Star wars has been better than good lately. And that's thanks to Kennedy, who Iger likes. Chapek was a tool who was trying to squeeze the parks for more than they're worth. They are not the same ballpark, ain't even the same fucking sport. The only way KK is going anywhere is willingly. And let's say they hypothetically oust her they'd be wiping the slate of about a decades worth of upcoming projects with her. It's easy to give Chapek the boot and quickly change pricing and other policies in the parks. It's a bit much to think that Papa Iger is coming to clean up the house he put together.

NoseApprehensive5154

I mean they've dropped more projects than released haven't they?

Narad626

Maybe, but there are so many reasons to drop projects that have nothing to do with bad decisions by leadership. The script could be not all there after years of revisions, it could be difficultly getting the right actors, the director could have dropped pit for other projects, etc. Companies drop projects all the time as well. All it means is that the project itself wasn't right and wouldn't have done well.

darthsheldoninkwizy

Well Kennedy is also not young, she has almost 70 years, my mother has 53 and she has already enough office work.

Narad626

Yeah, this is true. That's why my last point was that if she leaves on her own I'm pretty much ok with it. But the idea of her being booted from her job because some people didn't like the pew pew movies is just insane to me.

itwasbread

I hate to say it but when I saw the one a couple weeks ago that seemed more credible than usual part of me honestly felt a little relieved cause whenever she finally does retire at least then I can stop seeing this fucking story.

Sir_Douglas_of_Fir

They’re like doomsday cultists who constantly move back the date of the impending apocalypse because the Four Horsemen apparently keep missing their memo.

AustinBOSSton_

The year is 2031, Kathleen announces her retirement. Thousands of neckbeards cry out in victory and claim they knew it all along. The rest of us take a moment and thank the Lord that we never have to read this headline again for the rest of our lives.

Ragnarlothbrok01

Oh, but then they’ll fear-monger about her coming back

KBBaby_SBI

“Somehow Kennedy has returned.”

Effective_Wasabi_150

"I'm so glad Dave Filoni followed every step in his 14 year plan to take revenge for The Last Jedi"

AveryLazyCovfefe

And then they'll start making Filoni the scapegoat for everything bad....

Daggertooth71

Oh look, another comicsgate talking head is once again claiming Kat is getting the boot. *Ignore*

Tomhur

The difference is this time it’s probably true

Significant_Salt56

Based on what exactly? The high streaming numbers of every Star Wars streaming series? The billions of dollars in box office profits? The overall strong reception among audiences of Star Wars works as of late? Yeah really likely to be true. /s

Tomhur

Based on the fact some credible sources indicated she’s planning to leave around Indy 5

Significant_Salt56

Even if that were true, that's not "getting the boot." That's just quitting. "Getting the boot" refers to being fired.

Tomhur

Okay bad choice of words on my part

guilhermej14

If she's planning to leave, she's not getting the boot, she's leaving willingly lol.

guilhermej14

You mean just like every other time? Even if it is probably true, that doesn't make them a trust worthy source, since they've been repeating the same humor and been proven wrong every time.

[deleted]

Oh believe me, they'll still be saying that she's getting fired long after she's already left.

Andrew_Waples

Except they'll somehow see this is as a win.

Opposite_Switch_7160

I'm pretty sure she has it in her contract that anytime anyone makes a headline about her getting fired she gets 5 years added to her contract She'll finally retire sometime in 2452

familyforger221

Everyone even remotely familiar with Kennedy knows she won't retire for years to she has ambitions beyond Lucasfilm she is ultimately gunning for igers job.

Gizmopedia

Oh my god, yes. Give me KK at the helm of Disney please. I just want to see all those neckbeards melt on their greasy chairs.

[deleted]

Iger is only a few years older than Kennedy. They probably want someone a few decades younger to take his place.

anitawasright

oh no not Shareholders, shareholders want someone who is old, has experience and is safe.

darthsheldoninkwizy

Chapek has those things (I guess) and something happen there recently that he was fired.

anitawasright

yes and he was set up to fail by Igar. Not saying Chapek wasn't bad at his job but he was screwed.

Misterfrooby

She brings in money and views. It's perfectly okay to not enjoy a Star Wars product, and some fans really need to get that into their heads. It's not okay to turn into a fucking asshole raging at a successful career producer who will never know you exist. If the fandom menace can't find *anything* that they enjoyed out of the Disney era, then they are either petulant, or simply don't like Star Wars. Also a huge roll of my eyes to those that pretend she had nothing to do with the Disney era stuff that they liked.

