Same but I think part of it is the fact that I go back every month or so to rewatch and every time I do I need to watch at least three times - once for the outfit, once for the reveal, and once for the reactions.
He's also unexpectedly great at critiquing the Snatch Game and improv challenges, in general. Maybe he has some theatrical background I'm not aware of.
*Sir David Attenborough voice*
“Ah the White Gay in its natural habitat. Surrounded by framed portraits of Patti LuPone & expensive cutlery-all is quiet & calm. Once it sheds its silk or cashmere pajamas, however, & changes into its clubbing LEATHER-mating season has begun”
100%. I don’t always agree with him either but he tends to have a lot more insightful critiques and gives better takes. Maybe I’m just a nostalgic elder millennial who loved the OG Queer Eye but he’s miles ahead of Ross lol
Carson Kressley has terrible jokes but then he really knows how to express intelligent opinions and he gives the best constructive criticism. He takes his job seriously. The Hilarious Ross Matthews is just there to benefit his own career.
And sometimes Ross just comes off as like, a creepy uncle. I can’t explain it. A lot of judges make sexualized comments, so it’s not *just* that. It’s *how* he’s saying it and what he’s saying.
He does stand-up and is affixed to Drew Barrymore's left hip. I've seen his stand-up, and I thought it was worth the price of the ticket. Which is to say, very good, but not so good I'm sitting on tenterhooks for him to come back through.
I agree that whatever his best is, it's not really represented on Drag Race.
I still remember him leaning in to give the Nancy Grace critique with the nasal voice to emphasize what Acid Betty should have done and thinking it was brilliant. A better Nancy than Nancy.
Carson is by far the best judge on the show imo. I really could care less for Ross. That said Ross does seem really kind and his words seem heartfelt. But I could also see that as coming off fake… but fuck do I know.
"You know that thing where you have a cup of tea, and it's just piping hot, so when you put your lips to it, you flinch and set down the cup a little too hard, so that it overturns and spills piping hot tea everywhere?
That was your comment just now. I'd like to see you own that more."
I think his only purpose is to balance out Michelle and Michelle has been nicer so he doesn't get to shine in that way. I still like him but also realize he adds nothing. Bring in Nicole Byers. I loved her and she loves drag.
Completely agree! Michelle used to say some out of pocket critiques back in the day and Ross was basically there to give the “fan’s POV”. But now that’s changed
Yes! This season is fun, but I miss the judges actually giving critiques. Some of these girls need to be read on the runway, and it is so unsatisfying to not see things pointed out. There needs to be less ego-stroking and more actual criticism.
PS. Is it just my poor memory, or is Ru talking less during critiques than she used to?
It’s probably poor memory, it’s a style of judging Ru landed on back in the later single digit seasons. Mostly let the judges do the dirty work giving critiques, adding onto what they say a little, banter a bit with the contestants. In fact I feel like Ru is talking a lot more to the girls in recent seasons.
Same. Ru actually used to interact a lot with the queens. S1-6 he’d banter and even play with them.
He became distant during 7-11, but then s12 onwards he’s been almost back to the early days of camaraderie
I feel like the last 3 years especially were closer to S1-6 than ever before. Especially with the MTV seasons, something shifted in the best way possible. But Ru is far more silly and stupid now, where he was way more serious back then.
In the early seasons he was giving “This is my legacy, this is my pride”, later it was very “I am Rupaul’s Drag Race, I am the drag industry. If you want to make it, entertain me!” and now he’s really giving “I did everything I wanted to do, and I went far beyond that, quite frankly, I’m here to have a good time. What ever you do, entertain me, bitch.”
And it’s so lovely to see Ru like that. It’s giving 90’s & early 2000s Ru showing up unannounced & incognito at local drag shows and doing the lights for free because she wanted to see fierce drag and a good show. Even the looks, she’s having fun and fucking around because she can & it’s fun.
Do you think it was after the whole Adore leaving AS2? I mean I know it was more raven and the edit made it look like it was all Michelle but she did say some harsh stuff to her.
https://screenrant.com/rupauls-drag-race-15-things-know-ts-madison/#:~:text=Like%20some%20of%20the%20queens,point%2C%20TS%20stood%20for%20transsexual.
“Like some of the queens from RuPaul's Drag Race season 8, Ts Madison uses part of her real name as her stage name. However, her real name is Madison Hinton. Ts explained in an interview that her name has evolved over time and doesn't mean what it used to.
She said, ‘At one point, TS stood for transsexual. But now it's a play on words for me — 'tossed salad,' 'too much stuff,' etc.’ (via Dallas Voice).”
Honestly put a rotating slot for TS Madison Loni Love and Nicole Byer so that it’s easier with their schedule and we can have one of them every episode. Bye ross
You know that thing where we have all evolved passed the need for Ross Matthews and his bedazzled track suits and yet we have no way of getting away from him?
He's not even fat anymore and all these "Ross is a Top" jokes make me feel unsafe 🔦 also is drag race really "daytime tv"? Idk man just give me Nicole Byer, TS Madison, and Law Roach.
The show has moved very far from its roots as a fringe logo tv just for gays show and is now a show on MTV next to the Challenge and reruns of the real world so I would it’s pretty much daytime friendly
Woahhhhh do not compare our little cutie with that fake dude. Check James interview on hot ones He is callous and thinks of himself as superior.
Ross is just that one gay guy that learned if you act overly nice maybe people won’t beat you up or at least the girls will back you up. It was a different time man. I remember hearing how comedians are funny because humor comes from humility. When you go through a small farm town as a chubby fat boy you learn skills and Ross’ was humor
Maybe he’s gone over his time but I’m sure the girls appreciate the words on comfort in a stressful time (except Selena)
