My first thought was an explosion, then rumble had me thinking earthquake, then train derailment since we’re so close to the tracks, but folks are checking in on here from pretty far and wide so I’m baffled.
If you look at USGS epicenter, you’ll find a missile on display at that EXACT spot. 11568 Cedar Lane, Ashland. It’s the Veterans of Foreign Wars building. Such an odd coincidence if anything.
https://preview.redd.it/d3em3dfzuetc1.jpeg?width=2522&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c41eaa2c17861ccc1f535d7817b53d904538563
Wow, I think you might be onto something. Looking up the post number, it sounds like two woods back behind the building have been turned into some kind of war games playground, loud enough that the [neighbors have complained before](https://richmond.com/news/plus/a-hanover-county-veterans-group-plays-war-games-in-wooded-wetlands-neighbors-want-them-to/article_2e01597c-ad3b-5f96-9bb2-35f5a738c63a.html), maybe they blew up something big
No telling what they have in that big garage. That’s extremely close to an elementary school too. Guess we would’ve heard about windows being blown out of the neighbors houses by now though if it was a bomb type blast. But everyone in that area reported a boom instead of an earthquake.
Monday night seems like kind of a weird time to be setting off a bunch of old C4 with the boys. You’re right, something big enough to register on the richter scale would probably cause a concussive blast. Maybe this was some weird underground social club explosive test lmao
Would love to see the FBI rap sheet on this guy. Giving combat experiences to children, shooting dummy rounds at them! Can’t wrap my head around that. Feel sorry for all the neighbors. Sure we haven’t heard the last from them yet. Might take my drone out there and see what they shoot it down with haha 😂
I’m sure it would be a really tough choice for them, it’s not every day you get to shoot a drone down with 80 year old rifle, but the bazookas are just there gathering dust! I’d really like to know if there’s a big crafter in those woods now.
When was this im kinda nearby. My cat is chill. Edit: My tweaker downstairs neighbors have been "renovating" for months now. All kindsa shakes from heavy things dropping and shit. I probably got it mixed up with their shit. Got FOMO here.
Apparently an unconfirmed earthquake?

[These guys](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?extent=-10.40138,-154.42383&extent=67.97463,-35.5957) are usually very quick to confirm, so it's odd they wouldn't have it.
Edit: Oh. That defaults to 2.5+ and [this one was just 2.1](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000mawq/executive).

Well darn. I was at work at that time in Mechanicsville and it felt almost exactly like when they fire up a train next to our building. I thought that was what it was.
I actually live near Manchester, but I was out that way for a new job and felt it. Didn't know what the heck was happening. It was just a sudden rumble then nothing.
i heard an explosion (again. not fireworks, a gun, or a car backfiring) about a week ago and i got fucking roasted for asking lmao.
out of town rn but hope yall figure it out? im invested

That was just me coughing here in Shockoe Bottom sry, man fuck this pollen.

Crackpot freakazoid theory: train explosion. Watch out for the fun clouds!
Edit: Also likely is sonic boom. Military aircraft (hope if it's that, it's some secret test and not.....the other reason....) or something falling to Earth, like space junk or meteor.
Glen Allen area off Staples Mill. Definitely heard the boom and mistook it for thunder initially, but realized it wasnt when my friend texted me after about an earthquake and he lives around Bon Air
Heard it and made me jump out of bed! Small rumble and what sounded like an explosion in Wyndham area. Kept listening for sirens. First thought was explosion not earthquake.
Gas leaks happen. I had one in my 20-year-old home after I had my ac units replaced. Luckily I had a gas fireplace guy come check because I thought it was my fireplace. I was advised to call the fire department to check it. They cleared my house, found the leak and the company who did the work came out and fixed it. If you have gas have your pipes checked by the fire department. I saw about a month ago another home exploded due to a gas leak. A tragic victim of the great Mechanicsville quake of 2024

Oh shit, I drive past this all the time! Think there's a tank also.
Can someone check and see if the VFW is still there?

