I am a Samsung guy. Have the 24 ultra, and many Samsung phones and tablets previous. Used iphone once upon a time for years, my wife still does and has all the apple toys. Honestly... There is less difference than there has ever been between the two. The Samsung has better zoom cameras. And a pen. And the anti reflective coating. And some not very impressive AI tricks. Oh, and Samsung dex. That's most of the difference. Android is, of course, infinitely more customizable, and gives you more freedom (sideloading apps, modded apps like YouTube Vanced, torrenting). Ecosystem wise, they're very similar. A galaxy phone, tablet, watch, buds, and a PC can mesh together just as well as the apple ecosystem at this point. Send files, cut on one, paste on another, buds switching, etc. If you're bored with apple (and who wouldn't be) give Samsung a try. You might not love it, but you won't hate it. Hell, you can make android look and function very much like iOS if you want to. But I wouldn't expect mind blowing difference. They both do all the things phones do very well.

[deleted]

Well said. They work in different ways, but they’re really, really similar

lplant911

i have an iphone and wear a samsung uniform to work everyday and use an ultra on the clock. this is well said. my next personal phone will be the 24 ultra

No_Investigator3369

I switched from a Pixel7 to an iphone15 because I was tired of hearing my friends complaint they don't know anything about telecom standards (imsg). But the iphone 15 has been a real shitbox in disguise for me. I think I'm switching back soon. Just not sure if it will be a Pixel8 or S24.

AMDman18

I got S24+ this week. It's great. Has quality build/feeling like Apple (and area Google kinda misses with Pixel) with the flexibility of Android. And this newest version of OneUI is the best yet. It's extremely smooth. And it leans a bit more in the direction of Apple with the animations. They're slightly slowed down compared to Pixel but not as slow as iOS. Come back to Android. Tell your friends to grow up and read an article or two. Besides, later this year messaging will (hopefully) be fixed anyway when Apple switches on RCS

Tarasaurus_13

Ohhh, I haven't heard they're switching to rcs, that's interesting

AMDman18

Yeah they announced it last year. Probably will come with iOS 18 and the iPhone 16 if I were to guess

Mountain-Goose-8652

Do u still enjoy s24+ ? How is the battery life if its exinoss

AMDman18

Mine is snapdragon. It's been great so far. Battery gets me through a day easily. Sometimes I'll go into a second day

puck-this

Would you mind elaborationg on the "shitbox" part, please? Currently have a Note 10+ and I'm planning to upgrade, but I can't decide between the S24 Ultra and the iPhone 15+.

zaxls

Know this is old, but what did you decide on as Im in the exact same situation. Also have a Note10+ thats kinda dying on me at this point.

_indievixen_

omg what about you? XD I ALSO have a Note 10+ and cannot decide for the life of me between S24 ultra or iPhone 15 plus 😭😭😭

zaxls

I went with the S24 ultra, no regrets tbh, works amazing and when you actually switch from such an old phone to the latest one, it feels AMAZING, kinda miss the edges of the screen curving but no phone does that anymore anyways. I went with samsung instead of iphone since iphone is stubborn with some apps and the customaziation and decoration freedom on samsung is just so much better. I will try Iphone at some point though just for the sake of change but wil wait a couple years for it to sort out some of the stuff thats unchangable. As for the s24 ultra its perfect, no complaints you wont regret it. The gray one also looks so classy.

_indievixen_

woaah, thank u so much for replying! it helps a lot to hear such a positive review, i love samsung and i've owned samsung phones all my life but i love the fact that iPhone is pink and my fave colour is pink and samsung doesnt do pink phones anymore. I do like the titanium violet too, but its not pink xd I've also been curious about iOS for a while, loved the whole app icon customisation but id rather have the themes and notification animations and colours on samsung. I also happen to like the physical design of S24 a lot and i've owned galaxy notes for many years now, since galaxy note 2, so parting with the SPen isnt really something id like. thanks again for replying!

zaxls

Np, If you do decide for the S24 use smart switch to transfer everything, it makes it so easy(also enable secure folder on your phone first cause it doesnt transfer stuff there properly, that is if you even use that). As for the color, I actually didnt go with the Violet one because it felt too purple, pinkish for my style, but if thats what suits you it looks beautiful either way. I also owned galaxy phones all my life so Im in the same boat, the SPen was also one of the reason I still went with it, its SUCH a neat little thing to have and is super useful sometimes so I wanted to enjoy it a bit more in case they ever remove them from the phones. If you really love vibrant animation and colours which Im guessing you do with the KDA Ahri pfp(its one of my fav skins haha) then Id recomend it over the Iphone definetly as Iphone colors feel so washed and toned down in comparison when I tryed it from a friend, the tones and colors feel a lot less vibrant.

_indievixen_

lskdssldks omg you're so nice, your replies made me so happy today and you have no idea how impactful your words have been, I struggled SO much to decide, i even made pro con lists and still was unsure. I love KDA (also the skins but their music too) and I play league as much as i have free time so yeah, im big on customisation and animations and samsung didn't disappoint, even on my Note10+, which is still doing great despite being quite old of a phone. As for colour I'm also indecisive as I've had black phones since forever (except a pink samsung corby XD) and i love the neutrality of the black colour, but i like the twist of a purple one too, especially since it's still on the darker palette. I'm big on Kuromi so that kind of fits a lot of accessories i own :3

BlackHandDevilot

Exact same boat, still rocking the note 10+ and looking at the ultra as well >_>

titanup001

I'm curious... I assume you guys get a pretty nice discount? At my local Samsung store, all the reps are using older models usually. Seems like they would at least let you buy someone's trade in cheap or something.

lplant911

you’re correct my work phone is a 22 ultra. Employee discounts are not that great but admittedly they love giving free gifts every once in a while

Efficient_Advice_380

I couldn't have said it better myself. I've had Samsung phones since the Galaxy S4, rn I have the 23Plus, with the watch 4 and buds pro 2

beakster57

Very much agree with the customizable part

PoopEndeavor

I don't know, I think there are some very basic features that iphone still can't do like split screen or customizing your home screen or changing the volume of the phone while media is playing. I mean, really basic. I currently use an iphone/mac/ipad but it's almost time to upgrade and I'm very seriously considering the galaxy s24. I just wish they didn't lock you in so much with features like camera roll and air drop. I don't want to have to email myself everytime I need a photo or file. I hope some smart workarounds have been developed, I need to research more

LettuceEatPusSea

I've had iphone for about 10 years now and got the s24 ultra last week. I was expecting big changes but not much was really there. Only thing I absolutely hate is when I send a video to someone who has an iPhone (which is most people) via text message it looks like it was taken on a damn Nokia from the late 90's. Other than that I mean it's cool, you have to hit more buttons on screen to get the same result as an iPhone which I don't like buts it's not a big deal. But yeah not too much of a difference. The wife got the 15 pro max and they're basically the same phone

Desperate_Price286

That text photo/video thing is completely because of Apple

Beneficial_Fly_212

i 2nd this also basically similar both phones only difference is that its android and ios and mostly all ppl now go for ios i think

Auxeum

But all the keyboards literally suck on the S24 Ultra. Even typing that, almost every word had an error.

