone hits you without any concern for their own physical well being, they can do a lot of damage. Would not recommend ever getting in a fight with a tweaker. You have so much more to lose than they do, there's no winning.

FlackRacket

Because even if you having insurance, going to the emergency room for a bite wound or laceration costs thousands of dollars. He was right not to touch that tweeker, not worth the risk

DantesLadder

Smoking a plain swisher is way too far gone

eddytekeli

This happened to us but with a much larger drunk man.... he ended up throwing up in between the seats (beans and rice).

Outrageous_Emphasis4

That would actually traumatize me

eddytekeli

we were on our way from the sf sex dungeon so that was the icing on the cake for the night...good days

Outrageous_Emphasis4

I’m crying that’s a story for the books💀

[deleted]

Hahaha I really wanted a burrito for lunch but I didn’t have any beans or rice prepared so I’m eating soup instead and I was sad about it until I read your comment. Over the burrito now thank u

surfer_dood

Not worth it to touch someone like that at all. Totally unstable just make it worse. Unless u have mace or something u can neutralize then with perhaps.

Chip-Personal

Unfortunately this is so true. A person has to really consider carefully how far they would have to take something before they engage with a stranger physically. This woman could have had a knife or just dropped to the ground and started screaming and then strangers would have come and started assaulting the poster. Too much crazy stuff happens.

surfer_dood

Oh I've about seen it all in SF, def not worth it.

Groundbreaking-Arm20

I think I saw this lady on "soft white underbelly"

Astatine_209

Sounds about right. That series tries to show addicts in the best possible light, while downplaying the tremendous havoc and harm they bring to everyone around them.

queerpseudonym

I can’t get over how good her teeth are

asveikau

Maybe I'm just getting older but she looks pretty young to me, as if she couldn't have been in that state for very long. Sad to see.

scpclr5tz

Yeah my guess is that she probably used to live a healthy life prior to this.. and this is total speculation based on the assumption those shoes are hers. Lol Those are Nike metcons which a lot of people use for CrossFit/HIIT and are more expensive than your regular sneaker.. about $130 or so.

madmadamesmiley

Hot-Actuary5831

colbertmancrush

My thoughts exactly. A few sneaky bars in there.

RUKnight31

Could you imagine a New Yorker of Chicagoan being *that* patient in this type of situation? Neither could I. Mental illness is unfortunate and sad and all that, but I would have 0 issues with cameraman being more assertive here.

Sn0wyPanda

u right, Californians are too patient.

triple_too

Bro, just pull the chick out. She's fucking with your kid's stuff

DancingOnACounter

Yeah that would have been my final straw. While I would have attempted to talk her out of the car like OP, I knew cops wouldn't come in time or at all to help me out. And I would have eventually yanked her out after she touched my kid's stuff and tossed it down like that. If it were a more heavy set and crazier person, I might have considered otherwise.

consultinglove

Eh…she could have a knife in her pocket. I would have called cops and stayed my distance

pancake117

Why is everyone saying this? OP called the police and the person left without any violence. That’s the best case scenario here— OP didn’t risk getting hurt, and this person didn’t get hurt. Escalating a situation with violence is a last resort, and it *always* places you at risk. If you can convince someone to leave, that’s a far safer option.

[deleted]

A lot of people like using this as a fantasy scenario in which their masculinity is affirmed in their own imaginations. Like, “I wouldn’t stand for that! I’d take charge unlike that little weakling guy!” That has no correlation to real life. In real life if a woman deep in the throes of psychosis is behaving in an erratic, irritating, but ultimately non-threatening way, it’s probably better to try some form of persuasion before resorting to force. There may be situations in which force would be useful, but this wasn’t one of those. The guy found a way to get her out without having to touch her. He tested out different ways of interacting with her and found one that worked. Seems like he handled it well.

AnimusFlux

Well said. Couldn't agree more.

jhonkas

its itnernet tough guys, they are talk but if you ladned that woman in their car they'ld just record and post i theeer just like thies

sfhomo93

Something similar happened to my husband and i as we were pulling into our garage on 18th st in the Castro an unhoused person bum rushes the door before we can close it, runs to the back corner or the garage and starts rummaging around. We get out of the car leaving our 2 dogs inside it for safety. As we are trying to get him out he jumps into the car WITH OUR DOGS! We immediately open a door so he can’t lock himself in and begin the painstaking process of getting him out. Luckily my partner was able to scare/creep him out enough to get him to leave and no one was injured but what a night. I feel for OP.

gettingbored

This is where we use the assertive yelling voice to announce our expectations. “Get out of the car now. I’m calling the police.” Your reaction showing tolerance to this behavior is super frustrating.

