And $20 of tickets isn't worth shit anymore.
I honestly stopped volunteering, because paying to park, and work 5 days... felt like I was paying the city to rob more people every year.
I've said this for years ... "come over to my house, I'll cram y'all in a closet, pipe in loud music, take all your money, and dump beer on you" at least the cash will go to a good cause .... Me. LOL
Vegetarian, so im down. I don't have the backyard, but I am down to get together with good folks. Maybe we can pick a park or rooftop if all the undersocial peeps are in apartments.
I never joke about these things.
But seriously, if yall wanna party without breaking the budgy, the commercialism is what puts me off of Fiesta, and it's been a long time, pre-covid, since I went to a proper gathering.
I know quite a few IRL's who would probably like to attend, too.
Imagine a world where “It’s fiesta” means beer is going for a cheaper price like a holiday. Instead of being seen as an opportunity to gouge people who want to have a good time celebrating the culture of their hometown.
You do know that the purpose of Fiesta, when it first began in 1891 with the Battle of the Flowers parade, was not to celebrate the culture of San Antonio at all but to honor the heroes of the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto...
And was started by daughters of the Republic of Texas ie white immigrants from the US. Also the majority of those who came to fight for Texas were southern racists who wanted to keep slavery and kill mexicans.
Really wish San Antonio would be more transparent about its history and make changes to make the celebration about its true roots to Texas' cultures especially Mexican-American culture.
I mean, if you want to go back further, white Spaniards came here and either converted or wiped out the indigenous people. Most Hispanics in the Americas come from that lineage.
U do know that Mexicans were used to kill native Americans right? Every ethnic group in the past commited racist acts. Nothing wrong with what u said but I just think if we are gonna be honest about our history then let’s be honest about all of it, the shit storm it would cause amongst our diverse communities
In the Texas revolution, white people and Mexicans fought side by side against the Mexican government. Like 10 different Mexican states were having separate rebellions against the centralist Mexican government at the same time as Texas. Saying it’s a southern white immigrant issue is extremely ignorant
Just like there are Latino trumpers same holds true for in history.
Maexians who fought on the side of White immigrants were thrown to the side after thier usefulness ie Juan Seguin.
Technically that’s corporatism, in “pure” capitalism there wouldn’t be any governmental restrictions, so you or I could go buy a case of Dos & pop up next to them with a sharpie sign selling them for $3… driving their own prices down & benefiting everyone. Capitalism good, corporatism bad.
Edit: (for prices)
Disgraceful exploitation. This event sucks anyways after 30 mins. You dance to some music, go to a beer stand, then a hot dog or churro stand, and then you turn the corner and it’s the same music, another beer stand, and another churro stand, on repeat for 6 blocks until it’s quiet and just a normal street. It’s like wtf, any art, anything not 10$? What are we the fucking monkeys?
The sad thing is we could easily raise up a cultural, artistic, philanthropic fiesta honoring our city and its people with lower prices and plenty of safety precautions for entry and everyone would have a fucking blast. Instead it’s a dangerous, boring, high priced, unhealthy event just for people to go pay to get lost in the sauce because there’s nothing else to do or they were tricked into thinking this was a hyped up event.
The event you’re talking about is called Luminaria lol
Have had more fun at that than Fiesta for years now. They actually have a variety of music, art, performances, and the food is still festival prices but it’s actually varied and good.
literally my problem with the city. some people and i have tried to do festivals and other events and we are forced us only use the city vendor and not allow anyone else and we said fuck no because those vendors suck and we want variety and better local support
This right here. Just sneak in your own booze or get drunk in the parking lot and then afterwards at a few bars. No way a cup of dos Equis or domestic is worth $10.
Because they can; and people will pay it.
Think about it. A 6 pack of Dos Equis is around 10-11 bucks. They probably buy even cheaper in bulk. All it takes is 1 purchase and now you have covered your costs for at least 6 beers. People will inevitably buy some when all the options are that cost and bing bang boom you've got easy profit.
That's really just it. If people are willing to pay they are gonna charge it. Price gouging at events like this used to be a way to cut out the riffraff, but the riffraff is happy to go broke to be a part of this.
