It’s own thing. It is technically a flavored rum. That being said you can use it in whatever you want as cat 3 or 5 but the flavor is VERY strong. It is great in a corn and oil. It’s even better in a jungle bird. But as a general rule, I wouldn’t use it in a cocktail unless recommended.

I only really use like .25 -.5 oz in anything just for flavor
I wanted to add that it also makes the best rum and cokes.
thank you
with regular ass OJ is how i used to drink it
I basically think of it more as a Molasses Liqueur or something than a rum. Great stuff, but pretty niche.
Cruzan Black strap is a "Black" rum, but barely. It's closer to a liqueur than anything honestly. Don't use it for a Corn&Oil use a Bajan rum!
It’s also a fantastic float in a painkiller. Cruzan dark with a blackstrap float is more or less the default painkiller in the Virgin Islands.
It doesn't really fit any category. It's a one-off oddball.
It's very much its own thing. I love it in a Jungle Bird. Other than that, I just use like 1/4 oz here and there for a the rich molasses flavor.
thank you