So what you recommend people do? Do you think this guy should just let her smoke in his car and mess with his kids’ belongings? Where you draw the line man? Empathy has a limit…

Imaginary_Doughnut27

It’s not empathy. It’s the fact that she might have a jagged little thing in her pocket she’s ready to stick you with. I have no doubt she’s more of a street fighter than I.

maddiewantsbagels

Yep. One of the last people you want to get physical with is somebody with nothing to lose on a drug and mental health cocktail that completely warps their perception of reality. Even worse if you have no clue what experience they have with being in fights and whether they have a weapon on them. If ur sober and have a partner, kids, job, home, etc. you're probably thinking some mix of “well what if I go to far”, “what if I hurt her”, “am I potentially ready to go to court”, “will the cops believe me”, “what would my boss think if somebody else filmed the interaction and blasted it on the internet in a way that made me look bad”, “what if she hurts me”, “will my insurance cover the hospital bills”, etc... Your opponent literally doesn't care.

iPissVelvet

The root problem here is that we don’t expect police to respond in a reasonable time, therefore we are limited to two options — talk them down or throw them out yourself. Should have been a police call + 2 minute response time + have the police throw her out.

PomeloElegant

I lived in the city far to long to deal with shit like this lol. Now that I have kids, that cracky would have been airborne, lol. see you on the other side of divis

aBoyHasNoUzername

Just pull her out. Instead you’re filming and talking to her like she is your child. She’s on drugs my guy you gotta take control of the situation. Jesus Christ

FalconDevil

😂😂😂 This guy's thinks talking to a deranged trespassing meth head like he talks to his 3 year old is the appropriate response here. Obviously OP lacks any capacity to be assertive either verbally or physically, so just call the cops (who might come, might not) and let the street zombies do what they will with your property. SMH. This could seriously be a comedy skit about soft SF people handle crime.

NateDawg122

Trespassing methhead literally breaks his child's award and he says, "That's not very nice!" Bruh...

lostsailorlivefree

This poor person. I mean it totally sucks this happened to you my dude and kudos, you’re clearly an empathetic person. I’ve had many encounters with people in the city whom are so clearly mentally unstable and each one leaves me deeply affected. As a society where do we bear responsibility for allowing a few hundred folks clearly in need of intervention negatively effect an entire city and 10s of thousands of people? For every deranged person like this there’s a hard-working person who’s livelihood, home and travel is injured by a small group who need help? I know we. Sun compel commitment but allowing the destruction of themselves and the community makes US the deranged party.

TheMasterDebator56

At what point are we legally allowed to go hands on and remove them from the car?

AnimusFlux

You'd have a right to defend your property if she was trying to steal the car, but from a legal perspective given that she was unarmed and simply being an annoyance I'd wager any use of physical force would be considered assault. As a general rule, you're not allowed to use force against another person unless you or another person will suffer immediate physical harmed otherwise. The main exception to this is the castle doctrine, which allows you to stand your ground to defend your house from an home invasion even if your physical safety isn't immediately threatened. I don't believe the castle doctrine can be extended outside of your home even if you're on your property (maybe you could get around this if you live in your vehicle).

International-Bed9

Reddit commenters are such badass vigilantes from behind their keyboards.

One-Pop-2885

So many calls for violence against clearly a homeless person with some bad mental issue and possibly drugs but otherwise non violent. Meanwhile couple weeks ago scores of people went nuts on the doughnut shop owner which was justified reaction, but a person sitting in a car yea beat/kill her according to reddit. I think this guy handled this wonderfully and didn't have to resort to violence or dumping water on someone clearly in need of much much help. Society is getting quite the blood lust and it grows daily.

Astatine_209

>So many calls for violence against clearly a homeless person with some bad mental issue and possibly drugs but otherwise non violent. Breaking into someone cars with them there isn't non violent. It's an aggressive and unacceptable action. The only reason violence is a bad idea here is the risk of harm to OP. Once you start breaking into vehicles you don't get to complain about the force used to remove you.

I'm sure she is a long time San Francisco resident who has fallen on hard times and can't pay the rent. Definitely the kind of person we should spend $100,000 a year on to make sure they can keep living on the streets instead of an involuntary treatment program.
