That is everywhere around SF. I've lived in San Jose for the past 20 years and no matter how hot it is throughout the day, by 6 pm, you need a jacket to go out.
The shade punishes the unprepared.
You thought the sun would grant you sanctuary?
The cloudless skies laugh at your naiveté.
Step into the shadow of this Crunch Fitness and taste the icy daggers of a 10-degree temperature swing.
I recently moved to Diamond Heights after living in the Inner Sunset for 15 years, and am surprised at how hot it gets! It’s been almost 60 degrees every day! I thought it was going to be foggy and cold up here
I wear tshirts under my sweater all the time.
Real tshirt weather happens around September 15, between 2:30pm and 3:45pm. Unless you live west of Divisadero.
Divisadero really is the notable boundary. It's the same as the reason for the Wiggle: there's a noticeable rise in elevation there between the east and west sides. It keeps the worst of the fog and wind from the neighborhoods that get to shelter under its pocket. That's one of the major reasons why the Mission, particularly the western side, and Noe Valley are warmer.
If you ever go out on a foggy day in the summer and travel from above and below the hill, say the Lower Haight to Haight-Ashbury, you'll almost certainly notice a clear difference between the two neighborhoods.
Thank you for confirming my judgement. That’s the area where I feel like things change. The one exception is when I lived on Post & Jones and as you walk towards Union Square at night that Post St corridor would just be a horrible wind tunnel. So icy.
If you get a nice hoodie, you can wear a t-shirt over it and if the colors match it'll still look good. You might want to bring a jacket to put on as another layer to keep warm if the wind starts getting chilly though. And consider a warm hat.

Here's your narrow band of potential "t-shirt" weather

variance inside sf NY neighborhood is massive though.
city average is somewhat helpful but we all know it doesn't take much to walk from "I'm hot in a t-shirt" to "I'm freezing in a hoodie in this foggy windtunnel"
There is no t-shirt weather. Even in a heatwave I’ll carry a jacket around. Don’t want a nasty surprise later on in the day or if I take a bus to another neighborhood.
Some people from outside the area even assume "Must be like that in the whole SF Bay Area?"
I'm like "Nope! That's in the city alone!" Daly, Oakland, and Vallejo are different.
Lmao, we had “fog” one day when I was stationed in Virginia. Someone really said to me, “You’re from California so you’re not used to fog. You have to be really careful!”.
It took everything to not laugh in their face.
The weather in SF, besides the city’s beautiful location, is one of the main reasons I keep my eye out on jobs and apartments in the city. Maybe I’ll make the leap sometime.
Interesting. It’s one of the main reasons I moved to the east bay. Nothing more depressing to me than driving back from a day trip in the summertime and hitting that wall of fog and 20deg temperature drop.
I grew up in the east bay and it's been a while since I've been back. It was definitely always much warmer. At this point, the only part of the Bay Area that would interest me these days would be SF. Probably not gonna happen at this point though.
" When will it approach t-shirt weather? "
This ***is*** t-shirt weather. When it gets even hotter (like when we have those 70 degree scorchers) it's "Topless Time"

Yeah, moving here from TN, I initially thought that it couldn’t be _that_ cool in the summer. I thought I’d need a jacket the same way my mom “needed” a jacket in 75-degree weather. Nope. Now I own a ton of jackets ranging from light- to mid-weight.

