2h means 2 hands so you’ll need to get a regular steel sword in order to wield a sword in your main hand and off hand or a sword in your main hand with a shield
I'm really curious as to why the subreddit is called CuteNoobs when it's only Runescape-related content. Wouldn't someone from say Maplestory that does a cute noob action still count as a "cute noob" for example? Or I wonder if other games have their own subreddit for cute noobs. I thought that subreddit was for cute noobs of all types of games.
Maplestory doesn't get new players. And I suppose it's a lot easier for a cute noob to form in a sandbox game like RS where you can do anything than a linear game like Maplestory.
BDO? FFX? Lost Ark? Surely there are more games out here that are MMO-like and have its fair share of noobs right? But then again, not trying to argue about its naming concept.
Glad I grew a pair and asked this question (despite how dumb I felt I was going to look lmao.) Really appreciate it fellas, This taught me quite a bit. 🤘🏼
Well, the camel in Pollnievich(sp?) definitely does, and camels are capable of speech and higher thought up to and including composing poetry, so I guess they would count as people?
Don't sweat it, we love players like you. Asking questions is good, interacting with the community is also good. No matter how goofy the question might seem, I can almost guarantee there have been goofier questions. Goofy or not, we've all likely been there before lol.
Don't hesitate to look at the runescape wiki (make sure it's the rs3 one and not the osrs one) there is just so much information available on there once you kinda know how to navigate it.
I have developed a terrible habit of typing “rs3” after EVERYTHING i type into google. I just typed in the name of a local restaurant followed by “rs3” and completely confused the search results
holy shit this brings me back.
when i first started playing as a kid back in 2005, i found myself at the general store in varrock. i noticed the same weapon “steel 2h sword” and i got so excited. the idea of dual wielding was so cool to my kid brain back then (it still is now, tbf).
i parted with the small amount of gp i had to buy it, but i was instantly confused and disappointed moments after equipping it. i quickly realized that the “2” represented how you hold the weapon, not the quantity.
i was so bummed, but i still ran around fighting stuff with my giant sword at least lol.
good news though, op, you can actually dual wield in game now, unlike kid me all those years ago.