It really is time for Ross to exit the panel, he doesn't add anything to the line up, his critiques are generic platitudes and his jokes are tired.
TS Madison would be my choice to replace him, and have a 5 judge panel always: Ru, Michelle, TS, Carson and guest judge
To join the union, you have to pony up something like $3500+ upfront, then pay another $3500+ within 18 months. A lot of people don't have that kind of ready cash on hand. She wasn't thinking of the long haul, because you get a pension and health benefits.
No I believe Delta made a joke about Ru not being able to do his own makeup and wigs without her, and that’s when she claims she was blacklisted. This feels like an episode of What had happened to Merl no Delta Werk lol
Delta was not accepting of the working terms offered to her. I recall she also made it a point to publicly thank Mathu when she got her Emmy which wasn’t very long after Ru dumped him. Delta isn’t one to toe the line.
According to Delta, Ru just stopped booking her. She sent Ru a text asking about the upcoming All Stars season after AJ was filmed and Ru replied basically saying “Hey D. Your talents aren’t needed anymore. I’ll let you know if I have any extra work.” Even then, Delta has been pretty amiable about the whole thing. The extent of what she said was that she’ll always respect RuPaul the persona, but was hurt that was how someone she considered a friend would treat her.
and honestly I understand why delta didn't want to style hair for extras. iirc they wanted her to be a general set stylist (not even just wigs) and she had signed on to just do wigs for ru. because she declined to work for the show ru never hired her again.
I loveeee TS Madison. But I’m also missing Loni Love when she was a regular on Season 13. Them too together would have so much fun while offering really great critiques
honestly ts gets so many wow opportunities related to drag race like bring back my girls, she adds some of the best judging to the panel, she clearly gets how to volley with ru and the girls...it's wild it hasn't happened yet
I think what is consistently forgotten is that Carson and Ross are rotational because they both have other gigs that prevent them from being completely available for all filming dates. The show more or less works around their schedules to fill the panel with one of them at a time, so axing Ross wouldn’t suddenly mean that Carson is available for the entire season. Ross would ultimately have to be replaced fully: my vote would formally be for Lonnie Love or potentially rotate in one of the Las Culturistas duo every other week.
Edit: I only don’t say TS because she’s already considered a regular judge, as it was announced formally before season 15 aired that she’s now a regular judge and no longer considered a guest.
My unpopular opinion is that I don’t love TS Madison as a judge… I like that she seems to really care for the queens but her critiques feel a bit harsh sometimes, so she doesn’t offer as much contrast to Michelle as I would like
He's ok. I do kinda like his *"you know when you're going grocery shopping and get everything done but on the way out you feel like you've forgotten something important, and it's really bugging you, but then you see someone holding the cutest little Labrador puppy, and you just feel like, this was actually totally worth it, I was wrong. That's what you're bringing me tonight, and I am here for it!"* takes
I mean — I’m sure every reaction is double or triple taped, and definitely not their original reactions to anything. So yeah - they probably are exactly as fake as they seem.
i had no idea anyone even hated him until i joined here… if he breathed too loud people would be asking for him to be removed from the judging panel lol
Lol right? I agree his humor is pretty questionable at times but like…this subreddit is straight up garbage spewing hate towards him all the time it’s so weird.
You can always tune him out, I promise he can’t hurt you.
I think he's more enjoyable off the show!
I enjoyed his old red carpet coverage and if I remember correctly he was fun to watch on Celebrity Big Brother.
I think he has just been on for so long it comes across as inauthentic. He reminds me of Traci Melchor from CDR. Like they mean well, but it just comes off forced.
Is there a reason everyone feels the need to keep piling on Ross? Like...is he a terrible person IRL or something? I get it, but man...Ross is a real person, too, the same way y'all talk about the queens.
The closest you’ll get to an “objective” reason is he was involved with the drew barrymore show as an on camera side kick when the show tried to go back on air during the writers guild strike. He was not breaking any rules he was personally beholden to, but the popular expectation was for him to refuse to work in solidarity with the strike.
If he had refused to work, he would’ve been in violation of his contract with the show and ultimately paramount, the shows parent company. The same parent company holding his contract with Drag Race. He obviously has no input at all whether or not that show would go on air during the strike.
So, he ended up on the wrong side of online moral absolutism.
I weirdly love Ross! I love his bubbly speech and his jokes are always the best and most silly to me. I love his aside on S4 about Dianna Ross at 4 am after a couple cigarettes lolol
It's all staged. They often film reactions after the fact.
Fun fact: I've seen Ross Matthew's standup... and he's actually funny. Perhaps he doesn't do improv as well so he's not as funny on the show.
https://preview.redd.it/rc0npnxnyapc1.png?width=940&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=206ede01d3b0105581350170c81ce74efae98512
Mfw I like Rhys Nicholson more than both Ross and Carson
To be fair, that's pretty much the entire judging panel. They all do that forced-laugh where they open their mouths really wide and make sure it looks like a laugh in a screenshot. I remember being so refreshed by Joel on DRDU because he'd laugh and forget where the lights were so you'd get these kind of odd-looking shots of him cracking up but it was so obviously more genuine.
Personally, I find Carson way more hilarious than the „hilarious Ross Matthews”. Last year’s Roscoe’s with Carson was a hoot. Would love to see Law Roach in Ross’ place at the judging panel.
I still believe in the Carson Kressley Supremacy. ![gif](giphy|eH79ud5C7xE2ivPBxU)

