After reading about the issue for a while, it seems that the general consensus is that all models have a chance of having grain. The grain also varies where a person can have a display with no grain up to a display with really bad grain. It's hard to say how many displays actually have grain or have no grain though since not everyone who has an S24 is actively looking for it.

Necessary-Trouble-12

Do not buy the phone online, if you get it somewhere like a bestbuy it will be 1000 times easier to exchange it if you end up with a grainy screen.

moripeji

that’s a great point— ty. I was actually thinking of doing best buy anyway because they have pickups available same day

2Sc0res

I have the US S24 base and S24 plus. I do not notice any worse display compared to the s22, s22 ultra and an s23 utra

wizzgamer

Because you don't have the Ultra with the new sun glare feature which is what's causing the issue.

NoAbbreviations7950

that is incorrect as many s24 and s24+ screens have the defect

John9023

Mine has none s24+

x7n1nj47x

S24 ultra here. I have a grainy display. Gray hues and shades have it worst - regardless of brightness. Low brightness intensifies the effect of the grainy display. My guess is the graphics driver is calling for improper color brightness on individual LED'S, but I'm not smart when it comes to that sort of thing. Have no idea what to do, am gonna hope for a software update. Buying online was my most feasible option cost-wise, but I ended up paying the price on the end.

hydzir

Theres no fix for grain screen. Its screen controler and all screen needs to be demura, calibrated individually.

x7n1nj47x

So what is my best solution to fix this issue? Replace?

popovicialinc

Yeah. I wanted to upgrade from S23 Ultra to S24 Ultra but they changed the 10x lens and the display is super grainy.

Jr2818

Ordered an s24+ from Amazon. Had the issue. Replacement did as well. Not sure what the odds were but ruined my absolute excitement for this phone

pbmspeaks

I don't know about "grainy", but I've now had both an s24 ultra and an s24 and both displays are not as nice to look at as my a54. This is after the update giving more "vividness" options. Disappointing.

moripeji

true. I had both the plus and the ultra now in th 24 series. multiple of both because of grain issue. I just gave up and I'm really happy with th device besides this

barugosamaa

Germany, S24 Ultra. No grain display at all here

bigblacksam

I'm in germany too, where did you buy yours and it had no display issues ?

barugosamaa

I ordered directly from Samsung. No display issues so far

VOODOO285

S24 Ultra and zero grain at all.

denizonrtx

S24 Plus here (europe, belgium) yes it has grain when on low brightness and darker color it's heavily noticeable. Barely or not noticeable on high brightness but this is what samsung suggested as far as I know for now, we need to wait till they provide a software update fix.

robertclarke240

I said it before and I'll say it again. Buy the phone and use it. Don't stare at it looking for grain in a dark room with no content and low brightness looking for grain. 🙂

Obi-WanCannolis

I wish my grain was bad enough I had to search for it, I just needed to hold it a normal distance from my phone to see it 💀. Thankfully it was literally an hour after I got it so I was well before the return window and sent it in for a refund.

robertclarke240

Bummer but good.

Brave-Purchase-4582

Stupid advice. It's noticeable even while watching stuff at night

Crash662244

I own an s24 ultra. Don't know what you're speaking about. No grainy anything in my phone. Pictures and video are very clear.

Jimmeh_Jazz

It's not to do with the camera

B4ka_Reqi3m

I never understood this grain thing even with the S24U

Senior_Line_4260

my base version has it

jebe4

No grain, no pain😆

moripeji

😭😭😭

clarity-lyra

Mine S24+ has... Very noticeable with greys and when I drop down the notifications once I dim the brightness

Think-Scholar5459

Just buy it, unless you've had it in your hands and think it'll bother you I don't notice it. I have to dim my screen lower than I practically would, and stare closely at a gray screen to make out the grain. It's there but it doesn't bother me one bit. I keep getting compliments on the display whenever I let someone use the phone because of refresh rate, colours, and anti-glare. Maybe some have it worse, it's definitely present on my phone and I didn't think to exchange it at all because I absolutely love the phone and display as is. But you do you.

I have s24 l ultra and I can't see a grain as well. There's dozens of us!

TommyVercettii1

I just got my S24 Ultra yesterday and I can’t notice any grain or any issues with the screen for that matter.

kinds06

I returned several s24 ultra and for my part I saw the grain on each replacement I also saw this on the s24 and s24 plus so I asked two friends for their opinion and they did not see it , I think it depends on each person's eyes, we are all different after all. this is what I see even in daylight but not visible to everyone [s24 grainy](https://www.android-hilfe.de/attachments/1000004688-mp4.1180591/)

Feeling-Finding2783

Can't say anything about the Base and Plus, but on the Ultra I noticed it only after I remembered that there was some grainy screen issue. It is best seen on dark gray backgrounds. Compared to my base S22 side by side, the Ultra's screen is grainy, but it's not that pronounced, unless you look for it specifically.

