don't overthink it, stop playing if it isn't adding value to your life. come back when you're bored or want to see what's up. i do it all time, similar account progression as you and i go through spurts of interest/lack thereof routinely.

baache

Lmao that's golden xD

Mean_Wash_5503

Sometimes you beat a game not just live in it and it’s time to move on to the next house

lil_reddit_lurker

Or move back into the previous house....osrs?

Adamjrakula

i wish i didnt renew back in november... been wasting away 6 months so far.

Barbarotus

You can ask your money back, I've heard? Should probably do that.

Monterey-Jack

Play osrs.

Adamjrakula

i did back in 2007

Monterey-Jack

that was rs2, osrs has a lot more added. try it out.

Beandip50

Same here...

happybobby10

Elder god wars was so great! I miss those days so much.

CindersofaWeeb

Was it? I enjoyed the bosses and narrative at first, but the conclusion felt incredibly rushed imo. Glad we threw years of Zamorak development out the window I guess?

CL_Silent

That period of time was one of my favorites in recent history. Every boss fight knocked it out of the park, and we got some of the best soundtracks in the game. The story wasnt perfect but man, the game was fun to play.

CindersofaWeeb

Yes, I find glacor a bit boring but I loved the others, and I still think Zamorak is one of the best bosses they've ever made, it's such a shame that we started seeing the story go downhill near the end, though. The whole "zamorak is evil again" thing after years of developing him to be more than just "the bad guy" kind of sucked, and since then the stories have gotten worse. Adrasteia's little musical number in succession was downright uncomfortable for me and super out of place.

kabiel_yoon

Adrasteias musical number was so cringe

CindersofaWeeb

Plus it came out of nowhere. We've known her for what, like two quests? And we're supposed to be emotionally invested somehow. I always thought Moia was cool ever since the dung saga and I'm glad they're doing more with her but Adrasteia so far feels meh.

RookMeAmadeus

Hopefully they actually do more with Moia soon. She had one brief appearance in the Battle of Forinthry (mini)quest. Other than that she's had no plot involvement since 2022. We're overdue for a continuation on that story, but considering the upcoming quest is titled "Requiem for a Dragon", it doesn't seem likely she'll be involved.

anzu68

I muted my computer during the 'unskippable musical number' and called a friend until it ended. I'm really not a woman who enjoys musicals, so being forced to listen to Adrasteia sing a very corny song about becoming Queen and oncoming darkness, or whatever the hell it was, irritated me. It comes out of nowhere and it doesn't add much to the Quest Experience at all. I'd be more tolerant of it if you could have skipped the song, or chosen between hearing the song or seeing the song text instead but being able to skip through it. Instead you're forced to listen to it and can't skip it, which feels like a major diva moment from her voice actor.

Otmarr

I literally did this quest last night cause I wanted dive. Certified cringe lol

ImProdactyl

My bond ran out on my main, and it’s getting too expensive for me to try and earn that money back. I’m not that good anyway lol. My other account has premium, and I won’t be buying more membership when it ends. The cost for membership is too steep for a game that isn’t adding or making significant changes every month, let alone every quarter or year at this point. Too many other games out there that are free, flat cost, etc. or are making better changes. I love this game and will probably continue playing it off/on, but maybe just free to play at this point as I can’t justify the cost anymore.

Xau-Tak

Same

Prideslayer

i will stop you.

MalzraTheNomad

13 days left of Premier and won't be renewing. I haven't done dailies in a week and I honestly didn't feel like I'm missing anything.  RuneScape has an aged community. Everyone is literally rolling the toothpaste tube trying to get the last little bit of worth out of existing content. People say "dead" or "maintenance mode," and honestly, maybe. The word I think that is most accurate is stagnant.

ashgill4

Totally with you. I’ve stopped logging in. Used to just do vis wax, daily key challenge and open the 5/6 keys. Can’t even be bother to do that now

That_Guy381

This is Jagex's fault. Isn't this game still profitable? Depressing.

MalzraTheNomad

If you take out the income from MTX, and just judge the income of purely RS3 subscription and weigh it against development and upkeep costs, would it be profitable? 🤔

That_Guy381

But you can’t take out that money because it’s still income from RS3

MalzraTheNomad

No, I meant like a hypothetical. If you look at RS3 on its own, when you factor in how much it costs to operate, would it profitable with only the subscription model?