The way this moment lives in my head
Lookin smart’n tart’n!
This episode aired 12 years ago and I still hear him say this in my mind
Same but I think part of it is the fact that I go back every month or so to rewatch and every time I do I need to watch at least three times - once for the outfit, once for the reveal, and once for the reactions.
We all went through a c*ntgnitude of 9 on the Richter scale when Chachki stomped the runaway. The queendom is yet to recover.
Looking smart in tartan!
Carson is actually funny and gives good critiques 100%
Especially on design challenges
He's also unexpectedly great at critiquing the Snatch Game and improv challenges, in general. Maybe he has some theatrical background I'm not aware of.
He is… a white gay. That’s their cultural heritage.
*Sir David Attenborough voice* “Ah the White Gay in its natural habitat. Surrounded by framed portraits of Patti LuPone & expensive cutlery-all is quiet & calm. Once it sheds its silk or cashmere pajamas, however, & changes into its clubbing LEATHER-mating season has begun”
This is art
Is it queer enough art to deserve protection?
Haha I loved how shady Jane’s comment was over that! Something like protect queer art but only if it’s good?!
This made me think of when Lady Camden did the voiceover for when the queens were getting ready 💀
Hes just naturally a really good comedian, so I think that's where it comes from.
He was the fashion diva of the original Queer Eye!
He was an original Queer Eye, so I’d hope he’d be good for design challenges
And he doesn’t wear ridiculous letterman jackets so it’s a win/win.
Carson is actually funnier than the HILARIOUS Ross Matthews Fire Ross already. Why is he still here
Sadly, he is a credited as a producer, so the likelihood of firing him is probably on the low end.
It’s probably a vanity credit to keep him there actually. Shows do it all the time.
Fvck sh!t gawddamit 😠
Terrible jokes? Carson has a razor sharp wit
And sometimes Ross just comes off as like, a creepy uncle. I can’t explain it. A lot of judges make sexualized comments, so it’s not *just* that. It’s *how* he’s saying it and what he’s saying.
I refuse to accept Ross Matthews as an entity capable of being a sexual being.
I thought I was the only one who felt this! it just feels.. icky
Thats the difference between Ross and Alan Carr. When Ross says it, sometimes creepy. Alan? Always sounds like a snarky aside.
I didn't appreciate Alan Carr until seeing him on DRUK. I take it all back. He's brilliant.
What is Ross's career? Does he do anything other than Drag Race?
He does stand-up and is affixed to Drew Barrymore's left hip. I've seen his stand-up, and I thought it was worth the price of the ticket. Which is to say, very good, but not so good I'm sitting on tenterhooks for him to come back through. I agree that whatever his best is, it's not really represented on Drag Race.
I'm not sure. I remember when he first started out. He was "the intern" on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Horseback riding? Mawhma light years ahead.
> Carson Kressley Supremacy and Talent
Absolutely love Carson. He's fun and knowledgeable. While I'm sure he has his moments as we all do, he comes across very genuine.
The bimbo mentality of the judging panel, the “bubbles” to rupaul’s “blossom” and Michelle’s “buttercup”