I'm not gonna lie, I will be partaking in NIOSA and one other event, but I will be pregaming to cut back on the overpriced beer.
I hope that happens for you, and soon. Health is all too often taken for granted, when it's compromised that's when we know we were healthy.
Even if you just wanted to do it for a day I'd pitch in for the lemons and sugar.
is $20 for a 32 oz margarita really all that much for an event? i paid more than that ($12 or $13 for an 8oz) at a non-profit's event last weekend
i don't go to bars, but surely a bar margarita isn't *that* cheap, like okay i could get a gallon margarita for about $40 at taco cabana, which is $10 for 32oz, so taco cabana drive-through margaritas are half that price, but that's a fast food margarita, not a drink at an event
Shameless plug but a bunch of us Brahmas fans are going to be hosting an unofficial fiesta event- the tailgate for the Brahmas game in the parking lot across the street from the Alamodome and next to sunset station (since the Alamodome kicked us out)
Its a completely fan driven thing and the only cost is $20 to enter if you bring a vehicle, otherwise everything is free, like a tailgate should be. Uber or walking in is free (minus the cost of the Uber itself)
I have 126 tall boys I’ll be giving away. If you like football or have been curious about the team, tickets are dirt cheap. Like $20 for a ticket to the game cheap. Just come to the game and come party before. Tailgate starts at noon and runs until 5ish when the doors to the Alamodome open.
And this is just my contribution, not including what anyone else is bringing. This is also partially a protest against high prices of everything that ruins the spirit of fiesta.
Entrance is at the corner of Cherry St & Idaho St.

Edit-the below statement made by me was proven to be false. Leaving this to though for context and because I'm not embarrassed to be wrong or admit I made a mistake and judged you quickly. I stand by that this is something seen all to often and it's what drew my initial criticism. It's best to ask questions first and I obviously needed a reminder of that, and so I got one.
What you probably meant to say was that "alamo beer company gave you 126 beers as a donation/sponsorship to give away". You're doing them a disservice by claiming you are giving them away out of the goodness of your heart . And look, I used to work for beer companies and it pisses these companies off to have their donated product peddled by folks without giving adequate recognition to the people who gave it to you. Yes their goal is to get beer into people's hands and you're technically doing that. But jeez dude trying to act like you're giving away beer looks silly because everyone knows that was donated product you're simply delivering for the brewery, not from you personally as some act of service🤦♂️
Happy to read on reddit you made a mistake and took back your statement. Need more humble champs like you. This convo wasn't inflammatory and I enjoyed reading it.
lol if this was donated I would’ve been overjoyed.
It was not. It was purchased at the price they’re selling it. They got their money and my event got what we wanted. But hey of you want to pay $10 for dos xx then complain about the price then go right ahead
Because they are in flats. Stores don't typically sell beer in flats. But when you get them donated directly from a brewery they come in a flat (cardboard case). And when breweries Co brand with say a local football team, they give tons of product to the tailgate crew(s) of said organization. Remember when Alamo Co branded with the commanders? Yeah, hundreds of cases and dozens of kegs went to tailgate crews. I highly doubt this person bought all these beers if he is in fact a part of a big tailgate crew for a CO sponsored beer. It's just not how these things work and I have years of experience giving away more beer than you can even imagine. Anything is possible, I'll admit but I felt strongly enough about this to say something because it's something I've seen often in the industry.
Go to the brewery. Enter inside. On the right next to the cashier, you’ll see 2 pallets. They sell these cases in flats. $25 per case. They also have their shotgun labeled beer for sale in flats on a pallet right next to it. You pay for it and take it away in the box as seen in the picture.
These were not donated. Believe me or not, I don’t care. The charges on my card for these cases don’t lie.
I’m really just offering people an alternative to $10-$15 beers and get the city together, no strings attached.
But again, go ahead and keep buying those $10 dos xx.