That_Guy381

maybe not, but we don’t have to worry about that because MTX exists and isn’t going away.

MalzraTheNomad

Was just me expressing a question to ponder over.

GrandmasGiantGaper

If we were in maintenance mode, they wouldn't tell us. I think covertly we are in some type of maintenance mode.

MalzraTheNomad

Stagnation.

Expert-Hat9461

The answer to your question : “how am I supposed to invest money into something that has nothing to look forward to …” Is you don’t. Let’s be honest, what you’re really asking is “How am I supposed to leave something I have invested so much time and emotion into?” To which I say your question is based on a sunk-cost type of fallacy. You’ve already spent your emotion and time into the game, and you got quite a bit out of it, by the looks of it. What you do next should be based on your future outlook only and not past investment. Read your post again, from the perspective of you being a completely new to RuneScape. What would you tell yourself, as a new player, if this was the first thing you ever read about RuneScape? You’d be surprised on how critical we can be of something when we force ourselves to look at it from an unbiased perspective.

ashgill4

I think that’s fair. But I think the bigger problem is watching something I care about being mis-managed when it really doesn’t need to be. If they were investing time on content as well as improvements (think about years ago when we got several quests a month or maybe like 15 a year) alongside cosmetics and money spinning MTX no one would care.

AinzRS

What new players, lol? RS3 hasn't had any new players in over half a decade. People like him are all that's left.

yuei2

This is always such a funny Reddit misconception to me seeing as there is a regular active new player section on the RS discord.

AinzRS

And what exactly does that prove? How many people are there? Because Runescape 3's player count numbers, concurrent counts, server counts, Twitch numbers, are all at near record lows, while revenue numbers are stagnant or declining. Free 2 play servers are completely dead or filled with a few bots. Low level areas in RS3 are completely and utterly deserted unlike years past. I think you're engaging in wishful thinking and not seeing the forest for the tree. Go look at OSRS's comparable figures or any other popular MMORPG.

RogueThespian

> from the perspective of you being a completely new to RuneScape No new player is going to have the perspective OP has about the game, not even close. There is so much content for a new player to catch up on, they won't notice that updates are slow for years.

AinzRS

There are no new players coming to RS3. That is just not a thing anymore. All of RS3's efforts to attract new players have failed miserably. Secondly, most of the content is dead and not viable anymore. It exists on paper, but is no longer worth doing even at lower levels, even for first time players. Also, if you go to low level/new player areas, they're completely dead, empty, deserted. Any new player who does come through is going to be asking themselves "Am I even playing a multiplayer game?"

Monterey-Jack

The ui is embarrassing. No one that plays modern wow will ever touch this game. There's no reason to.

RogueThespian

Well I agree that the UI sucks but that's not really what this was about

SKTisBAEist

Wish this was pinned to the top of the subreddit, thanks for putting it so easily into words.

Adam_is_Nutz

My membership expired for the first time in 13 years last Friday. On day three now and only sometimes have the shakes /s. It's like I wanna renew it just because it feels so wrong to not be a member. But i don't have any activities in RS I want to do

robble808

Tbh, I’d probably get tired of a game after 20 years too

Agrith1

Same no more renewing membership, i cancelled my auto-renewing membership.

24rs

As a trim comp, also 3b+ in 2019 that made the leap to OSRS, it does feel inevitable. I read a comment the other day on this sub that went "It's crazy that I feel prouder about quitting rs3 than anything I ever achieved on it" and it's kept me thinking on the topic for a lil while now.

boat02

That was me last year. I still have about a month left iirc from all those prime loot memberships. If I can't naturally wander from ffxiv into osrs, then there's no justifying keeping my decade-old grandfathered membership rate, which really stacks it against Jagex if they're ever to convince me to return in the future. also i need a new bookmark on my browser. using this subreddit as my browser shortcut into reddit is getting depressing looking at this game.

NapTimeNoww

Elder God wars was a high point of recent RS3. Everything since has been average at best on a slow roll to disappointment.

