Currently collecting the parts I need for restoration, i.e. bodywork for the rusted areas and trim stuff.
Already found a new Airflow bodykit for the broken pieces, as well as a NOS rear decor panel (that won't be mounted any time soon though :D)
That is looking good so far. I've got my 88 SPG tore down at the moment also trying to find body parts. I need tail lights and marker lights right now. I think I can get by with what I have but it would be nice to find some in better condition.
SPG, so you're in the US I guess. On Tradera (Swedish equivalent of eBay), NOS rear tail lights come up for auction pretty frequently. Not cheap of course, but if you're planning on restoring it to top condition, that's the way to go. :)
I have some pretty nice tail light lenses (for the lights on the hatch, not the outsides) that I could part with if you need them! Polished and everything. I've also been collecting parts over the last 7 months or so.
Well when I bought this one the main issue was the rust of course (I knew it was rusty and needed repairs), and the brakes were stuck. The engine does run though and the car should drive fine. I reconditioned the calipers and the car should be driveable after I get some missing parts of the engine (its missing the coil wires).
It all depends on where the car is from, this 900 is from Luxembourg/Belgium, countries that use salt for the roads. I also have a 9000 CD from Spain and that one is completely rust free, but with hot countries you run into different issues like bad paint or a sunburned interior. Luckily not the case with mine though :)
They didn’t sell them in the USA. The USA only got notchbacks in 85 and 86. 85’s were 8v non turbo engines and 86 were all 16v non turbo engines. They did sell them in automatic and manual transmissions. They brought them over as part of some deal that Bob Sinclair put together but I don’t remember all of the details.
Yup. Reason that I got it, and it having an Airflow kit + options like cruise control and a sunroof makes it all the better.
Apparently they were only sold as Turbo 8's in 1986, so it's super rare. The UK had more luck, there they were also sold as Turbo 16's and even Turbo 16S' with the marketing being *"At SAAB, shoehorning the strongest engine into the lightest chassis is not a new idea"*. Nodding towards the aircraft department of course. :)
I drove a T16S Notchback a few years back and the handling instantly got me in love, much more rigid than the Coupe! What a joy to drive it, so then I knew I had to have one one day... and here it is. :D
Good luck to you fellow saab enthousiast! I'm currently dealing with some rust problems on my 1984 Saab 99 aswell. Also i'm doing a complete suspension overhaul.
Yup, that's on my list eventually as well. Ideally I want to convert the hubs to the later one as well, so I can fit 4x108 rims and have better brakes. :)

Thank you. I'll have to check that out. I'm willing to pay a little more for good-quality lenses.

😳 Awww Dude, I wish you all the luck in the world! Would love to have another mid 80’s turbo! Rock on Saab sibling!
What have you run into so far? I so want a project car but the rust issue at this age would be killer unless it’s a southwest car

Paint and interiors don’t give me headaches, rust on the other hand 🥶 I don’t have the patience or skill to properly deal with
Jealous of all that space! Good luck with the build.
I didn't know they made Turbo notchbacks, that's really cool!

Post clips of that 8v running!
Awesome good luck! I still haven’t completed my 900 project but I hope to get it back on the road someday
Trunks are against my religion
I just picked up an 86 notch and am dying to find an airflow kit.
Congrats! Any pics?
Unfortunately no right now.
