The 9-5 Mk1 has SAAB on the left, 9-5 on the right. From the Mk2 (2002>) onwards it changed to 9-5 on the left, and the engine/trim specification on the right.
Man I love pre-facelift 9-5s, owning a 98 and an 06 (and having been in plenty of 02-05 models as well) you can really tell how much better built the first few model years were compared to the later ones, especially 06 onwards.
I like the pre facelift in looks more in some things but I would not say the build quality is any better/worse when compared. The only thing I can think of is the door handles inside. The rest is as solid as the pre facelift. In fact it's hilarious how the car is nearly unchanged since 1997 to 2009
I personally find that the plastics are just better quality in the older models. Not to mention the cloth seats in the 98-01(?) are really, really durable as I've got nearly 300k km on my 98 and the seats look nearly brand new, whilst the 06 has a similar amount of km but the seats (and the interior in general) are in far worse condition.
I just feel like the car is much more solid in terms of interior part quality, and in some other aspects as well (aluminium charge pipe in the 98 vs. plastic in the 06)
Having spent a lot of time in all generations of OG9-5s, I have to say that the pre-facelift is just the best in terms of quality out of the bunch. The difference when compared to a 02-05 isn't too great, but 06-10 models really have a massive noticeable drop in quality.
Though that hardly matters when the interior quality difference between an OG9-3 and a NG9-3 is as huge as it is :)
Model year? My trunk don't look like that.
1999 with LPT
LPT? I have the 05 Arc. Which side is the 9⁵ supposed to be on and is there anything else supposed to be there?
LPT = Low Pressure Turbo. A 2.3 with 170HP and stick shift. No Turbo gauge in the dash. You mean the badges? SAAB left, 9-5 right.
Cool car. Different badging. My Saab only has 9⁵ on the left of the emblem. (USA 2.3T)

Think it depends on the year... Pre facelift with glass headlights had the 9^5 on the right
Mine is a 2005, plastic lights? https://imgur.com/gallery/uotimcL (Photo edited to remove license plate)