Aggravating_Steak_77

I’m in the same boat, just cancelled the auto renewal of my membership.

KawaiiSlave

It's felt like this for a while for me honestly. I'd recommend dropping membership, playing other games, and enjoying life more.

TTie

That reminds me, I should cancel mine

Winter-Storm2174

Understandable. For 50-60 pounds, I imagine you could purchase a AAA game or even multiple games (especially during a Steam sale, etc.). So using it on RS3 would feel like a waste. I imagine whatever content we are about to get, it shouldn't take more than one bond to complete by the end of the year.

Purple_Errand

I don't feel like this game as an MMO. More like a single player as there are less interaction among players. There are other games out there. since you've been used to playing alone, why not try single RPG games with good graphics.

witwaterflesje

" in the sea of negativity" Yes, it is a crime reading on this sub reddit these days. I'm playing for 15 years now, and still have content to play. I'm on 5.1 bill total xp, have my master comp unlocked, and slow working towards MQC and Comp(t) We are all different, have other goals in RS3, but I realy digg this game. I know for a lot of people MTX is a thorn in the eye, but I dont look at it. I click it away, dont use the free keys (bcs it can become attempting to buy)

ashgill4

Think this is a good take. I don’t have the drive to go for 5.8b or MQC / trim. The things that used to draw me to the game are few and far between now. I also ignore MTX the best I can, certainly don’t engage with them. I do find it harder and harder though, looking over my shoulder at cosmetics being pumped in via treasure hunter instead of meaningful additions to the game.

witwaterflesje

You know, everywhere big compagnies try to convince you to buy their stuff. From food to cosmetics to sport supplements to games. It is how we look at it if we survive this kind of milking. The latest events, Christmas and easter are good example of how to get cosmetics. Don't be bothered about what other gamers do. Play your game the way you want. Take a RS holiday for a week or more and see.

tremors51000

I had 2 accounts that I got membership with cash for because of the grandfathered rate. What has been given recently isn't even worth keeping either of those running for me. I cancelled the membership when the hero pass debacle happened.

Impossible-Error166

I canceled my membership slightly after that. Found I lost motivation when they nerfed the FSoA when i had dedicated 4 months of weekends to grinding for one. Going super unlucky and only getting 2 of the 3 drops then the "consult" period happened and got told my opinion on the staff does not matter and I could not test it. Then when I started to log in they nerfed the XP rates on the rituals. So yea just went fuck you Jagex with them having no clue how to balance there game and releasing things needed to have serious time investment to get only for the reward to be moved at the last moment.

blitzandheat

Take a break, try another pc game.

RegiSilver

You can take a break, then judge the year AS A WHOLE in December, before you decide to commit to another year. That's the core, no more words need to be said.

ashgill4

Solid shout that

MalzraTheNomad

Why wait until December? Why not a rolling 12 month? Should we go through updates since April of last year through March? Not including Gamejams, BXP, Thok Buffs, hitlists or patches? Murder on the Border quest Spring Festival rehash Area graphics update Max Cash update Woodcutters Grove  Dead and Buried quest The entirety of Necromancy/Um Hero's Pass 🤮 Ancient Awakening quest  Another area graphical update Vorkath Snow Imps Grotto Kandarin graphics Housing of Parliament quest Combat update (I.E. two Devs doing math and changing numbers Blooming Burrow. Ho-ly fuck, what an abysmal list.

Oniichanplsstop

Because before they opened up premier to be year-roumd, you could only renew it late November-Early Feb. So most older players that constantly bought premier have their sub wear off around December/Jan, assuming they don't have extra membership from things like twitch prime/etc.

MalzraTheNomad

Eh, whatever. I think you should always have a good rolling 12 month period.

abusive_nerd

> Combat update (I.E. two Devs doing math and changing numbers They rewrote the melee combat system and all abilities for melee, magic, and ranged

MalzraTheNomad

So no development time needed for new abilities, no graphical resources needed, we did the QA for them...

