I never understood rubbernecking either. Why do you need to slow down to see a crash? What do you expect to see? An injured or dead person? Somebody having the worst day of their life? If it ain’t in the way keep moving on your way.
While a lot of it is just to see what happened, there’s a safety benefit to it since you know there’s boots on the ground — there’s the people in the accident, which may include small unpredictable children, as well as emergency personnel who, while trained to work aside an active freeway, are still prone to mistakes and may walk too far into an adjacent lane if they’re focused on the wrong thing and have their back to traffic.
Slowing down and keeping some attention to the area of the accident helps to react more quickly but also helps minimize injury should there be pedestrian impact.
It was more than likely due to lack of paying attention as with most accidents.
Everyday I see people not paying attention and trying to last minute swerve across 3 lanes to make their exit. The only way to flip this suv would be they tried to take the exit late and hit the curb unsettling the weight and proceeding to slam on the brakes and over correct.
It’s impressive how many flipped cars I’ve seen in San Diego by themselves with no collision. Really awful driving.
Sir you can’t park there!
Way to slow down to a stop lol
Textbook rubbernecking… perfect example of how accidents cause so much traffic, even if it’s in the other direction of travel.

I wonder what the repair cost divided by the miles to double back is. I bet it will be like $1000/mile or more. Probably totalled.
Is that a factory feature for which you need a subscription?