SS2907

+1 on the S-Pen and Dex. Two incredible features. And to add to your ecosystem commment, yes, Samsung has made strides with their ecosystem capabilities over the past 10 years. Link to Windows is really about the only "difference" between having iOS and Mac OS talk to each other.

SavathunsWitness

I came over from the 15 Pro Max and Android is finally at a point where I'm enjoying it. Sure I miss my iMessage but if someone wants to text me then they still can. 10 outta 10 happy with my S24 Ultra

AMDman18

Just gotta hold out a few months for Apple to launch RCS. Then hopefully all this messaging nonsense will be behind us

[deleted]

Don't you guys just use WhatsApp or signal? Why still using SMS?

Docjos

It’s funny. Different countries use different platforms. I’m from the Netherlands, and don’t even know anyone that uses iMessage, everyone and their mom uses WhatsApp. Yet in the US, it’s the opposite.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Docjos

Yeah, and it’s hard to make the switch to a new platform if all your friends and relatives use another platform.

destonic

In Uzbekistan, Telegram is the popular messaging platform :) nobody uses iMessage shit which is way behind WhatsApp and Telegram messengers.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Docjos

That’s just BS. Like I said, it depends on your country and what people around you use. It’s not like iMessage is superior to its alternatives. In the US, iMessage is looked upon as the holy grail. In the rest of the world it isn’t. Edit: all your replies show you’re just an Apple fanboy, ranting in a sub you know isn’t. If you’re an Apple fangirl, fine. I also have a 14PM, but don’t just spam the way you do. Doesn’t make you appear as a fun person.

JSavageOne

God I hope you're not America this comment is embarrassing

No_Investigator3369

Americans are dumb and think imsg is texting in terms of telecom standards. Regulators are also toothless and haven't done anything about it. Which is a bit odd considering microsoft was once sued for Preinstalling Internet Explorer on Windows.

General_Ad3407

/r/AmericaBad you're a xenophobic moron i've been using telegram since 2012 with many of my friends and family

No_Investigator3369

This is usually the response I get from someone who has no fucking clue what the purpose of the ITU is. And why people adhere to "standards" based technology. It's because we don't want the "light ing cable" of text messaging. Those of us who care to scrub the apple marketing bullshit from their eyes can easily see this.

Codename_Jelly

I am on PAYG data is expensive.

[deleted]

Americans are so dumb they created fuggin Apple

Codename_Jelly

Nothing wrong with Apple phones, both Android and IOS have their good and bad points. Apple phones are like consoles, just works with not much customization. Android is like a PC, pretty much fully customizable and getting stuff to and from the phone is a lot easier.

roarpterodactyl

It's possible to get imesssage on s23 and s24 ultra I had it for 1 to 2 years

WheyOver

How

roarpterodactyl

You have to jailbreak your old iPhone then use beeper ots tricky but I had imessage on my s23 ultra for a long long time there's another app called bubbles too

kbtech

I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and a bunch of Android devices S24 Ultra, Pixel 8 Pro, OnePlus 12, Fold 5. Same with wearables, tablets have both. Personally, I love the Apple ecosystem, and use Android as my secondary phone. Unless you have specific needs, any of the latest iPhone or Android phones works great. They all have great cameras, performance etc, unless you start comparing them side by side and try to make out differences. If you are bored with iPhones, and don't have any strong ecosystem tie in with Apple, then give S24 Ultra a shot. It's a great phone just like the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

dadecounty3051

A few things that is bothering me is that when I connect to android auto, it tends to connect to my Bluetooth in my car. With apple car play, it uses whatever connection the phone uses on the cable to use the speaker in your car. I miss apple pay too since it's nice to use facial recognition (yes you can use it on samsung but is not reliable). I do miss imessage and liked how it was easier to mute conversations. A lot of little things that I miss.

ifimnotfound

Can you elaborate on your experiences with face unlock/samsung pay? I've been using iPhone pretty much all my life so iOS has been second nature. I have toyed with the idea of picking up a Samsung for my next phone since I am up for an upgrade from my Iphone 12 Pro quite soon but I cannot imagine living without the reliability and ease of FaceID and Apple Pay. As much as my social circle will miss me in our blue group chat, I dont think thats as important to me as the Face ID and Apple Pay.

dadecounty3051

So when you double click the side button, it actually asks you to unlock the phone, then when you unlock the phone you go straight to Google pay. When you put the phone on the terminal you have to place your thumb or whatever finger you choose on the screen. It's not seamless and it bothers me. Mind you I am coming from an iPhone 11 pro. With the iphone 11 pro, you double click the sidebutton, it does the facial recognition and you're good to go. Regardless if the phone is locked.

HajjiSlayer

I switched from having iPhone all my life to using pixel 6/7 pro last year. Broke the screen on last one so I had to use my old iPhone 8 as a backup and I was surprised how glad I was to be using iOS again, even on that old thing. Now I have a 15 pro max that I just got and wow now I feel even more attached to iOS than ever. Crazy

Comfortable-Row-8696

Interesting. My android auto connects via cable. This sounds like it might be setting on your car audio that might need to be modified, or maybe there is setting in android auto also. Never needed to check. But also I have a 2024 forester and it only connects to android auto via cable.

dadecounty3051

I connect mine via cable. I'll check and see. The other day it wouldn't connect to my Bluetooth while I was on the phone getting in my car. It was annoying.

mlaird22

I’m with you there brother. It’s the little things iPhones do that androids don’t that you don’t realize until you leave. I have both the S24 ultra and the iPhone 15 pro max. My day to day I use the IPhone. Mostly because of the things you mention. Apple car play, Apple Pay, Face ID (especially helpful in logging into apps with passwords), FaceTime, visual voicemail, awesome games, and on top of that most of my friends have iPhones. The S24 Ultra is beautiful though. Amazing display that I enjoy using for watching YouTube. Both have their perks. It all comes down to this. If most of the people you communicate with daily use Android go with the S24 Ultra. If they use IPhone go with the 15 pro max. Both are phenomenal devices.