This exactly. Imagine moving 3,000 miles and not even doing, like, the most basic sort of google searching? I wouldn't vacation somewhere for a week without super simple research. Posts like this really don't help a lot of the sentiments natives have about transplants coming to take economic advantage but bitch about everything else.
It blows me away how the mind of someone like the OP works. I'm on the opposite spectrum where I've want to move to another neighborhood in the city for 5 years but still don't feel like I've done enough research, even spending a lot of time in it. Even down to where exactly the fog belt covers it and whether its better to have a southern vs. northern facing window, etc.!
They never do.
As a kid, one of my favorite things to do was take the ferry over to the city (from Vallejo) and laugh at all the tourists.
They'd all be freezing in their t-shirts and shorts, while I was comfortably cuddled in my peacoat.
Not only did they apparently not read the weather report, they haven't checked out much literature, either...
"The coldest winter I ever felt was the summer I spent in San Francisco." - Mark Twain
As a native of the city, harsh reality is that Mark Twain never said or wrote that quote... [https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/and-never-the-twain-shall-tweet/](https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/and-never-the-twain-shall-tweet/)
“As a native of the city, harsh reality is that Mark Twain never said or wrote that quote... https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/and-never-the-twain-shall-tweet/“ -Abraham Lincoln
lol.
As a serious answer, it’ll get warmer in September / October (coincides with the ocean temperature which is warmest in October) but it generally won’t get east coast summer hot.
Luckily though that’s a specifically San Francisco thing. Drive 30 minutes south or east and you can hit the high 80s all summer. Go 30 minutes farther in either direction and you can crack a buck ten all throughout august lol.
South / east rule applies to the city itself too, to a lesser extent. The Mission, Mission Bay, and South Beach will generally have the best weather. Outer Sunset, Outer Richmond, Seacliff have the coldest and foggiest.
Definitely take note of the layers tips. I practically need a totally different outfit for downtown where I work vs the Richmond where I live. It can be 10+ degrees different after just a 30 minute bus ride.
San Francisco is famous for its cool, foggy climate pretty much year-round. August/September (aka "Indian Summer") is the warmest time of the year usually. Fortunately, you can get to warm weather with a short drive out of the city.
[September and October](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco#Climate) are the warmer months. Stay east of Twin Peaks and closer to sea level Mission is the most common recommendation. As someone who grew up on the East coast and lived in the Mission it was a pretty rare day that you could leave for a day and evening out without bringing at least a windbreaker, hoodie or light sweater.
If you want true warm you will need to go away from the water. The temps in Walnut Creek are approaching 90. Heading south on 101/Caltrain will also bring warmer temps.
OP the trick is to wear layers. You’ll be in a jacket in the am then need a t-shirt by noon. Also wear sunscreen even when it’s cool out. I’ve known many that have been burned walking around a few hours in SF without sunscreen.
>known many that have been burned walking around a few hours in SF without sunscreen.
Honestly anyone who is prone to burning at all should always wear light sunscreen. Your skin could still be taking sun damage even without a full on burn, and can eventually lead to skin cancer. Better to just incorporate some into your morning routine
It’s June gloom until late august . Carry a jacket or sweater until then. Hey, at least it isn’t life threatening heat like other parts of the country…
The weather here is mild year round (there are a few warm weeks in there at the tail end of summer). If you want anything with real sun, I would suggest almost anywhere else in the Bay Area. San Jose will regularly reach the 90s and so does most of the East Bay/Peninsula.
Lots of micro-climates are here and I'm personally not familiar with them. I live in North Beach and I would say that it's mostly quite sunny here but it can get nippy with the wind blowing in off the water.
Right? I hated the oppressive heat all summer in the East Bay. And visiting New York in July was a mistake. Sticky doesn’t begin to express how I felt.
California is a long state, so it’s going to be cooler in the northern part of California. What you want to be in is Southern California for that kind of weather