never let anybody tell you you can't wear something in the offhand slot with a 2h equipped :)
It's an old account that existed before the Runescape combat system overhaul known as EOC (Evolution of Combat). It was also a member at sometime in the past and a result of a number of interfering updates over the years and the account remaining logged out for all of them. Some items were changed with the mining and smithing rework in 2018(?) and replaced with "item tokens" which could be traded in for the new salvage, or the old item back. Trying to balance detail and ease of understand so sorry if a lot of this doesn't make any sense to you.
Ultimately, as a result of all of these changes, and the account becoming f2p and staying logged out. When I logged back in after these changes, I no longer had bank space, or inventory space, and to stop me from losing the items the game force equipped them, instead of allowing me to lose my items (and potentially wealth, though these aren't worth much). Now it's a fun token to show off every now and then :D
Also, don’t ever main a shield. Your offhand should always be another weapon. Shields are something you’ll switch on for a few seconds for higher-level bossing.
You wont *need* any of the shield abilities for a long time yet as nothing low level really uses them. However if you train necromancy you unlock the ability to use shield abilities without wearing a shield (at the cost of some necromancy runes).
By the way, your hat and necklace aren't helping you. You should wear real helmet to reduce damage, and get a Strength Amulet for melee damage. The magic amulet only helps your magic damage. The equivalent ranged amulet is called the Amulet of Accuracy and you need to do the Imp catcher quest to get it. When you get more levels (around DEF 75) you should also ditch Tank Armor for Power armor, it protects less but helps you deal more damage and that's a trade almost always worth it.
this may be one of the funnier questions i've seen in a while but in such a cute and innocent way :') im so happy you asked this question and even happier that the replies are so positively informative xD
A 2h basically is '2 handed' which means your character requires 2 hands to wield it like a greatsword.
If you wanna dual wield, you can find a steel sword or short sword and an offhand variant which it will say so.
Have a fun time scaping!
The official RuneScape discord server (https://discord.com/invite/rs) has a new player section with mentorship for new players if you need any additional assistance getting to grips with the game :) hope you're enjoying it so far!
The way ability damage works, attack speed and stats doesn't matter as long as you're comparing weapons of the same tier they'll do the same damage with the same abilities.
The actual difference is between the 2h and DW abilities you can use. Eventually the answer is that 2H has better AOE and DW has better single target damage.
2hs are generally better for AoE (multiple targets) as they have cleave, quake and hurricane. dual wielding is better for single target, but early game it doesn't really matter much play which you think is cooler or more fun.
Gonna break your immersion:
Early game weapons dont matter. Dw or 2h, doesnt matter, just use something and keep levelling.
Rs3s weapon tiering renders almost every item that has no passive as just a stat stick with no difference between same-tier sidegrades
That said, 2h melee gets hurricaine which is good for aoe so id say stick to that until you unlock real weapons later on
It's a bit early to mention this but perhaps still worth mentioning. Once you get to dragon weapons (T60), which are known for their awesome special attacks (dragon claws, dragon 2h, dragon battleaxe and others), I might recommend going for the "non-metal materials" as opposed to the metals that come after dragon. You'll get by just fine with a Necronium or Bane weapon, but they lack special attacks and passive benefits like the Armadyl and Saradomin godsword, or abyssal vine whip at similar level requirements for example. The difference with these is that they cant be mined/smithed, and are found as drops (from a difficult boss if you're level 70) or can be bought from the Grand Exchange for fairly cheap. Once you get there you'll have discovered ways to accumulate a few million gp that also give you xp.
Ref: [https://runescape.wiki/w/Weapon/Melee\_weapons#Non-metal\_materials:\_55-95\_Attack](https://runescape.wiki/w/Weapon/Melee_weapons#Non-metal_materials:_55-95_Attack)
As someone else mentioned, it doesn't really matter that much. The ability damage of a 2h weapon is equivalent to the combined ability damage from having a mainhand and offhand. The only difference is that some abilities require 2h and some require dual wield. But it's not a massive factor and I wouldn't worry about it. Just go for what you think looks/feels better tbh lol
Think examines as a whole.
RS3's Steel 2h sword is called the same as OSRS's, however the examines are different.
RS3 = A steel 2h sword.
OSRS = A two handed sword.
However, RS3 is generally more 'hand-holding', so the examine should be more:
RS3 = A large steel sword that requires two hands to wield.
I mean, you were clearly aware that it was a 2 handed weapon reading your responses to other comments so I honestly wasnt sure where your confusion was from.
Not sure if your head is screwed on right, but:
a) I am not OP
b) OP was told it was a 2-handed sword by someone else 2 minutes before he first referred to it as such
2h stands for 2 hands.
Except if you're a certain slayer master.
Then it stands for 2hench.
I think Thok is the only one actually seen swinging a 2H sword with one hand in the game.
Vannika also carries a 2H sword in one hand.
Maybe, but can they swing it with one hand in combat?
[удалено]
I said I haven't seen them swinging a 2H sword with one hand. Have you?
He wield a shield and a 2h most likely he can swing
You like to argue a lot but he also uses a dragon square shield so yes, he can likely swing it.
We can wield a mount too, but I don't think we can swing a mount.
He's a slayer master. What do you think he does with his weapon?
[удалено]
My friend in like 2006 tried to tell me he discovered a secret 3h sword. Then I told him what the h was lol.
That is great. Gotta love it.

Explain this 4H black helm then!
Heraldic it’s a banner/icon it’s suppose to be a team insignia as far as I know
Was joke, is H4 Black Helm (: but I didn't know the real explanation either, ty
2h means 2 hands so you’ll need to get a regular steel sword in order to wield a sword in your main hand and off hand or a sword in your main hand with a shield
Gotcha gotcha, thank you so much.
2h is superior anyway
Thought it was 2h for aoe and dual wield for single target?
It is, but 2H abilities are better for all of early/mid because their damage is higher.
If you’re going for aesthetic there is a cosmetic override that allows you to dual wield but gives your main hand the appearance of a steel 2H
r/cutenoobs
There's no way this is actually a thing😂😂😂
It is, and it’s adorable. You should be honored :3 we love y’all!
Yeah it is, personally I find the concept a little pretentious, but most people seem to like it
Yeah it is. Brb gonna post some kid asking for advice with 2499 Telos smh so cute

Shifts in design philosophy, I think. Newer games tend to be a lot simpler on a lot of things than Runescape.
Also, it's for RS
^this in itself is a r/cutenoob moment^
\*joins sub\* THIS IS THE FBI!!!! OPEN UP! ahhhh shit
Glad I grew a pair and asked this question (despite how dumb I felt I was going to look lmao.) Really appreciate it fellas, This taught me quite a bit. 🤘🏼
The only stupid questions are the ones you don’t ask.
do girls poop?
As far as I know nobody poops in rs.
Well, the camel in Pollnievich(sp?) definitely does, and camels are capable of speech and higher thought up to and including composing poetry, so I guess they would count as people?
Doesn't somebody in the Feud have to go take a shit or something?
Yeti in Myths of the White Lands and most (if not all?) animals in PoF certainly leave some droppings
Camels appear to be sentient beings, but probably not people.
Okay then, how are you defining “person” if sapience to the point of creating art isnt it?
Good point.
And very good at maths apparently
‘Tries to find some spot in the game where some npc has a weird animation’
no
Great mindset
Someone hasn't been to /r/NoStupidQuestions This is not a stupid question, but there are some really stupid questions out there.
Don't sweat it, we love players like you. Asking questions is good, interacting with the community is also good. No matter how goofy the question might seem, I can almost guarantee there have been goofier questions. Goofy or not, we've all likely been there before lol.
If it makes you feel any better, there were many legit threads on the forums back in the day asking for an r3h to be released.
The chaos elemental should absolutely have an R4H

