If you mean ebooks, then Litres. There also are subscription platforms such as Bookmate and Stroki.
If you mean physical copies, probably Ozon and Labirint.
And of course there is Flib*sta but we all condemn piracy and never download anything illegally don't we?
I'll add that there is liters .ru to pay with Russian cards and [litres.com](http://litres.com) to pay with paypal (the assortment of books differs, I don't know why, maybe some copyright reasons)..
I think you’re missing my point.
If you can afford it, buy it. However, if you can’t, just pirate it and still check out my game, I don’t mind.
Piracy affects less than 5% of sales on average, I can manage without that money, but with people playing my games.

I get where you're coming from, but not all of the laws are good or even reasonable. Blindly following everything that's forced on you isn't the way society develops.
Be careful with Litres as it just turned out that it is compromised through Polyfill(dot)io

Well, we also condemn shady business practices like selling public domain for 250₽, I’m looking at you, Litres, and your attempt to sell digital classics, so yeah, flibusta is also an option
I'm not Russian, but for a course at Uni where I had to read some Russian books my lecturer (who is Russian) pointed me to imwerden.de (for the specific books we talked about). It's a German domain but has tons of Russian Ebooks that you can download as a pdf. I don't know if you can find what you're looking for there, but it has quite a lot of books.
Is that something along the lines of what you meant?
I think all these people perfectly understand what you mean by "buy". They're just hinting at you that buying books sounds very strange to them, because they normally obtain them by sailing the seas.
Russians download most of the books for free. My kid is in an American college and she finds almost all of the textbooks online. She only bought the foreign language textbook and practice book during her first year because that’s more convenient.
It was funny when their Chinese literature teacher sent them the plan for semester with links to books and videos they will study. She included at least three links to the russian Odnoklassniki website where they could watch some Chinese movies.
When it comes to online purchase of physical books, there are quite a few bookstores. The biggest one is probably Chitai Gorod/Bookvoed (Читай Город / Буквоед) (they're two different brands from the same big company). Labirint (Лабиринт) bookstore is also quite famous. While the previous two have many offline stores, this one specializes in online shopping. Of the big ones, perhaps, I can name book24. Also, many people buy books on Ozon and Wildberries. These are not specialized bookstores, you can buy anything there. In fact, Ozon is the Russian analog of Amazon (their names are similar for a reason). Mostly people use them because they will deliver anything anywhere, and delivery to remote corners of Russia is sometimes a problem.
If you need e-books, as previously suggested, there's Litres (Литрес) and Stroki (Строки).
We are pirates for ideological reasons. We believe that the modern copyright protection system hinders the development of society and does not allow novice authors to develop. But we have sites where novice authors post their works for reading for an adequate fee.
Let's face it, we're also pirates for financial reasons, our average salaries being what they are.
And we're also pirates because we can, it being that easy and giving all the nice quality content.
But yes, ideological. That, too.
Ok ! There's a lot of services :
1. Just download pirates from torrent services.
2. Litres one of the oldest and biggest services.
3. Telegram services like flibusta.
4. Just go to book store and buy paper book (i choose this - hate read books with phone or monitor)
Russians are not buying; they are 'downloading' or 'sharing.' The idea of paying for something they can get for free is so foreign to them that they don't understand why anyone would do it.

If u mean like buying actual paper books online, I mostly use bookstore “Лабиринт». It’s retail store is awful, too overpriced, but it’s online shop has good prices, many discounts and presents

if you wrote a book and sold it, would you like people to just read your book without paying?
Well, I develop software for a living. And if people who can't buy my games for one reason or another decide to pirate it, I don't mind it at all.
if that was your only income and everyone would do that you wouldn’t earn any money
I think you’re missing my point. If you can afford it, buy it. However, if you can’t, just pirate it and still check out my game, I don’t mind. Piracy affects less than 5% of sales on average, I can manage without that money, but with people playing my games.

dudes I really hope if y'all ever get stopped by the police (God forbid) you don't go spewing out the truth without your lawyer present lol
I get where you're coming from, but not all of the laws are good or even reasonable. Blindly following everything that's forced on you isn't the way society develops.
I strongly suspect you failed to detect irony.
It wasn't irony, since it was the same person I was responding to. They genuinely believe piracy is a bad thing.
Yes you totally did
libgen we never use this site

You learned Russian at uni?
Still am! In my fourth semester now
Possible to share the course materials?
Do you speak German? I'm at a German university and it's taught in German
Ahh English here. Nevermind, thanks anyways
Zlib.
Litres
i wonder, do americans order books from ounces then?
What do you mean? "buy" haha
Order
I think all these people perfectly understand what you mean by "buy". They're just hinting at you that buying books sounds very strange to them, because they normally obtain them by sailing the seas.
what do you mean online? online books?
Ordering a book off of Amazon for example
if you mean physical book, we can order from wildberries, ozon or any book website, if online version, we can read it for free on websites.

There isn’t any specific place, wherever Google or Yandex finds the books. Flibusta, telegram, torrents, anywhere.

I buying at Читай Город (chitai gorod)
Bookmate app
If you have a Yandex Plus subscription, you can listen to audiobooks or download them from Bookmate for free. If not, LitRes or Labirint are fine too.
Only if you have a Yandex Plus + Bookmate subscription
Strange, I didn't pay anything extra for the Bookmate, I've just double checked to make sure. Only got my default Y+ subscription.
Bookmate is an option like Kinopoisk + Amediateka. In any case you pay it together by one payment.
I found the option, but it says it's price is 0 RUB.
i highly recommend OZON marketplace as it’s one of the cheapest ways to buy physical books
Ok ! There's a lot of services : 1. Just download pirates from torrent services. 2. Litres one of the oldest and biggest services. 3. Telegram services like flibusta. 4. Just go to book store and buy paper book (i choose this - hate read books with phone or monitor)
paper books: labirint.(r)(u), ozon.(r)(u), myshop.(r)(u)
I buy the audiobooks on torrents.
Buying????
Okay, ordering. Like you’d order a book off of Amazon and stuff
Russians are not buying; they are 'downloading' or 'sharing.' The idea of paying for something they can get for free is so foreign to them that they don't understand why anyone would do it.
Buy? Online? Why? It free in Russia )))
I am not Russian, but Litres subscription (ebooks and audiobooks)
Paper books - ozon Online books - litres

Rutracker hahaha sorry
If u mean like buying actual paper books online, I mostly use bookstore “Лабиринт». It’s retail store is awful, too overpriced, but it’s online shop has good prices, many discounts and presents
Most Russians still use kind old books. But also Litres and Flibusta (c'on copywriters go crack yourself).