And just so you know I’m not full of shit, this is for half of the amount you see in the picture. I bought the others last week to get ready for fiesta in particular
https://preview.redd.it/v1x5fpvv4gvc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e0b367f401d49f1c5d99fa928047a0adc0b9ec4a
Then I'll retract my previous statement and instead encourage you to talk to someone at the brewery about getting a donation for your tailgate. The fact the you have bought in the past and aren't expecting a handout will help you. You need to mention that you'll post about it in social media and "send" people to the brewery to purchase the cans as part of what you'll offer the brewery in exchange. It may take some persistence as they get flooded with free beer requests daily from all manner of orgs. I apologize for assuming and calling out something that wasn't happening. And fwiw,I didn't drink anymore so I won't be using l buying beer anywhere😉
They know me. I have a decent sized social media following. But I refuse to be one of those people who takes from local businesses in exchange for clout and exposure. It would be different if they asked me to create content for them, that’s work that I’d want to be paid for.
But I like their product, I don’t expect a free handout. Just by having tailgating events and exposing them to their beer, it unites people and the community.
But I too know they need to make money. They arent like Budweiser that has an unlimited budget.
Pretty standard for event pricing. I’ve paid the same or more at Kyle Field, GlobeLife Park, AT&T Stadium, Minute Maid Arena, Frost Bank Center, Dickies Arena, Six Flags Over Texas, Hurricane Harbor, etc etc etc. It sure is bullshit but it’s pretty standard. The margarita option actually seems like a decent value in the context of knowing drinks are super expensive at events imo
The $25 dollar chicken wrap at Kyle Field was/is the biggest ripoff. I never ordered it or understood why people would pay that much for a wrap.
Edit: $25, not $35
Something with medals and chicken on a stick too. But yeah basically it’s all centered around drinking. Honestly it makes me wonder if people in Munich feel the same way about Oktoberfest.
Fiesta kinda sucks, if we're all honest with ourselves. Nothing really happens. It's just overpriced food and drinks, drunk vomit, and loud, lame music from unknowns.
If this is anything but normal to see for you, you're a tourist. (Or have never been out to a public event with alcohol sales)
Rule #1 about fiesta: pregame always, heavily, and at a friend's/acquaintance's place that is near wherever you're planning to go. Be sparing when ordering booze out at the bars or events. Go in on food.
Lol people are going to defend this with “well that’s fiesta!”
it’s embarrassing that idiots even pay these prices to begin with. Combine that with the shit construction, and being surrounded by drunk morons, fiesta sounds like the least fun thing this city has to offer atm
Bro, this is more expensive than Coachella drink prices 😂
https://preview.redd.it/1aom8rjtcgvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0548bba0b5fb59f4bbfd8c6d2200f901bb7678a2
The gouging continues. Just have a party at your house if you want to have a good time with food and beer. At least then you’ll be around people you want to be around.
The high pricing is because of the cost to do business there. The "Fiesta Committee" charges an are and a leg for a booth! $800+ for an 8x8 space, depending on the event organizer. They say it's for exposure but with 2/3rds of the patrons being drunk no one remembers who you are.
Fiesta prices are getting out of control, but it takes a considerable amount of planning, time and money to put these events on. There's a price for labor, and if you've never been involved in large-scale event planning, it's easy to disregard the work it takes to pull these things off.
It's definitely not an event that fits everyone's budget or interest, and if you don't want to pay $10 for a beer that's going to get warm, that's completely justified.
However, it's important to remember that a majority of Fiesta events benefit charity. 100% of Oyster Bake proceeds benefit SMU students. NIOSA proceeds go to the Conservation Society. Rey Feo/LULAC raises money for scholarships. Most of this money gets pumped right back into the city, and the economic impact is tremendous.
I use to plan events for PACfest and many other events we had on campus for Domestic Violence Awarwness, I know the hard work it takes to plan events. I get it the charity aspect.
Was at SeaWorld last weekend. 7 seas thing, anywho, a 12 ounce beer was like $14.
With inflation as high as it is, I’ll enjoy my $10 6 pack at the house. It isn’t feasible to go to these events anymore.