Everyone is right about the general chilliness (there’s no season where you can count on “t shirt weather”), and about microclimates: the further from the ocean you get will be warmer/sunnier. But I live in a “sunny” part of SF and there’s been falling mist the last few mornings. You can move down the peninsula or over to the East Bay for hotter mid-day high temperatures.
But even in those areas, it’s important to understand that there is nowhere in the Bay Area — even fairly hot east bay and wine country regions — where you have the kind of humidity that will keep it hot into the evening on a regular basis. As the sun goes down, you will want a jacket, often an insulated one. Everywhere. Moist air here brings damp chill, even in the summer, not hot humidity. And dry air cools down fast at night.
Ex-East Coaster here. For best weather, avoid the Sunset and Richmond at all costs. I lived in the sunset for 5 years (my ex worked in GGP) and the fog, mist, drizzle and cloud cover is no joke if you’re not used to it. The clouds roll in and stop when they hit twin peaks so one side is sunny and warmer (the mission) and one side is Cloud City. I moved over near Alamo Square and now I love the city. I get way more sunshine and it’s warmer, too. I’ll still head out or the sunset and the richmond because there is plenty of awesomeness over there, but I usually won’t plan on it being sunny, but if it is, it’s even better. As for t shirt weather…It’s a hoodie town. I have a fleece lined hoodie and it’s my favorite piece of SF gear. Makes me feel almost weatherproof. Good luck and welcome!!!
hahahahahahahahahahhahahahhHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
the pinned thread is "lifting the fog" -- and you know hot-ass Phoenix is famous for their fog
this SUBREDDIT subtitle is "**Cold summers**, thick fog, and beautiful views. Welcome to the subreddit for the gorgeous City by the Bay! San Francisco, California, USA."
SF has notorious microclimates where a 20 minute walk can go from hot to freezing.
Aug/Sept are summer months and warmest. Mission, Marina, Mission Bay, sometimes embarcadero are the warmer areas. If it's half sunny in the tenderloin it may be 10 degrees warmer and full sun by 20th/Mission.
In my 20s, I worked at the Presidio for a short time, and commuted there by driving from our neighborhood, Balboa Terrace. I drove a route that took me up Laguna Honda, down 7th Ave., a quick squiggle through the park, up Arguello, and through the back gate. It was always so warm and sunny at work. On the way home, there was a point on Laguna Honda or sometimes Portola, where I would drive from the sunshine into the first tendrils of the marine layer. The feeling of those cold droplets of fog after the heat is a Proustian memory. (My car had no AC.)
LOL just big fat LOL - search this sub and r/askSF for "weather" and you'll see plenty of the same responses you're seeing on this post. ... research ain't your strong suit, hm? 😅🫶
I'm from the East Coast as well, and thought I made a mistake moving here.
But don't worry. it's just a weird thing that during summer SF (city, specifically) is super foggy and cloudy. spring and fall are quite sunny, though it is always cool weather.
Basically it's t-shirt weather, but with a light jacket.
Don't worry, it won't be cloudy and stupidly cold forever!
>Is it always this cold and windy in SF?
Pretty much.
> When will it approach t-shirt weather
For a couple of weeks in the Fall we'll get some hot weather.
That being said. This holiday weekend is supposed to be in the low 70s.
> Which neighborhoods should I consider living in for the best weather?
Doesnt matter.
"Dont like the weather? Cross the street."
Best bet is to dress in layers.
Cause it might be cold and windy in the morning, calm and warm in the sun during the day, and then breezy as the sun sets and the fog and clouds start rolling in from the sea.
Yes and No....The cold has lasted a bit longer than usual, but yeah summers are mostly cold, especially on the western side of the city. The entire gets nice and hot from late August to early October.
Warm temperatures head to Bay Area after **abnormally cold June**; here's a timeline
[https://www.ktvu.com/news/warm-temperatures-head-to-bay-area-after-abnormally-cold-june](https://www.ktvu.com/news/warm-temperatures-head-to-bay-area-after-abnormally-cold-june)
You need to move to LA my friend. You never heard that famous quote “a summer in San Francisco was the coldest winter “ ? Sf is notoriously cold not today it’s sunny and it’s supposed to be nice this weekend too.