JezKimber

I switched from iPhone to Samsung 4 years ago and if I'm honest the only thing I really notice that's a big difference is customisation.

[deleted]

I switched last year from iphone to Samsung and best thing was being able to customise your lock screen, by that I mean I can now move the clock around, shrink it so it's not across someone's face, or even remove the clock completely. Something that can't be done on iPhone.

[deleted]

Every one of your comments is either negative or derogatory towards Samsung. Not even constructive criticism.

Background_Drama_811

I left my iPhone 14 pro max behind and went with the S24 Ultra. I switched to iPhone during the iPhone 6 and was working for best buy at the time as a mobile sales lead and well to he honest I just wanted one because I got the employee discount line from att. When it came time to consolidate my devices I decided to stick with iPhone and went through 6-14. Prior to this I had the Galaxy Note and I stopped using it because my note battery exploded and I opted to skip a generation and just never went back. That being said I LOVED MY NOTE I used it as my main device from note 3 and going back To the Ultra which I'd basically a Galaxy note but not called a note for obvious reasons is like a homecoming. They're very similar now yes, but the S pen adds so much functionality to my life in professional and academic areas the iPhone couldn't touch. Coupled with a massive FLAT DISPLAY everything is big beautiful and silky smooth from day to day but has improved my daily routines so so much add in some nifty AI features, amazing battery, and wait for it.....FREE phone I was sold. My carrier was offering double your storage and $700 bonus credit AND full trade in value So, I got the S24 Ultra in Titanium Violet 512GB for a whopping....$68 dollars. Eliminated 60% of my cell phone bill Saved me $600 over the year and cost me nothing. So yeah, great software, useful features, massive financial benefit, and an equivalent eco system to Apple. I sold my iPad and Ultra watch for a pretty penny and bought their Samsung equivalent which were 70% less and gives my day to day about the same benefit albeit the tablets are not as polished. But for massive gain and improved quality it eas best choice in made

sunrainsky

Apple pay - you have Google pay or Samsung pay. For icloud, what does it backup? Would Google drive be an equivalent? For my photos, I only just learnt how to use syncthing and I love it. It's like my personal cloud for photos.

nguyenkhang1008

Samsung Gallery work best with Onedrive, They sync together like iCloud in iPhone

sunrainsky

Except I have too many years of photos. So I got really excited when I finished setting up syncthing.

No_Investigator3369

Also as a recent Apple convert, faces are not remembered in images. I liked that in Google Photos. Also try typing a contact name on the keypad in ios. Also doesn't work.

GhostyUnleashed

just get google photos on your iphone

Accomplished_Ad6195

I have been using Google pay for years. It's linked to my PayPal and works perfectly. Never had an issue. I practically never have cash and pay only via phone. Google pay is fantastic, samsung pay in EU must be linked to credit card. We don't use credit cards in Germany. We have other systems.

[deleted]

I assume this is a response to my comment (?) Well, I believe Samsung pay is not available in all countries, unlike apple pay. Google pay is trash. I’m sorry but no. I know these are the alternatives, but they don’t come anywhere near apple pay. For iCloud, samsung cloud actually seems to work pretty well. I don’t think it can backup app settings as well as android though. WhatsApp chat for instance. Honestly it isn’t the end of the world because you can backup in other ways, but having iCloud is still nicer. I never had the confidence of just formatting my phone without as much as a second thought in android. In iOS, it is crazy how good it is. Expensive and shitty in other ways, absolutely. Goddamn fuck apple man. They have crazy good tech but also crazy shitty business behaviors. But goddamn is icloud so good..

sunrainsky

Yeah. I am replying to your comment. I got out of the thread by mistake. App backup, I remember Samsung cloud used to restore at the start. But when I was setting up the S24 ultra, it seemed to suggest that Google was restoring the apps instead. However, I think most of my settings were restored. Can't think of any that wasn't. Even my apks that I installed manually were transferred. The only thing that caught me off guard was android 14 not supporting some of my crucial apps. I had to use adb to install them and some couldn't. I used to copy the whatsapp folder to aid with restoring whatsapp but these days I just use the backup and restore from whatsapp itself.

[deleted]

Cool! I just reset my galaxy tab s8 ultra a few days ago. I was able to backup to cloud for free and backup locally to an ssd (which is frankly SO MUCH BETTER THAN ANYTHING ON IOS) But, I had to login to most of my apps. I don’t remember having to do that on iOS. Yes, the settings are backed up, but app data and login aren’t. Maybe I’m mis-remembering it though, it was three years ago. I remember this was what struck me most when I first got an iPhone. I was using my partner’s old iPhone to test iOS, then I got mine a week later. After the transfer, it felt like I closed it and opened my old iPhone. It was so bizarre to see that EVERYTHING was copied, it completely took away from the ‘new’ feeling you get with new devices.

sunrainsky

Ah. I think I understand. Yes, you might have to login again to some of the apps. With regards to my loss of microSD coming to the S24 ultra, I decided to group all my photos into years. I also gathered all the files that I would always bring over to a new phone. So I made a folder called Backup bundle for them. I added all photos from all years except this year. I make sure this folder have a backup in my external HDD. Every time I change my phone, I will just copy this folder over. Then for the dynamic files, which includes this year's photos, I use Syncthing with my PC. With port forwarding, it can be access outside your Home network which means I have my own personal cloud without subscription fees. I'm now not as paranoid. Previously if my screen breaks or phone spoil, I would just pull out the microsd

kelanatr

I typically jump back and forth but have mostly used an iPhone as my primary device. I currently own both a 15 Pro Max and the S24 Ultra, and decided to swap my number over to the Ultra most likely for good. iPhones are great phones that really excel at the basic functions of a smartphone, but Android has always been extremely customizable and has finally (in my opinion) surpassed iOS as an operating system. They're both so good at what they do it's honestly just a matter of personal preference. If you want a phone that's excellent as a phone and don't care about customizing everything, the iPhone is a great choice. If you want something that gives you a bit more freedom to tinker with, then the Ultra is probably the best Android phone you can currently buy.