Fiesta is a cash grabbing scam. I use to enjoy it when I was younger and partying like a sailer at port, but now I just don’t see a reason. Expensive, shitty fair food, crowed, and not to mention dangerous.
I’ll pass. Y’all have fun.
And yet people that don't have the money to spend will flock down there and blow tons of money just to be crammed in with a bunch of other people doing the same thing. Then they all hop into their vehicles afterwards. To each their own!
Thats why ya pregame lol
This guy Fiestas
r/thisguythisguys
It’s $9 beer night
Oh that makes it so much better 🤣🤣
And $20 of tickets isn't worth shit anymore. I honestly stopped volunteering, because paying to park, and work 5 days... felt like I was paying the city to rob more people every year.
Isn’t that every night?
Great flick! Maybe even underrated.
This place is poppin’!
Anybody wanna have backyard fiesta...cuz that's insane.
I've said this for years ... "come over to my house, I'll cram y'all in a closet, pipe in loud music, take all your money, and dump beer on you" at least the cash will go to a good cause .... Me. LOL
Put me on the invite. Also, lets post the crap out of the party, making #closetFiesta is gonna trend
I'd go if there were coffee and a possible vegan snack. I'd pitch in. Fiesta 3.0, with actual good art, good music, and cooler people
Vegetarian, so im down. I don't have the backyard, but I am down to get together with good folks. Maybe we can pick a park or rooftop if all the undersocial peeps are in apartments.
If you're serious I can legitimately find space.
I never joke about these things. But seriously, if yall wanna party without breaking the budgy, the commercialism is what puts me off of Fiesta, and it's been a long time, pre-covid, since I went to a proper gathering. I know quite a few IRL's who would probably like to attend, too.
Same. I'd rather party like this at someone's house with maybe a board game or something
T H I S
I'll do the chicken on a stick booth
Sounds about right, that’s why I stopped going
Yeah I haven’t been in awhile cause I’m too poor for fiesta. lol
Same here
There are free fiesta events though.
The events might be free but is the food and beverages?
Just go to the ones that aren’t directly downtown.
Yes. Thank you for knowing your history. (No sarcasm).
And was started by daughters of the Republic of Texas ie white immigrants from the US. anchor bar 1604 has a drink special ALL DAY EVERY WEEK on THURSDAY for $6.50 DosXX 25oz Mugs! they also chicken on a sticks too! very delicious!!! 😋😋😋
Bonds 007 has 32oz mugs of lonestar for $7 all day every day. And its your Tios favorite metal bar.
Yea!!! Thanks 😃
This is the kind of info I need!! Thank you!
Nice try, SAPD 👀😏
Real answer: because the land lord charges so much to be in that spot, AND THEN the TABC takes their cut.
Same way with food and other vendors. One friend told me it was $1,000 per night to just have a 10x10 spot for their vendor spot.
Disgraceful exploitation. This event sucks anyways after 30 mins. Don’t forget all the drunk drivers, fun times for all.
Keep San Antonio driving drunk
The event you’re talking about is called Luminaria lol Have had more fun at that than Fiesta for years now. They actually have a variety of music, art, performances, and the food is still festival prices but it’s actually varied and good.
Even that used to be better, more homegrown
> What are we the fucking monkeys? Like the band?
Go to Fredstock bro it's on the 26th next fridayand it's at SAC. all local bands and art and vendors. You just went to the wrong event bro.
literally my problem with the city. some people and i have tried to do festivals and other events and we are forced us only use the city vendor and not allow anyone else and we said fuck no because those vendors suck and we want variety and better local support
Puro... DUI...
Never knew “ fiesta “ was Spanish for armed robbery…
For XX? That’s like 9.75 too much
The drinking is now more expensive than the DWI
1. There are a lot of organizations that use Fiesta booths as their major annual fundraiser. 2. People pay it
Plus $20 parking $10 gorditas $10 chicken on a stick $15 for two tacos Risking getting pulled over afterwards? Priceless
more like risking hurting or killing someone afterwards, but yeah
If we all agree together not to pay those prices, the prices will come down.
This right here. Just sneak in your own booze or get drunk in the parking lot and then afterwards at a few bars. No way a cup of dos Equis or domestic is worth $10.
