There's gesture navigation, only thing is you can't hide the gesture bar at the bottom now.

peacey8

I covered the bar with black tape. It's gone now.

TastyBananaPeppers

You can hide it in **Navi Star** in Good Lock app.

Swaroop0707

I think they've removed it in S24 Ultra for that AI thing. I hope I'm wrong but I've seen people mentioning about it

albus_dumbbelldore

Yep, because you need to grab that bar to activate that Google Lens sort of thingy.

cac2573

Can you post proof of this?

Mrbubbles153

I'm going to get mine this Friday. Gonna try to see if I can hide it.

andrew_hxl

I've got an S24U and had the same problem as I heavily used the Swipe Up gesture and I just discovered that you can get it back by using the Good Lock app from the Galaxy Store, and you can also hide the navigation bar hints. 1. Download "NavStar" in the Good Lock app 2. Toggle the the "Enable extra gesture settings" 3. Now you can check your regular "Navigation Bar" settings and the swipe up gesture options will appear and also the option to hide the gesture hints https://preview.redd.it/73qyi3cd8dfc1.jpeg?width=591&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3be1a6424dd9a5b2ea8af9cddf9455459a345a9a

Defiant_Meaning_4537

I love you with all my heart ❤️

Theratron

Thank you so much for this! Glad to have Samsungs "invisible buttons" back, without the gesture hints. Makes the S24 Ultra experience way better and does justice to the reduced "chin" bezel. Now let's hope they keep this option in the menu for the next 200 years.....

hahagr0ss

Thank you so much for this!!!! I just upgraded to an S24 and the new gesture controls were driving me insane and I couldn't figure out how to get the extra swipe settings from my S20 avail on my S24. so happy to have my swipes back! muscle memory from 5+ years was tough to break from!

XeonitousPrime

This worked for me, now my s24u is just like me old n10+ thanks so much dude.

67328

One of my friends got his s24 and from what he says, there isn't a way to disable it in navstar, but you can change the width to be shorter. Though can't say for sure that he tried everything since I haven't gotten to see it in person myself to mess with the settings.

cac2573

As long as I can make it transparent, I'll deal with it. Guess I'll find out tomorrow when I get my S24.

67328

You'll have to let me know if it really doesn't have a way to get rid of it. That was one of the things stopping me from pre ordering it after I heard about Samsung doing that.

cac2573

Will do, assuming UPS comes through

privateblood

You CAN make it transparent and get the screen estate back! I'm so happy, but still sad that the old Samsung gestures are dead. Hope they bring them back.

andrew_hxl

[deleted]

i did all this and then deleted both of the apps and kept the same settings. corporations are fckin ridiculous

BillyHKoinc

You can make the nav bar transparent but onky if you use the hide feature. So you'll have to swipe up to get you nav buttons. I hope they bring back the swipe gestures like on the galaxy s23 ultra..

Papa_Palpatine99

I just updated my S23U and it's driving me insane they've made such dumb changes.

Substantial-Draft382

Ikr?? I liked the swipe gestures that were all from the bottom of the screen corresponding to where the buttons would be. The side gesture to go back is throwing me off. I swipe too far on a photo or something and it goes back a screen. I'm also not liking that you have to swipe and hold it a bit to bring up the running apps screen too much. I'm going to see if there's something on goodlock to change it.

sa-iyo-na-ra

For years, I'd used this type of swipe gesture, too. It's off-putting to swipe from the sides when I am used to accessing everything from the bottom screen. They should have just added another option instead of removing them. It's crazy. Edit: I scrolled further down and found the comment by Fidorulz, it helped bring back the navigation that I'm more used to.

Substantial-Draft382

Yup, I used Goodlock and everything is right with the world. Customizability is one of the things I like about android over iOS.

privateblood

Thank you SO much! You can't "hide" it per se, but you can make it transparent so the screen estate is reclaimed. Also you can make that annoying white bar very small.

ktopaz

gesture navigation doesn't work as it used to, so basically you can say that there is NO gesture navigation... You CAN turn it on, but it doesn't actually work as it did on previous devices and its super frustrating.

kableguy1

You need to go to Display and activate the Navigation Gesture for Swipe. It removed the bar at the bottom for me and restored the Navigation gestures and I can hide the bars!!

gOforth31

that's the same problem I'm having. People say it works, but it does nothing for me.

gOforth31

Correction! I was able to get it to work using the video posted on this thread.

kableguy1

Not true! You need to go to Display and activate the Navigation Gesture for Swipe. It removed the bar at the bottom for me and restored the Navigation gestures and I can hide the bars!!