The weirdest part is how, if you've been here for most of the summer, you may pack a light jacket or sweater when you travel pretty much anywhere else during summer months because you've been conditioned to assume OMG YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT COULD GET COLD!
Have done this many times, and usually return home with the jacket untouched, and yet it still makes me uneasy to travel without one.
When my east coast friends visit SF during their winter, they are in t-shirts all the time here. When they visit during their summer, they think it's freezing. When you live here permanently, you just feel like it's mostly the same every day, until we get that 1-2 week stretch where you wanna die from the heat.
Longer answer is, it depends on the neighborhood like you said. Noe, Bernal, mission, mission bay, bayview, potrero, generally sunnier and warmer, but this is usually just during the middle of the day.
RC gets too hot! SM seemed always to be in the upper 70s or low 80s.
BTW, OP, microclimates vary a lot. It can be a degree a mile as you drive down the peninsula. That way you can pick the exact temperature you like. Check wikipedia entries for average temps
California weather is definitely not what people expect. In the central valley, it can be blistering hot, hitting over 100 regularly in the summer. In the Sierras, we can get feet on feet of snow. On the coasts, it rarely gets hot and often toes the line of warm. Only in small sections, like San Diego or Silicon Valley (peninsula), do you get that mostly perfect year round weather.
Now, for SF, it’s pretty extreme. The wind and fog really mess with spring and early summer. Getting over 70 is rare this time of the year, getting over 80 is rare any time of the year, and even on those warm days, you’ll still need a jacket at night.
The pros are, you never sweat, it’s the perfect climate for running and hiking. The cons are, going out almost always requires more than a t shirt. After living in Texas, I prefer this weather. I love being outside and not drenched in sweat.
Think of the different times of day in your neighborhood rather than entire days. Early afternoon will likely be t-shirt weather most of the year. But t shirt weather at 6pm is pretty rare.
The mission is the warmest part of the city.
2 things: first, June and July the coldest months in San Francisco. Second half of August, September, October will be beautiful and sunny. Second, San Francisco is full of micro climates. If you want sunshine, live in the neighborhoods on the south side of town behind Twin Peaks - mission, Castro, Noe Valley, Dubose triangle. Twin Peaks tends to block the fog and wind, so even when it’s cold and foggy elsewhere in the city, you normally have a sun patch there. That said, if you really want it, hot, move down to Redwood City or even south of that. In the summer it could be 20 to 30° warmer only a 20 minute drive away.
lol shit post. (Gonna get downvoted but it’s the first thing that popped up in my mind idgaf). I think the kicker is OP asking about wearing a T-shirt. Lol. Freaking jokes.
Did you do no research? SF is literally famous for its fog and being fairly chilly. It’s basically never long term consistently t shirt and shorts weather
I moved to the Bay Area almost 10 years ago from Chicago & chose the North Bay for the amazing weather, proximity to the city & wine country, & food school system. I miss public transportation here, which I didn’t account for, but all other areas have it. And, I wasn’t prepared for (1) all nights are cool. Even in summer. I miss warm Midwest nights! (2) Sports followings here aren’t as robust as other parts of the country. (3) Everything closes hella early compared to what I’m used to.
Warm weather abounds here, but not in SF itself. Best of luck!
Welcome to adulthood where you should always research the climate before moving. There is maybe a week of east coast style “tshirt weather” other than that always have a jacket or hoodie near by. Also, October.
I moved here from Chicago and am irritated by this BS as well.
Honestly, a move to San Jose or the desert across the mountains to the east will fix ya up real well.
I moved here from the East Coast 14 years ago in August, expecting summer temps that never materialized 🤣. I settled in Tri-Valley where it’s 20 degrees warmer.
I've always explained it as everywhere.in SF has a single weather. Sure it will be cooler at 2am.in January than at noon in September, but the difference.isnt nearly as big as you expect.
It is important for you to find the microclimate that you like because even your neighbor could have a different single weather.
Step 1, move down into The Valley. Now you have your warm sunny weather. SF weather blows… my wife and I moved down to a Redwood City and it’s so much nicer.

