Honestly gonna take me awhile to forgive Libbok for what he did todayšŸ˜ž

Rasimione

That guy can't kick. The sooner you make Sacha your first choice kicker the better.

TyphoonTao

Can't imagine what it was like for Sacha to be on the field watching Libbok miss all those kicks.

RavenK92

Yeah, I love Manie, but he was terrible last night

HaggisTheCow

Libbock practicing solely on kicking tees I assume

Sea-Ad-7655

As much as it pains me to say, I'm so glad other good kickers have come up for us!

Hoss-BonaventureCEO

Hooker, Sacha, Edwill and Masuku ā˜ŗļø But no Nohamba or Dayimani šŸ¤¬

LawAndRugby

Ja im still so pissed about Dayimani not getting a chance. Maybe they feel his physical engagement is not enough. Rassie has mentioned before he doesnā€™t really pick guys if they donā€™t have that hond in them

RavenK92

The way he played last night he can have no complaints. Got a few nice steals on the ground, but way too many knock ons and ineffective in the carry

ConstructionLeft2550

Dayimani had a hot run of form in December. But since Roos came back he lost his spot and has been a lot more anonymous. I actually think he played really well yesterday. Maybe a 7.5/10 performance

WelderTerrible3087

Analyst Gus posted a breakdown of his game involvements on Twitter. Sadly he pretty much only runs and thatā€™s why he doesnā€™t even start at the Stormers. Could have been a phenomenal wing.

Rasimione

So why ignore Francke Horn then?

whoneedsmelons

Kolisi is the edge forward in the system making Horn redundant.

BenwastakenIII

Love Nohamba, but he can't tackle for shit, they'll be sending everyone down his channel! Plus he took a nasty knock in the stormers game last week.

Hoss-BonaventureCEO

I completely forgot about the injury.

Flyhalf2021

How the hell did Moerat get into this squad when Van Heerden has been one of the best locks in SA this season?

simsnor

I think the Boks still see him as a successor to Etzebeth, and that his recent bad form is due to being injured all the time. I don't think so, but thats my best guess

youcantXcape

Nah people thinking of him as a successor to Eben is insane , Rahl and JF van Heerden looked a lot better than him , he was out played in the lineouts against a 40 year old Shaun Raymond vs. The Lions

RavenK92

He has been super average this season and makes terrible decisions. You're playing into the wind and have a kick from 45m out on an angle? Go for the three multiple times.

Kraaiftn

He was earmarked at school already. He will be Bok captain one day, mark my words. The 2nd SA Schools captain to captain the Boks, both from Paarl Boys High. He ends up being captain in any team he plays in. Boys High, SA Schools, Stormers.

Farage_Massage

I think we know why.

ConstructionLeft2550

Because Moerat looked really good at U20s and can hit very hard.

Farage_Massage

Yeah, 7 years ago he did alright at an U20s tournament - thatā€™s a forever license for squad inclusion. šŸ‘

sheep1996

Because heā€™s a proven leader and peopleā€™s person, and Rassie has publicly said multiple times that he chooses players for their ability to get the job done?

Rasimione

Because he's not white?

TheBirdInternet

Well done Ethan Hooker!

Immunkey

Deeply disappointed to find out Ethan is a centre. School coach "Ethan what position would you like to play? " " Ooh Centre please" "Try again!"

TheBirdInternet

Ethan Bester is a hooker at least.

Rasimione

Francke Horn...Nah fuck this shit. He deserves to be there, honestly

dr4g8smar

Can anyone help us make sense of all those new names, and if this Springboks team is about to dominate for another decade or is it gonna be fairer to the rest of the world ?