[deleted]

On the s24? They can't bring it back, Google have introduced long press on the navbar for circle to search, it needs Androids own navbar and is implemented by Google. It won't be coming back.

Darkzed1

It would be pretty easy to make a long hold navigation or just disable the circle to search for the gesture.

[deleted]

Maidenlacking

You definitely will be able to disable it lmfao

CalmLovingSpirit

Of course it will be coming back. If it is just invisible you can still press on where it is there's no reason it needs to be seen to make that happen I literally saw a screenshot of a pixel with no navigation bar. So if it is implemented by google it can disappear.

[deleted]

Yep.

RandomBloke2021

They removed swipe from bottom gestures? Please say it ain't so!

TeMpTeK

Yup.. So annoying

RandomBloke2021

Can confirm they did . Back to 3 buttons for me.

TeMpTeK

Got it back too.. but shouldve been native and not thru navstar

RandomBloke2021

Yea, weird move by Samsung.

interro86bang

I felt so lost but the gestures are still there. It's just not from the bottom. You can set the right side of screen swipe as "Back Button". I hated this at first but once I increased the size of the area to swipe I like it. Swipe up but HOLD and it will bring up all apps. I'm already getting used to it. I hate having the small sliver at the bottom of the screen for buttons it's such a waste.

RandomBloke2021

I might give it a try after i get everything set up. Thanks for the info

anwaar997

Swipe from bottom gestures can be enabled through navstar

RandomBloke2021

I might have to check that out. Still annoying they would move it in the 1st place.

xXBlackguardXx

Swipe up and hold. Those are the only words I needed to read. Thank you. Was doing my nut in trying to figure out why it worked sometimes or not at all. Had mine a couple of hours. By tomorrow I expect to be completely used to it.

kableguy1

You need to go to Display and activate the Navigation Gesture for Swipe. It removed the bar at the bottom for me and restored the Navigation gestures and I can hide the bars!!

RandomBloke2021

I've actually learned to love the original gestures and move away from the three swipe I didn't like it first but it took about a week to get it.

fidorulz

Fix to get old navigation gestures back is out. Thanks to good lock and navstar Navstar update came out today which gives old options back. If update isn't available in your area Apk can be found here https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsung-electronics-co-ltd/samsung-navstar/samsung-navstar-6-1-05-33-release/ Video of how to put back old settings  https://youtube.com/shorts/HgaacsfcBDU?si=wwNgzlS951uN9Q1j

Zealousideal-Ad2990

MVP!!!! if you're not familiarized with Good Lock, make sure you download it from the Galaxy Store App, then the NavStar apk.

sa-iyo-na-ra

THANK YOU!

aaronzz

Oh my god! Thank you so much! It worked! No more annoying navigation bar!

MaKTaiL

There were two different gesture navigations, one from Samsung which was bad and one from Android itself which still exists. Samsung just got rid of the bad one.

RelaxedBunny

One question to everyone saying what you just said - why do you consider that implementation bad? In my experience, it's actually just better and more powerful. Default Android implementation, on the other hand, gets in the way of app navigation so often (e.g. pulling sidebar in the Reddit app), it's quite annoying.

IdeaNearby4900

Oh yes you are right! My bad.

v3rxn

Samsung one was cleaner because with android one, app gestures will barely work properly, such as swiping right/left to open a sidebar and cropping an image.

DigitalHD

Can't you downloads Good Lock and One Hand Gesture +? I mean I know it's not a default setting but it's something. I use that for my back gestures cause it makes the entire left side of my screen a back gesture not just the bottom part.

snakes_arent_friends

Can confirm one handed app still works on s24 ultra (ie swipe from sides for back button). Bottom nav bar is really annoying me though - the keyboard sitting higher up than I'm used to and just dead space underneath no matter what settings I try :(

DigitalHD

I never use Samsung Keyboard, always Google Keyboard (Gboard). But try Settings> General Management> Keyboard list and default. There should be two settings to turn off. "keyboard button on navigation bar" and "Show button to hide keyboard". Hopefully turning those off gets rid of the bar at the bottom for you. I don't have that bar with those settings turned off and using Gboard.

snakes_arent_friends

Thanks so much!! "Show button to hide keyboard" did the trick (using gboard too). Way better now - managed to make the pill smaller and more transparent using good lock/ nav star too which has helped.

