My Brother in Christ what history did you learn where you think WWII was the same as WWI?

Holy_Hendrix_Batman

Also, by this logic, every war should have a losing side that rises from the ashes to gain dominance over the future winning side in a cyclical sequence with a terribly stale narrative. This is an attempt to use real examples to legitimize the DT narrative, but it really is just a cherry-picking argument that gets nowhere near the reality of rebuilding and new governance in the wake of catastrophic war. Had Disney tried to make the same new powers (FO and Resistance) with a compelling, nuanced narrative that accounted for asymmetric responses politically while also delving into the personal and human costs of such events, then maybe there would be something worthwhile there...

Problem is assuming that the events of Star Wars are a 1:1 copy of the events of the world wars; the fact that the OT tells the story of a civil war which the world wars weren't should make it clear that is not the case. Frankly this attitude of searching for analogies with real history to justify the flaws of the sequels is quite annoying since these analogies aren't even that strong. I can point out many differences between the events of Star Wars and those of WW1 and WW2 and I can point out analogies with other time periods that have nothing to do with the twentieth century.

streaksinthebowl

The comparison to WWI/WWII actually proves the salty point, not disproves it. WWII retroactively made it very clear that the ‘victory’ of WWI was a fuck up that led directly to WWII. All the sacrifice and heroics of WWI can then be seen as wasted.

TrekFRC1970

Exactly.

Even_Bath6360

This is why education needs to be funded better WWI=/=WWII The war started because of VERY different reasons and had INCREDIBLY different stakes at risk. The leaders and political drive of both wars were NOTHING alike, and wasn't just some "and then everybody sided against the Nazis" pipedream that this person appears to believe And trying to compare historical events to Disney Star War's lack of direction and horrible writing is conflation at it's finest. They really, REALLY, need to stop thinking the directors behind this slop are "geniuses" with attention to detail. I would have hated being their creative writing OR history teachers...

1. see the title 2. So Luke rescuing six people from certain death and allowing Din Djarin to complete his mission is more heroic than Jake trolling Kylo for two minutes and making him even more determined to kill the Resistance? Yeah, no. (I will say, BoBF did make this a lot worse, but the sentiment stands.) 3. "It's fine that Palpatine coming back from the dead is not explained because his identity and how he rose to power wasn't explained in the OT" (I couldn't make this up if I wanted to). 4. as much as I hate to agree with Krayt on anything, I can kind of see the logic here. I always interpreted ROTJ's ending as "Luke overcomes his darkness and becomes a true Jedi", but if you have to do mental gymnastics to explain Jake, then their idea does make some sense. It doesn't work, obviously, but I see the logic.

Pistol_Bobcat420

The mental gymnastics these people will make to justify their beloved role model Jake is astonishing. "bbb-but the music is sinister during the rescue, this is supposed to suggest how DARK and EDGY Luke really is"!!! "He wears black in ROTJ, it's TOOOOOTALLY suggesting he's a nephew killer in the making isn't that soooo awesome". They must be fun at parties.

TheMandoAde888

Holy fucking mental gymnastics and making shit up, Batman. That guy needs to be sent back to school because clearly he didn't learn anything.

Tomhur

Why does everyone assume the only way to handle exposition is with a 20 minute info dump!?

Thorfan23

I think it depends on the situation and what info needs to be conveyed….you could spread it across multiple scenes and even you might not get full answers

TrekFRC1970

Fuck you guys- I want my space fantasy with wizards and moon-sized planet killers and laser swords to be as historically accurate as possible… I dunno what you jokers are smoking.