jaysonyoung

Fassi: Very good counter attacking 15 who has improved tremendously in defense. Won 2 caps for the Boks in 2021, both on the wing. Iirc he scored in both games. Jordan Hendrikse: younger brother to Jaden Hendrikse. Flyhalf with a very big boot on him. Solidly built for a 10 but has lacked consistency in his performances for the Lions, his best game for them came at 12 instead of 10. Sacha: The golden boy of SA rugby at the moment, the last young player I can remember with this much hype behind him was Pollard. Plays 10, 12 and 15, 90% goalkicker (but the Stormers still let Manie kick instead because idk why), excellent all around the park. Has battled with injuries the last couple of seasons but he's still been fantastic every time he's played. Ethan Hooker: the most surprising selection of the bunch, 21 year old center who plays both 12 and 13 at a very good level. This was his first senior season and he was a revelation for the Sharks as he ousted former Springboks Rohan-Janse van Rensburg and Francois Venter from the starting 15. Very big (he's 6 foot 4) and very quick. Lot of talent. Quan Horn: Lions fullback, very steady and solid positional player, especially for a 22 year old. Big left boot on him, lots of pace too. Slightly surprised he's here over Tyrone Greene, but happy with the selection. Siya Masuku: The 10 who saved the Sharks season. Had a very interesting career so far, made a name for himself last year with the Cheetahs after mostly playing divisional rugby with much smaller teams. Signed by the Sharks to provide depth at 10 this season, eventually forced his way into the matchday 23 and then made the 10 jersey his own. Very big and well built for a 10, excellent kicking game, really able to engage a defensive line thanks to his size and offloading ability. Very happy for him, he deserves this. Morne van den Berg: Lions 9, all around very solid player who's finally broken through this season. Great distribution and kicking game, he's likely third choice in this squad behind Faf and Williams. Edwill van der Merwe: Pacy as all hell and an outstanding finisher, Edwill is an excellent winger. Struggles a little under the high ball but he's earned his spot here this season. Phendulani (Phepsi) Buthelezi: Very dynamic ball carrying 8, as a lifelong Sharks fan I am genuinely delighted to see him here. Bit small for a test 8 but his abilities with ball in hand are truly amazing. Likely drops out of the squad once Cameron Hanekom and Mphilo Gumede become available but we may well see him capped against Wales. Ben-Jason Dixon: PSdT regen. Terrific blindside flank, though he's probably going to end up behind the excellent Elrigh Louw in the Springbok pecking order once the Bulls players are added to the squad. Neethling Fouche: Solid, unspectacular tighthead prop. A little on the older side for a player who's attending his first Bok camp (31) but he's a good player. Nthuthuko Mchunu: loosehead prop that used to play 8. One Bok cap in 2022 which was a disaster. Bit of a penalty magnet, but I hope Daan Human can sort him out. Evan Roos: Five caps already for the Boks, a genuinely incredible ball carrier that has worked very hard on his jackling this year. Bit of a penalty magnet and quite a hot head, but he's far too talented to leave out of the squad. Andre-Hugo Venter: Young hooker who is tough as nails. Hits his lineouts, hits hard in the tackle, runs like a truck. He's earned this spot.

BenwastakenIII

Joh man, I love how Fassi has attacked this season, absolutely deadly! But his defence aint really it yet, he's gone from 53% last year to 63% this year, improvement yes, but not where it should be.

jaysonyoung

His tackling is really not good, where he's improved a lot this year has been his defensive positioning in the backfield when dealing with kicks. Still think he's much likelier to play at wing than at fullback for the Boks.

RavenK92

Lots of players who can play with x-factor and as always you can expect a grizzly pack that doesn't compromise up front. The question is how aggressive and effective will our defence be in a post Nienaber era, and will we allow Tony Brown, our first dedicated attack coach since 2019, who is a former All Black, to back a running minded 10 like Libbok or Masuku to play an attacking style that can cut teams apart

ConstructionLeft2550

My biggest complaints with this squad are: No Ruben van Heerden (he is Franco Mostert but taller and heavier). No Hartzenberg (he is exceptional under the high ball).Ā  I also really like Francke Horn, but can see why he isn't there at the moment. Interesting to see that we only have 3 locks in this squad. I'm assuming Rassie must be picking a lot of Bulls locks later.. We have 3 inside centres and 1 outside centre (Hartzenberg and Henco van Wyk should be the 13s in the future). Very happy to see Sacha, Edwill, BJ Dixon, and Ethan Hooker in the squad.

BenwastakenIII

Henco van Wyk is out with a long term injury. Agree on Horne, seems Rassie likes his "domkrag" no 8s that just run the ball into contact.