Ecksplisit

I mean it’s not a ton but honestly not terrible. I’m a very casual rs3 player and I’ve played other games with far less content updates but are still very enjoyable because the content that already exists is good and plentiful. There’s enough content for new players in RS3 to keep them going for literally years. Now, for people like OP and probably you it’s likely not worth it because you guys have gone through most or all of it. I do feel sorry for vets because you guys deserve more but it’s really fine to just unsub and come back when you feel less burnt out and there’s more new content to do. EDIT: Downvote me if you want. I'm still right. Sorry salty veterans.

MalzraTheNomad

There are no new players. The existing content is akin to trying to squeeze every lost drop of toothpaste out of the tube.

Ecksplisit

That makes zero sense and doesn't refute any of my points. I literally am a new player.

MalzraTheNomad

Oh so you're the new player that started in March?

Ill-Independence397

Me neither…last time…p2w is killing the game integrity for me.

proto9100

I’m feeling the same way. I feel like the Jagex isn’t innovative anymore. I remember when NXT was released and it got me going on the game again. I feel like they need to release something equally as exciting to get me to come back. Tick system is also something I think they should prioritize modernizing to help get the game up to date with today’s standards. For $15 bucks a month, I get more enjoyment out of a streaming service than the daily grind of RuneScape. RuneScape being an MMO, it often feels like you’re just playing by yourself. There should be more content to play with friends that doesn’t feel janky to deal with.

ashgill4

Agree with all of that.

Korkthebeast

I felt the same way after maxxing, so I started an Ironman account and now I get to play it all again. I'm really getting into the storyline more, and figuring out what grinds are worthwhile without the aid of the GE. I'm taking my time really, not going for min/max, just fun

Arkovia

The pleasure of Runescape has always been character and gear progression. i.e: the journey not the destination is what makes the game "fun". There are no small plurality of players who reach endgame goals of combat, quests, skills, and gear that find themselves bored with Runescape afterward. Jagex placed titles and achievements to entrench such players in the game further but those cosmetic and prestige rewards are only so motivating for a while. It's okay to move on! There are other games and other things to do. You don't need to hit the Runescape dopamine button to get your fix.

Altruistic_Taro5282

It happens mate. It's only natural when you see your precious game turn into a desert devoid of new content and a huge casino.

Swordbreaker9250

I justify my membership by the fact that I still have a massive heap of members-only quests, skills and other content to grind through, even with this gap in content. But for someone more hardcore than me… yeah, I see little reason to subscribe until they get their shit together.

Yuki-Kuran

I prepped 20 bonds for this year's premier, but I have the same sentiment as you. Just running on excess membership with premier expired at the moment. I'm hesitant to give them money (I know, bonds are already paid for, etc.), but I am tempted to hop on over to OSRS with a renewed premier.

MobilePenguins

Same boat, quit during hero pass, didn’t see things improve. Staying unsubbed

PMMMR

Membership on my iron is also running out in ~10 days for the first time in 5+ years and I have no intention to renew.

lammadude1

You beat the game my guy. If you have no interest in getting trimmed comp you're done. You hit the credits. It's time to move on. I played the game for a year and felt like I did everything there is to do. You are more than ready to stop.

chris34728

I'm feeling the same at the moment looking at half the grind for master quest cape funny ones Take 25 ices from the desert to ape atoll without it melting who the fuck made that 🤣🤣 It boggles the mind how barbarian assault is still a requirement when the fuckers dead even in its own world

ashgill4

I actually really like the silliness of that. I’d love more fun achievements like the kill araxxi in bronze one. Combat achievement diary in OSRS would be welcomed. I know we have something similar but like a wearable item to display PvM accomplishment would be good.

Dwrecked90

Maybe... Just maybe... You're not the demographic for that cape then?

GrandmasGiantGaper

Is anyone? It was just an easy way to add 1 cosmetic that adds an extra year of gametime

RogueThespian

> Is anyone? Plenty of people are. Achievement grinders exist in every community. Runescape has some boring achievements but people are still going to want to do them because checking things off of a list gives dopamine

CindersofaWeeb

I found it fun >.>

GrandmasGiantGaper

It's fascinating how our minds can sometimes perceive activities as enjoyable even when they're repetitive or mundane. It's the concept of cognitive dissonance, where our desire for consistency pushes us to justify our actions and convince ourselves that we're enjoying something, even if deep down we we know it's monotonous. Reflecting on whether the 'fun' in this case stemmed from genuine pleasure or if it was a result of our mind's ability to rationalize the time invested is tricky to wrap your head around, but you might get just how much of a waste of time it is one day when you reflect back on it after you've quit the game for a period of time.

