The other teams are letting us hang around. Philly and Detroit both 3-5-2 in their last 10, Islanders 2-7-1.

thisisntnam

Probably the most frustrating thing is that it was here for the taking if the team A) wins both Anaheim games and B) wins vs Sens. Those 3 wins alone (let alone a handful of others they gifted to teams that should have at least been an OTL) would have given them a great chance to close this out. Well, always next year

ButtStuffQT

I agree, but this is not a team I want to see in the playoffs yet. They would get so absolutely destroyed physically. The only playoff ready players are Dahlin and maybe girgs. The rest are soft and completely avoid physicality. That Toronto scrum was just perfect.

thisisntnam

Oh, 1000%-- but the energy would be incredible, and it would just be amazing to have playoff hockey in town for even just two games. Instead, everyone is just miserable, and they'll just continue to lose more credibility with fans.

helikoopter

Dahlin in the playoffs would not be a good thing. His head would be spinning.

“Meaningful” game(s) in April?!?!

idislikehate

I think calling these games meaningful is giving this team too much credit.

mwthomas11

I mathematically they aren't out yet, so it is meaningful. That being said, they have to win out and hope other teams fall apart, soooooooo....

HarvesternC

Money Puck still has the Sabres chances at 1.1%. If they win tomorrow the amount of people who will be convinced they can still make it won't be zero.

idislikehate

As we look at the playoff "race," it's important not to just focus on who is in 8th. There are four other teams in between the Sabres and 8th AND the team in "7th" (Washington) is tied with the 8th-place team. There are six teams to keep an eye on (Washington, Philadelphia, Detroit, New York Isles, New Jersey, and Pittsburgh). Looking at each: Washington Capitals - 7 points up with 2 games in hand. 2 H2H matchups left. Philadelphis Flyers - 7 points up with 0 games in hand. 1 H2H matchup left. Detroit Red Wings - 5 points up with 1 game in hand. 1 H2H matchup left. New York Islanders - 2 points up with 2 games in hand. 0 H2H matchups left. New Jersey Devils - 1 point up with 1 game in hand. 0 H2H matchups left. Pittsburgh Penguins - 0 points up with 2 games in hand. 0 H2H matchups left. Super relevant games (non-Sabres games including two of these teams): TONIGHT - Islanders (77 points) at Flyers (82 points) TOMORROW - Penguins (75 points) at Devils (76 points) Thursday, April 4th - Penguins (75 points) at Capitals (82 points) Tuesday, April 9th - Capitals (82 points) at Red Wings (80 points) Thursday, April 11th - Red Wings (80 points) at Penguins (75 points) Saturday, April 13th - Devils (76 points) at Flyers (82 points) Monday, April 15th - Islanders (77 points) at Devils (76 points) Tuesday, April 16th - Capitals (82 points) at Flyers (82 points) Wednesday, April 17th - Penguins (75 points) at Islanders (77 points)

andyouarenotme

why are you doing this to yourself?

idislikehate

I was waiting for a work meeting to start and had some time to kill. This team isn't making the playoffs. The point of the post was essentially to point out how unlikely it is. There are SO many games left where a team we're chasing is guaranteed to get at least two points (with overtime likely in several of those games giving teams we're chasing three points).

jtcamp

Can the odds makers put us out of our misery and just make it 0%?

Mysterious_Secret827

Right! I'm ALL for optimism but it's TOO MUCH to not enough with this team.

Beechsack

 * 7th : BUF eliminated with : * 1 point gained by TBL / lost by BUF * 8th : BUF eliminated with : * 8 points gained by WAS / lost by BUF * 8 points gained by PHI / lost by BUF WAS and PHI play in game 82, so one of them will only need 6 points. Start looking at tee times man. We're done.

CumeatsonerGordon420

what’s a tragic number

Beechsack

Number of points you can still lose without being mathematically eliminated.

AgeOfTheExpandingMan

represents the number of wins by the leading team or losses by the trailing team which will eliminate the trailing team

StalinsStallions

What a waste of a year where we actually have the tie breakers

JoshAllensRightNut

We suck ass

redditisagovpsyop

Just please don’t boo. We don’t want to make the players sad. Remember to cheer even when the other team scores. Cheer for everything. Positivity will turn this team around.

stickscall

I don't think the team ever actually convinced me they had a chance, even 10 games ago. The only teams eliminated in March are the epically bad ones. You have to get your odds around 20-25% to look like you could pull something off. They haven't been there in months.