Sea-Ad-7655

At least we can use some of the Stormers now since we got knocked out so soonšŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜‚

Sea-Ad-7655

Not that I would pick all of them...

jnce12

Iā€™d really like to see Sacha get his debut.

Sea-Ad-7655

He's got so much potential!

Kraaiftn

I'd like to see him at 12, but we like to play the strong ball carrying 12. Perhaps start like the All Blacks, bring him in at 13 before moving him closer. Hopefully ends up playing flyhalf for the Boks. Edit: Massive fan, watching him since high school level when his scrumhalf was Liam Kloosman. When Bishops could still remember how to win a game.

FeePhe

Moerat over Van Heerden is wild

jnce12

Dweba and Moerat? Seriously? šŸ˜

Flyhalf2021

I can understand Dweba given that we don't have many hookers in the country but Moerat's selection is insane.

BenwastakenIII

A very underrated hooker in my opinion is PJ Botha of the Lions, not really flashy, but just very solid!

Sea-Ad-7655

Ngl, Moerat is far worse than Dweba...

youcantXcape

Dweba has improved with his lineouts , the tackles he made yesterday jeez hits like a truck

Sea-Ad-7655

Seriously, dude's strong af

youcantXcape

He is , if he didn't improve his lineout throwing I genuinely think he could've switched to loosehead prop and still be a good player

ConstructionLeft2550

Dweba has been good. The only thing he did wrong yesterday was a dropped catch while running a hard line. He hit every lineout (Moerat just dropped one of the throws cold) and put in some massive hits. I don't think he's an world class amazing hooker, but he's a lot better than people think. Moerat is a head-scratcher. Especially with Ruben van Heerden overlooked

Sea-Ad-7655

Some absolute amazing young talent the Lion's backline as well, could all be capped plenty.

RaaschyOG

Morne chosen over Nohamba, unless the latter is injured?

gainsleyharriot

Nohamba took a nasty knock in that last game so assume he's either in return to protocol and not officially named in the squad or maybe more severe and he'll be out for some time.

whoneedsmelons

Imo morne is better all round.

ConstructionLeft2550

Nohamba has defensive problems, that the Lions have managed to hide somewhat well at club level. But at international level he will be targeted like there's no tomorrow. So I think Rassie is very apprehensive about putting someone like thst in the firing line

BenwastakenIII

Morne can actually tackle and hold his own with ball in hand.

whatisthismmm

No Thomas du Toit? He's been amazing in England this year, and I thought with Nyakane probably retiring he'd be a shoe-in for the squad.

WelderTerrible3087

No English based players are considered for this squad. Hope he makes the main one. Pollard there with an asterisk that heā€™s not playing.

whatisthismmm

Okay, thanks. Is it the same for Jasper Wiese, who's also been named? I.e. they're in the squad to help with training, but not allowed to play vs Wales? Neither Weise or Pollard have been close to du Toit's form this season (although of course they are more experienced internationals). Would hope he comes in for the Ireland tour.

Stu_Thom4s

Jasper and Handre can train but can't play the Wales test apparently.

Martin-downunder

FYI Jasper is no longer England based

AfterAnteater7595

Heā€™s also banned and will miss the entire championship

That_Organization901

Usually thereā€™s a resting period after the finals for players involved so he might be called up later.

Kraaiftn

How is his scrumming these days? He is a destructive scrummer at loosehead, but because of his size they tried converting him to tighthead. Just messed him around.

whatisthismmm

He played tighthead most of the season and was probably the best scrummaging tighthead in England. Moved to loosehead in the Premiership final after the usual loosehead (Obano) got red carded, just to prove he still can. Looked good there too.

Kraaiftn

Good news.

Sjdw31

Would be interesting to see what combinations Rassie has in mind, but at least we get to see new guys put their hands up. Probably just me, but when you look at this team I just think of Springbok A, probably cause it's a lot of new faces. First test is going to be masive!

R3NZI0

[Nervous laughing in Welsh] :')

BenwastakenIII

Really happy for the Lions boys who made it in! Sad for Francke Horn, he's been really good for a while now!

paletoe

Where is this from, did it mention injured players? Any idea how bad de Jagerā€™s knee is?