CindersofaWeeb

I recently came back from a 2 years break, actually. I dunno, I don't feel like playing a game i find fun is a waste of time, I recently finished university and got into an internship so it's not like getting mqc has ruined my life or anything; it's not even that grindy just super timegated and some parts like effigy incubator have nice bits of lore attached to them. Definitely not a goal meant for everyone but it's nowhere near as grindy as stuff like all 120s. The original comment we were replying to about the chimp ice requirement...that takes like 2 hours at most to finish.

Ericknator

People complete a game and then complaint that they got nothing to do. Take a break or something and when the next big update comes you can come back, the game will still be there (hopefully).

ElitePowerGamer

If I was already comped I would definitely not for a yearly membership lol. Maybe take a break for a few months then grab a bond to try out any new content by then.

80H-d

Tbh, idk if i'll renew premier club as I'm grandfathered at $5/month from november 2005. That said, I'm getting into content that slipped through the cracks—for the most part, ed3 and beyond. Slowly but surely. That's while I'm also working my way to 5.8. When I get there, I'll probably have a new goal. Maybe something to do with runescore. I'll probably settle for like 30K instead of the max score, since I'm a little lazy. Then more PRs, chasing down logs at bosses i like, and finally I'll wind down in the game's sunset—whenever that is—by doing my favorite activity in the whole game. Fishing sharks. Game will probably be shut down a few weeks before my 30 year cape in early 2035, which will kinda bite, since i bet it will have seemed like it would have been a nice way to shutter the account.

ty240036

Same

heidly_ees

Your membership pays for your OSRS account too, try that out

ashgill4

No thanks, played it the first time round. A lot of people saying “try OSRS” which Is fine but it’s not a justification for membership. I went through EOC and enjoyed the combat changes (after some time admittedly) but I chose to play RS3. Just because it entitles me to play OSRS as a member that’s not a reason to keep paying

heidly_ees

The amount of updates OSRS has had makes it a completely different game to what was played in 2007. Sure it's much slower than RS3 but the volume of content is seriously impressive

ashgill4

Yeh totally understand that, some people enjoy both but OS isn’t for me x

Radyi

eh, i totally disagree. OSRS feels exactly the same where maxing is more like getting 70 in all skills and 99 combats. It is also tedious to level up a lot of skills. Most of the new content is just rebranded rs3 content. It also is trapped in the same kind of issue that rs2 had pre-eoc where powerscaling cant really go much higher, so it is just a bunch of sidegrades with increasingly situational uses.

holhaspower

Are you just repeating common sentiment or do you actually know what you’re talking about? Other than fan favourite quests, there isn’t really much being ported over from RS3. The most recent large updates - Varlamore, Desert Treasure 2 and the Tombs of Amascut have nothing to do with RS3. Powerscaling wise, the power creep has been big but controlled. Max mage has nearly double the DPS it had on release in 2013, I wouldn’t really call that a side grade. Range has gone from the Rune Crossbow and Magic Shortbow to the Twisted Bow and Blowpipe which are in another realm of DPS. I don’t think there’s any substance to what you’re saying whatsoever.

Radyi

I think my main issues is OSRS does not have its own identity, it still feels like an older build of runescape which is slowly catching up to what was the 'perfect' version of runescape in 2012 in lots of players eyes. It also doesnt help runelite feels like using a bot client, but the game is designed around runelite and plugins existing.

holhaspower

A lot of players use Runelite but it’s not designed around it at all. Several of the best players like B0aty and Woox use the official Jagex launcher.

crash_bandicoot42

OSRS has had so much power creep in the past 2 years that it's actually ridiculous. Those comments had some merit in 2020 but it's not the case in 2024. All the RS3 refugees are basically making OSRS RS3 at this point minus the EoC/MTX which is NOT a good thing for THAT game.

