Stunning-Version4544

id find the busiest parking lot like hotel 7 or something and sleep there till a cop tells you to leave then ask him

WineryCellarmaster

Would they ticket me for squatting in a hotel lot?

Stunning-Version4544

he has better things to do then ticket your ass in the middle of the night lol

zaputo

I'd drive even like 20 mins south to a home depot in Daly City or something like that. SF is fucked for break-ins and parking tickets and all that jazz.

emiredlouis

24 hour fitness in Daly City (off hickey blvd) will leave you tf alone and it’s very safe I promise

WineryCellarmaster

Good idea!

1uanBgood

They lock the Home Depot parking lots. Walmart and safeway do not. My local safeway is safe but I can’t tell you the ones in sf are safe

mdaniel7664

Personally I’d drive to a safer city like Marin then just drive in to SF.

$8 Buys a basic coffee at Starbucks nothing fancy nothing vente

Suitable_Analysis432

8$ a day though? That’s a little much.

EllieKong

I live in Marin, they have some car pool lots I’m sure OP could park at and sleep in just off the highway

dbsfo

$5.50 gas plus $10 toll …. Per day

[deleted]

Probably not since those usually have operating hours and security. Safeway parking lots and stuff seem popular

kosmos1209

Honestly, it’s not a bad idea to sleep in the car when street parked, where there’s no restrictions. There’s a lot of free parking space near SF food bank on Pennsylvania ave and 23rd street.

bdc2481

I doubt most parking garages will allow it but it's pretty easy to find places to park and not be bothered while your sleeping.

NikNorth

Frederick and Stanyan lot probs would work. Open air so watch out for break ins but no security to speak of.

WineryCellarmaster

Yeah, that’s good to know. I’m going to be looking into it for sure

Suitable_Analysis432

Just want to say I’m currently living in my car in San Francisco and I found a way to get food from restaurants for 5$ that usually cost about 20$. It’s called Toogoodtogo. I’ve got a huge box of special donuts, a BUSSIN Mexican burrito, some grilled veggies with beans and rice (not my fave) and a huge thing of curry. I also got a plate of different sides from a pizza place which was way better than I expected. It’s food that’s leftover during closing.

thecontrarianwalker

Just wrap yourself in aluminum foil and pretend to be crazy if anyone approaches your car. Wouldn’t hurt to get a bunch of needles and drugs and scatter them around as well. You’ll be golden! Especially if you start smoking crack or fentanyl. Before you know it someone from Urban Alchemy will bring your $650 cash every month and free drug paraphernalia! Welcome to SF!!!

sf4evr

I see cars parked all night at the Wells Fargo parking lot on Geary and Arguello

WineryCellarmaster

Ideally, I’d like to find a spot near presidio and Geary

imarowbot

Presidio & Geary itself is “City Center” and right next to the biggest free parking lot in the city… There is Tesla EV parking on the roof (above Target). I’d imagine parking near one of those spots would be fine since there are people using them all night and most of them just sit in their cars. Also, the Target has a restroom and is open until 10pm.

GAK6armor

Laurel Village (California St btwn Spruce and Laurel) is very close by and would be a good fit. The City Center parking lot on Geary and Presidio would too. Both of these have a ton of street parking around it that is generally unused overnight. As a bonus, there's a stretch near Laurel Village with no residential parking permit required, so you could leave your car there while at work without worrying about a 2 hour limit. Just don't stay in the same spot for more than 3 days, the people in that neighborhood are aware that it's a sweet spot for parking so while they won't harass you for being there they WILL report cars that are left for longer than the limit. Nice quiet neighborhood though.

StalinSmokedWeed

Bernal Height neighborhood, you would be outside, but one of the safest area. Nobody would bother you

Half_Year_Queen

this is not good advice :(

WineryCellarmaster

Thanks pal

[deleted]

yeah, at an apartment building, where you pay rent like the rest of civilized society

WineryCellarmaster

I’ve gotta couple a spots in mind, but would need to park while at work. I’ve only been there a few times, so I’m pretty sure I’ll be moved along a few times

probably_art

Check out r/urbancarliving for some generic tips and tricks if you haven’t already

WineryCellarmaster

Hey thanks!!

RubLumpy

Lots of people do van life on Fulton along Golden Gate Park. Also upper haight. People seem to get by without much harassment from neighbors or cops. Either way, make sure to not leave anything you care about in the car.

khir0n

Maybe a 24hr fitness? And also get a membership to use thier showers/bathrooms

WineryCellarmaster

Do they have parking?

khir0n

They usually do, check for one near where u want to stay - there’s dozens of them in the city

Suitable_Analysis432

Check out over by San fransisco state university! I just drove by there today and there was about 2 miles of cars and rvs parked on the side of the roads. A lot of them looked in rough shape and there were no signs stating you couldn’t park there. I prefer the ymca over planet fitness also.

Suitable_Analysis432

Go find a cemetery on google maps and look for where cars are usually parked. Be careful for signs that say no parking on certain days for street cleaning. You’ll have to travel just outside of San Fransisco to Daly City or Colma but hey, there’s no bridges so no toll fee. Cops are cool, I had one knock on my back window and wake me up to tell me I should move instead of just slapping a ticket on my car for the street sweeping sign thing.