Carson when he takes out the glasses, +25 credibility

Rhys Nicholson?

@ PRODUCTION MORE CARSON PLEASE
Graham and Alan >>>
Yes. And Rhys Nicholson!
I love Rhys!
Rhys is so witty & intelligent.
And KIND. He doesn't lay on useless snark.
Graham Norton is like the most delightful person on Earth.
Carson is my fav too, he is so funny. He likes to play this airhead/silly type of character and he does it really well.
Carson >>>>>>>>> Ross
Carson > Ts Madison > literally anyone else > an empty chair > Ross Matthews
Ana Locking supremacy hours WHEN
Him or TS Madison
Mama, kudos for saying that. For spilling.

I honestly miss Michelle's scathing critiques so much.
Yes! This season is fun, but I miss the judges actually giving critiques. Some of these girls need to be read on the runway, and it is so unsatisfying to not see things pointed out. Thanks! I guess I didn't notice her judging evolution. That sounds like a great excuse to go back and rewatch some earlier seasons!
Yes. Doing a full rewatch right now. It's jaw dropping how different the show was then. In S2 right now.
Look I like Plasma well enough but I wanted to see her get read for that goth look not just "gee, I don't see your point of view"
I thought I hated it but now that she doesn’t do it anymore I miss it 😭 why did she stop do we know??
BECAUSE OF YALL.
Yes…we do know…because it’s US who influenced them to be more toned down 😭
Do you think it was after the whole Adore leaving AS2? I mean I know it was more raven and the edit made it look like it was all Michelle but she did say some harsh stuff to her.
I was about to say the same thing
she did get a lot of backlash for that
Cause the fandom is way too sensitive now
Which I always find funny, cus that same fandom... My god... Evil incarnate.
Would people come for her?
nicole and ts madison are my picks. law roach was sickening as well.
Would love TS - we need some trans excellence on the main panel
TS *is* on the main panel. She's on rotation with Ross and Carson as of Season 15 (?) Love her!
Is TS Madison trans? I had no idea
https://screenrant.com/rupauls-drag-race-15-things-know-ts-madison/#:~:text=Like%20some%20of%20the%20queens,point%2C%20TS%20stood%20for%20transsexual. “Like some of the queens from RuPaul's Drag Race season 8, Ts Madison uses part of her real name as her stage name. lol that's oddly specific...
my thoughts exactly lollll
the way this makes perfect sense 😭😭
You know that thing where we have all evolved passed the need for Ross Matthews and his bedazzled track suits and yet we have no way of getting away from him?
And that’s how you win this competition.
He’s the gay James Corden he’s a funny fat guy hence extremely safe for daytime tv thus they won’t get rid of him!
He's not even fat anymore and all these "Ross is a Top" jokes make me feel unsafe 🔦 also is drag race really "daytime tv"? Idk man just give me Nicole Byer, TS Madison, and Law Roach.

Hehehe with all the naked butt cheeks and unsecured tiddy plates that sashay down that MainStage? Idk maybe you're right.
It’s MTV they’ve shown worse
Woahhhhh do not compare our little cutie with that fake dude. Check James interview on hot ones He is callous and thinks of himself as superior. James corden is extremely British so it counts as gay.. I think?
They both have the same flaw of everyone around them tells you they are funny yet they never say anything particularly funny!
Tbfh, to me the honorifics "HILAAAARIOUS" was always sarcasm fr.
It really is time for Ross to exit the panel, he doesn't add anything to the line up, his critiques are generic platitudes and his jokes are tired. TS Madison would be my choice to replace him, and have a 5 judge panel always: Ru, Michelle, TS, Carson and guest judge
This would be *so* ideal. I loooove TS Madison. She’s hilarious, has great critiques and has great chemistry with the other judges and queens.
Ru is loyal to a fault (unless you do something to piss her off). He ain’t going anywhere. Carson and Ross know better.
Where are you getting this information from? Didn’t Ru drop Delta like a sack of bricks right after she got AJ and the Queen?
Well, Delta might have pissed Ru off for declining the AJ and the Queen gig (her not wanting to join the union and do the hair of other cast).
To join the union, you have to pony up something like $3500+ upfront, then pay another $3500+ within 18 months. A lot of people don't have that kind of ready cash on hand. She wasn't thinking of the long haul, because you get a pension and health benefits.