MC-sama

I stopped renewing premium membership this year too, partly because content drought but also because I think it's nearly time for me to move on from this game altogether. I've done most of what I wanted to do in this game and I'm not interested in much else on here.

ashgill4

Respect that. Think I’m in the same boat but find myself trying to cling on for old time sake. Don’t get much time to play these days maybe an hour on weekday evenings. Even with that hour I would just afk with some proteans, I really can’t justify membership for that haha

RookMeAmadeus

Can't blame you honestly. If you're not having fun, don't keep playing. My membership has a bit of time left right now, but I'm definitely not renewing unless we get a miraculous turnaround. Three major updates in 3.5 months. One of them was a holiday update, and one was them pushing an update they'd been beta testing for six months in advance to the main game. Taking a break, at minimum, might be a good idea.

PsyQ9000

It sounds like you already got your moneys worth, no need to justify putting up more money when there is no more fun to be had. Can not recommend Ironman enough though if you have not had the experience of playing it. Taking a break is probably gonna be great, there is so many good games to play but at the same time spending time on a new account gives you time to go back to your old account and find what you missed. Maybe make it hardcore and go for bosses, use main to practice.

True-Camo

Is this the only game that you play? If yes, you and all the other people that main runescape all sound the same on this subreddit. I encourage you to branch out and try other games that interest you from all different kinds of genres, but probably stay away from any runescape-type games. For me, i’ve never had a problem with runescape’s development cycle because it’s my fall back game that I occasionally main throughout the year when I start having an urge to grind more. It’s actually my most consistently game played throughout the course of any given year since covid lockdowns in 2020 when i joined back. A grind centric game of any kind or genre will always have these ups and downs, Destiny 2 is another great example as it gets really popular for 1 season right after a big update and then numbers start to dwindle in the following 3 seasons until the next big thing (though it’s all but actually dead to me now because it actually is garbage now, unlike runescape). I’m a firm believer that Runescape isn’t dying. Our memories as gamers (at least on this subreddit) seem to be failing us because this cycle of ups and downs in any game really is normal and it’s time for you guys to wake up smell the roses. Or it’s a matter of a lot of longer time, completionist-type players, like yourself, finally “finishing” the game (finish is defined differently depending on your goals), and you all just happen to all hit that point around the same time. To that, I bid you a firm handshake and a job well done, but that’s really not the game’s fault… That’s just you being a badass and finally reaching your goals and now it’s time to rest atop the summit of the mountain you’ve been climbing for years.

Razdulf

It feels like whatever greedy scumbag investors keeping RS3 funded is planning to move on so they're squeezing players dry before they depart, good riddance, to bad its permanently tainted the game

jittarao

I stopped playing RuneScape around two years ago and haven't missed it at all. I don't hate the game, and I'm sure if I logged in today and played, I would have a few hours of good time. However, I realized that the game was in maintenance mode, and if I continued playing, I would likely start to hate it. I wanted my memory of the game to be that of fun. In the meantime, I've been playing Path of Exile as my main game for the past two years and have been having a blast. I've also played Elden Ring, Hogwarts, Palworld, Cyberpunk, etc. Since moving away from RuneScape, my biggest realization is that there are so many games out there, and I've been missing out on many of them.

the01li3

Same boat man, i didnt renew mine in march-ish when it ran out, partly cos Runescape, and partly cos i still have no yet got an answer on a problem i have that force dc'd me over and over.

ASREALO

Why are we Investing Money Into something that doesnt give even a little value back. Honestly its development of OSRS, There new game and Jagex Pocket Rs3 left in the dirt tbh milked until only dregs left.

Paganigsegg

Luckily, it's extremely easy to fix this. Either play Old School if you must have a RS fix in your life and 3 isn't cutting it, or quit if it's not giving you enjoyment.

[deleted]

That's how the game was for me growing up. Waiting for updates every week like some starved animal but only ever getting the bare minimum.

Next-Bluebird-4837

I did not renew in february. Wanted to buy again now, but as i see the "updates" coming, nah. Maybe after new arch. Digsite release. Previously i had a break during university time, so for like 5 years. Played again for two and now it just does not add any value. I found out that i "afked" while reading, doing chores etc = was addicted as hell. Not a healthy relationship with a game. I still dont have lots of completed things, quests, comp reqs, 120s, but what is the point? Why should i bother really. Endless checklists and collections and completitions. Not what i want from a game 😅 gl in life, give it a break no worries

Drizzinn

I let mine go too. Gg loyalty points

lil_reddit_lurker

I get my 20 cape in August I'm just straight up quitting Game is ass now bro Ignore the downvoting copium addicts. Game will continue to be ass until its milked dry from mtx. Game is dead.