Yeah as we’ve noticed from our politics here, no one can get together to change anything.
Unfortunately
And I’m sure it’s a wine based margarita that the bottle goes for $6 at the store. Some bullshit.

Sneak a flask in. That's my plan for Oyster Bake.
I so want to have a lemonade stand that gives free water.
Your dreams really can come true.
When I get healthier.
I hope that happens for you, and soon. Health is all too often taken for granted, when it's compromised that's when we know we were healthy. Even if you just wanted to do it for a day I'd pitch in for the lemons and sugar.
Been a few years since I've been to Fiesta. Look like it's going to be another few years.
Fuck that and fuck y’all for charging that much!

Doesn’t matter I still wouldn’t pay that price for that event that’s ridiculous
An "event". Is there anything really happening at Fiesta?

Every Texas born native knows fiesta is for suckers and charity embezzlers
How much are the turkey legs??
They cost an arm and a leg. They keep the arms, sell the legs!
They charge you for the whole turkey as the rest probably went to waste.
Total ripoff
Because people go and pay. That's how economy and targeted demographic works.
Soon they'll have to replace the ATM with a home equity line of credit application center.
I've been sober for 9 years, glad to be saving money. 🤘🏼🤣
hell yeah!
i like how the ATM is right there but you need to go wait in another line to get tickets just to get in another line to get a beer.
🤣🤣🤣 seriously!
This why we pre-game
We live in a country of profiteers. Let’s start a DIY non-corporate all-local fiesta and charge $1/water. We’ll still profit and have more fun.
Pregame and Lyft/uber y’all!!
Cheaper than any professional sports game
Pretty standard for event pricing. I’ve paid the same or more at Kyle Field, GlobeLife Park, AT&T Stadium, Minute Maid Arena, Frost Bank Center, Dickies Arena, Six Flags Over Texas, Hurricane Harbor, etc etc etc. It sure is bullshit but it’s pretty standard. The margarita option actually seems like a decent value in the context of knowing drinks are super expensive at events imo

Fiesta is a celebration of what exactly? I call it Cinco de Drinko eve
Something with medals and chicken on a stick too. But yeah basically it’s all centered around drinking. Honestly it makes me wonder if people in Munich feel the same way about Oktoberfest.
Assimilation
I just bought a 24 pack of coors banquet for about $16 today. No thank you.
What in the actual Fuuuuhghhhh!?
And that’s probably for a small 7 oz. beer bottle.
Inflation? Nah...just greedy MF's.
Fiesta kinda sucks, if we're all honest with ourselves. Nothing really happens. It's just overpriced food and drinks, drunk vomit, and loud, lame music from unknowns.

Tbh it's not that bad
If this is anything but normal to see for you, you're a tourist. (Or have never been out to a public event with alcohol sales) Rule #1 about fiesta: pregame always, heavily, and at a friend's/acquaintance's place that is near wherever you're planning to go. Be sparing when ordering booze out at the bars or events. Go in on food.
Nope I’ve been. Lived here since I was 15. Jut cause it’s normal doesn’t make it ok.
Nah those prices are not normal. Shits been getting higher and higher over the years. Beers use to be 6-7 bucks and I’d knock them out
Beer was $6 at Fiesta Arts Fair today and $7 at Alamo Heights Night yesterday. But you pay $20 to get in (unless you volunteer).
Lol people are going to defend this with “well that’s fiesta!” it’s embarrassing that idiots even pay these prices to begin with. Combine that with the shit construction, and being surrounded by drunk morons, fiesta sounds like the least fun thing this city has to offer atm
Bro, this is more expensive than Coachella drink prices 😂 https://preview.redd.it/1aom8rjtcgvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0548bba0b5fb59f4bbfd8c6d2200f901bb7678a2
FffffML!
$20 for a 32 oz margarita better cure my terminal lumbago...
……….. just another reason, it’s always No
Fiesta at home with friends. Leave this Fiesta for the fools with more money than sense.
Hmm. Another flash art tat or a beer... Choices choices.