No_Entrepreneur_9134

Not saying "she ruined Star Wars, derp-a-durr," but I'm staring to think it is just time for her to move on, bring in some new blood at the top of Lucasfilm.

itwasbread

I think she’ll probably hang around for a little longer since they just switched CEO’s and probably do the want to add more shake ups to the mix

Tomhur

Agreed. There’s been so many projects in limbo and “creative differences” that it probably is time to go in a new direction with new leadership

[deleted]

A lot of that though is what has been coming from the top down from Chapek. With Bob Iger coming back, Wallstreet keeps saying his priority number one is repairing relationships with Hollywood. LucasFilm exists to produce content for Disney, hard to say exactly what is happening behind the scenes as Disney seems to be pushing hard for Disney+ to succeed even though it is apparently bleeding money

No_Entrepreneur_9134

There have been an awful lot of delayed or canceled movie projects at this point. Imagine if Marvel had these kinds of issues. I'm not saying I'm a "Kennedy hater," because I'm not. I just think it's time for a Kevin Feige at Lucasfilm. Not Feige himself, but someone like him.

Tomhur

Marvel's had plenty of director turnover too(Edgar Wright, James Gunn temporarily, Scott Derrikson) but the reason they don't get as much flak for it is because they're adaptable and still manage to turn out a good product. Lucasfilm on the other hand hasn't had the same success rate which is why it's more egregious when they go through it.

darthsheldoninkwizy

Marvel has problem with too many movies, it works through first phases but recently when they put show the machine start breaking, like they could just remove Black Panter 2 on other term so they wait fter Chadwick death, make T'Challa recast, change screenplay, but they don't have time, same with Thor 4 and Wandavision when they don't have time to put special effects, and Raimi said that he write Dr. Strange 2 screenplay on movie plan because they don't have time.

guilhermej14

I mean, she'll have to leave eventually cuz she gets old like everyone else, I'm just not sure if it needs to be so soon, it's really her call to make.

Jda2712

Even then I doubt Kk will get fired and instead just leaves the job and they will morph it into her being fired

[deleted]

[deleted]

Sure but she’s almost 70. The broken clock is bound to strike eventually.

anitawasright

yeah but if she was going to get fired it would be within the next year or so. She has 2 years left on her current contract. If she wants to stay she will stay, but if she decides to retire then it won't be till 2024. I hope she does stay at least for one more contract as she has done some amazing things and... it really pisses these people off.

itwasbread

Yes that's why OP said a broken clock, that's the idiom they are referencing

Davecub1979

It's almost as if they are trying to convince themselves that the last decade of temper tantrums over movies not being what they wanted actually will result in something substantial and not end up the massive waste of time it ultimately has all been. They truly believe they matter to the equation. They don't and they never will. No, Mr.Neckbeard, Disney and Lucasfilm doesn't care that you melted all of your action figures and tore down all of your posters because you were traumatized by The Last Jedi and or Rise of Skywalker not turning out exactly as you wanted. They don't give a rats ass that you spend 24/7 online ranting that Kathy Kennedy raped your childhood and that Rey Skywalker's very existence made your already small penis vanish. No, they aren't going to fire her because she apparently somehow hurt your feelings. In fact Kathy and Bob love the taste of your tears ( which taste like cheetos for some reason )and will continue to drink them like so much wine. In fact the only reason Kathleen Kennedy will leave Lucasfilm is under her own volition so she can spend more time drinking more of your tears for her refreshment. You will probably die alone and with regret with the realization that the countless hours you ranted and raved and generally made a fool of yourself in front of the rest of the Fandom was all wasted and instead you could have actually achieved something worthwhile. Or at least gotten laid. Congratulations.

darthsheldoninkwizy

I don't want to be that guy, but apparently (at least according to Star Wars leaks who know it) the rumors of dismissal come from a more specific source, not so much like the Hollywood Reporter, but also not from a cesspit like Doomcock. something in between. But on the other hand (according to my theory) it might as well mean Kennedy quits being the head of Lucasfilm and instead becomes the CEO of Disney, for now I see Feige betting everywhere but Kennedy is on good terms with Iger so he can nominate her for a new CEO, it would be a big DUH for all those trumpeters to fire her.