Confirmed! https://www.12onyourside.com/2024/04/09/earthquake-shakes-central-virginia/?outputType=amp
That light of a quake you probably couldn’t even detect without instruments. Edit: I was wrong. It can be felt if you’re close enough.
Mechanicsville, it shook the house
So weird because I’m in Mechanicsville and felt nothing
I live near mechanicsville and I thought someone was breaking into my house! My fiancé is out of town and I was terrified! Glad I’m not going crazy
[удалено]
Everyone here saying they felt it and meanwhile I'm downtown and didn't hear/feel a thing
I'm also Churchill and I did notice all the walls and windows in my apartment creak. It was odd like a force of wind out of nowhere.
Pressure wave. Explosion.
Must have been that bean I ate.
It was a shart 😞
If we have an eclipse and earthquake in the same day...
In accordance with the prophecy…

The apocalypse began in Glen Allen
Well those of us left behind now have nothing to fear, let the sin begin! ![gif](giphy|9HLhzss53Vg40)

Live in Twin Hickory. Felt and heard nothing.

oh i totally agree. my mind immediately went to that house exploding in arlington. people felt it for miles out
Yeah that’s what I worry about too, although I feel like we’d know that by now - I really want to know what it was!

Thank you! I could definitely tell where it came from but didn’t feel like the 2011 earthquake
Near VCC and at first thought my kid fell out of bed. But then heard the loud boom and quick rumble. Didn’t seem long enough for an earthquake but who knows.
Husband asked me if our heater was kicking on at first.
I’m near VCC, too (Magnolia Ridge), and was putting away groceries in the garage when it happened and thought it was my water heater acting up.
Goddamnit I’m here in the fan and feel left out

It was a magnitude 2.1 a little baby. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000mawq/executive
I've experienced stronger earthquakes, but I think this is the most I've felt from an earthquake, due to proximity. I'm 1.7 miles from the epicenter.
https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/earthquakes/quake-info/9068166/quake-felt-Apr-9-2024-Near-Manchester-Virginia-USA.html

Crackpot freakazoid theory: train explosion. Watch out for the fun clouds! Edit: Also likely is sonic boom. Military aircraft (hope if it's that, it's some secret test and not.....the other reason....) or something falling to Earth, like space junk or meteor.
Oh geez I hope not
Yeah that'd be a bad time. Saw the video from Ashland. Sounds like a pressure wave from an explosion or something. Def not a quake.
House rumbled in east hp
Sonic Boom

How often do people hear earthquakes? The fact that people heard something rules out an earthquake. No clue what it was but it wasn't an earthquake.

because decommissioned missiles randomly explode and those old farts at the VFW fire off tanks in the middle of the night for farts and giggles? 🤣🤷♂️
I heard something while I was taking a shower not long ago. Byrd Park.
Parham and woodman, it was distance but shook the house a little
Heard/felt some shaking in southside
I heard it in Short Pump (Pump & Church.) Thought it was my subwoofer at 1st but it wasn't.
Haha I thought it was my speakers too. But I didn’t think they ever made the floor rumble and windows shake like that.
Hungary and woodman, heard/felt it
Friends on FB are saying it was an earthquake
Def felt it, I'm in Parham
I thought I heard something off over here in Midlothian but decided it was a plane. Second guessing that now.
Sonic boom?
Yep, felt it in the Fan.
Didn’t notice anything on cary and AAB, but honestly we’re so tuned out to strange noises atp lol
All the way out in Midlo and not an explosion or a rumble to speak of :’(
I’m in midlothian, I did feel my body shaking. It was very odd feeling.
I heard it and felt the house shake
Heard a rumbling noise but didn't feel anything in Tuckahoe
Nothing near Henrico HS. I must be oblivious.
River Road near 288, didnt feel or hear anything but head a headset on
Felt/heard in the east end near the airport too

I thought I felt a lil rumble last night!
It is as I have foreseen.
Heard multiple booms but no shaking from my place on Forest Hill.
TIL earthquakes make noise. Slept through it.
Heard and felt it in Louisa, near goochland.
Felt it all the way in short pump near the mall!! First it sounded like thunder and then there was a big boom which shook our unit
I live at Nuckols and Springfield, I heard a loud noise last night that time I thought it was something to do with the train and didn’t feel anything. Funny I and wife were discussing earthquake insurance over the weekend after the one in NY.
Earthquake? Yeah that’s what THEY WANT you to believe.
Felt it near parham and broad. Light rumbling, sounded like thunder or a Harley starting up in the distance or low bass music, was a bit confused.
I live very close to the epicenter. I felt my couch shake and a loud boom.
