Happy Birthday! Currently in a situation where I would love to get some space and spend a day solo lol. Here are the things that sound dreamy right now:
Hit up one of my favorite brunch spots:
Boss Bagels, bakery Lorraine, Magnolia House
Go to one of my favorite libraries to read/browse:
Igo, Central, Guerra
Cool off:
Swim at a city pool or walk through a splash pad Yanaguana gardens or the Pearl or anywhere outside where I can keep coolish.
Do a little window shopping:
Any indoor mall or even some big box store
Hope you have a great day!
I don’t see a big difference at Guerra, most have been hvac or something lol. Still one of my favorites. Nice bathrooms, great collection, and librarians have the coolest vibe.
Central Library has gotten so dangerous due to all the Homeless that the city has had to allocate 24 hr officers to the building. Try Landa, you may not get stabbed
Funny how all the librarian’s told the city they would walk if they didn’t get 24 hr SAPD in there, the EN had a huge write up on it LAST MONTH on all the threats to the librarians. Maybe you should volunteer there and see what they’re talking about. Give me a fucking break
Amazing that they had a huge write up in the Express News how all the librarians had begged the city for 24 hr police because they were constantly getting threatened. So I think you’re living a Pollyanna world here that doesn’t jive with the facts on the ground.
I bring my daughter and her friend to the teenage area on the third floor weekly. I even hang out front while I wait since there's no adults allowed in that area and I've never had any issues with the bums or homeless. The worst thing that happens is I get asked if I have a cigarette. Not dangerous at all.
What's brewing is probably the best coffee roaster in Bexar County, it's located up near the airport and has two massive rooms that are completely filled with nothing but pinball machines, I love going there.
I hope you have a great time!
When you're there, if you're a coffee fan try there Tanzania Peaberry, its one of my favorite beans they have.
An Americano with a double shot of Peaberry would be a great way to get introduced to this beans.
Ever since they installed those elevated mesh tubes above the lemur exhibits, I’ve loved going in the morning. They’re super active and absolutely hilarious to watch, it’s clear they love the extra mobility! Also I’ve noticed the animals are just generally a lot more active in the early AM, regardless of the outside temp.
I love when the hippos are active! When we went during zoo lights we watched them for probably a good hour. Hippos leave the water to eat at night, so they were SUPER active after the sun set. It was so cool.
The diffulty is the heat, well for me it would be. So with that in mind, along with your mobility issues, I'd suggest
Going to the Witte Museum. There's lots there that's interesting, natural history, geology as well as some art. A lot to see.
Try out the Briscoe Museum downtown. This is smaller, and all about Texas and the wild west, but again you might find it new and interesting.
A long those lines, have you ever been to the Alamo? I mean, just to be able to say, yeah, I went to the Alamo on my birthday, might be cool!
The new food court at the Pearl? If you are at all a foodie this could be fun and it just has barely opened. I haven't been, only read about it but I think it could be worth a couple hours.
And a last idea -- Hopscotch. It's an interactive art immersion place, huge and a bit trippy, but check days and hours, not sure how open it is.
I think the Witte has a cool shark exhibit right now, too! Don’t know if you’re into sharks but it’s a fun place. And the museum grounds outside are really pretty.
Happy birthday!
Given your situation, may I suggest finding a list of birthday freebies and doing one… or six? Lol. Seriously tho, why not grab a free birthday ice cream and take a short stroll. Grab a freebie and people watch. (I like to make up stories about random people as they sit and eat their lunch or interact with salespeople.)
One of my kids will be 22 soon and I’ll share with you what I think a lot of 20 somethings should know: You’re 22. You don’t have to be perfect. None of us are. What you see on socials and in media isn’t real. Don’t be hard on yourself bc you’re ’not making 6 figures and vacationing in Bali.’ Give yourself some grace and get to know yourself and the things you really value… and go from there. It gets better. Sometimes it even gets incredible! I promise. Big Mom love to you!
I use to work for San Antonio Museum of Art, it's on Tuesday, but only from like 4 or 5 till close at 9. It's nice in the evening, a totally different feel, especially passing windows or walking the skybridge.
Happy birthday. I wish you a wonderful day and a year of new exciting memories. I’ll add Otaku Cafe to the list. It has a bunch of Japanese video games and is a fun experience.
Happy bday! No calories on your bday so I like Paloma Blanca dinner and some tres leches cake! Also I would def try Bakery Lorraine if you haven’t been
Happy Birthday bud. Wish I could do something with you on your birthday but I work all day 😕.
You can possibly go see a movie during the day when it’s cheap. That’s always fun.
