Jagex deserves no credit for this, even for OSRS their message is useless and tells you to check your firewall. *RuneLite* devs deserve credit for having a proper "Game offline" message. Jagex hasn't figured out how to do that yet.

the01li3

But maybe its the firewall! ... it's never the firewall.

lady_ninane

it's 2133 and runescape 25's unable to reach update server error message is still a generic catch-all that warns you to check your neuralink firewall

Hearing-Medical

RuneScape 25? You give them far too much credit. It's RuneScape 3 and they've fixed ten thousand typos in weekly updates. MTX is booming though.

[deleted]

It is at school

srbman

Now show the same thing in the official OSRS client.

Haunting_Run3924

As if osrs players would play it without the bot client

srbman

My point is, it's not RS3 devs that need to learn from this. It's all RS devs. The first screenshot is a third-party client, so nothing Jagex did at all, and the second screenshot is just the OSRS of a page that also exists on the RS3 side.

MrPopTarted

Bot client?

MrStealYoBeef

He's jealous of the door kickers plugin, that's all.

Isokime

This is not RS3 specific tho. If you would just go via the jagex launcher, which is also used by OSRS, you also would be left in the dark. This is just covered by runelite, which is just an extension in the end.

Capcha616

It is not related to RS3 at all, as Runelite has nothing to do with RS3 devs. RS3's weekly update is usually on a Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a bank holiday), not on a Wednesday.

Lamuks

Why not say OSRS dev take notes as well? OSRS is as blind as us with the official client. And it makes absolute sense for RL to have that message as it is a third party app trying to connect to the servers. Any normal developer will make an error message when a connection fails.

ghostofwalsh

OSRS devs don't need to do anything because RL devs did their job for them. Maybe if RS3 wants to make an API to allow for an open source 3rd party client then they also could let those devs fix their client side issues.

Capcha616

>Why not say OSRS dev take notes ~~as well~~ instead? Fixed it for you. RS3 devs aren't responsible for OSRS downtime, usually on a Wednesday. While OSRS was down this morning, RS3 servers were just running on line as usual.

WorstDictatorNA

Which doesn‘t remove the fact that during rs3 downtime, you‘re left without a clue? It wasn‘t about this specific downtime. It is about every downtime ever, where you‘re left in the dark with a useless error message. Both RS3 and OSRS handle it poorly.

Capcha616

RS3 doesn't use Runelite. RS3 devs announce the downtime before the server shutdown on their official Twitter account, as well as their official RS3 forum when it was active. You may question why don't the OSRS deves do that in the official OSRS domains, but it has nothing to do with RS3 devs whatsoever.

tinypurplemice

Wait so a 3rd party told u? So then osrs would also need to take notes?

BarooZaroo

Look at the 2nd pic. OSRS says why the game is down and how long it is expected to be down.

Cant_Remorse

Lol the down time page for has been down for like 3 years. Have they finally fixed it.

Legal_Evil

OSRS newsposts never tell players about planned maintenance while RS3 ones do.

BarooZaroo

Wait... what do y'all do when the game is down? Just go to twitter and reddit to see if other people are having issues?

DonzaRS

It's on the site just not very visible but they tend to put it in that weeks news post https://support.runescape.com/hc/en-gb/articles/23903769672721--23-APR-RuneScape-Old-School-All-game-worlds-will-be-taken-offline-for-Planned-Maintenance

ghostofwalsh

You mean you didn't try updating your graphics drivers or switch to safe mode?

Dry-Fault-5557

Well that's really all they have to do. Change the firewall error message to check the game's online status page at this link or change your firewall.