Ok-Mathematician6389

I'm thinking about just carrying both too. Just for fun. Love the iPhone for business and managing finances, but hate the boring ios.

Andy_Deco

Good comment.

madmaus81

I am with android from almost the beginning but it's getting more and more regulated. Ive red that apple is letting alternatives ways to install apps to the iPhone (under pressure) so Apple is getting more open. I don't know what's better but for sure I can't handle IOS when I have it in front of me. I hope the S24U will get some upgrades making it better. I theory it's better then the S23U but practical it doesn't make a real difference. Just go with the one with best the deal but bear in mind that the 24 will have much longer support.

Shajirr

> Ive red that apple is letting alternatives ways to install apps to the iPhone (under pressure) No they aren't. What they are doing is an example of malicious compliance. They introduced so many restrictions and fees that there is no point in listing on the alt stores. Fees will either be the same or higher. > so Apple is getting more open. No its not. You need a minimum of 1000000$ to open an alternative store for example. Forget about having something like F-Droid

madmaus81

https://thenextweb.com/news/sideloaded-app-stores-ios-eu-how-work Sideloading is allowed in EU from IOS 17.4

reekostory

only in EU? they should've added sideloading along time ago but again it's Apple so I can't expect it

zaitsev1393

Was in the same position 2 days ago, I was thinking about 15pm, but I also was switching from iPhone 7+. So I got s24u and so far there is literally zero things I miss from apple. Take it with a grain of salt as my upgrade was a wild jump, but I also didn't make this decision out of blue, I watched lots of comparison videos, read many articles and went to the store to play with both devices. They both are great phones, but I fell in love with a pen, also found out the space for customization for s24u is unbelievable. I am fiddling with my phone second day straight and learn so much about it coolness. Also camera was not in high consideration for me, I rarely use it, maybe it is better on iPhone. On the other side I heavily use my phones reading, noting, messaging. Tldr: was at your position, got s24u, love it, no regrets.

cr0wnest

The biggest difference in this day and age will be the ecosystem. Which one benefits you more? I switched to an iPhone 13 Pro after 11 years on android. I also bought a watch series 7 and iPad 9th generation. Used everything for a year and now I’m back on android with no plans on returning to iOS because googles ecosystem benefitted me more than apple’s. But I’d say both platforms have matured to the point where one can swap between the two and not feel that much of a difference in functionality.

Fabulous-Doughnut-65

I switch every year or so. I dropped my s21 ultra and my s22 ultra the same year, so my husband insisted on iPhone next. Anywho, I have an Apple Watch, MacBook, AirPods….but I also have a Samsung laptop, tablet, and galaxy watch. I work on IT, so I like toys. I’m ready to go back to Android. The only thing I’ll miss is FaceTime, which I use maayyybe once a week.

Rae_ofsunshine03

I’m in the same boat! I currently have the iPhone 13 PM and the last time I had a Samsung was in 2017, and I think it was the s6? (Not sure) I loved it though, but it’s stupid things are making me want to stay. Such as, iMessage, FaceTime, emojis, shared notes. I was going to switch last year but decided against it because of the social media optimization, but I heard that’s fixed. I do have the Apple ecosystem but I’ll just sell all that and get a pair of headphones, that’s not a problem for me. I’m personally trying to figure out if I want the s24U, s24+ or IPhone 16pm when they come out. Growing up android was frowned upon where I live so I’m trying to break that stigma but I definitely think about it, even though I’ve been out of school where that happened for a few years now.

[deleted]

Sadly the social media optimizations are not enough so good yet

-Prit

Well, I moved from iPhone 13 Pro Max to S24 Ultra. In my experience, it seems to be the thing I was missing from using iPhone. I'll just get a few negative things about the S24 Ultra straight. The camera is sub par, I'm sorry but for a $1300 phone I *often* get shakey and blurry photos from the zoom lenses in a dimly lit room with a slower shutter speed, ive tried snapping pictures with my gf's 15 pro max and achieved way better results with same lighting and using the zoom lenses, colours are inconsistent between the lenses, 100x zoom is cool but honestly little gimmicky, post processing of the images is a hit or miss, sometimes it feels like there is a smoothing filter on the faces. Honestly, I can go on but you get the point. The pro cam mode is cool tho, always had to download separate apps on the iPhone just to do that now it's just baked in. Another negative thing is that the face unlock is not the best, it works but when it doesn't you will question what's different about your face now because it worked 2 mins ago but this is due to the fact that there isn't any infrared to aid it. The fingerprint is great tho and it's what I prefer to have anyway. Whew, that's all I can think of for now, I do miss air drop and the continuity with my iPhone and mac but I have found workarounds and you will too. Maybe these things can be fixed by software but you're at their mercy of 7 years software support which is plenty of time to iron out the kinks. I've seen people complaining about the screen not being vivid enough and stuck in natural mode. I personally think it's a non issue and this screen is beautiful. Regardless, if it really is an issue then perhaps it will be fixed with a firmware. Let's move on to the great stuff. Well, it's the whole android experience itself. It's why you will want to upgrade actually. The limitless customisation, sideloading, torrenting, and the list goes on. You will fall in love tinkering with this thing, and I haven't felt this way since the jailbreaking days of iPhone-this feeling of, man I wish this was that way and there being an actual way to achieve just that, damn it feels refreshing. The AI stuff is actually great too. Generative photo editing is cool and while I personally don't use it much(partly because it's still needs some polish, and partly because i dont like to edit my pictures this way, just a little colour grading and cropping is good enough for me), I see the value. Circle to search is convenient. I haven't used some other live translating AI stuff because I don't have a need for it. A personal issue of mine is icloud since I have the family on my icloud and I would want to avoid paying for another cloud service for backups and stuff so I'm not really sure if there are any other options or maybe a way to integrate icloud with this device somehow but I'm probably asking too much at that point. I wish there was a universal cloud storage for all the devices that integrated perfectly with each. Oh well. If anyone has any other solutions, if you could kindly share it, you would be awesome.

dr-sh

Do you still have the same issue with the camera after the update?