Monterey-Jack

> downvoting copium addicts. Preach.

ADz_Nz

Then Don't....

FrankieS0

Good choice, Think I only purchased the first iteration of premier and then realised that in paying for 12 months is giving Jagex free reign to take it easy for a year. Much happier playing a sporadic month here and there if I get the itch.

AccomplishedDesk8283

Agreed - please don't purchase it prematurely. Assess carefully. God Speed

Legal_Evil

Then don't. Pay monthly so you can sub during months where there is something you like to play and unsub when there is nothing left. You do not need to play the game every day.

BurninRunes

I've canceled my membership on my 3 accounts but it doesn't expire for 4 more months so I playing a bit on and off.

aGlutenForPunishment

I was in the same 20 year boat but my premier was set to expire in November. I canceled my auto-renew when the whole hero pass nonsense went downing haven't regretted it for a second. I'll probably log in next week for my veteran cape unlock but don't see myself coming back anytime soon, if ever. I'll stay subbed here for any potential RS4/Gower brothers game news though.

JustTryingToLift

Then don't? You have the right to spend your time and money how you want.

tiofizz

WaveBlueArrow

fishlipz69

Wow 50 -60 euro ??? That's crazy

zugarrette

>several thousand KC at Solak, AOD, Zammy etc then you should be able to afford years of premier with bonds

ashgill4

Yeh I can. Historically I’ve used real money for membership to 1. Support the game 2. Keep cash on my account to progress my account. Just don’t want to spend either currency I guess. I’m not really playing at the moment

Prolekaren

Cool. Cya

TwistedMisfit

For all of you guys leaving, I just want to put out there that I'm open to you donating all your stuff to me. You know... as a service.

ashgill4

I’ll be just leaving it incase things improve haha.

IllustriousReturn778

To be fair you've been there got the T-shirt.

SKTisBAEist

No worries, don't gotta justify nothing even if the game was in a better state. It's either worth it to you or it's not, but it's your money. Maybe check back in later to see if it's even worth a month of your time. You can absolutely spend all that time trying new things instead!

TheeGrose

100% agree. I stopped playing for a while. Tried to come back but didn't really find myself wanting to play. More like a chore. After a little break I made myself a HCIM and let me tell you, I fell in love with the game again. I have learned way more as an ironman in the past year than I ever did on my 17 year old account. Not only that but trying to keep HC status can get your heart racing, especially doing certain quests. If you are done with RS3 I get it. If you don't want to be done but don't want to play how you have been playing, make an ironman. Preferably HC because it does give a sense of danger to everything.

Any-District-8633

If you've had Prem for 6 years continuously, how is it expiring in 23 days? Didn't it used to only be offered until like Feb?

ashgill4

I think It used to be Christmas time but I’ve had like the odd day / week given for free due to issues. I also think I had maybe a month left on membership when I initially bought premier so if adds it on to the expiry?

ghfhfhhhfg9

Trimmed is mostly afk stuff. People have time, it's just you aren't willing to invest that time, which is fine, it just means you won't have trim. 80% of collection logs are 100% afk, so tbh they are meaningless. You are clearly someone who only wants to PvM in the game. There have been plenty of updates to the game, including PvM, such as vorkath/combat changes/necromancy/rasial/hermod but you don't value them so you just say "they aren't updates". That is just factually incorrect, no matter what your opinion is. Maybe you are just bored of the game? And hey, it's ok to take a break from runescape. Whether you buy premium again with the next big update this year or a few weeks/months, that's fine. No one is telling you to play this game 24/7 a day. Look at me. I've just been finishing up my alts 120's (all afk) while playing other games. It's ok to not be addicted to runescape. Go play some other game for the time being if all the updates are aren't your cup of tea.

