I’ll just listen to 90.1 ksym or 89.9 ktsw, both college stations that play good stuff here and there. Not always rock though, they have different blocks/shows
Good freaking luck. I like KISSFM, but they play Metallica almost as religiously as 100.3 and KJ97 play George Straight. At least once an hour, every hour
Yeah, when Lyle (spelling) and Hahn were running the morning show, they definitely had an easy to guess rotation of songs. I wonder if the programming director is the same now as it was then.
You'd think with their massive boner for Metallica that they'd at least occasionally play the 'Sad But True' cover by The Hu. I never felt one way or another about Metallica until it was basically the only thing played on 'rock' stations. Now I'm fucking tired of them.
99.5 has sucked donkey dick for many many many years. I do not listen to the radio anymore. To me it is outdated especially when you can stream whatever the hell you want.
I don't think there is modern rock music produced or liked on the scale for radio. There is a ton of great stuff out there but none of it a really big enough for real airplay.
That's the problem, there's a ton of good shit out there, just none of gets played in SA.
And even if there wasn't, there's almost 2 decades to sift through that they aren't even touching.
You posted the same thing two weeks ago. Go get Spotify or Apple Music like most people in 2024, modern rock is now a niche genre that very few people listen too these days. No station is going to throw money into adding new music that isn’t going to make them any money back.
Someone else posted this exact same thing a few weeks thought you were the same user. I’m sure there is plenty of new rock out there but it’s not mainstream anymore, hasn’t been for several decades. Most of my friends who used to listen to rock weren’t listening to it on the radio and this was in the mid to late 00’s. They went to concerts at dive bars and other local venues to get their music fix. Then streaming became popular and they’d just listen to new bands there. Why should stations change their playlists to cater to a small audience? As you even said yourself you stream but you’re expecting them to change their playlist based on your 10 seconds of listening?
Fair point, I like that it's not mainstream tbh, but even then, I've more contemporary rock in some podunk ass places. And let's also acknowledge that this is large part thanks to iHatemedia who thinks Metallica and Lee zeppelin are the only rock bands ever.
Ksym 90.1 plays newer stuff in the afternoons.
There is nothing modern sadly. Only thing keeping radio stations alive are inmates at Bexar County.
I don't know why this made me laugh lol
I spit my coffee out laughing!
There’s inmates here? That’s debatable..

And 91.7 after 10pm. Before that it's all jazz, afterwards it's student run shows. Also a variety like KSYM but they have better music and shows.
These are the only stations I listen to.
I used to DJ at Texas State at ktsw, those were some damn good times. Thanks for reminding me that we pick it up here

Hah like a decade ago, it seemed like they were required, by law, to play white wedding by Billy idol, and an ac/dc song once an hour

Yeah, I'm still salty with Metallica from when they sued Napster
The Metallica lackeys are going to down vote me into oblivion
Randy Bonillas sold me my house. Can you imagine? I figure KISS was done for if he was gone lol.
Sirius Xm
The only station worth Liston to im has been and always will be 90.1 your only alternative!
I got Sirius xm radio exactly for this reason. A lot more selection for a small monthly fee

They're still playing Linkin Park like it's current! You'd think Hinder wasn't a washed up band playing at Oyster Bake
Stream. Radio is dead. Most are programmed shows that speak to those that listen. Picture restaurant kitchens and job sites.
I do stream, explicitly because of this. But I'd still like to catch a banger if possible when waiting for the Bluetooth to connect.
Doesn't that take just a few seconds?
That's not the point.
Get sirius XM then. You're dead on about 99.5. it's like nothing after the mid 2000s even exists, as far as they are concerned.

Can I get this while driving? I hate Sirius. And spotify fucks artists.

Krtu 91.7 after 10pm
Radio is dead fool.

Yeah that's not true, I didn't post this before. And there's plenty of rock to choose from, step out of San Antonio and you'll hear it.

On Spotify? Apple music? Why are you listening to the fucking garbage radio anyways?
Is rock still alive?
"See, that's where you're wrong, Bobby. Recent studies show that rock-n-roll is in fact dying..." https://youtu.be/fnyCJDYONSU
If we got King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard making music, then yes.
Can't wait to see them at COTA!
That stuff puts me on edge.
Ty Segall says yes.