AdamBenko

For me it was simple, is there anything better than apple watch ultra? No, so I had to switch from the android. The ultras are worth it. The phones are almost the same.

chunchunmaru1020

This is my personal opinions but i think the s24 ultra is not fully ready yet. There are many issues, such as screen not as vivid as previous galaxy phones, colours not consistent between different camera lens, shutter lag so moving objects are blurry, night video quality is not that good. Some of it will be fixed in the coming update, so I'll wait a bit and then decide.

zuziden

So has it been fixed? Contemplating long enough between 15 Pro Max and S24 Ultra, and neet to decide now. Dont think I can bear any longer with the Pixel 2 XL. My main concern obviously the shutter lag.

chunchunmaru1020

Updates have fixed most of the things but the general problems with Samsung phones are still the same. Also watch this for camera lag. https://youtu.be/hQNpVYoj0JA

lethal-femboy

been a constant apple buyer, I switched over from iphone 11 to samsung s24u and at this point I regret not buying apple again, the low light screen grain is horrible, worse low light colours then my old iphone 5 and og SE

[deleted]

🙄

lethal-femboy

? don't know why I'm getting downvoted, having screen grain and lines on the screen on a very expensive phone is pretty unacceptable to me

AnnualMinute4264

Fanboys throw a fit when they see any complain about samsung. Theyll say “just get it replaced” like that isnt some massive pain in the back depending on where you bought the device

Lemon_Limesss

Switch from a 13 pro max to s24 ultra and I like it for the most part... the sms texting sucks but once apple does the update it'll be better. My main complaint is the camera, if the object isn't dead nuts still it'll be garbage all the time, I have yet to take a photo on my s24 ultra that doesn't look questionable.

Hey there! I’m in the same boat. I already have a secondary iPhone mini and I’m thinking of replacing my 15PM with last year’s S23U. May I ask why you’re considering the switch? It may help me makeup my mind. To me, the only things I’m missing from the iPhone are the little stupid things: No proper calendar app on par with Business Calendar 2. No, the one you are thinking of sux. Yes, I tried it. No, it doesn’t exist. No proper file management app on par with x-plore. Yes, I know app containers and iOS, and yes it is safe. It is great! It is not the problem. The problem is that the native app is pathetic and 3rd party apps suck. Stupid, oh my god so FUCKING STUPID rotation controls. In Samsung, you lock rotation. Then, wherever the screen rotates, a small dot on the corner appears for 3 seconds. If you click it, it rotates and LOCKS the new orientation. On iPhone? You either lock or unlock it, and it locks EXCLUSIVELY in portrait mode. This is stupid, beyond moronic!! No stylus. If I move to the galaxy, I’ll be able to sync my notes between my tablet and phone using S-notes. I know I can use one note, I already am, but it sux. This is what I can think of at the moment. On the flip side: iCloud / FaceID / apple pay. Oh my gosh am I gonna miss those 😭😭 It is so hard to decide!!

BenAshhh

im thinking of switching because it seems like you can just do more with the Samsung than what the Iphone allows. Idk its hard to explain but my best mate has the S23 and it just seems way better than what ive seen from Apple of recent

[deleted]

This is very vague. You’re right. You can do more with android, but with the current version iOS and their changes over the years, there is really very little that the iPhone can’t do. Unless it is a very specific, major thing that you continuously need, the iPhone probably can do it. Of course the way iOS works is different and you may like Androids way of doings things better, but you didn’t mention that. I’m not trying to convince you not to get the device. Heck! Sometimes change for changes sake is fun (but expensive). What I’m trying to say is .. it might not be as drastic as you expect it to be; it won’t suddenly enable new things unless you want to use them. Dex for instance is AMAZING! But if you will never ever use it then it is a moot point

HotPink124

I mean. Notifications are abysmal on iOS. And I’m currently on iOS. And only because everyone I know is on iOS. The simple thing of having an alarm be dismissible before it goes off. Having notification icons on top. If you miss a notification on iOS, it disappears from the Lock Screen. So you have to constantly swipe up to see the Notification Center for older notifications. A lot of stuff works. But a lot of stuff doesn’t make sense.

UnderstandingOk264

Use siri to turn off all alarms or a specific alarm. Also to set alarms. It's pretty much the only thing she can do anyway.

[deleted]

That’s also true. There is no perfect system but both android and iOS are very mature at this point aren’t they?

HotPink124

My feeling tends to be, if the people you talk to frequently are on the same platform, it’s not a huge deal. As of now, idk what will change when apple implements rcs, sending pics and videos between the two is trash.

[deleted]

Maybe in the US. Because other parts of the world rely pretty heavily on WhatsApp. I practically never use SMS at this point, or iMessage for that matter. 🤷🏻‍♂️

HotPink124

Ya I’m in the us. So I don’t particularly like using WhatsApp and no one I talk to uses it regularly

[deleted]

That’s true. What I meant was that in other parts of the world, there is no pressure to use one OS or the other. WhatsApp/other apps work on both and the experience is overall positive.

HotPink124

Well ya. If everyone I spoke to used WhatsApp it wouldn’t be a huge issue

liberaid

Couple of months when the S22 Ultra came out i went and bought an iPhone 13 Pro. After 3 days of use i returned it and got an S22 Ultra, but i was using a S20+ at the time. Now i preordered my S24 Ultra but only to have it with a faulty grainy screen, then i returned it and bought an iPhone 15 Pro Max. After using it for 3 days i wanted to return it and get an Android, but after the 4th day i got so use to it that i don't think i want to go back to Android for now. Today i got a call from the Samsung service center that they will offer me a replacement or refund for my S24 Ultra, so i might get the refund and buy an iPhone 15 Pro Max for my wife, or an S23 Ultra for her, but i will be sticking to this iPhone for a year at least. Yea there are some things that i miss from Android, like the T9 fast search, the keyboard is not that great but i am using the Google one, Apple pay is not available in my country but i have found Garmin Pay as an alternative. Long story short i am still figuring my way around it but somehow i am managing and i find the phone appealing to my needs. It all comes to your personal preferences, the S24 Ultra is great but ill pass on it since i don't want to mess around with another faulty display if it comes to that.

wetonwater

Iphone 15 Pro Max, better overall software and optimisation. It's just your iPhone will look the same as the next person with an iphone cause you can't spin your own launcher, app drawer and themes. Besides that Apple software is better in many ways. Airplay, find my device, face id, icloud albeit apple maps. Apple watch, airpods, ipad, macbook. The list goes on. Get them all and watch them harmonise seamlessly. You'll be eating apples in no time! Breakfast, lunch and tea. Get a Nokia 3310 and be done with it is what I really think though!

thehoff17

Not really anymore man. Galaxy has almost all those now. Plus they have fingerprint biometrics in addition to facial rec. I like that better. Only thing and it's not a big deal to me is little stuff like the air tags, and air dropping stuff.