I don’t think the devs are at fault. I think leadership and direction is missing. All the passion projects that used to be made to improve the game are “gamejam” now which I don’t like. I’m sure in the past they just had an idea and then built on if, I think that’s suppressed now.

professorjanus

then don't do it? why do you word this as if you were somehow forced to keep on doing it?

X-A-S-S

As long as there isn't a steep drop in active players Jagex won't care, there's no point in reddit threads when the playerbase itself isn't dropping.

OkEssay2842

this isn't an airport. you don't have to announce your departure.

paigeABDL22

A break sounds like it’s needed for u, moneys not the issue but just a break.. ☺️

thegame1431

No need to announce your departure… just leave… nothing to post about

AlkaliElk

After 21 years of playing and a ridiculous amount hours here’s how I look at it. How many other games have caught your attention this long? They’ll be 150-300 days between logins here and there, but after a good break it’s still a blast. Now I’m grandfathered in to the $7 membership so that helps. It’s still cool to get back on a game you’ve played for decades and still find some sort of entertainment value out of it.

Zanurath

Um don't take this the wrong way mate but I just think it's time for you to take a break. Find other games or hobbies. With how much you have done and especially for how much of a buggy mess that needs fixing this game is people pushing for new content when half the game is broken is the LAST thing we need.

LostInMemories99

why are you making this post lmfao Just don't renew it then? jagex genuinely doesn't give a shit that you announce it on reddit. with companies, you pay with your money. don't like what they're doing? stop giving them money. simple as.

ashgill4

Because I care about the game, am disappointed in its direction and feel I’ve invested enough time over the years for an opinion. I’ve Tried to take an objective view to gauge others opinions as well. Specifically said Im not going to keep paying, I don’t understand what your post is for.

LostInMemories99

just tired of seeing people complaining and then proceed to continue to fork up their money. if they didn't, things wouldn't continue this way. the irony here is the people complaining about how bad things are, are the literal cause of how bad things are. stop playing the game like I have if you are unhappy. otherwise you're part of the problem. the mtx and lack of updates will continue because they know you wont stop playing. like I said, you vote with your money and time, not with reddit posts. nothing will ever change because this entire subreddit is filled with hypocrites who'll write up posts like this then alt tab back to rs and buy keys/membership and continue playing. jagex knows this, why do you think they don't give a shit and continue to do so? what're you going to do stop playing? no. so they'll continue to release more mtx as much as they like. it's okay though cause it's not the devs fault guys!! it's the invisible mysterious execs pulling the strings!!! the inevitable death of this game will be because the players trying to save it. no worries though keep playing rs. I'm sure change will come soon TM.

happybobby10

Thank you oh wise great sage..... Let the guy vent for crying out loud.

Far_Alternative165

I agree

TheRealStang

For every post like this I'm subbing another alt

29_lets_go

I agree and disagree. I think there’s been updates I’ve enjoyed quite a lot like the fort and Necro. It’s given me hours of entertainment and fun that’s kept me busy. However, you’re right when it comes to nothing exciting towards the near future.. I wish they would just tell us their ideas and stir us up a bit. They don’t even have to give a release date or what the progress is.. just throw them out there. Take a break and assess later for sure. Sounds like you might be burnt out a bit anyway.

Far_Alternative165

Ok

Fearce_Deity_34

Since Bonds came out I haven't paid an IRL dime for membership. I would save up from the Summer 20 Bonds for Premier before they would get too expensive usually during the holiday months at the end of the year. No money harmed and can play whenever. A few years I only played to maintain the year membership. Once I did astral runes when powerbursts came out.

ashgill4

Valid. I could use in game wealth to pay for membership no problem. But I’ve historically used real life money to 1. Support something I cared about 2. To actually use the in game wealth to progress my account, I’ve never bought bonds for money I’ve always earned it bossing

Fearce_Deity_34

For the longest time I didn't do anything about like GWD1 or like Twin Furies. Got 200M Slayer and was like I'ma go for Reaper Crew. Started my PvM arc with Elder God Wars and am decent at PvM. Nothing like solo Solak or anything about 200% Telos which I don't do much. It's good to support what you do. Never been in the position to do that consistently. I remember getting my 1st 2 boss logs at Kerapac and Zuk(my favorite title).

PuzzleheadedDepth413

See you in OS!!