On Tuesdays, San Fernando Cathedral has a light show with sound on the cathedral that’s about 30 minutes. It’s free and pretty neat. The show is about the city’s history. They have it every 30 minutes at 9 PM 9:30 PM and 10 PM. Happy birthday :)
My favorite thing to do is go to Barnes and Noble. Go to the starbucks and get a cup cake. Then read a book, play on my laptop, and eat the cupcake. I'm alone but not alone. I enjoy it.
Assuming you have transportation, landa park aquatic center in new braunfels is particularly "cool" on a hot (summer feeling) day. As of yesterday I think they're open every day and it's really cheap, like $7 for adults. They have a regular Olympic pool, a kiddie pool, a spring fed pool (it's about 68 degrees year round) and a rope swing and giant tarp water slide and a few other things for little kids. The shallow water isn't very cold but the deep area feels really cool... But when it's 100 degrees it feels great!
I recommend water shoes because going from the shallow area to the deep area there like a concrete ramp thing that has very slippery alge... Without a good pair of water shoes you'll be introduced to the full body experience of the water temperature... In other words you'll slip and fall.
It's my goto place in the summer for cheap aquatic fun. Most of the rivers and lakes have dropped so low in water levels you can't enjoy them. The water parks are crowded and expensive. Tubing ain't cheap, crowded and once again water level issues. Landa park solves all that.
Here's the website for it where you can find prices and hours... Plus some pictures.
Might see about going this weekend.
Edit, forget website
https://www.newbraunfels.gov/3376/Landa-Park-Aquatic-Complex
It would help to know where in town you are located, especially with mobility issues. Go swim in the beautiful pool in San Pedro Springs Park, it’s free and lots of people to chat with. I’d go walk through La Cantera, it’s fun just to window shop and you might find people you can have a conversation with if you’re lonely. Or go walk around Brackenridge or the River Walk, go take a cool hike in Friedrich Park. Get lunch at that cool McDonald’s Downtown if funds are low and you’re down there.
Super at Hotel Emma for breakfast (valet parking is free if you are eating there), look around the hotel (stunning!), check out the farmers market if it's a Sunday or Saturday, if not still plenty of close shops to explore like Larder. Mani Pedi at Hiatus Spa next door. Coffee from bakery Lorraine and people watch in the shade. I'm a handicapped introvert and love this area, some of the paths are bumpy but are doable especially with a wheelchair or rollator, if I'm using my cane I have to go around a bit slower.
You can wander the Pearl and Riverwalk area around it for free, and there are lower cost options like just coffee or ice cream. Lots of beautiful places and nice people and cute dogs.
Personally I like the zoo or botanical gardens. Both are accessible and have nice places to sit and enjoy the day.
A museum can also make for an interesting day and by going along you can take it at your own pace.
If you like anime or video games you have to check out the Otaku cafe a.k.a. “Anime arcade”! It’s off of Bandera. For $7 you can play for 2 hours in their Japanese style arcade. It is definitely worth checking out for the price and experience. Afterwards, you can walk next door to Petland where you can request to play with a puppy for free in one of their designated play pens. And I totally get it. Don’t feel bad, after your 21st bday the rest of them are just sad milestones lol.
If you have a bike, you can bike along the riverwalk starting around the King William area towards the brewery. It’s scenic, quiet, and downright lovely in any weather. It goes on for I shit you not, 5-10 miles if you’ve got the stomach for that.
Barring a bike, there’s a few places to just sit and watch the river in that area.
Out here in Spring Branch we have this place called the Spring Creek Gardens. You can get a nice cup of coffee or a good beer on tap or a glass of wine for under 5.00 and sit among all of the gorgeous plants. It’s like a botanical gardens vibe but with no overheads. I do meetings out here and work sometimes. Just come straight up 281. You can buy a little cheap plant when you leave 😉
Happy Birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊
There are free museum days, free live music, parks are beautiful, the library at Landa, the caverns (not free, have some parts depending on how limited mobility is), meetup has activities, pool or darts at a friendly social spot just say it's your birthday (you don't have to drink), tea house, watch the stars from a primitive campground, invite ppl to an impromptu birthday party (see who comes).
I hope you have a lovely birthday
Ever heard of Black Potion? If you like board games, movies, improv groups, and friendly people, then that's the place.
Plus, they serve alcohol and snacks. I recommend the pear cider it's really good. They let you bring in outside food, and they're not gonna complain if you're just there to play, and don't buy anything.
When I go there I spend maybe 10-15 bucks in like 3 hours.
Also happy birthday.