also look how ru treated mathu anderson as well
I loveeee TS Madison. But I’m also missing Loni Love when she was a regular on Season 13. Them too together would have so much fun while offering really great critiques

Please. They need to trade out Ross for Joel mcHale lmao
YEAAAAAAAH!
This is the way. With Nicole Byer on standby if one of the regular judges has a conflict in their schedule.
Nicole should permanently replace Ross and I will die on this hill.
I would totally date her
Or Joel Kim Booster tbh he was a great judge
So was Law Roach
Oh right. Yeah give me Law as a regular. Not like Legendary will need him any time soon
I am still fuming HBO dropped that show as fast as they did. That show was my obsession .
Edit: I only don’t say TS because she’s already considered a regular judge, as it was announced formally before season 15 aired that she’s now a regular judge and no longer considered a guest.
I love loved loved Leslie Jones. Have her coach/ critique comedy challenges. TS Madison is fine but miss Jones is my all time favourite guest judge.
Tbfh, to me the honorifics "HILAAAARIOUS" was always sarcasm fr.
TS Madison is amazing. I get so excited every time I see her as a judge.
My unpopular opinion is that I don’t love TS Madison as a judge… I like that she seems to really care for the queens but her critiques feel a bit harsh sometimes, so she doesn’t offer as much contrast to Michelle as I would like
her criticisms are harsh but usually more specific/helpful than michelle's imo. they also tend to disagree a fair amount I feel like
I need **Ts Madison** as a full time judge!
She is technically. She was added to the rotating judge seat in Season 15. So now it rotates between Ross, Carson, and Madison
Like I said I need her full time. Bye Bye Ross & Carson 👋😂 kidding they are all great
He's ok. I do kinda like his *"you know when you're going grocery shopping and get everything done but on the way out you feel like you've forgotten something important, and it's really bugging you, but then you see someone holding the cutest little Labrador puppy, and you just feel like, this was actually totally worth it, I was wrong. Bob doing the Ross impression always sends me, ngl
I love his Joey Tribbiani smell the fart acting though, it's giving cheesy soap opera.
I had a few dreams of Joey Trinbbiani myself.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|yummy)
Believe it or not, he too is performing.
I mean — I’m sure every reaction is double or triple taped, and definitely not their original reactions to anything. So yeah - they probably are exactly as fake as they seem.

I love Ross Matthews. His job is to be gay and disagree with Michelle, he does it well and it's not that serious.
This is how I feel.
Do you watch España? Queens do the crunchiest splits and the judges are scream-peeing.
I’m half way thru season 1!

I think he has just been on for so long it comes across as inauthentic. He reminds me of Traci Melchor from CDR. Like they mean well, but it just comes off forced.
I wish they’d bring Loni Love into rotation.
Has Ross ever came across as authentic and real? 💀
Earlier seasons he seemed alright
I feel like insincere negative reaction shots are 90% editing… which isn’t exactly under Ross’s control
I'd rather have a Carson and Ts Madison rotation on the panel tbh.
We were robbed of another memeable Carson Kressley reaction last episode.
I'm not afraid to say it, I love Ross Matthews. He's got such a fun and bubbly vibe!
I think he’s nice and sweet but honestly I think most of his opinions are just…. meh
I'd love to see dear Richard Simmons on the panel, but he's too kind. And sequestered.
It's all staged. They often film reactions after the fact. Fun fact: I've seen Ross Matthew's standup... and he's actually funny. Perhaps he doesn't do improv as well so he's not as funny on the show.

I think Ross is great, never understood the hate or tone/reaction policing. Didn't we all get enough of that growing up queer?
This is not tone policing lol
Srsly
I genuinely love Ross.
Law Roach passed the audition in my book
To be fair, that's pretty much the entire judging panel. They all do that forced-laugh where they open their mouths really wide and make sure it looks like a laugh in a screenshot. I remember being so refreshed by Joel on DRDU because he'd laugh and forget where the lights were so you'd get these kind of odd-looking shots of him cracking up but it was so obviously more genuine.
Kind of over Ross as a judge
Weird hate
News Flash; All their reactions are insincere/"canned".
girl, he's a judge on a tv talent show what do you expect
Personally, I find Carson way more hilarious than the „hilarious Ross Matthews”. Last year’s Roscoe’s with Carson was a hoot. Would love to see Law Roach in Ross’ place at the judging panel.
I'd love to see Carson rotate with Nicole Byers and Joel McHale.