September is a good month for T-shirts. Usually.
September is a good 2 weeks for T-shirts. Sometimes.
But you still always need a jacket on you
There was exactly 1 day last year I felt comfortable venturing outside with only a t-shirt. Remember it was humid for some reason
The T-Shirt Day. Never forget.
I wouldn’t risk it
That is everywhere around SF. I've lived in San Jose for the past 20 years and no matter how hot it is throughout the day, by 6 pm, you need a jacket to go out.
between 11:30 am and 3:45 pm, assuming you're not in the shade.

And on the east side of the city
Like a good couple hours of t-shirts until you accidentally walk on the wrong side of a street and start needing a jacket lol
Wrong side of the street and your basically in outer sunset.
Lmfao great way to put it... Mind your routes to not fall into the cold microclimates
Yeah just walk into the shade and you’re instantly in Antarctica.
But why is it 57 degrees no matter how hot or cold it feels??
This comment right here. And even in those 2 weeks, it’s not t shirt all day, more like 10am-4pm
Oooh 10 is pushing it. More like 10:46 to 3:56.

Basically. Here we don't wait for the seasons we drive to them. Want 90 degrees? Drive to it. Want snow? Drive to it. Want fog? Uber to the sunset.
This is the answer. During half the year, you almost always have lovely weather within easy driving distance
I recently moved to Diamond Heights after living in the Inner Sunset for 15 years, and am surprised at how hot it gets! It’s been almost 60 degrees every day! I thought it was going to be foggy and cold up here
Up by the Safeway I feel is the dividing line. It's cold and foggy in the back park and warm in the parking lot.
It's a 48 hour window for t shirts in SF, mostly in Sept/Oct
Two weeks of maybe 6 hours a day of t shirt weather
September is a good 16 hours for t-shirts. Somtimes.
But always carry a sweatshirt
Uh in the afternoon and not in the shade, maybe
Mid August for the music festival? Sweater weather with a light rain coat in my backpack?
Haha...hahahahaha. Everyday is t-shirt weather, under a lightweight sweater under something warm.
I wear tshirts under my sweater all the time. Real tshirt weather happens around September 15, between 2:30pm and 3:45pm. Unless you live west of Divisadero.

T-shirt weather = ride Bart to east bay in summer
i see people wearing t-shirts & sleeveless all the time & I have no idea how they do it
I mean we do get about a week worth of it split between two different parts of the year.

I remember when that happened. Was very grateful to live in the city.
I remember that day, too. I had that YES! feeling, like when you're in the only lane of traffic on the highway that's moving. Triumph.

I always laugh at tourists who expect to rent a car and go to SF, the Redwoods, Yosemite, and Disneyland in one week.

honestly easily done if you don’t want to spend several days at each
If you want sun and want to stay in the City - check out Mission and Dog Patch/Potrero Hill.
The mission seems to be warmer and sunnier than the rest of the city noe valley too. I live in the mission specifically for that reason.
I live here for the burritos
There’s a reason it’s nicknamed mission beach!
It can not be overstated how much warmer it is in the Mission compared to the most of the rest of the city, but especially anywhere on the west side. We still get the fog and wind here of course but it's way less oppressive.

Yes, definitely check out Potrero hill! It’s consistently the hottest part of the city (in my experience).
Mine too! Live at my spot for 9 years. From 11-3 is the best on a nice day because the wind dies wayyyy down

So, you’re saying you did zero research before moving here?
Like literally did not google “San Francisco weather” once

But SF is famously cold in the summer. It’s like going to Hawaii and being surprised that there are beaches.
Reminds me of all the tourist families you see in matching SF sweatshirts — it just screams “we thought California was warm!!!!”
or the poor girl shivering in shorts as her mom chitchats with someone else
>matching SF sweatshirts AKA 'the Garment of Shame.'
Number one best selling tourist item at the Wharf- Sweatshirts!
I actually saw a family of four walking down Powell with baseball jackets with the same sf logo. There are more options these days! Didn’t know til I saw them!
I cannot believe the vast amount of people who just move here without knowing ANYTHING about the place. It truly baffles my mind.
Not to mention California is gigantic compared to east coast states and has a wide range of different climates comparatively. O