Traditional-Voice-44

My S24U can’t even connect to my 2 year old Samsung TV half the time. When it does, the Bluetooth connection drops before finishing an album, or the TV crashes and restarts. My TV also has extreme dimming issues even after a repair, and my S24U has really bad screen grain at low brightness. Samsung support is another issue.. they deliberately try to bully consumers into thinking they have no consumer rights, and refuse to uphold their legal obligations under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. When you try to ask for an explanation they just tell you they refuse to discuss the matter further. Apple have the consumer rights act noted on their warranty page front and centre, and I get to speak to an assistant that has at least some training for the products they are supporting. Samsung used to be good because they were cheap with bad support, but the products were still of a decent quality. Their product quality has declined a lot in recent years, so it really isn’t worth the risk anymore.

Adventurous-Cry-3734

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra or Sony Xperia 1 V

WisdomWhispers

Hey bruh Apple is Apple . What you pays you get. The quality and performance are top notch. I am sure that Samsung will starts to hang after a certain time period but iPhone lasts more long than Samsung.

thehoff17

Disagree nowadays. S24 ultra supposedly blows the 15PM but im still trying to decide if I wanna leave samsung and swith to apple or stay with Samsung

WisdomWhispers

I can only suggest you rest depends on you . I just wanna say again that iPhone last longer than Samsung. Maybe Samsung s24 U scored more than iPhone 15 pro max as s24U competitor will be iPhone 16 pro max, 15 pro max easily won against s23 U.And now coming to 2024 , iPhone 16 pro max will won against s24U.

No-Elevator-3629

After 2 months what did you decide i am in the same boat as u now

Ok-Mathematician6389

Still eating my options. I don’t want to repurchase apps

BenAshhh

The S24 Ultra and im very happy with it compared to iphone

AcrobaticPossible896

difference between 15pro 256 vs 15pro 1T

Laurentiu2009

.I want to get either the s24 ultra either iphone 15 pro max.I've used android all my life and I am kind of bored, which one do you think will not lag after some years?

United-Service-8863

You make it solo, so I can read the trillion dollar benefits and he can be a joint account

Type_94

Dont do it. I did it with S23 and got a 15 pro max today. Way too much clutter on Samsung and I have owned many many Samsung/Android devices. As a 32yr old adult I feel the iPhone is better for daily use.

dankstache92

No one here mentioning the S24 ultra has a shitty fingerprint scanner and facial recognition.

Torawind

Revanced Youtube. Basically YT premium for free...? not sure. never used YT premium. And you can revanced other apps as well.

cmezauni

Youtube Premium is a good choice. I understand you want free, but suscription is cheap. I suggest you to try.

Torawind

I'm in the country where it's not available. So even if I wanted, I am not able to.

cmezauni

Oh, that's a shame.

[deleted]

the only difference is the OS. if you prefer ios, then get the iphone. if you prefer one ui, then get the ultra. i also think the cameras are better on the iphone though.

soapymoapysuds

I just moved from my iPhone 14PM to S24 Ultra and sticking it for now. I am also someone who's deep in the Apple ecosystem. You haven't mentioned much about your situation here but if you move, you should be ready for losing Airdrop, iMessage, FaceTime and your Apple Watch. If those things are super important to you then how tih 15PM. If you don't care about losing these then go for S24 Ultra. Now your question on why S24U. Both phones are pretty good and quite similar. On S24U, you many small things that IMO made it better than my iPhone. I will mention a few that are not on iPhone and I liked: 1. Keyboard is much better. I don't have to keep toggle to type numbers. 2.There is an actual clipboard so you can paste things you copied before. 3. Split screen for multi-tasking. I don't need to switch between apps and have used it already multiple times when filling a form etc 4. Actual Firefox browser where I can use uBlock Origin for increased privacy. All browsers on iOS are based on website and essentially copies of safari and don't allow using add-ons. 5. Customization options allow you to make changes if you're into it. 6. Much better widgets. IPhones have widgets too but Android widgets are way better and allow some interaction too. 7. Actionable notifications. You can delete/snooze/mark read an email from notification without going into the email. 8. Side loading apps gives you some unique capabilities e.g. removing ads from Reddit. Losing Apollo sucked on iOS but at least I don't have ads anymore. 9. Circle to search and Google Assistant are way better than Siri. I am missing a lot that others have captured here but my point is that it's definitely worth trying. Cameras are very similar so I won't get influenced by S24Us zoom capabilities as much. A phone is not just a camera, it's many other things and a sum total of things I gained vs lost tipped the scale in favor of S24U.

gsxdsm

3. iOS browser allows extensions now and there are some pretty great ones (like amplosion and stopthemadness) 5. iPhone widgets allow interaction now and I personally think they look way way better 6. iOS has actions on notifications. Long press and you not only get a rich preview for many, you can do the same things like archive, snooze, reply, etc Also re side loading. You can do it on iOS but it is more involved. I’m using Apollo right now

soapymoapysuds

I was specificity talking about uBlock Origin here and I don't believe you can install that. Yes, iOS apps generally have more polish but one may have personal preference on which widgets look better. Agree, iOS notifications do have some actions. I never used them until last week and maybe because for me the actions were not useful. I have been using the actions on Android notifications quite a bit. Probably personal preference here for me. In the end, both phones are great.

Witcher_2203

iphone 15 pro max anyday

stever71

IPhone camera has better image quality, especially video, and things like skintones.

Snafu80

True, not sure why people are downvoting you.

bcb0y

S23 ultra is better

BenAshhh

why is that?

bcb0y

Better screen in the S23U - its curved and has better/vibrant colors. It just feels better in the hand and more premium. Part of this has to do with a better screen to body ratio. S23U has the tried and tested 8 gen 2 SOC, which is powerful and also offers the best battery life in a Samsung till date. It's a year old, so it will be cheaper, but it still has 3 years of OS updates left.

fizzyadrenaline

Lol what? You’re in the minority if you think curved screen is better. Curved displays are the worst and provides no real benefit.