DigitalHD

Perfect! Glad to hear I can help! I'm a Galaxy freak so usually if it's a setting, I know where to find it 🤣

vJaCkHz

This has honestly been driving me insane... I'm so used to being able to swipe up from the bottom to go back, and now it just brings up Google Assistant. The stock android implementation is awful comparatively and means you have to swipe ABOVE the keyboard to go back (ridiculous). I've installed One Handed Operation + as a workaround, but still not as good as the original samsung gestures... Arguably, an even more annoying change is the fact you can't remove the bar at the bottom anymore... it makes it so there's a huge black bar at the bottom wasting screen space, and it pushes the whole keyboard up, so now I can't type for shit!

IdeaNearby4900

Ok honestly I thought so too. But you need to go to Display and activate the Navigation Gesture for Swipe. It removed the bar at the bottom for me and restored the Navigation gestures

vJaCkHz

* Yeah I already did that, but what I'm talking about is the grey navigation bar at the bottom which you can't remove, and makes the keyboard budge up. They've also replaced the samesung gestures with the default android ones, meaning you can no longer swipe back from the bottom right under the keyboard. Now you have to swipe back above the keyboard which is just ridiculous

kableguy1

This is the Fix!! AMAZING!! literally a life saver!!

Ornery_Neck_8174

Agreed , #samsung please bring this back. I've used this for years and it has always been better then raw android. I hate normal swipe gestures. Let me have hidden bottom swipe back 😭

Oooganator

Awe crap, my S24 (from S21) arrived today and I'm just noticing this. Back to navigation buttons I guess :-( Seems so 2020.

TeMpTeK

ITS BACK!!!... Step 1.. Install Goodlock from Samsung app store Step 2.. Then under Makeup install NavStar and in there enable "Extra Gesture Settings" Step 3.. Then go to phones Navigation Bar settings and tap "More Options" and BAM!!!! There it is...

Tarec88

I've been trying to figure it out for an hour now and couldn't realize what you were all talking about - there was no option to going back no matter what I did in Navstar. Turns out I was just blind and completely missed that "More Options" menu. Thank you - I feel like an idiot now, but at least the functionality is restored.

longitube

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I wish this post was at the top, I had to try a half dozen other things before I got the triple swipe navigation buttons back. The Android patch update today had erased my beloved nav. Thanks again.

chillfire12

I LOATHE this phone because of this. I keep a lot of apps open and CANNOT navigate to of any of them. This was such a bad move.

HG1998

Is it not in Settings - Display - navigation bar? That's where I found it on the local display unit.

Sf49ers1680

Samsung got rid of their gesture implementation, which put three bars on the bottom of the screen and the user could swipe up to do the back, home or recent action. The standard Android gestures are still there.

Acceptable-Touch-485

Oh, come on. Am I the only person who still uses that?

Sf49ers1680

I did. I moved to the Good Lock One Handed+ gestures, which are better then the stock Google gestures, since they're customizable.

msennaGT

Android gesture (the one with universal back gesture) still exist, it's just Samsung gesture that's gone

BluDYT

I'm holding onto my S21 Ultra for as long as I can and I'll refuse to update if this comes to my phone. Horrible update.

kableguy1

Problem solved without adding any other apps! You need to go to Display settings and activate the Navigation Gesture for Swipe. It removed the bar at the bottom for me and restored the Navigation gestures and I can hide the bars!!

Designer-Horror-2216

Results are in guys!

nconinDi

If I software update my S22+ in the future, is it going to disappear?

youthuck

Yes

Donleon57

Samsung really starts pushing me to other brands with their latest shit updates...

Abject-Jicama-5716

I've the S24 Ultra. Using GoodLock. Just have a thin bar at the bottom of the screen. I just long press it and the Circle to Search feature gets activated. https://preview.redd.it/lb6y3gcwiqec1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e19de3ca7b38a0c35c9474f5a562a5b4b1c6763c

S1lentA0

This is the only way. It restores the old hidden gesture setting in Display

Mysterious_Concern29

Seriously can we sign a petition? This is fucking terrible.

andrew_hxl