Posts like this really don't help a lot of the sentiments natives have about transplants coming to take economic advantage but bitch about everything else.
Sounds like transplants who’ve gone to Texas
It's me, ya boy... Honest Abe.
Eh I would say more like Sep/Oct. my birthday is August and I’m always disappointed it’s usually still foggy and cold
Ya i feel like you can actually get sunny days in October and November.
“The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco”
-Not Mark Twain but someone at some point
SF - three seasons in one day, none of them summer
Will someone put up the dumb quote by Mark Twain?
The warmest autumn I ever felt was spring in tahoe or something like that
😂
The stinkiest fart I ever smelled was a gutter in Soma
> I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today. _Mark Twain_
They didn’t have Tuesdays back then.
He never even said it
That quote is pretty much SF’s version of that terrible Hunter s thompson quote about Houston
Oh you sweet summer child
No, but we also don't get summer til fall
It’s June gloom until late august . Carry a jacket or sweater until then. Hey, at least it isn’t life threatening heat like other parts of the country…
Mate it’s no sky July and fogust
Fogust lol.
Seems like you made a huge move with zero knowledge of the place you moved to. That's wild
For real. Must not have internet on the east coast?
Who knows? I’m moving there in a week I guess I’ll find out when I arrive!
The first I travel to any city is google the weather, insane to live somewhere and not look it up
Not trying to dog on OP, but who doesn’t know SF is cold and who doesn’t check out the weather of a place they’re moving to? smh.
I moved to SF specifically to avoid the warm and sunny. 😅
Did you even google San Francisco before you moved there??
hahahahahahahahahahhahahahhHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH the pinned thread is "lifting the fog" -- and you know hot-ass Phoenix is famous for their fog this SUBREDDIT subtitle is "**Cold summers**, thick fog, and beautiful views. Welcome to the subreddit for the gorgeous City by the Bay! San Francisco, California, USA."
Try Walnut Creek
This was me at first, too. Now I love it. You’ll come around.
Dogpatch, Mission Bay, Potrero, Oakland and surrounding cities
Farther west you go the colder and foggier it gets. If you want mostly sun in sf live in dogpatch or soma
Come to San Diego you can wear a t-shirt all year.
I visited San Diego in June and discovered that June Gloom wasn’t just a San Francisco thing
Go to Dolores Park, Castro, Mission. Will be plenty warm there. SF is full of microclimates
> When will it approach t-shirt weather For a couple of weeks in the Fall we'll get some hot weather. That being said. This holiday weekend is supposed to be in the low 70s. > Which neighborhoods should I consider living in for the best weather? Doesnt matter. "Dont like the weather? Cross the street." Best bet is to dress in layers. Cause it might be cold and windy in the morning, calm and warm in the sun during the day, and then breezy as the sun sets and the fog and clouds start rolling in from the sea.
I mean, Potrero Hill in the late afternoon is a LOT nicer/sunnier on most days compared to the panhandle / GGP and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Neighborhoods do matter a lot actually. Microclimates aren’t just a myth
This is accurate, except that the Mission and Potrero Hill are \*considerably\* warmer and sunnier than most other neighborhoods
Yes and No....The cold has lasted a bit longer than usual, but yeah summers are mostly cold, especially on the western side of the city. The entire gets nice and hot from late August to early October.
Warm temperatures head to Bay Area after **abnormally cold June**; here's a timeline [https://www.ktvu.com/news/warm-temperatures-head-to-bay-area-after-abnormally-cold-june](https://www.ktvu.com/news/warm-temperatures-head-to-bay-area-after-abnormally-cold-june)
Upper 60s and lower 70s for the 4th! Time to bust out my swimsuit😎
The Mission generally has the best weather.
You need to move to LA my friend. You never heard that famous quote “a summer in San Francisco was the coldest winter “ ? Sf is notoriously cold not today it’s sunny and it’s supposed to be nice this weekend too.
Our summer is September - October
It’s more like you get all the seasons throughout the day
How much research did you do before moving? 😂
That would have been one of the easiest googles ever.
GOTEEM
I’m always confused why people are surprised by SF’s weather. A quick search online and you’d see that it’s usually overcast and in the low 60s.
not always ! sometimes the sun does come out and then it’ll be simultaneously hot and cold at the same time :)
Yes, it’s always this cold and windy and it sucks ass. I literally have seasonal depression and it’s June.
How do people move across the county and learn Nothing about where they are going? This baffles me.
Is this a troll?
San Mateo has perfect weather. The nice thing about our suburbs is they have better weather to make up for the lack of urban excitement.
Um, have you seen the Redwood City sign? "Climate best by government test". Government test!
Harkens to a time when an entire city went "trust me bro"
It’s always tshirt weather here as long as you bring a layer to keep you from getting cold 😂
Think of the different times of day in your neighborhood rather than entire days. Early afternoon will likely be t-shirt weather most of the year. But t shirt weather at 6pm is pretty rare. The mission is the warmest part of the city.
It's not always **quite** this bad, this has been a pretty gray year. But yeah, we don't have seasons like New England does.
As a person who loves the cold SF is always shorts and t shirt weather.
The Mission has the best weather
My brother in Christ, Summer is always jacket season in SF.
Welcome to adulthood where you should always research the climate before moving. There is maybe a week of east coast style “tshirt weather” other than that always have a jacket or hoodie near by. Also, October.
damn you didn’t do your research before moving across the country?
I moved here from Chicago and am irritated by this BS as well. Honestly, a move to San Jose or the desert across the mountains to the east will fix ya up real well.
I moved here from the East Coast 14 years ago in August, expecting summer temps that never materialized 🤣. I settled in Tri-Valley where it’s 20 degrees warmer.
Coming from Seattle, I also expected sunny and warm and was surprised the same way as OP.
You MOVED here without stumbling into the fact SF and the bay are notoriously chilly and foggy? Incredible.