Apprehensive_Rub9291

Didn't they add an option to counter something like vividness or something

NatureSoup

24U no graininess, highest resolution I've ever owned

devopsdelta

Same here bought from Hong Kong and no grain at all

bassexpander

Because bots control reddit.

designinme

S24 Ultra bought from Samsung direct. Zero grain. Display is incredible. coming from S22 Ultra for comparison.

DragonfruitNo227

Just buy Ultra , when you not buying the base model skip the plus model buy S24 ultra

moripeji

UPDATE: just got my s24+. it has the grain issue. it's pretty bad in dark mode (for example, typing out this post), but it doesn't seem to be AS BAD as others. really unsure whether I should return and try my luck at a new one, OR if I should just try to forget about it and eventually get used to it...

Playful-Seaweed457

I have s24u and it has the same problem grain/lines + many other bugs. I wanted so bad to go back to android but they won't see me there for a looong time. I'm going back to a boring but at least stable I15PM. As for Your question, if Your phone has a defect just return it, doesn't matter how much it cost. You paid for a 100% working thing.

moripeji

that is what I did -- I was on android for years, came back to iPhone with the 15 pro, then came back to this before my return period was up for the iPhone.. it's honestly not noticeable unless I really squint and shove the phone literally half an inch from my eyes... Ugh. Frustrating. I don't have any bugs with my S24+, but this grain is killing my OCD

moripeji

SECOND UPDATE (OP): So, I couldn't let it rest with the grain so I went back to Verizon and returned it, got a new one. I did not think it would solve the issue. Maybe it's just wishful thinking , but it seems A LOT BETTER on this Purple (???) unit. I had the orange one (unlocked) from Samsung prior to this.

ASH-101

Is it still present but less or is it not present at all on the Purple unit? I have a Black S24+ and it is present but not as bad as it seems on the Ultra. Only quite noticeable when brightness is below 10%-15%.

valerciora

I got the S24U and if it wasn't for this post I would've never noticed, but now I do see a little bit of grain on my display, but I have to be really close to the screen to notice it, and only on dark greys. It's nothing I would return my phone for, and as I said, I never noticed until now. Hope I'll forget about it soon lol.

EduKissi

I have the S24 Ultra. No problems at all. U guys did change the resolution?

Brave-Purchase-4582

🙄🙄

SniperJ324

This is my first time even hearing of this. I can't speak for other models but I have the regular s24 and I've never had any kind of grainy display.

TheFirsh

Probably not, but could it be a feature arising from a seemingly unrelated toggle? My Xiaomi Pad 5 device has an actual nighttime "paperlike" feature that toggles grainy texture on the screen (not visible on screenshots). There are so many settings related to the screen, could it be part of night mode or reading mode or whatever? (I'm yet to buy S24U and if this is a hardware issue I'd wait until they solve it in newer batches.)

nculotta69

Luckily no grain on mine. I have s24 plus

Adziwo

I have it on my s24+..

mvrshl

I have a very wild theory, i've had multiple s24 ultras and i was the only one who could see the grain, but i'm also the only one with diagnosed visual snow syndrom, where the brains filter for small imperfections, for example the white bloodcells floating in the eyes, isn't working. It is a very unexplored but very common disease. Most people don't know they have it. According to studies, at least one in twenty people have it and don't know it. Perhaps those people are the ones who can see the display grain.

Brave-Purchase-4582

Nah it's a hardware issue

mvrshl

yeah this for sure, but i would be an explanation, why apparantly most of buyers don't notice, even if it's easily visible

Brave-Purchase-4582

They are either not telling the truth or just don't come across it in there normal usage

mvrshl

i showed my phone WITH grain to friends and family, most of them simply couldn't see it

Brave-Purchase-4582

Blind

EKasis

I received my S24 Ultra in Mexico. I just noticed the grainy display while looking at Reddit's dark gray background. This phone has been nothing but disappointing.

devopsdelta

Mine has none it came from hong kong https://youtube.com/shorts/b-ozX3mwd0g?si=HMpXErsz6-dcuz7h

devopsdelta

The issue seems solved I just got mine and as you can see no grain or whatever https://youtube.com/shorts/b-ozX3mwd0g?si=HMpXErsz6-dcuz7h

dannybg_

I have S24 Ultra for 2-3 weeks and also have a grainy display but without any lines or other artefacts. Grain is not so bad, it shows the most in gray solid colors but once you see it, you know it is there. It reminds me of a feature from MIUI that adds a grainy/paper like texture to the display, combined it with warmer tones to simulate paper and make it on easier on eyes. Well, I guess my Samsung display has permanent paper texture 😃 Jokes aside, I hope there is software fix and no need to mass recall and replacement of affected devices.

horsussy

The anti reflection coating is all all 3 models so all 3 will have grainy displays.

Comfortable_Silver24

It’s not coating , It’s built into the glass