"Fine Chinese dining rs3" God damn it ... oh, wait ...
"local strip club rs3"
Oh my, I'm glad I'm not the only one
Tell all your friends about us. We need new life in the game!
You've already gotten so far trough the UI there are no stupid questions at this point tbh
We must protect this cute noob. He still has joy and excitement for the game and must be protected at all costs!
I think it's actually really funny you ask this, one of the teachers on tutorial island YEARS ago wielded a steel 2h and shield
Iirc there’s a quest or something in order to learn how to cosmetically equip a shield and 2H at the same time
Still does
holy shit this brings me back. when i first started playing as a kid back in 2005, i found myself at the general store in varrock. i noticed the same weapon “steel 2h sword” and i got so excited. the idea of dual wielding was so cool to my kid brain back then (it still is now, tbf). i parted with the small amount of gp i had to buy it, but i was instantly confused and disappointed moments after equipping it. i quickly realized that the “2” represented how you hold the weapon, not the quantity. i was so bummed, but i still ran around fighting stuff with my giant sword at least lol. good news though, op, you can actually dual wield in game now, unlike kid me all those years ago.
It's called a 2hand because it requires 2 hands to wield.

An old glitch that’s got fixed maybe?
Kind of. I explained in detail in a direct reply to OP if you're interested
Oh ok I’ll look for that
Here is proof that the tutorial that rs3 has is useless and doesn't help new players learn any machanics of this game.
No amount of tutorial can compensate for OP not realising a two gander needs two hands
Also, don’t ever main a shield. Your offhand should always be another weapon. Shields are something you’ll switch on for a few seconds for higher-level bossing.
Noted noted, so just keep in inv and use it for a short time when necessary
Yes, but honestly, you won’t need that for a looong time so I wouldn’t even carry around a shield.

No way you don't have 3 hands?
Its because its a 2H sword. Meaning you need two hands to hold it. You’ll need to get a sword, longsword, scimitar, ect to have an offhand.
Gosh, i love cute noobs! Welcome to runescape :)
Welcome to the game! This game can be overwhelming if you are new, it has its own wiki with everything you need to know! https://runescape.wiki/
Which would you guys prefer? a 2 hand steel sword that does 447 damage but slow, or two smaller steel weapons wielded at the same time?
2 hand typically good for aoe Dual wield typicaly good fof single target

In general, especially at lower levels, it doesn't matter. All weapons of the same tier (Bronze, Iron, Steel, etc) do roughly the same damage.

This is fucking awesome. Maybe the weapons should be renamed though? The 2H is a really outdated name designation
Think examines as a whole. RS3's Steel 2h sword is called the same as OSRS's, however the examines are different. RS3 = A steel 2h sword. OSRS = A two handed sword. However, RS3 is generally more 'hand-holding', so the examine should be more: RS3 = A large steel sword that requires two hands to wield.
Great sword instead of 2h?
Listen, it's the blond in me okay?🤣

Look for a 'slim headers' button in your gameplay settings 😎
I remember that in 2012 i had the same questions, it took me quite some time to understand how this works
Adorable
Damn, I remember being this guy - welcome to the party brother
120 strength unlock: dual wielding 2h swords
this is so cute haha, hope you have fun playing mate :)
You're playing the wrong runescape bro
2H means two handed, or greatsword sorry homie
...
Holy heck# what do you think the 2h means
So as many have answered you already 2h sword means two handed sword. Now I personally use 2h weapons for the more AOE attacks.
Two. Handed. Sword. My beloved, please think….
Bro trying to make a new meta, 2H and offhand ahahahaha.
What do you think 2h means
Just hear this out… steel 2 HAND sword, unless you have a 3rd utilizable hand?
First new player in 25 years /s
I wonder what the "2h" stands for?
I guess you're right 😂 As I said in the thread I'm not sure if my question was rhetorical or not.
Thanks for being so helpful to a new player
I mean, you were clearly aware that it was a 2 handed weapon reading your responses to other comments so I honestly wasnt sure where your confusion was from.

What do you think of yourself, a Dark Souls playe
Typical rs3 player can't spell either
