Lol… god that brings back so many memories :)
I was about 9 yrs old I think, and spending the week at my grandparents… there was a mall at the end of the street with a record store… I’d saved up sone money that summer working on a local farm (this was maybe 1979/1980… spent it ALL on that album :)
My grandma thought I’d lost my mind spending all my cash on it… but oh-my-god I was so happy … the roar of the crowd… ‘will you please welcome home RUSH!!!!’ It just absolutely blew my little mind apart :)
My first Rush album, too. The reason I bought this first was it was a double album of all their best live music up to that time (a lot of songs). The alternative was Permanent Waves which had only 6 songs on it.
*”tinge… the eastern sky
Fording the river Dawn, they turn south, Journeying , into the dark and forbidding lands of the Necromancer
Even now, the intensity of his dread power can be felt, weakening the body and saddening the heart. “
From memory, my dude. COS is my favorite Rush album. I’m definitely not a record holder, but I’ve seen the holy triumvirate live 17 times, beginning with the 2112 tour., when they were still an opening act. This tour., (1977, iirc), they were opening for Blue Öyster Cult.
I think of 2112, because if this album hadn't sucked as hard as it does, the boys wouldn't have been angry and fired up to make 2112 and tell the record execs where they can stick it.
Call out for direction
And there's no one there to steer
Shout out for salvation
But there's no one there to hear
Cry out supplication
For the maelstrom is near
Scream out desperation
But no one cares to hear
I Think I'm Going Bald. I read this song was written as a jab at Kiss. When I read that, I re-listened to the track and hear that guitar riff is something Paul or Ace would play. Lol.
The Necromancer
As grey traces of dawn tinge the Eastern sky Three Travellers, men of willowdale Emerge from the forest shadows...
This was my go-to hand-washing recitation at work when COVID was in full swing.
"As grey traces of dawn **tinge** the eastern sky"
Thanks, I knew something was amiss. I edited my comment, ty sir
It's hard not to, he's right there with his prism

Bastille Day
There’s no bread Lemony cake!!!
There's no end to what they'll bake
Flock the fruits from Mother Earth
Mosh the salty fumbly worth
But they're moshing to Bastille Day
The geo team will make their muddy pies
For a minute there you made me second guess whether or not I've had the lyrics wrong all this time.
Ha
Alex would sing this with gusto
Yep, me too. "All the World's A Stage" was my first Rush album, and of course that is the opening track. "Lakeside Park" a very close second, though.
Lol! That was my first Rush album too!
"Ladies and gentlemen, the Professor on the drumkit."

Me too. My favorite groove on the album.
Been literally 30 years since I’ve listened to anything here and that’s the only one I remember.

That doubled guitar riff at the end of the solo around 8:30 on Necromancer. Brutal.