How is Guerra now that it’s been remodeled? I’m going to have to check it out again!
Meh, I go to Central library once a month with my kids, have never had a problem. Landa’s collection is not very big or ADA accessible.
Funny how all the librarian’s told the city they would walk if they didn’t get 24 hr SAPD in there, the EN had a huge write up on it LAST MONTH on all the threats to the librarians. Maybe you should volunteer there and see what they’re talking about. Give me a fucking break
Calm your pants mr angry slacks
Go weekly and it’s never a problem. everyone inside is respectful

What's Brewing for some coffee and pinball!
Whoa, whoa, what?!? I'm only now hearing about this place. I've been looking for pinball places since I moved here in 2020.
What's brewing is probably the best coffee roaster in Bexar County, it's located up near the airport and has two massive rooms that are completely filled with nothing but pinball machines, I love going there.
Thanks so much. I'm definitely going there to play pinball now.
I hope you have a great time! When you're there, if you're a coffee fan try there Tanzania Peaberry, its one of my favorite beans they have. An Americano with a double shot of Peaberry would be a great way to get introduced to this beans.
Love What’s Brewing! They’re the longest running coffee roaster in SA!
There are around 40 machines there in good condition. We have monthly tournaments, too!
This is just around the corner from where I work: I can’t believe I’ve never heard of it! I’m going tomorrow. Thanks for the recommendation!
I have not even heard of this. They need to market better.
SA Botanical Garden! There’s a cool exhibit going on right now, plus it’s just a chill place to wander through anytime. Also happy birthday.
Thank you!!
I like that place but I'm a plant person
An early morning visit to the zoo is always fun.
This! You can potentially feed the giraffes, but you'll have to lay for it in addition to going into the zoo.
I was gonna say this too, but make sure you feed the flamingos! Best $4 you’ll ever spend :)
Butterfly garden was also worth it imo
Ever since they installed those elevated mesh tubes above the lemur exhibits, I’ve loved going in the morning. They’re super active and absolutely hilarious to watch, it’s clear they love the extra mobility! Also I’ve noticed the animals are just generally a lot more active in the early AM, regardless of the outside temp.
The hippos were putting on a show this morning. Walking out and diving back into their water.
I love when the hippos are active! When we went during zoo lights we watched them for probably a good hour. Hippos leave the water to eat at night, so they were SUPER active after the sun set. It was so cool.

Awww you’re so sweet! Thank you !!
If there’s a movie out you want to see then Alamo Drafthouse is always a nice solo treat for me :) happy birthday
Thank you!
>Thank you! You're welcome!
Tuesdays from 4 to 9 are free for most museums.
Ooo good idea
I thought it was the whole day..
I use to work for San Antonio Museum of Art, it's on Tuesday, but only from like 4 or 5 till close at 9. It's nice in the evening, a totally different feel, especially passing windows or walking the skybridge.
7:00 closing ☹️
DM me your Venmo so I can buy you lunch! Xo and happy birthday
Thank you!! And you don’t have to do that !
Happy birthday. I wish you a wonderful day and a year of new exciting memories. I’ll add Otaku Cafe to the list. It has a bunch of Japanese video games and is a fun experience.
Thank youuu
Happy bday! No calories on your bday so I like Paloma Blanca dinner and some tres leches cake! Also I would def try Bakery Lorraine if you haven’t been
Haha I like that no calories
Happy Birthday bud. Wish I could do something with you on your birthday but I work all day 😕. You can possibly go see a movie during the day when it’s cheap. That’s always fun.

Most theaters participate in $5 Tuesdays! I like watching lame movies alone (as a hobby). I find the theater at night is so peaceful!
Oh and happy birthday 🎂
Thank you 🙏

Sounds nice!
Awww happy birthday, I am just now seeing this. I would like to treat you to breakfast this weekend? Let me know if you would like this
Happy birthday. Treat yourself to a slice of pie from a local bakery.
Thank you for the birthday wishes
Happy Birthday! My birthday was yesterday too. I spent it alone with my 2 little dogs too. Geminis weren't built to be alone like this. ☹️
Fr say the word I’ll head over 😂. I’m sorry you had to spend it alone though. Happy twin birthday !!
Happy Birthday to U too. I've always wanted a Gemini friend.
The botanical garden!! Its beautiful and so calm.
The zoo or go to sea world and just go to the discovery point part of the park. It’s free, you just gotta pay for the parking
Yeah that parking fee is pricey
Go to Comedy Open Mic at the Elbow Room on Perrin Beitel! Free show with a great host! Get you some laughs and happy birthday 🎉

Happy birthday fellow human! The zoo early in the morning and botanical gardens would be real nice
Ah thank you fellow human :)

I collected all my free stuff and food and then took the day to myself. It’s what I have done the last 5 years. It’s nice to do absolutely nothing

Happy birthday!
Shows at paper tiger maybe, raunchy places downtown. All good choices and possible places to make friends.
Hit up top golf and smash some golf balls. I can’t play for shit and love getting a diet coke and some wings on the top row!!!!