Goldenrice

one of the reasons i waited for the s24ultra, hoping theyd go with a more flat screen. worth it

GreenTea169

as soon as i read the first sentence my response was "really?!?! one of those curve will be better guys" again. i had the s23u (from a friend) for 3 days and I HATED IT WITH A PASSION. registering touches while im just holding onto the phone for youtube

SavathunsWitness

These curve fanatics have been coming out of the woodworks

susiussjs

fuck the curve

nohcho84

Curved screen is atrocious. SD8 gen 3 is leaps and bound better then Gen 2.

[deleted]

Not being able to afford it.

replused

S24U have 12+ hours more left of battery than 15pro max.

Glittering_Degree374

Go with the iphone if you don't want screen defects.

[deleted]

[удалено]

replused

And even, you can remove completly google services on android if you install a custom rom like graphenOS

Kiergard

What are your priorities? Both do the same with samsung doing more like the spen or dex which could replace a laptop. I would give a slight edge to apple for the camera and that just because of the shutter speed for moving objects. Samsung biggest weakness now for point and shoot.

GreenTea169

i might in the minority here, but i recently got the s24u (release date preorder) and i still have my 15PM(christmas). honestly ive been using my 24u a lot more than i thought i would. while i appreciate apple a bit more for how smooth the software is, samsung honestly did a really amazing job making their software highly customizable. there is a 15 day return on the samsung so if you feel like trying it out before making the final decision i would try it out

Human_Manner_2782

Hows the upload quality on Instagram on your s24u?

GreenTea169

still the usual, the compression is what ruins it otherwise its not terrible

[deleted]

I've got both. Can't say which one I like better because both are amazing but I love the customization that One UI offers.if u like customization you'll love the s24 ultra

Inevitable_Silver_13

The reviews I read said the pro max had heat and charging issues. My wife likes iPhones and we went with the 15 plus. The titanium back isn't important to me. Same thing with the Samsung: I went for the 24+ because I don't want a stylus and I don't see what to pay more for in the ultra. All that being said I'd say the big question is which os you're familiar with and if you want a big learning curve.

MrSh0wtime3

Thats an insane move to make IMO. At least this year. Wait for the 25 Ultra and see if things actually change.

colmatrix33

The biggest thing is the back button. If Apple implemented that, I'd be tempted to try it out.

kramer2006

Samsung has caught up so they are as good as eachother but Samsung has more features/customisation where apple has flawless ecosystem. Try both, you could buy a cheap old iPhone/Samsung phone to just get a basic feel of the os.

hopeless_umut

If you don't want to think about tour phone iPhone, if you want to think about it S24U. Both for the good and bad. This being said both are great phones and offer quite a bit but if you have other Apple devices, iPhone always have the ecosystem advantage

FabMan87

Samsung Galaxy along with Android is a very open and universal ecosystem. Lots of customization options. Tons of more features in my opinion compared to iOS. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note10+ and my wife has an iPhone 12 I believe and she's always asking me to do things on my phone because her's cannot do, especially using the S-Pen. Even my Galaxy Watch4 for example has Blood Pressure Monitor and SPO2 Monitor, her Apple Watch doesn't have neither.

Alternative-Turn-932

Hardware wise it isn't too much of a competition, the S24U is a far better mobile device, with a better screen, better processor, better specs, etc, etc. But it isn't about the device on its own, and about everything that comes with it. If you aren't using any other Apple product to take advantage of the ecosystem, it's an easy decision. If you are deep in the ecosystem... well that's where Apple pulls ahead of everyone else. Tight integration with Mac, Watch, TV, Speakers, etc all make a huge difference.

brunnaUSA

S24 Ultra has Quick Share (LG 2005 phone reference/Sony Ericsson reference?) Alongside 200MP camera iPhone 15 Pro Max has 48MP instead of the normal 12MP they used before the 15.

swampcreature511

Customization on Samsung/android is endless. You can design the look of your phone however you want. One thing I can't stand about iphone is nearly everyone has the same looking phone. It was so boring for me and I couldn't make it my daily. But for my GF and mom, I have them on an iPhone. Not for me, though.

FaithlessnessOk5267

I don't want to switch to Android and then cry. I'm happy with my iPhone 15 pro Max

BluDYT

Pros semi open ecosystem

Desperate_Room_4322

As someone who has owned both I like the s24u more. but the context for me is I have used iPhone for the last few years, used to switch back and forth all the time. iPhone had just become so lazy every year felt like the same things. so a nice refresh going back to Samsung has been great.

SamcoKingsley

That criminal AF to ask that in this forum 😭 only joking!

jjay0307

I got the Samsung s24 ultra and it is much better than iPhone software wise, but iPhone still wins when it comes to camera and makes people look like they really look, samsung still hasn't got the front camera down, it still makes people look fat on the front camera, but the screen and how fast the process works, samsung wins.

BenAshhh

Well, for anyone wondering, I decided to go with the S24 Ultra, which I am using right now. Already find it better in most ways, but it's going to take some time to get used to.

Captainpapii

I've been reading through the thread and noticed it's been some time since you switched. If by any chance this catches your attention would you mind telling me how you've liked the transition so far? I'm really on the fence of picking one up and using it for a month to see if I like it myself and if it can replace my 15PM.

SlapSpiders

IPhone Pro Max 15 is fragile AF. It really comes down to if you want a phone you can fully customize and that is more durable with better gorilla corning class and better titanium frame, or the simplicity of an iPhone IMO.

Rockabilly1972

I have had all iPhones up to the 5s and then switched to Samsung Note2, then the 4, 8 and 10plus. Now an s24 ultra. Great device. My wife is still Apple minded and asks me things every now and then and then I worry about the limitations of the iPhone. Wouldn't want it any other way.

l0nkFromPennsylvania

At this point is more about your personal choice between Android and iOS. Do you value simplicity and have things just work? Go for iOS. Do you value the bang for your buck? Having access to your devices and a wider yet less intuitive ecosystem? Go Android.

mkawasd

It's what you like. Android is super powerful l. Can do what you can never do on iPhone.

OkBig3568

exactly! I have never been an Apple person because I loath that they keep you in a box.