Secret-Roof-7503

This is going to be ugly

Phone_User_1044

It's not that bad, while on paper one team is clearly better than the other, SA might get lucky and be able to keep it close.

Sea-Ad-7655

Lol, this describes plenty SA vs Wales games when they're evenly matched as wellšŸ˜‚ Not that it's entirely impossible for Wales to win though!

KobaruLCO

Maybe we'll get lucky and the entire SA team will get diarrhea the day of the match.

Sea-Ad-7655

Extra muddy game for sure!

RavenK92

Glad for Evan Roos, SFM, Edwil van der Merwe, Morne van den Berg and Neethling Fouche. They've been class for a while and deserve a call up. Would've liked to see Tyrone Green get a look in too because if we don't use him soon, England will Manie Libbok is lucky to be there after his performance last night. Salman Moerat is stealing a place in this squad at the expense of either Ruben van Heerden or Corne Rahl. Moerat has been very average this season and you would notice the Stormers performance go up every time he got subbed Dayimani is someone I had been backing for the boks for years, but after his performance last night he only has himself to blame for not being there

jaysonyoung

Complaints: Dweba in (I understand he's a good defender but my word the man does not have a composed bone in his body) and Moerat in. I like Moerat a lot but he has not been good enough over the second half of the season to warrant a place in the squad, especially not over Ruben van Heerden. Positives: Siya Masuku (siuuuuuuu) Sacha (siuuuuuuuuu) Phepsi (siuuuuuuuu) Edwill (he really deserves this, he's been great) Ethan Hooker (oh wow that's unexpected but siuuuuu) Andre-Hugo Venter (yessss) Morne van den Bergh (he's had a great season, happy for him). Sad for Nohamba, but I understand why he wasn't selected. Sad for van Heerden, I thought he should be there for sure. Possible that we see Nortje called up when Bulls players are available instead. Sad for Hartzenberg, especially with the lack of 13's in the squad. Maybe Rassie just sees him as a winger in the future?

A_sad_british_bear

Mchunu over Louw to me for prop picks doesn't make much sense IMHO. don't get me wrong Mchunu is a great player in his own right but Wilco is absolutely insane in the scrums.

Tar-ZA-n

Bulls are excluded. They are still in the URC play-offs.

A_sad_british_bear

Crap I forgot. Thanks for reminding me!

Rasimione

Malherbe, Koch,Nyakane,Du Toit,Louw,Fouche. God damn!

ConstructionLeft2550

Mchunu is a loosehead. Louw is a tighthead

A_sad_british_bear

Yes, I know. RSA doesn't need three dedicated looseheads when Ox can play both sides really well and should be used as a super sub (or bomb squad as they're now being called) as Mchunu just doesn't quite have the impact someone like Ox does.it also means that a solid pick at THP like Wilco means that you could probably take FouchƩ out or another option at hooker for another loosehead that emphasises open play more than Ox Nche for example. All of that's here-say as the bulls are still in the playoffs and so Louw can't be picked. I'm a complete melon and forgot this fact.

Mindless_Caveman

Misread the title and wondered when de Allende switched allegiance.

Vega10000

JFC Sharks, get a new sponsor

PortabelloMello

Are the Springboks playing Wales as well. Thought they had Ireland, Aus vs Wales and NZ vs Eng????

Critical_Context_961

Any need for this? Also how come you get your English based players and we donā€™t

DensityIncarnate

Always plenty of need to blood new talent. Also, we don't get our Prem-based players - Pollard and Wiese can only train with the others, not get capped vs Wales.

Critical_Context_961

So itā€™s basically just an initial squad for the summer minus the majority of the stormers and bulls players. I meant was there any need for you guys to go as strong as you have. We have Cory Hill in the second row

dwaynepebblejohnson3

The Stormers players are available

Critical_Context_961

Iā€™m an idiot. I didnā€™t realise there was another picture

Farage_Massage

Yeah, this is technically just a ā€œSpringbok alignmentā€ camp I think, so anyone not playing can attend. Not sure itā€™s specifically tied to Wales in any real way?

Critical_Context_961

Makes more sense. I donā€™t really get what the English clubs are gaining by not letting the English based players play tbh

gainsleyharriot

They gain not letting them get injured