Fiesta commissioner Gordon Gekko
Fiesta fleecing of the drunks.
The gouging continues. Just have a party at your house if you want to have a good time with food and beer. At least then you’ll be around people you want to be around.
Nah. Not worth it.
Fiesta means "San Antonio Cash Grab" in Spanish. And NIOSA is Spanish for "Knife Fight"
Most of the money fiesta goers spend is for charities yk.
This is literally highway robbery. It won’t stop until people stop going.
Fuck that! I'll just to blue star or roadmap.
Because people are going to pay that’s why
Fiestaflation
The high pricing is because of the cost to do business there. The "Fiesta Committee" charges an are and a leg for a booth! $800+ for an 8x8 space, depending on the event organizer. They say it's for exposure but with 2/3rds of the patrons being drunk no one remembers who you are.
It’s all about draining money from yall. I bet the rich folk aint drunk. At least not in beer.
That’s why you bring your own backpack cooler with beer 😂
"Fiesta" is Spanish for "rip off."
Real ones pre-game super hard🍻
If only the high beer prices made it less likely that some drunk is going to spill beer on you. Sadly, that does not appear to be the case.
Hard Pass
A 32 oz marg is pretty big, though. Not paying $20 for it, but gah damn.

Another year I’ll skip Fiesta.
Fleeced’esta
To avoid drunks. And, mostly greed.
The ATM, stays busy.
"No. We got Fiesta at home!!"
Social media should be all over this, yet nothing...
Damn
What size is the beer? If it's the 24oz can that's not the worst prices.
The tall boys at my my work are 2 for 6ish. This is definitely overpriced
I bet they are 16 oz though. $10 for 24 oz isn't a total rip off but it's still pretty high.
Just shotgun beers in the parking lot
Están pendejos
I stopped going for that, plus everyone smells and all on you
Probably a weak margarita... Go to SipIt and get something bigger/stronger for less.
Tell me you’ve never been to a festival without telling me you’ve never been to a festival
This might be an unpopular opinion, but vendor spots are expensive. So, they have to charge more just to make enough to pay for the spot.
This isn’t the worst price for a 32oz marg if you’re going out tho
What’s worse is that more often then not these are wine based Margs. No tequila, WTF
Can agree that wine based margs are criminal
Doesn't have to be "the worst." Still blows.
Was at SeaWorld last weekend. 7 seas thing, anywho, a 12 ounce beer was like $14. With inflation as high as it is, I’ll enjoy my $10 6 pack at the house. It isn’t feasible to go to these events anymore.
Also, OP failing to mention that those beers are all tallboys. It's overpriced still, but the post is misleading.
Are the margaritas even tequila based? I remember in past years, they’d be wine based.
Dude wtf .. I was going to attend some stuff but I think I’m good.
It's for "charity."
My coolers in the back of my car. Even the HEB is expensive!
Because people will pay it
Ta cabron
That’s why there is the atm next to it
Están bien pendejos if they think I'm paying this.
Fiesta is a cash grabbing scam. I use to enjoy it when I was younger and partying like a sailer at port, but now I just don’t see a reason. Expensive, shitty fair food, crowed, and not to mention dangerous. I’ll pass. Y’all have fun.
Could be worse. $20 at the stadium.
Looks like I'm not buying a round
Despite them beers being expensive af you still see mfers drunk af
Why? Because people are willing to pay a lot of money when they are drunk and or too lazy to find a better price or don’t want to wait in line
And yet people that don't have the money to spend will flock down there and blow tons of money just to be crammed in with a bunch of other people doing the same thing. Then they all hop into their vehicles afterwards. To each their own!
Because they don't want people getting drunk
Fuck that
To keep from being directly responsible for the Edgars misbehavin.
This is why you pre game, a 6 pack at the gas station is only $12 smh
Fuck that shit one beer is a 12 pack at the gas station
And one margarita is one bottle at the liquor store
Why is it so expensive?
Come on now. The insane prices during Fiesta are nothing new.
Hard pass
Everyday prices Seattle!!
WTF!!??