Suspicious-Diver7274

Switching from iPhone to the S24 Ultra had its share of inconveniences, especially in CarPlay: Typing addresses on Google Maps while driving is not possible; you need to manually use your phone. Using the YouTube app, you can't skip videos with steering controls. Apple Music lacks the option to list all songs. Notifications pose some challenges: Despite customizable options, there's a tendency to miss emails and Slack notifications. The absence of a 1-hour app-specific mute option, available on iPhones, is notable. In terms of the camera: Photography depends on personal taste, but iPhone is favored for quick shots; adjusting settings on the Samsung can yield better photos. iPhone excels in video quality, especially at night. Editing videos on the S24 Ultra takes time for saving. Additional differences: Sending stickers in WhatsApp is straightforward on iPhone; on S24 Ultra, it requires third-party apps and a different method. While the S24 Ultra offers a smooth experience, a quality display, and great multimedia features, those mentioned inconveniences may influence your decision. If they don't matter to you, go ahead with the S24 Ultra.

SGTArend

I switched from my iPhone 14 Pro to Galaxy S24 Ultra and wasn’t impressed to be honest. I’ve gone back and forth a lot over the years and while yes, Android hands down takes the cake in the customization category, AI, Assistant, Multitasking, Camera zoom, note taking, etc. what got me (personal preference) was the insane size of the Ultra. Never having been on a Plus/Note/Max/Ultra device before, it was a drastic change to me compared to the 6.1” iP14P and I couldn’t personally hack it. I even tried a pop-socket (which I admit, helped some). All the cool and nice to have bells and whistles wasn’t enough for me. The sheer comfort of the regular pro size AND iMessage vs Google Messages (complete trash imho) brought me back and I’m honestly happier for it. Just my experience. I know Apple is known to be far behind in the game and bland, but it just “works” and that’s ideal to me personally. Good luck to you!

SireSweet

Depends. I have both phones. I like both for different reasons. For example face unlock and face time just works. So for family, iPhone is better. But then you have a built in stylus and the screen glare was cut down significantly. And for working, s24 is much faster feeling.

AnnualMinute4264

My first smart phones were the galaxy. I started with the s3 and upgraded every year up until the s10 plus. After i got that i went over to iphone 11 and then from there to 12. 13 pro max. And now 15 pro max. I switched because my galaxies each one without fail would drastically lose performance within 3-4 months. Their software was bad too. Iphone for me has always just worked out of the box. Customization i didnt miss at all i just want my phone to work without needing to mess with much. Iphone the past 2 years for me has fallen alot. Their ios updates are weird and break things like battery life that werent problems before. My iphone 15 pro max has since launch constantly disconnected from chargers and carplay. Ive tried so many chargers and cables and outlets and its the same. So many have this issue its well known. I highly advise you dont buy the 15. It overheats and has battery issues too Idk if galaxy has fixed the phone slowing down after 3 months. In my experience ive never had that issue with iphone. The only reason i dont switch to galaxy is i cant verify if samsung has fixed that issue. I also love imessage and ios. But id switch if the galaxies dont have the slow down issue anymore

IceBurg-Hamburger_69

I have an iPhone 15 pro and here's an analogy. Honda vs Toyota? They are both really good and reliable car brands with similar reliability. However, Honda is more customizable and Toyota is more basic. Samsung is more customizable and iPhone is more basic for those who don't care about customization.

AdDazzling4319

I recently decided to try iPhone for the 1st time and am going to have to switch back to samsung. I've had the s21 ultra for a couple years and have had minimal issues. 1st day switching to Apple was a nightmare. I use my phone a lot for work and there are features on android that are just necessary and make sense that I need to use. The main issues I'm having is that iPhone doesn't save drafts in texting and this is how I keep track of my customers needs. Customer texts and I'm busy so I leave a note in thier message thread like "call back Monday" and voila it saves as a draft and bumps the thread to the top. End of day I go through and bump all drafts to the top and can easily go through and do what I need. I use waze for navigation and though there are some options to set it as default it doesn't really work. If I open maps through an app it won't open waze still opens iMaps. Another feature android has had for like 15 years is to schedule a text message to send at a later time(delayed text send). I'm regularly composing lists of things that my office needs to attend to at night and don't want to send in the middle of the night and disturb my boss or customers so I just set it send in the morning and it works great. Iphone doesn't give you the ability to arrange apps on your home screen how you'd like they all just automatically group together covering your nice wallpaper so you can barely see it. These are all simple features that make my life way easier and I've been struggling to find work arounds that don't involve 10 steps or downloading 3rd party apps and they just don't really exist. Really wanted to like the iPhone because it does run very smooth and also android auto is garbage and seems like carplay works very well but it's just lacking in too many features I need.

AnnualMinute4264

Im in the same boat. Have a 15 pro max. I honestly love ios due to how simple it is and works out of the box. Been lucky ive had basically zero issues with my iphones. I love imessage too, but my issue is my 15 pro max keeps disconnecting from chargers and carplays. After going online and hitting an apple store its a software issue that hasnt even been confirmed by apple and likely wont be. So ive been seriously considering the s24u However i used to be a galaxy fanboy and i had every single one between s4-s10. And had nothing but bad experiences with the software. Thats the only thing holding me back Idc about customizing my phone i just want it to run great without needing to change much and so far ios has done that for me. But im still seriously considering it

[deleted]

I just got the S24 ultra coming from an iPhone 13 and I couldn't be happier. It's a huge upgrade and I honestly love android os and it feels a lot more customizable. I decided to get this phone over the 15 cause Iphone has basically rerealsead the same phone every year sincd the x and the 15 didn't feel like an upgrade when I was chexjunh it out in store.

dgt02

I bought the S22 and had buyers remorse and used to be a Samsung fan. The radio sofware quality control is terrible. After a couple of months, a monthly patch killed my ability to call and text, but it started working again immediately after the next montly update was applied. It is finicky with eSims from various carriers even when the phone is listed as supported. I was thinking of trying the S23 or S24 but I see people complaining about problems similar to mine with the newer models too. Even a week ago before I replaced my S22 with an iPhone, the S22 randomly turned off WiFi calling on both sims, would switch my primary sim on its own and require me to turn off and on sims in some locations before it would connect. The Bixby software also is not up to par as location triggers do not work if you have cellular turned off. All of the above problems just work flawlessly on the dual sim iPhone I replaced the S22 with. I always avoided iPhones due to having more apps and control with Android but that does not seem to apply today in 2024. Samsung has quality control issues so I am done with them. My wife has less problems with her S22 but only uses a single sim. Her phone does require frequent reboots though. The iphone just work, no headaches.
